Bought this, along with Good Dinosaur, for my son's 3rd birthday, and we all fell in love with it.
Having a 3 year old means a LOT of repetition; when they find something they like, it becomes the center of their entertainment for a VERY LONG TIME...
Luckily, Zootopia makes all those re-watches bearable. There's always something happening, a joke, something in the background that keeps you looking, even if it's the 5th time watching it in the past 3 days.
And that's precisely why Zootopia didn't grate on my nerves as quickly as Good Dinosaur. Zootopia's world is hustling and bustling; happenings in the background are sometimes just as funny as things at the center of action- Good Dinosaur's world is often vastly barren, with no distractions for a keen eye. It makes a world of difference for parents... And above that, it's just a great film.
With smart, funny writing, great voice acting, a world of animals, and some really fun characters, where both Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde come across as two main characters rather than one becoming a sidekick, Zootopia has become possibly my favorite of my son's films, even with classics like Cars, Shrek, Ice Age, and others in the library.

Fun times, necessary to play with all Marvel Hero

With the inability to play much of Disney Infinity unless you use characters from the same release version (can't play a 2.0 hero on a 3.0 playset, for example) this playset rectifies it for the Marvel heroes, at least. Since the Marvel heroes are split between the Infinity 2.0 and 3.0 versions, this is a great way to play with say, Hulkbuster (3.0 hero) and Hulk (2.0).
The included Captain America keeps up the tradition of great sculpted heroes, as well.
Perfect, almost necessary addition to your Disney Infinity collection!

Needed a memory card for my 3 year old's Kindle, so we could boost storage and download some movies to it from our collection for when we take long trips either across the country to visit my family, or to the Czech Republic to visit my wife's family.
This went on sale from $100 to $28 the week after we received his Kindle, so the timing was perfect, and it did precisely what we needed at a great price from a great company... Couldn't be more pleased.

Doom done right!

This is a good time to be a FPS fan. There's been a renaissance of sorts with current-gen where multiplayer used to come first, single player stories and fun second... The script has been flipped with the revivals of both Doom and Wolfenstein: the New Order. (Heck, Wolfenstein has NO multiplayer at all, and is oh, so much better for it!)
While Wolfenstein focused primarily on story-telling, Doom hits the ground with "fun first, and immediately" as its mantra, and, like Wolfenstein, is now one of the two FPS games I simply won't entertain the idea of ever trading in.
Unlike Doom 3, which was met with mixed reviews, but undoubtedly agreed upon that it signified a change in the series, Doom goes back to what made the first two so great and so re-playable... Wave after wave of demons, mass firepower, ammo, health, and power ups galore, and the unapologetic feeling of glee of just plunging headfirst into battle.
Everything about Doom is just a throwback not only to greatness, but to an originator of the entire FPS genre, except where it matters: graphics, sound, and the mild improvements to gameplay that keeps a series moving forward. It doesn't make the same overall changes to Doom that Doom 3 tried to, making it feel like a different game altogether using a license to characters; no, it returns to its roots wholeheartedly, and in my opinion, is a much better game for it. For lovers of the first two games, original levels are hidden in each new level, begging to be found and added to your collection to go back and play for nostalgia's sake later.
Don't hesitate on this- and if you haven't played Wolfenstein, order or pick that up from Best Buy, as well, along with its standalone, Old Blood. The folks at id/ Bethesda have given us two absolutely FUN games to play that pack more freshness than the past decade of Call of Duty has. Support is needed to ensure we keep receiving these types of FPS that place emphasis on a single player experience that, at minimum, matches the fun of multiplayer.
With the announcement that id/ Bethesda is also reviving Quake, we can only hope it marks the full return of the 3 biggest players of FPS that I grew up with. After playing these first two, Quake will be a no-hesitation purchase, for sure.

First major innovation to the series in long time

Far Cry Primal is becoming one of, if not my favorite iterations of the Far Cry series.
I've been playing Far Cry since the beginning- lucky enough when the original came out to have a PC strong enough to play it, and while the standard "upgrades" throughout a series have occurred, (better graphics, larger worlds, overall "more") it's always been about a big sandbox with guns.
Primal swaps out the guns for Stone Age fare, and it's a true breath of fresh air. There's more reason now to scavenge the world, not only for medicinal and "buff" plants, but you'll need wood and other materials to make your bow, club, and spears... As well as to replenish your ever-dwindling arrow supply. Flint and animal fat will allow you to create fire- necessary to light your way in the dark, fend off animals, and create campfires.
The world itself is vibrantly alive, and it's easy to get caught up just watching events unfold. Within my first hour of play, I had witnessed a mammoth go to a riverbank to drink, only to be attacked by a just below the surface crocodile and a three person band of hunters whoop it up at first finding a bear, then see the tide turn as the bear tore them apart. These details are some of the real reason to get excited about this new generation of games.
But, without today's technology (or the future's) being represented in-game, it might lead one to believe that spending countless hours in another Far Cry world might become tedious- with only Stone Age weaponry and travel available. To offset this, there's some great additions to play- a "hunter's eye" allows you to spot wounded prey or find things necessary to survival. You'll be able to tame animals to help you; as fighting companions, mounts, or, in the case of the owl, a bird's eye view to find things easier.
Far Cry Primal is a great addition to the series, and one that has reinvigorated the franchise. Highly recommend!

Fun throwback to the cannibal genre
on March 18, 2016

Eli Roth is polarizing as a director- with fans of his loving him, while detractors can't hide their displeasure of his horror stories relying far too much on gore.
I fall more in-line with his fans. He's mostly a one-trick pony, for sure, but over the top gore doesn't bother me. He may rely on rivers of red stuff in his stories, but I find it to be a nice throwback to the late 70s/ early 80s gore helmed by directors such as Herschel Gordon Lewis, as well as a better option than the other direction horror has become: ineffective PG13 films made specifically to get more ticket sales by allowing younger audience members in seats.
Green Inferno is Roth's love letter to the infamous Italian Cannibal films of his (and my) youth, and for the most part, it's a solid effort. In an unusual step for Roth, ESPECIALLY considering the source material and his previous films, he comes off as holding back. While it doesn't kill the film, it makes me wonder what it might have been.
A full 45 minutes pass before we even come across the cannibals in this film, and once we do, Roth seems to rush the kills after a pretty twisted first casualty. Where Roth's body counts throughout his movies always seem to let the audience "relish" each death, these within the Green Inferno come and go quickly, with the final kill, seemingly being one that was great on paper, just falling short, sadly.
In fact, on more than a few occasions throughout the film, not only are the kills less than what fans are used to, but logic, character consistency, and lingering questions are just left open. For a director known for excess, it's a bit disheartening to end the film with viewers wanting more instead of feeling like they were given more than they could take.
With all these negatives, Green Inferno falls into 3rd place (out of 4 Roth films) in my order of enjoyment. I still believe the original Cabin Fever and Hostel are his best works. However, even falling into that slot, it's STILL better than ALL but a few of the overproduced PG13 "horror" films Hollywood keeps pumping out, trying to convince us it belongs in that genre.
Overall, the kills are not up to what I've come to expect from Roth (with the exception of the first one, which very well may be one of his best) but they're still better than most. The story is fast-paced and brisk (don't worry about the first 45mins being cannibal-free. It sets up the story very well) and has the better than average character interaction that has become a Roth staple. Even the obvious people to die are more than interchangeable camp counselors.
I may sound harsh on my negatives, but this is still a great purchase- one that even after seeing it in a theater, I added to my home library.

Bought this this week on sale for 3D blu ray for $14.99 + a $5 gift certificate- was a perfect time for it to go on sale!
As a Dad who loves horror, and has since I was a kid (all while hating Disney features) I'm always seemingly waiting on my son to get older to have him enjoy some of the movies my parents allowed me to watch.
Now, I'm in no rush to have my 2 1/2 year old watch Hostel with me, but I'm in no rush to watch Toy Story, either. Luckily, I married a woman who loves the kids movies of the world, so she keeps me in check, and my little guy has plenty of movies from her for now, and TONS of movies when he gets older.
Hotel Transylvania was one of those kids movies that finally caught my interest (outside of Despicable Me) because of all the classic monsters in it. My wife wasn't so sure how our little guy would react without previewing it first, so I DVR'd it one day, and on a day she was at work with the two of us looking for some movie time, I popped it on, complete with commercials, and the remote ready should it give him any jolts.
Occasionally, Dracula would get angry and the screen would quickly turn red, and they'd closeup on Drac's face, where he'd head jerk and snarl for a few seconds, but my son actually found it funny, turning around and saying "RAHR!"
Other than that, he fell in love with Hotel Transylvania, with nothing else being even remotely scary/ indicative of the monsters being monsters. In fact, they're scared of humans, and the film is really very funny, even for adults.
After watching it once, my son wanted to watch it again immediately, particularly enjoying scenes with all of the Wolfman's "puppies" and laughing at Frankenstein's legs walking up behind the Mummy for a joke.
By the end of the week, he had watched it 5 times, and we saw the movie go on sale Valentine's Day, so we grabbed it for a Valentines present for him. That night, my wife finally watched it in full, and told me that in her personal collection of kids films (about 50 of them, including Cars films, Toy Story films, etc) it was one of her favorites.
And it's true... My son watched it three times since he got the blu ray, and I've watched it with him 6 of those now 8 times. It really is a fun, great movie that can be enjoyed by kids and their parents... Especially if you're a Dad like me, who has a hard time finding kids movies you can truly enjoy multiple times.
Besides that, this may be the first real funny movie Adam Sandler's been a part of in over a decade!

Solid entry.

There's a lot to like in Battle of 5 Armies, as it's probably the strongest entry in the Hobbit series... That said, it (and the others in The Hobbit series) just don't measure up to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Featuring plenty of battles, a return to a beautifully rendered world, and top-notch special effects, it's only real flaw is a disconnect with the characters that just didn't exist in LotR. Certainly, there's some characters here that you'll enjoy, but where LotR seemed to be flowing with tons of characters you quickly grew attached to, the same cannot be said for The Hobbit.
One also has to be disappointed in the dwarf/ elf "forbidden love" that is so incredibly forced, the movie itself never seems to take it seriously. Even if the extended version somehow made it "better" the whole thing was laughable, at best. The 2 characters involved seem ready to leave their entire races to be together, yet there's never a moment between the two that makes it seem they ever fell in love. It was hard to swallow throughout the other films, and 5 Armies never fixes this. I cringed every time the 2 actors shared scenes, not because they were bad actors or didn't make me believe they had feelings for one another, but I could just never buy into the fact that these were living characters that fell in love and not just actors playing the role because it was written that way.
Now, I wish I could give more info on the differences between the standard edition and this extended edition (Bot5A earned an R-rating in its extended format, a first in either series, but I don't recall any scenes in Bot5A that stood out as any more excessive than any other of the films) but, I learned a long time ago, beginning with King Kong and the Fellowship of the Ring, that Peter Jackson consistently offers better movies in his extended versions- at times, cutting scenes that I felt were excellent (but didn't really add to the story, per se) and added wonderful fan service to the viewers, all in the name of saving time. Taken as a whole, they may be added scenes of fights that don't forward the plot, but they most definitely add action to the, well, action-centric films.
I've given it a 4* rating, only because it deserves a rounding up from what I think is a 3 1/2* film. If you're a fan of Middle-Earth, there's absolutely no reason not to add this to your collection, especially in its complete version. While I may never enjoy the Hobbit movies as much as the Lord of the Ring films, I'm glad these were made, and glad they're a part of my collection. As a fantasy/ sci-fi/ horror buff, these will be some of the first "grown up" films I introduce my kid to as he gets older. They're safe, overall, and very "cool". Comparatively, where the second trilogy of Star Wars fell almost completely flat, the Hobbit avoids that same measure of failure.

T:G is a hard movie to review. The acting is fine, the stunts are great, special effects good, and the story is decent. Of all these things, it's the story that breaks it more than anything. Not due to any inherent flaws, but mostly because of what isn't there.
T:G suffers from its lack of information- too many questions left unanswered. While I'd like to believe it's due to innocent reasons, it may be more due to filmmakers' greed. Much of this could have been alleviated by either allowing for a longer running time or simply having more focus. See, T:G attempts to rewrite the timeline of the movies, and in doing so, crams much of the rewriting of two excellent movies (ignoring T3 & T4) into one film. It gives us much of the highlights from these movies, but the eye for detail found in each film is bypassed in order to get to the next big set piece.
It's a shame they attempted to move so fast to (probably) get to Genisys 2 and their own story picking up after the rewrites to the mythos were done. Focusing on rewriting the original film only in this film, then rewriting T2 in Genisys 2 would have alleviated this rushed feeling, and allowed for their original take on what those changes meant for Genisys 3 might have been much better.
As is, we're left with a decent action film using the Terminator license with acting that's solid enough. I didn't necessarily agree with some of the casting choices (I'm looking at Kyle Reese & John Connor in particular) but, that doesn't mean they were bad in the roles- in fact, they surprised me at how well they portrayed the characters, despite my *PERSONAL* opinion that they didn't look or feel "right" to me.
Overall, T:G can be a fun ride, but those looking for it to fix the issues that began once James Cameron left the franchise (which was what Genisys attempted to do, even working with Cameron for time travel advice) are going to be disappointed. If you're a big Terminator fan, and have the 3rd & 4th installment in your library, there's no reason not to add T:G to the collection. It definitely surpasses most of T3, and all of T4, but if you're hoping to add this based on the premise of the film fixing things, you may want to just rent or watch it on cable. As an enjoyable action film with the Terminator license, it's a fun, stunt-filled ride that you could do much worse with.

Fun 4 vs 1 play!
on January 7, 2016

Verified Purchase:Yes
I'll start with saying this: I owned the original game, and loved it.
As a person who rarely delves into multiplayer, one of the draws of Evolve was the care put into the single player portion- so, if you're like me, the game offers a very full single player portion with bots that don't play quite as well as other people (obviously) but offer enough of a challenge that you won't feel slighted.
That said, I'd implore you to try the multiplayer once you've become familiar and comfortable enough.
The reason for me re-purchasing Evolve in the new Hunters Edition was simple. The game is incredibly fun, and I had set it aside before purchasing any DLC. There were so many great games this year that I had gotten caught up in them for awhile, then saw the announcement of this version. Taking a look, the total cost of all the DLC was more than simply repurchasing the game, ESPECIALLY when my Gamers Club discount was applied, and then to find the game on sale... I saved over $20.
Mind you, doing it this way will cause a slight issue in your PS4 game library- even after uninstalling my previous copy of Evolve, it still leaves an entry for it (plus your new one) in the library, leaving you with two entries.
Considering the Hunter's Edition has the same library art, and there's no way to delete the old one, you're going to be seeing two entries for a long time.
As far as the added content, it's well worth it, with 2 new impressive monsters, double digit new hunters- each with new weapons, along with other goodies.
Evolve is one of those rare games where the DLC doesn't make the original game look small (the original is plenty fun) but it still adds a LOT to the game.
Another plus the devs have added beyond the care in not making the original obsolete is the fact that original owners who have not upgraded can still play with new characters/ monsters when they're in a multiplayer game with others who are upgraded.
Good hunting, people!

is this only for games

I saw multi so i wondered if i can use it for more than games
While I would certainly go through their website for 100% accuracy, I'm going to do my best to respond here from memory when I looked into this.
With ElGato's software, you can livestream directly more than just games, if you're using a camera in conjunction with it: ie: say hosting a small live show with you and your friends to one of the streaming services they support (twitch is for sure).
Now, if you're asking if it can be used to record movies, the answer is less definite- If you're using a PS4, you must turn off a copy-protection service in the PS4's settings in order for it to record. When this copy-protection is turned off, according to ElGato "Some media may not work" (I'm reading this to mean movies).
And, while the ElGato does a fairly great job at compression, if you're looking to record movies, my guess is, even IF it worked, the file size would be far more monstrous than you'd care to have without further compressing it with an editing program- the included one might do the job, but THINK you'd be better off using something like Sony.
Hopefully, someone with more experience with it can be more helpful, as I just recently purchased it and have only begun playing with it- I'm trying to work off memory here when I was reading things on their site. The "multi" you see attached to it, is, I believe referencing the fact that it works on multiple systems: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and believe Wii and even PS2.

Will this work with HDMI camera?

Has anyone tried plugging an HDMI camera to this to record a live camera feed? This looks like what I would need to capture the signal from my HDMI camera to USB 2.0 on my Macbook.
on elgato's website, they have a more in-depth FAQ about streaming via camera, but it would appear by this statement (under a section entitled "Streaming video from cameras"): that theanswer is yes: "Any video that legato game capture HD60 can accept, can also be streamed. If you hook up your camera to EGCHD60, then you can stream live or recorded video to services like Twitch, YouTube or Ustream. You can slo connect to a RTMP sever of your choosing."

Important to note that while most cameras are not HDCP, if yours happens to be, it will NOT work.
