So much fun and nostalgia!

What an amazingly fun ride!
Having a hard time not giving this five stars, so I'll point out the two things stopping me.
First, the biggest, which is just some very minor pacing issues. VERY occasionally, the film feels like they would have benefitted from either linking the action for longer sequences and moving the exposition to one side or the other of the action sequences, OR making those scenes of exposition a bit LONGER between scenes of action.
Secondly, I LOVE this movie personally- it almost feels made specifically for my age group of geeks (46yo). There's some WONDERFUL callbacks to the very things that began geek and pop culture. In the grand scheme, it's certainly not important that not every Easter Egg is immediately identified by those much younger that may only have a passing knowledge (if at all,) of The Greatest American Hero (among others,) as it doesn't play any major role within the film- heck, upon reading breakdowns of all the Eggs within the film, maybe people will hunt these treasures down, but while it certainly benefits myself and others of my age group, some may miss out on a few "aha!" And LOL moments. I DEFINITELY would love to see more movies being soooo inclusive of pop culture history, and it's not a negative to ME, but to others, especially with a more limited personal history with geekdom, have an article that breaks all the Eggs down at hand, visit it after a viewing, and then rewatch Ready Player One!
And that's a good portion of Ready Player One's charm... it's ability to be watched over and over again. Even if you were to know every single Egg and cameo, they come at such a frantic pace, you're bound to miss some! There's so much to take in, both between the Eggs and the action, RP1 is one of the more "replayable" films released in recent years.
This easily could have been a 5 star rating, but I want to play it safe for anyone taking the time reading this.
A real excellent addition to anyone fond of geek and pop culture's library!

"Final" entry is as good as the rest

If you're familiar with the Hatchet series, but were somehow worried that Adam Green stepping away from directing duties would downgrade it... Don't worry. His handpicked successor, as well as his involvement, gave the initial trilogy it's wonderful ending. (In fact, this may be my favorite in the entire series).
The ending film in the initial trilogy (a 4th film, Victor Crowley, arrived recently) pulls out all the stops, involving Crowley, the police, AND a SWAT team called in for backup.
The homages and love for old horror icons continues- Caroline Williams, ("Stretch" Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2,) Sid Haig, (Galaxy of Terror, House of 1000 Corpses,) and Zach Galligan (Gremlins, Waxwork) all play memorable or major roles, and Adam Green himself features in a couple funny scenes.
The entire Hatchet series is a bloody (VERY) bloody mess filled with memorable, over the top kills, meta awareness, amazing roles & cameos by the actors & actresses that helped define the slasher & gory good times of the 80s, and a recurring joke in all three (AND 4th, going outside the original trilogy,) that can only be appreciated by seeing them all. Despite Green's departure (as director) in this 3rd film, which caused so much concern, his involvement shines through, all while giving that OT a very proper, spectacular conclusion that may even outdo the two predecessors. It's a must own at an incredible value.
Now, if you're a horror fan that's unfamiliar with the Hatchet series, there's two things to say: 1- shame on you, and 2- rectify it now.

Continued excellence!

The original reboot of Wolfenstein (New Order) was an exercise in greatness, and New Colossus keeps pushing forward.
With the focus sharply on a single player experience that hasn't changed since New Order (and continued in the "1.5" Wolfenstein: Old Blood,) there remains proof that FPS games can tell excellent tales that do not feel the need to tack on an oversaturated multiplayer component.
And that's what Wolfenstein brings to the table: it's not a multiplayer game trying to satisfy a need for a single player component with a paint by numbers story.
Wolfenstein is an exciting, interesting story told in an equally interesting alternative history (that holds relevance in today's climate,) with unique characters. It's a FULL story, demanding your patience and attention between bouts of exciting gameplay.
Wolfenstein 2 is a throwback to a time where a FPS told a better story than what's become the norm nowadays. If you're in it for multiplayer, there is none and you'll need to move along to the Call of Duties, Battlefields, and SW Battlefronts on the market. If you want a well-told story set in a genre that's long placed single player into "second thought" category, Wolfenstein has got you covered.

A New Spidey is in Town

The hype on this is real... VERY real.
At this point, I'm not certain why anyone would wait to see this with the many positive reviews; but, if you have, allow me to get you running out to grab Spider Man: Homecoming.
If you've seen Civil War, you got a taste of Tom Holland as Peter Parker/ Spider Man. I've yet to meet anyone who walked away from Civil War without absolutely falling in love with the newest iteration of Peter, so I'm going to assume you have taste, as well, and found him refreshing and the embodiment of the Web-Head.
And, good news! The film even revisits the Berlin airport battle, this time in the form of Peter's video diary. From prior to the battle, through it, up until Peter leaving, (plus, a deleted, lengthier version of the video diary in the extras,) you'll get this wonderful re-introduction just to start you off.
Spider Man 2 was, to this point, the best in either the original trilogy or the first reboot, and it might be pressing it to say Homecoming "blows away" Spider-Man 2, but I couldn't blame anyone if they believed that.
Landing Michael Keaton to play the Vulture was a stroke of genius. He plays the role perfectly in this imagining of him. Not necessarily evil, but a man tossed aside and doing anything necessary to ensure he and his family continue their lives. He's joined by The Tinkerer and The Shocker, (unnamed in the film,) and a quick acknowledgement of The Scorpion is thrown out in a possible foreshadowing of Spidey's next movie.
Robert Downey returns as Iron Man, and thankfully, he's not overused. He continues to nail the Tony Stark role, which could have easily overshadowed Tom Holland's Peter in their shared scenes, but Holland is, just as Downey, beyond perfect casting. Truly, I cannot wait to see them onscreen together again when Infinity Wars hits.
If there's one negative, it's that there is no Mary Jane. Peter without Mary seems almost blasphemous. If they had chosen to simply not have her appear, this could have been overlooked, but assigning the MJ moniker to an altogether different character- Michelle- just doesn't seem right. It's paramount to having Superman having a character named Leigh replacing Lois Lane. Truly, this doesn't detract from the movie, but seems so totally out of place that it comes across as its only blemish in an otherwise perfect film.
Spidey is finally in the larger MCU, and it's a trip long-awaited, perfectly executed, and worthy of the double-Homecoming-meaning.

Best since original Avengers!

Big fan of the Marvel films, and Civil War may be among the best: Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and original Iron Man would be the others I'd place in that top tier.
Civil War benefits by having the conflict from within, where both the majority of the "good guys" and "bad guys" are familiar characters not needing to be introduced to us during the course of the film. We've spent time with almost everyone involved here already, and the new introductions don't necessitate long origin stories within the film itself.
Black Panther and Spider-Man make huge splashes here, fitting in alongside some of our favorites without hesitation.
Great film, and one of the best in the Marvel library!

Ended up switching after two fails

This was the recommended protection when I purchased my Galaxy S8+ and disappointed doesn't "scratch the surface".
The first one was making "crackling" noises the next day, of course, in 2 spots where you touch often, the top & bottom of the screen. Thinking there was air trapped, I tried working it out and the whole protector began to slide.
Took it back, and it was replaced. Two days later, same exact thing happened with protector crackling with every touch.
Once again, I returned, and this time, we replaced it with a "self-healing" vinyl protector, which may not offer the same level of protection, but has had zero issues in the week or so since.

Fun! But be aware of what you're purchasing.

Be clear when purchasing Fortnite, you're purchasing entry into the Beta- a highly polished and fun Beta, but this may not be the totality of what will be released.
You also need to be aware that Fortnite will be released as a free game sometime in 2018.
Besides the early entry, you'll be getting a bunch of permanent bonuses that you won't receive if you wait. Of course, by "free," Fortnite will make its bones via microtransactions, which are already in place, but truly, I've felt no need to purchase anything to stay playing.
Gameplay is both fun and a new spin on old things, but the flipside of this is with various styles in play, (3rd person shooting, base building, tower defense, harvesting resources, and vast card collecting system, as well as leveling every aspect within,) it can get complicated, and the tutorial in how these systems play together is lacking, very severely at times. Make sure you have access to the internet and your phone, as you're inevitably going to come across periods in the game that you'll want to have explained better.
It should also be noted that the game is primarily considered a multiplayer affair, working co-op with up to 3 other players. That said, it is (in my first week of play,) easily enjoyed solo, and I have not failed any mission so far while playing solo. (Although some bonus objectives that are timed will be unachievable on your own. You can however, return to missions with others if you choose to solo initially to familiarize yourself).
The game has a lighthearted, fun art style that I love. (Think Team Fortress 2 or even Overwatch). The various types of "Husks" (their version of zombies,) come in all flavors (my personal favorite are the basic ones, that have their faces pulled back over their head at the mouth, making it appear they're wearing hoodies,) with unique looks and abilities, and the game has no blood. If it wasn't for the complicated systems in place, it would be a safe game for younger gamers to play.
All this said, I love this game, for its better or worse in Beta. I would absolutely recommend people to buy in, but be active in helping with feedback to make Fortnite hit its potential. Buying in and giving Epic Games (Gears of War, Unreal Tournament,) shouldn't be the only step in the puddle. A week after beginning play, I was sent a survey, which takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. Please, respond and be legit with your answers, as they ask you to be.
This game has tons of potential, but there are some things still to be ironed out, those willing to buy in must be willing to give the necessary feedback.
Fortnite has also managed to do something I thought near impossible; make harvesting and gathering fun. Just about everything can be broken up (or searched for,) into resources- plants, rocks, mailboxes, furniture, even the houses themselves. (A nod to humor of finding Bacon in bizarre places, like a toilet) and most give exactly what you'd expect.
And that's a huge compliment. Exploring the map, where you can enter every home to scavenge, looking for survivors to add to your base, it's all made fun through this bright cartoon-styled art they've chosen. In almost every instance, I'll bypass timed bonuses just to explore every nook and cranny of the map.
I look forward to see what else is in store for Fortnite, but it says a lot that I'd still play often if this ended up as the finished product.

Fun for all ages
on April 17, 2017

Let's begin with the following: I bought into the Minecraft Beta when it first hit PC, and after various attempts, could never get into it like those who do enjoy it.
Lego Worlds, while being compared to Minecraft, is different enough that it's kept my interest and keeps me looking forward to it.
While I rounded up to a 5, I may have given it a 4... Technically, it's far from perfect, but there's just too much fun to be had to really let the technical (and some blatant lack of instruction,) knock it down.
Now, one of the things I didn't know or wasn't presented in a couple pre-release stories that you SHOULD BE AWARE OF: you do NOT start with a complement of all the Lego pieces. So, if you believe you're gonna fire it up and begin building, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. In fact, it's a very big time sink to start discovering all the various individual bricks and builds before hitting up the free build section of creating your own world. Keep this in mind.
Really, this game can be broken down into several parts.
To start, there's the exploration segment: you'll fly your ship to a World and explore the area. Each "biome" is chock full of goodies. For the younger crowd, this plays like much of the other Lego games. Punch things and collect studs while searching for gold bricks- some, like various other discoveries, will be found in chests, others will be earned by running various errands.
Another aspect of the game is the collecting. Your explorer has a little collection gun that will copy various discoveries (think flora & fauna) to your inventory for use when you begin your own worlds. Copying these only adds them to your inventory, you'll still need to unlock them by purchasing it (one time pay with your collected studs,) before you can actually use them.
You'll also earn other tools- a "copy" tool that you can use to copy large builds- that giant Sphinx that isn't a pre-existing piece can't be used with the collector, but can be copied, so you won't have to try & build one from scratch.
You'll also have tools that remove terrain/ segments of the world for you to find hidden treasure chests, build tools that can reconstruct builds or individual brick by brick that you've collected.
You'll also have little chase segments; to earn many of the individual bricks, as you wander the various worlds, a cutesie green "troublemaker" will occasionally pop out of the ground, carrying either a new brick to earn or a gold brick. Chase him down and tackle him, and he'll cough up the piece.
Once you've tired of a particular biome, enter your spaceship and find a new one to explore.
There are issues. Inventory can quickly become messy, even with the divisions they have. There's just soooo much Lego here, that it quickly becomes a chore to locate particular items you may need in a timely fashion.
I play on PS4, perhaps it's something the Pro or a PC more easily handles, but there are times, especially once you start using vehicles, where you'll get to the end of the rendered biome, but need to wait while it renders the rest (this isn't a huge issue, but needs to be recognized). At one point, the game didn't create the new biomes for me to fly to after unlocking the medium sized biomes, which worked itself out after a restart. (Note that you'll have to tell the game to locate a new biome from the spaceship map, biomes won't just spontaneously show up). There been a few times that while using a tool or weapon, the game suddenly switches it to the collection tool and won't allow me to put it away or switch. (Rectified by the ultra-handy "parachute" option, which is there for if your character gets stuck in terrain- which is funny, because I've had to use it for the tool-failure more times than the one time I've gotten stuck on terrain). Also, the lantern will occasionally lose its glow, which is a huge negative if you're underground. (Rectified by zooming in, then out with the camera).
While the game has quite a list of technical issues, these will hopefully be patched out over time: still, even if they aren't, the game really is one that will have you looking at the clock and wondering where the past 4-5 hours have gone.
There is also multiplayer, both couch co-op and online, with perhaps the best feature being that you can share your created Worlds/biomes in the Lego Galaxy that others can visit (just make sure you set it that changes are NOT saved- ensuring you don't come back to multiple hours of planning and building, only to find it destroyed by visitors).
While the lack of having the full Lego sets to play with out of the box may be frustrating to some; to others, the HUGE timesink involved in hunting down all the thousands of pieces may be too much, the fact remains that they have made the hunt FUN.
The other bonus is just how different the game can be played. I've played with my 4 year old, who's just learning his "inner gamer" and has some experience with other Lego games. The basic running around and stud collecting is in his wheelhouse, and with me playing alongside him, none of the few fights were difficult. This base experience is great for the younger crowd, and one that can be expanded as the young ones get older and more comfortable with the advanced portions. (I'm currently hunting down as much as possible to let him have a large selection to build his own little world with).
And, while that hunt is fun, and can still get a bit repetitive, where else could you get every (non-licensed) Lego piece, unlimited in number, for $30? The price alone, at half the cost of a regular release, is absolutely worth it. Even with the list of current issues, I wouldn't have been disappointed had it been a full priced release. There's just so much to explore, so much to do and see, that the list of glitches is easily overlooked, as none are game-breaking.

Don't believe the nay-sayers

I had followed NMS since it was announced, and yes, there's some things to be disappointed in that were being promoted... But, in my nearly 13 hours so far (and I haven't even left the starting planet due to getting sucked into FUN exploration,) the bulk of what the experience was to be is there.
While some of the negativity is due in part to HelloGames, there's other blame to be passed around; the websites that continued to hype this game, posting multiple articles per day and whipping the masses into a frenzy for its arrival, and gamers themselves... People who had never played or enjoyed similar games who believed that it would magically change their minds.
And, falling somewhat into that latter category, I didn't foolheartedly pre-order or make myself a Day One purchaser. I waited on reviews... Which actually proved to me that the things I cared about being in NMS were in the game.
While it's no savior of the crafting/ exploration genre, it is, in my opinion, a game with a broader appeal than say even Minecraft, which I tried to enjoy, but couldn't.
NMS is all about exploration and crafting in a broad, beautiful (if not utterly interesting-looking,) universe filled with various planets and intriguing creatures. To keep you in check on a planet, "Sentinels" monitor the surroundings- if you attempt to stripmine a planet, they will become aggressive.
One of the most interesting features is the ability to name just about any and everything you come across, from the creatures to mineral deposits to plant life. It adds a certain "making the game mine" element that seems simple, but can become an addictive aside all on its own.
Perhaps most impressively is that after the initial load of the game, at least while traversing a planet (and my understanding is it's true even once you launch into space and land elsewhere,) there's no loading times... And all at a minuscule 5GB on the HDD. Impressive.
If you were scared off of NMS due to the negativity, the recent price drop is worth it if you enjoy the genre. If you don't enjoy the genre, like myself, even the price reduction may not make it worthwhile, but as someone in that group, it's very possible you may enjoy it.
The only real negative I can pin on NMS is the fact it doesn't offer much in the way of teaching... It's best played with a phone or tablet nearby, because you'll inevitably come across questions you'll need some help with.

is this only for games

I saw multi so i wondered if i can use it for more than games
While I would certainly go through their website for 100% accuracy, I'm going to do my best to respond here from memory when I looked into this.
With ElGato's software, you can livestream directly more than just games, if you're using a camera in conjunction with it: ie: say hosting a small live show with you and your friends to one of the streaming services they support (twitch is for sure).
Now, if you're asking if it can be used to record movies, the answer is less definite- If you're using a PS4, you must turn off a copy-protection service in the PS4's settings in order for it to record. When this copy-protection is turned off, according to ElGato "Some media may not work" (I'm reading this to mean movies).
And, while the ElGato does a fairly great job at compression, if you're looking to record movies, my guess is, even IF it worked, the file size would be far more monstrous than you'd care to have without further compressing it with an editing program- the included one might do the job, but THINK you'd be better off using something like Sony.
Hopefully, someone with more experience with it can be more helpful, as I just recently purchased it and have only begun playing with it- I'm trying to work off memory here when I was reading things on their site. The "multi" you see attached to it, is, I believe referencing the fact that it works on multiple systems: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and believe Wii and even PS2.

Will this work with HDMI camera?

Has anyone tried plugging an HDMI camera to this to record a live camera feed? This looks like what I would need to capture the signal from my HDMI camera to USB 2.0 on my Macbook.
on elgato's website, they have a more in-depth FAQ about streaming via camera, but it would appear by this statement (under a section entitled "Streaming video from cameras"): that theanswer is yes: "Any video that legato game capture HD60 can accept, can also be streamed. If you hook up your camera to EGCHD60, then you can stream live or recorded video to services like Twitch, YouTube or Ustream. You can slo connect to a RTMP sever of your choosing."

Important to note that while most cameras are not HDCP, if yours happens to be, it will NOT work.
