Corsair does it!

I am a fan of mice of all different kinds. Wired, wireless. Ones that are specialized for gaming or
otherwise. So what are my impressions of the Corsair Sabre RGB Pro Wireless Champion mouse?
First off, it is rather spiffy in design, it is light, and and it is powerful. I would go so far to say it even rivals
its wired competitors. The 50 million click rated Omron switches and PTFE pads ensure this mouse will
be your prefered gamer for years to come.
With the slipstream tech coupled with 2000Hz (yes, two THOUSAND) polling, as well as 26,000 DPI
optical sensors; this is a beast of a mouse for any gamer. Especially those FPS games that are all too
famous at the moment.
The optical sensor can be customized in 1DPI steps and has a dedicated button to cycle through presets
on the fly while gaming. This is very handy, and a feature that I didn't know I needed until I had it!
Don't just take my word for it. The mouse has also gotten great reviews from esports professionals. You
know if they say a mouse is good, it's good.
If you are a serious gamer this is the mouse for you. Don't fall for the "It's wireless so it can't be good"
fallacy. IT IS GOOD. No, IT IS GREAT!

The ninja strikes again!
on October 20, 2021

Ninja it seems has been making quality kitchen products now for quite a while. So, when I got the chance to review its newest offering - the Dualbrew coffee maker, I was more than excited.
This appliance is a dynamo when it comes to quality, convenience, and versatility.
I have been waiting for a product like this for quite a while. To be honest, prior to this I had two different products in my kitchen to serve the purpose that the ninja now serves. I had the all too famous "K" brewer, along with a standard carafe brewer for weekends ;).
The ninja incorporates both in a very sleek and easy to use appliance. I was pleased with the quality of the build. This is not a "cheap" feeling or looking appliance.
So how does it do both? The magic is in its brewing basket. When wanting a single serve "K" drink, simply pop the attachment into the brewing basket - and your ninja is now a "K" brewer. Want a large traditional carafe? Take out the attachment, put in a filter and scoop in your favorite grounds. What's more, attached to the side of the unit is a double-sided scoop with recommendations of how many scoops to make various sizes - from a large cup to a carafe - taking 7 large scoopfuls.
Just like the good old-fashioned brewers, you can delay/set a time for it to automatically brew. For our household that is at 0530.
The Ninja's features don't end there! You can also select the type of brew. From classic, which is as the name states your usual strength. Also, there is the "Rich" setting which makes a more condensed and flavorful pot of coffee.
Like iced coffee drinks? The Ninja has a setting for that too. Just make sure that your receptacle is full to the top with ice, and you are good to go.
I am a huge fan of multi-function appliances. And the Ninja Dual Brew serves both "K" and traditional carafes in a high quality, space saving form factor.
You can't go wrong! Literally. If you love coffee, I guarantee you'll love the Ninja Dualbrew!

My oh my!

The V2 has come at perfect time. My old Razer keyboard was of the "clickity-clack" mechanical type. At first I loved to hear the sound "feedback", if you will. But I got sick of it. The V2 is like a gun that has had a silencer put on it. The "tactile" feedback is still there, but virtually NOTHING auditory!
The keyboard itself is solid. It doesn't feel like it would break even if put in a backpack. The cord is super long (thank you razer!). This is important to me because my tower is quite a distance away from my "pull out" glass keyboard/mouse tray. Speaking of the cord, it is the un-kinkable braided cloth type that Razer owners have come to know and love. To me it looks much better than some plastic wire.
The keys themselves are normally spaced. As in, this isn't some "squished" compact keyboard. All the keys have a coating that has a granular type feel to them. This also is good for those of us that don't need to look at the keyboard to type. We thus rely on muscle memory of where the keys are. Also the keys have a Razer sound dampening technology that is legit. I couldn't believe how quiet it was a first.
Even if you are gaming and just obliterating the keys on it, or if you are banging out a paper at 70WPM, this thing is basically silent.
An added bonus to this technology is each key-depression feels also like it's padded. I definitely like that as well, less fatigue during long gaming sessions a/o normal typing/general activities.
Above the numeric keypad are 3 "Media" button and a scrollable wheel which I use for media. It is so much better than having to go back into the app to change the volume.
Being an RGB keyboard, you can have endless fun (as I have) using the Razer app to customize the colors. You can use their presets (Like fire, breathing, etc) or you can mix/match between them OR create your own static setting.
What I have personally done is assign each "zone" a different color (number keys are dark blue/F keys are red/etc)
just for aesthetics this makes the keyboard awesome to look at and admire from afar.
This review is mostly rambling. But with me that is usually a good thing. I can't think of one negative thing to say. I even dig the padded wrist rest that magnetically (cool!) attaches to the bottom of the keyboard! No more sore wrists!
If you are in the market for a quality gaming keyboard - you can't go wrong with the huntsman v2. It is, in my opinion, the "best of the best".
Razer has proven themselves to be a quality company with quality products.

Great for gamers

Coming from a standard wireless mouse, the V3 definitely felt like an upgrade. Except in one area.
Unboxing and setting up are relatively straight forward. I appreciate the longish cord as well as the cloth-like covering on it. It makes the V3 feel more like a wireless mouse, and less "constrained" if that makes sense.
Buttons Buttons everywhere!
Ok. My other mouse had 4 buttons, including the wheel. Coming to the V3 made me immediately see the endless options for so many buttons.
In "standard" use, I use the two left bottom buttons as a back - forward combo for browsing. It also works perfectly in foobar2000 to switch tracks. Cool beans! There is a 3rd button below the top left button which can be assigned to whatever you want.
Of course you can read all this in the product description, so I'll try to be brief.
I love the texture of the mouse, and (what I consider) the thumb-rest on the left side. It (for me) is perfect, and I have gigantic hands. It actually feels like it is tailor-made for me.
Now, the one reason this didn't get 5 stars is a pet peeve of mine that freaked me out until I got it fixed with the Razer software - somewhat. That is, this mouse would not track on my glass slide out tray on my desk. I would move it around a foot in each direction, and the V3 acted like it was off. I later found settings in the wonderful Razer Synapse app that let me modify to DPI, and frequency settings. And the V3 began tracking on CLEAR glass.
In the settings, make it as sensitive as you can tolerate if you are using it on a glass-top. You will thank me later.
Also using the app you can program the RGB lighting on the V3 as you wish. There are several pre-defined modes (Fire, Breathing, Static, etc) - or you can create your own. OR (and this is what I love) you can mix it up by using a different setting for each RGB light. Going too far? Maybe, but I think it's fun. This is my first mouse with RGB lighting, so I'm like a kid with a new toy to play with.
If you also have a Razer Keyboard (which I highly suggest) you can sync the RGB of both together. And the results are....Stunning!
This is the perfect mouse not only for gaming, but for daily use as well. In looking at competitors, none offered the quality or the range of features that the V3 provides.
I am a Razer customer for life now. Quality products at a reasonable price range. I would recommend this to anyone.

Good entry level gamer. Minor reservations

Here we have the latest "It's an alienware, but it isn't" G series laptop.
Unboxing reveals the G15 and its (hefty) charger.
I'm a fan of the design of the laptop, with its faint speckles. It makes the laptop standout among its competitors.
Yes, it is plastic. But, it feels solid. More-so, it is hefty. This will not be a "Take it to the bedroom and game on your lap" laptop. I would recommend any of Best Buy's laptop cooling-pads or stands if you want to do this.
To me, heft = quality.
The touchpad was rather sensitive at stock settings. I have corrected that. But while gaming, I prefer to use a mouse anyway.
The display at 120Hz is awesome to me (I'm used to 60Hz on my displays). But, the reason for Dell not to go 144???? I guess price.
Latest COD at max gives around 62fps.
Unlike my old laptop there is no screen tearing or freezing, due to the dedicated 3050 Ti. This also is my first laptop with its own dedicated GPU, and not one that relies on an integrated GPU. The only downside of this, is the fan revving up at higher graphical output.
8GB of RAM? What's up with that? The standard for most serious gamers is a minimum of 16gb on a game-top. Good thing is it can easily be upgraded. But, I feel we shouldn't have to do this.
The 512GB Hynix NVME is speedy, and makes things on the non-gaming side of things open extremely fast. As others have mentioned, for modern gamers this isn't enough. Again, it can be upgraded. But I feel we shouldn't have to do this.
On a non-hardware note - the Windows "Out of Box Experience" was rather shoddy, to say the least. Something kept it from completing. Thankfully Dell's included recovery software allowed me to wipe the drive and do a fresh install w/ the included updates already installed. This fixed that problem. Also good to note, this will be good to go when Windows 11 is released.
Connectivity is good. In my office I have it running off of the LAN. When testing WiFi, the included software maximized that experience. But speeds on Wifi did not increase, mind you. I'm on a WiFi6 network anyway. So running off WiFi was almost like being cabled.
To sum it all up, this is a good Laptop for high end Flight SImulators, ROMS, etc.
Yes you can play the newer games but you won't be able to fit too many on the stock hard drive, and the 8GB of RAM may be a bottleneck.
Use as a regular laptop, however, excels.
It is like this is the "best office/regular use machine that wants to be a gamer but isn't quite there" laptop.

Keeps improving. Meets expectations!
on September 13, 2021
Posted by: MemphisTechieRN
from Bartlett, TN, USA
As an owner of a previous model of "ecotank" printer, I am pleased to see this line continue - with improvements!
If you have never owned one before, you are in for a treat!
You will not have to buy ink for two years (or more) because of the adoption of a self-contained "tank" system. Simply fill the tanks up with the provided ink, and BAM, you are set for 24 months of lovely, full color printing and copying! The quality is outstanding. Photo printing (on photo paper, glossy, matte, card stock - I have tried them all!) brings you vivid, crisp images. The text on documents is just as crisp.
The 4850 is certainly a stylish item, with the ability to print, copy, and scan. The auto document feeder comes in handy for when you have a stack of (up to 250!) pages to scan or copy. It has yet to jam on me, and I have given it a torture test of various paper types. What is a game changer in this department for me is that it does auto 2-sided printing. No more "did I turn the paper the proper way" thoughts will have to cross your mind.
You can control virtually all of the 4850's functions via its 2.4 color touchscreen. I have giant fingers, and it still did what I poked at, and did not register any false (giant finger) errors. What's more, using this in an office that has windows where the sun (it seems) comes in 24/7 - there is no glare from the touchscreen.
The 4850 also brings (easy to set up) connection options. Obviously, LAN is the easiest. Windows and Fedora (Linux) recognized it instantly. Same with the wireless connection option. Though, just for personal reasons, I prefer to use the LAN connection option as it fits my setup and use-case (office) better.
And that is not all! (Sounding a bit like an infomercial - not intentional!!!!!) you can print via your phones and tabs via the "Epson Smart Panel" app. This app is fantastic for those late night "I want to print this out, but I don't want to have to pull it up on my PC" moments. No connectivity issues with this either.
So, if the thought of getting an impressive printer, by an awesome company which allows you (along with the already pointed out impressive features) to print for 2 years without having to change cartridges sounds right up your alley.... Then the 4850 is right for you.
If not (and I cannot think of a single reason why NOT), go ahead and buy that other brand's slightly less expensive offering. In the same two years you could have been like me, and not had to change an ink cartridge; you will have had to change close to one hundred cartridges', in comparison, in your 2 years.
Do the math! Not only is the math on your side, but so is the environment. You have just saved one hundred ink cartridges', residual ink, and the usual wasteful packaging from such from entering landfills. If everyone adopted ecotank systems, it would be a good start!
Get the 4850 (you know you wanted to anyway. Or you would not have read this far).

A good all-around multitasker?
on August 26, 2021
Posted by: MemphisTechieRN
from Bartlett, TN, USA
If you know me, you know that I like tools and appliances that multi-task. If I can do two tasks at once, then more "me time".
So, the B&D steam-mop/vacuum combo seemed like a good fit.
Unboxing and setup was fairly straight forward. I usually look at the manual if something "stumps" me. This didn't. But I did review the manual later and it appeared to be put together in a hurry with no proof-reading.
The vac readily accepted the water to begin warming to steam. The primary use of this product will be bathroom tile floors. It is the one area where steam (which kills lots of bad stuff that lurks in the loo) is most appropriate IMO.
I did a once over with the vacuum first, and it did a good job of picking up small debris and pet hair (how it always gets in there is a puzzle).
Then it was on to the "Deep Clean" with steam. I was impressed that this didn't "spit" like other products I have used in the past. Those who are familiar with steam mops/cleaners know that "steam spitting" is a big waste of water. But again, the B&D did not spit once during my first use.
One thing I have to knock a star off for is the maneuverability. Getting it around the toilet area and under the bathroom cabinets was hard/near to impossible.
The results though are what keep this a 4 star product. The bathrooms were left sanitized and spotless. The mop head after use freaked me out at how dirty it was. I thought the tile was already pretty clean!
This is a good value for those wanting to save time. If you have floors you want to sanitize that aren't full of obstructions and are easy to navigate, then this is definitely the steam vac for you!

Great for dog owners!
on August 23, 2021
Posted by: MemphisTechieRN
from Bartlett, TN, USA
I have waiting a LONG time for a product like this to appear. And it is one of those "smack yourself in the head that I didn't come up with this" ideas.
My house is a mixture of hardwoods in the master, and tile and laminate in the rest of the house (carpet in my office, but.. meh).
I have always dreaded the weekly floor routine. Vacuuming up the dog hair and debris, and then mopping afterwards to sanitize/freshen.
Seeing that Mrs. TechieRN never wants to help, this product is a godsend!
I had to read the following a few times for it to sink in, and maybe you will too:
It vacuums and washes at the same time.
IT VACCUMS AND WASHES AT THE SAME TIME!
Not to mention it looks like something from NASA (hey, maybe this is how they clean the space station?) haha.
Anyway, upon opening the box which is packed very thoughtfully, you are presented with everything you need to get started (except for water ha).
The vacuum/washer was very easy to assemble. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the charging base/dock. Keeps everything where I need it.
Before going any further, I have to hand it to TineCo. Everything is ergonomic and where it needs to be. There are no "awkward" buttons, or tray releases. This means a TON to me.
The included cleaner and deodorizer smells heavenly. And I will stick with the brand once this bottle is empty.
Lets get to it!
In a weeks time (Saturday-Saturday) my house floors go from clean to a giant dog-fur warehouse. And with that fur is dander and a bunch of other nasties. Of course if Mr. Barks has an accident, then that is handled immediately (which the S5 also does wonders on!). And it gets into all the hard to reach corners.
My previous routine was described above. Now.. Now.. It is so simple. And I was a skeptic at first. That one product could do both jobs. Cutting worktime in half! And it does.
There was no spot, no corner, no fur-ball it could not handle. Someone spilled a few drops of a beverage on the laminate (cough cough) and forgot. The next day, it was a sticky mess. But the S5 made it like it never even happened!
Not sure if the floor is completely clean/washed? Don't worry - the S5 KNOWS! On the "iLoop" display (an LCD display) the ring will turn completely blue when the floor or surface is clean. Eliminating all the guesswork!
Cords? No. This thing is powerful and cordless. I get a fantastic 30 minutes of runtime (and I'm really REALLY working it).
Don't want to touch anything icky? The S5 has you covered there too with a self cleaning function. Also, the S5 is dual tank. The clean and dirty water never mix.
I am OCD when it comes to cleaning, and I thought my old routine was the best. I was wrong! The S5 has my floors looking BRAND NEW. The tile shines. The hardwood shines. The Laminate shines. Before it was "just" clean. Now it is clean and beautiful! WITH HALF THE EFFORT!
There are absolutely no negatives I can find with this product! It is absolutely PERFECT! And that is saying a lot coming from me!
Thank you Tineco!

Wired, but not tethered
on August 4, 2021
Posted by: MemphisTechieRN
from Bartlett, TN, USA
As a loyal Arlo customer going back to the Arlo 1 days, I was quite intrigued by their new indoor offering.
As the title states, yes this is a “wired” camera. However, do not let that throw you. Most of the time (in my cases anyway) my cameras remain stationary. So even the “wireless” ones that ran on a battery, I would have plugged in anyway. Who wants the battery to run out at a crucial time?
Anyway, this beauty goes wherever Wi-Fi can reach. Which at my house, is pretty much anywhere. My use case, however, is the stairway to my office. A quick criticism, Arlo is still running off the 2.4 band. Sure it “may” be fast “enough,” but the way things are advancing, 2.4 may be outdated soon and I would hate to see things like this become obsolete due to a technicality.
Installation was a breeze and I connected in no time. Arlo offers a free trial to their services, which I am aware of already. But the best part is that you can give it a shot, and if you like it, then their cheapest plan is like 2 or 3 dollars a month.
The camera is stylish, small, (not too small though), and feature packed. Love the motion detection – because other than me (and occasionally doggo) nothing else should trip the detection during the day. And nothing at all should at night. For those that may have the camera in a “sensitive” location, there is the new “privacy shield” which is one of those “I wish I would have thought of that!” inventions/features that should come standard on all sec-cams.
If you are away and you notice something is awry, there is an (ear-piercingly) loud siren you can deploy from the app. Yes, your neighbors will hear it. Mine did. It took a “just in the nick of time” text from me to prevent them from calling the authorities out of concern. Funny thing is, when I told them about what emitted that sound, they immediately were interested and wanted the link to BestBuy’s site for the cam! They say they bought three, so, they should be well prepared.
Picture quality is fantastic. Even in night vision mode, things are easy to make out. And I am impressed.
Impressed is a word I have used a lot with offerings from Arlo. Very few, if any, negatives to point out that I have not already. If you want to deploy one camera, or three – like my neighbors – you would make the right choice going with Arlo. In a decade, not one of their cameras have ever failed me. Indoor or outdoor! That speaks a lot!
TLDR -> Need an indoor security camera? Gotta get this one!

Good for certain use cases. Not for others
on July 24, 2021
Posted by: MemphisTechieRN
from Bartlett, TN, USA
Always on the lookout for new storage solutions (after-all, I can never have enough storage!) I decided to give the SanDisk Ultra 256GB USB 3.0 Type-C Flash Drive a try.
First, the drive itself is made of the usual sliding plastic enclosure. With such a (potentially) large amount a storage being on the drive, you would think that SanDisk would ramp up the physical protection of the drive. I get the feeling if it were dropped on a hard floor (thankfully my office is carpeted, and I am clumsy) that it might break or shatter one of the components. Why not metal? Or at least some sort of rugged polymer that would offer more protection? Oh well, it is what it is. Also, I can't see leaving this plugged in on a laptop that needs to be bagged, or even from a desktop that's in a heavily transited area.
Plugging this drive in since it's USB 3.0-C I was expecting blazing speeds. At least what it said it could provide (150Mbps) at a maximum. Heck, I would have been happy with 125Mbps. Testing on a windows 10 desktop I got an average speed of 75Mbps. On a Fedora 34 cinnamon desktop, the performance increased slightly to 85Mbps. Neither of which, obviously, came anywhere near the promised speeds.
Now to be honest about something that I think is a lot more prevalent than what the manufacturers realize. The first thing I do when plugging in a new drive is format it. This effectively wipes out any included software that comes pre-placed on the drive. The only time I use the included software is if it is a NVME or SSD "brand specific drive health" app. That's it. This would, at least one would assume, give the drive a "fresh slate" to perform better.
But, in the case of this drive nada. Thinking that maybe the file system was the culprit I tried various systems (NTFS, etc.). I again tested on both desktops. No cigar. Still well below the advertised speeds.
I was hoping to use the drive to install an OS to, to use as a portable setup. But with this performance, that would lead it to being impossibly sluggish.
HOWEVER. If you are using this drive to simply backup - say - some photos or other important items, and then throw (well, don't throw it) in a drawer... Then sure, this drive would be for you. But if you are expecting this to be a "daily driver" type of storage solution, no-way-Jose.
But one thing we all must remember is that flash drives (almost) always will underperform vs an SSD, NVME, or even some platter HDD's. So don't expect that just because the drive connects via a USB protocol that allows blazing fast speeds, that the drive will do so.
In the case of the SanDisk Ultra 256GB USB 3.0 Type-C Flash drive, it does not deliver blazing fast speeds, or even the speeds the manufacturer says it will.
Keep the above in mind. Especially the use case that you plan on using this drive for. For some, again, it will be just fine.
So, I can recommend it only for long term storage that you will disconnect and store somewhere safe.

What and how do I connect the desktop with the monitor?

Either with an HDMI cable or a Display Port cable. There are ports on the back of the PC.

I have Apple tv 4th Gen which is NOT a 4K device. I just bought this tv which replaced my old HDTV. I do not see any difference in picture quality (from my old tv as compared with this Sharp 4K tv). Is this because of the fact my apple tv is not 4K?

Yes.
You can't get 4k resolution from devices that don't output 4k.
So of course, the quality will be the same as your old tv - unless you get a device that outputs in 4k.

I have been reading the comments by other customers. I just picked up the tv & found out this thing doesn’t have a web browser. How do I download one if that is possible??

You can download the web browser via the TV's included app store. I just did the other day. It's pretty cool as it renders the sites exactly (and as quickly) as a browser on a laptop.

Do NOT buy this SHARP I got one in Nov and it glitched a lot one day my 5 year old was watching and it froze She taped the screen with the remote and the screen cracked Sharp doesn't make replacement screens Best buy protection won't cover it i'm screwed

Tap + 5yr old = threw remote at the screen like an MLB player? Perhaps.
Pretty sure best buy protection wouldn't cover intentional damage like this for any item. To say this is an issue with the Sharp brand is quite the stretch.

If I attach an external CD Drive, can I copy/burn something onto a disk? Thanks.

Yes, if it can be installed on another windows 10 device, it can be installed here. You will need to get a USB-A to USB-C adapter as there are no "regular" usb ports. Just usb-c.

You only get 128GB SSD and 4GB of Memory for this price? Fail.

Storage is expandable. This tablet is a fail? Far from it. I'm enjoying mine. Sadly it is already back-ordered on most sites. So perhaps this is just a case of sour-grapes on your part, or you are a MaC fan, OR you just couldn't afford this and had nothing positive to contribute. For everyone else, this tablet is AWESOME. It has handled everything I've thrown at it within reason. Obviously it's not meant to play games in full frame rate - but everything else - YEP!
