Most straps for the Apple watch are practically silicone based and are quite similar to the originals included when you buy an Apple watch. If not, your options would be leather, nylon and the steel mesh.
The Insignia Braided Nylon Band for the Apple watch is more of an exception to the other but rather vanilla designed silicone, leather and braided metal or steel straps found elsewehere.
The Insignia braided nylon band is essentially a one piece strap which is made of stretchable material. And though the product descriptions indicates it as made from nylon, for me it seems more like cotton as it is soft.
Construction of the Insignia case seems to be well built. The nylon fabric (which again seems more like cotton) seems to be premium grade. The buckle and the metal thingies used to attach to the Apple seem to made with lightweight metal and are painted black. The paint finish seems to be well made but only time will tell if it will last. But so far so good. Only time will tell if it will last. Once worn, there is a good "latch" of the watch to your wrist making it good enough for most activities.
Overall, the strap seems to be of good qulaity and comes in several colors. Mine comes in a somewhat olive drab color. And everything said, this seems to be a good watch and is worth recommending to others.

Arlo has been one leading wireless security camera systems in the past few years. The Arlo Essential Outdoor Camera. This is a second generation model but with minor enhancements. And like other Arlo cameras, this security camera is battery operated. But this time around, the battery is built-in unlike the first generation cameras from Arlo which I currently use. Charging the Arlo device is done by USB charging. Do note that only a cable is provided. You have to provide your own charger though.
The main features of Arlo is live video streaming and audio which is pretty much standard fare nowadays. This camera by the way is in HD or 1080p and not 4K. But in real life application, 4K is too much and that 1080 seems to be the sweet spot.
And for those not familiar with Arlo, Arlo systems being battery operated is not open 24/7 in order to save battery life. This is where it seems to shine as it is vey convenient. A single charge can last for months and being wireless, this means installation is pretty much a breeze since one you do not to wire it to your base station and two you do not need a nearby outlet. Do note that the Arlo like most internet devices use the 2.4Ghz band for further reach. But one thing to note is that this model can be used with abase or no base at all. I have the first generation Arlo system that uses a base but this will be included in my list of Arlo devices.

The Arlo system is also known for its being customizability. Of course motion detection is a standard. And so are timers = to activate them or not. Videos are stored in the cloud and viewable for a week for free. Should you decide you want a longer time, Arlo offers a paid version of their services which allows you to save the videos longer.
But one thing that stands out for me is the geofencing capabilities of the Arlo system. This practically enables you to automatically operate the Arlo system wherever you go. Most of the time you would forget to activate your Arlo system when you leave your house. With geofencing, the Arlo will activate once you leave the house and turn off when you go back home. This feature is the most handy for me.
And lastly Arlo has incorporated Alexa and Ok Google to its products. This is not a dealbreaker for me since for privacy and security reasons, I tend not to use any of these services. But for those who use these services, Arlo also has a solution for you.
Overall, the Arlo Essential Outdoor Camera is a nifty wireless camera and I highly recommend this security camera.

A great budget laptop

In the age of ultra-portable and fast laptop computers and 12-inch tablets, one would wonder if there is still a use case for entry level budget laptops. Lenovo’s IdeaPad 1 is one such laptop.
First of all the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 is no speed machine. It sports a Celeron N4020 processor with a minimal 4GB of RAM. Storage is 64GB but not SSD but rathe EMMC. This definitely won’t wow speedfreaks out there. Also the N4020 is also dated. So the question is can a dated Celeron still be relevant in 2023?

First thing is that this IdeaPad runs on Windows S which some may find lacking. But it’s quite easy to convert it into Windows Home. I won’t discuss it here but you can always go to YouTube. But setup is a breeze and I installed Microsoft 365. It handles Outlook, Word, PowerPoint that well. But I really cant say the same for Excel as I only tested small spreadsheets. But if I try work related spreadsheets which can have hundreds of rows, then I believe this can suffer. Also, surfing with MS Edge is fine. But it kind of struggles when there are many websites open. Google Chrome seems to fare the same. But I understand, Google Chrome is a memory hog. So overall speed performance for me is acceptable. But one thing that disappoints me is that it uses the slower and older eMMC storage rather than an SSD.
But what about the hardware. The IdeaPad sports a 14-inch LCD screen. As expected, it is not tiuch screen capable. It has a matte screen which I prefer compared to glossy screens. Unfortunately, the screen is only at 720p. I’d personally favor it if the screen is 1080p. But then again this is a budget computer.
The laptop itself is of decent quality and not plasticky as some similar laptops come. Also, it’s cloud grey color gives it more polish. The keyboard IMO is topnotch for its class. It’s not “rickety” as some keyboards are. It has the basic HDMI port, two USB ports and one USB-C port, an SD card slot and a headphone jack. But what is notable is the battery life of this laptop is that it is rated at 11 hours which is in tablet territory. Most laptops would fall under around four hours of battery life.
While the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 is no speed monster, it still has its uses especially for those with a limited budget. That said I’d still recommend this laptop.

Simple and easy to use

Vtech is a name associated with quality baby products, the 5 inch smart wi-fi 1080p pan and tilt monitor is one such product. Using the said baby monitor is pretty much easy. Just plug the monitor and the camera and just make sure they are near one another and you are good to go. Please note that the monitor itself has an internal batter so that you can move it around. But the problem with a direct connection is that the distance between the monitor and camera is that it is limited. The good thing here is that there is a wifi option for this monitor. But more on that later.
Operation of the baby monitor is simply straightforward. Press the menu button on the monitor and you can have access to its main features including a pairing command to your phone. Features include what Vtech calls the WeeSleep sound and light profile which helps set the tone for baby to sleep. To add it has a touch adaptive color night light again sets the mood for baby to sleep. The included camera a a pan, tilt, and zoon function and also includes 24 times zoom capability. Resolution of the camera is at 1080p only. For some this may be a big deal but for me it is fine since I am not making movies and truth be told is already quite decent since we are talking about a five inch screen here.
As mentioned earlier, there is an app for this baby monitor and it is available in both iOS and Android. Do note that most video enabled devices utilize only the 2.4Ghz band for a greater range presumably. Once connected you can update your firmware. But in my unit, the product is up to date. With that you can have an extended baby monitor.
The Vtech Smart Wi-Fi monitor is a fairly simple product but is quite capable and simple to use. I would highly recommend this for those who have new borns.

Mobile gaming is a somewhat neglected segment in the gaming industry. Quite often mobile gaming is limited to simpler games. And AAA games which are ported to mobile gaming are often limited to the lack of controls especially when phones nowadays barely have any buttons. One such solution is to add a game controller designed for mobile device. But the problem with most mobile game controllers is they tend to be big. The Turtle Beach Atom Controller is one such solution.
The Turtle Beach Atom Controller is a blue tooth powered mobile game controller. It is charged via USB – C cable wherein a cable is also provided. What separates this device from other mobile game controllers is that it is modular making it compact when not in use thereby making it a portable accessory. It is joined magnetically making it compact. But once separated it fits into both ends of your phone. Please note that this version is for the iPhone. And though it i connected via Bluetooth, there is no guaranty that it would work on Android devices.
Once paired and attached to my iPhone 13 Pro, I tried it with several mobile games. First is that most games will connect automatically like with Asphalt 9. But I’ve noted that there might be some control issues. And for games such as Call of Duty, I am of the understanding that it works only in multiplayer mode. So your mileage may vary.

A versatile controller!

Third party game controllers are pretty much common nowadays. Often they provide the same functionality as OEM but at a much better value and most of the time with lesser quality. The Thrustmaster Eswap XR Pro Controller in my honest opinion is an exception to this. Designed for both the Xbox and PC, the Thrustmaster Eswap Pro provides a good value for the money.
First the build quality is rather excellent. Like most other controllers it is made of plastic. But unlike others which feel light and flimsy, this controller has some amount of heft into it. The unit is plugged via USB-C which is pretty much standard nowadays. The keypads and joysticks offer a good amount of tactility in it providing for a smooth gaming experience.

The Thrustmaster eswap XR pro controller is a high value device> And I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a controller.

Now that the iPhone 15 is out one may wonder if a lightning cable is still useful. It is if you have an iPhone 14 or older. And let’s admit it that Apple’s lightning cables are not of the best quality durability wise hence making you consider third-party but Apple (or MFi) certified cables. By being Apple or MFi certified, you can be assured of full compatibility as compared to original Apple accessories. The Insignia USB-C to lightning cable is one such device.
Being an Apple certified accessory, you can be assured that the Insignia cable will charge as good as the original and also perform the same as the Apple branded cable when it comes to data transfer. What differentiates it from Apple cables is its build quality. First the Insignia cable is braided which makes it less prone to ripping. Also, the ends are made of a seemingly metallic material most likely aluminum.
There is a strong case as to why one should consider this instead of the original cable as a replacement cable or extra cable. It simply works like the original and is more durable. I'd say just buy and use it.

It's not only for gaming!

Gaming headsets are very common nowadays. So what the Rig 600 Pro HX has to offer is somewhat unique to me. First let’s talk about the design. First the headset is made of plastic which makes it lightweight and ideal for hours of use. The grip of the headband is tight but not too tight making it comfortable to wear. The earcups and headband cushion is made from a soft fiber material. So overall, it’s really comfortable to use.
The Rig 600 Pro HX is wireless only and is connected to your device via a hybrid dongle connected by USB C and bluetooth. Being hybrid it can connect to Xbox, PX, Plyastation and Switch. But I would prefer if it had also a BT only connectivity. Battery life is rated at 18 hrs which is pretty decent.
It has a retractable boom mic which I prefer since I would want to use it as a music only headset. And arguably the best option for me hear is the incorporated Dolby Atmos. I have several headsets that are supposedly Atmos compatible but when I download the Atmos app in Windows, nothing seems to happen. But not with the Rig 600. The Atmos app immediately recognizes the headset and there is not need for an in-app purchase.
Overall, the Rig 600 Pro HX is an excellent pair of headphones and there is not much to write about it since it simply works. I would recommend this to everyone.

A great gaming laptop!

Gaming laptops seem to be going generic these days as they all sport the same processor and graphics cards. So what makes the Gigabyte G5 KF special?
First lest look at the specs. The G5 KF sports a 12the gen Intel i7 cpu and an Nvidia RTX 4060 gpu. Making this computer on of the faster gaming laptops in the market today. Also it has a 144hz refresh rate and a 1080p resolution for its 15.4inch lcd screen.
And while this is pretty normal for gamers, what sets it apert are the number of ports available for me makes it stand apart. This is coming who has a gaming laptop without an sd card reader even. First this laptop has three USB ports two of which are USB-C 3.2 while the other one is a USB 2 port. It has the standard HDMI output but one top of that it also has a display port thereby giving you more options for connecting to an external monitor. On top of that it also has the standard mic and audio ports and an ethernet port as well.
This model comes with the standard 16GB RAM but can be increased to 64GB RAM. Memory is also at the standard 512MB which for me is totally lacking for gaming but sufficient for basic office use. But you can always increase storage. I understand that there is a second NVME for expansion. There is no expansion slot for a SATA SSD. Unfortunately, there are security seals in two screws for this model and I am afraid that this may void my warranty.
This laptop has Windows 11 installed right out of the box. What pleases me is that it comes with almost a stock version of Windows 11 save for Gigabyte’s control center which enables you to customize some settings and also monitors your system.
I really haven’t maximized this computer yet as I do plan to replace the storage to 2TB. But as of now this computer is a performer and I highly recommend this laptop.

A worthy gaming laptop!

The Bravo 15 B7E is one of MSI’s latest gaming laptops and I am about to share my experiences with this laptop as nowadays these tend to be generic. First of all the laptop I received was defective having no audio. After doing initial troubleshooting such as resetting the SSD and even checking BIOS, I decided to get in touch with MSI. As expected from a computer company, turnaround time for repairs often take up to two weeks to be completed. But after getting an RMA and sending it to MSI, I was pleasantly surprised through their own repair tracking system that my laptop was repaired the same day and was even shipped to me at the end of the day. And while I was not entirely happy that a brand new laptop is defective, the quick turnaround of MSI is an indication that the company provides excellent support. And given that gaming laptops are not cheap, this is a welcome sign that MSI stands by its products. Kudos to MSI on that!
Now this laptop has a Ryzen 7 with a Radeon 7735HS CPU and a Radeon 6650 GPU. This is comparable to an Intel i7 chip and an RTX 4050 series GPU. And though AMD computers have a reputation being hot, this model boasts of what MSI calls Cooler Boost 3 technology. And surprisingly enough it doesn’t get that hot. But perhaps, the among of slot openings under the chassis help a bit. I have an older AMD based gaming rig and that one does get hot. I wasn’t able to actually check the temperature of the laptop as I felt I didn’t need to since it does not get hot.
The laptop has only 512GB of storage. For casual or business users, this amount is normal. But for gamers, this may be a big deal. As such, I immediately replaced the stock SSD with a Samsung 2TB SSD. To maintain all original settings of the Bravo, I cloned the SSD first. However, I was surprised to find out that there seems to be no provision to include SATA SSD. Now this may be a dealbreaker for some but for me I can always partition the SSD. That said I still wish that it had included a provision for expansion. Also, the system has included 16GB of RAM expandable up to 64GB. Right now I am fine with 16GB but may upgrade the system to 32GB.
The system also has a 1080p monitor running at 144hz which provides good latency. However, I wish it had a 4K monitor. But that is all moot to me since I have a 4K monitor and surely the system can handle it.
So far the system is perfectly cable of running AAA games. But still Intel and Nvidia purists may still have their qualms about this, I am sure that this system shall not disappoint!

This is a fine camera in many ways, but after losing some photos and a conversation with Panasonic, I learned that you must use the included panasonic software to download photos. (I use Picasa.) That makes the camera less than 5 star, since iPhoto would have the same problem - so if you buy this, and it is a fine piece of equipment, use their photofun software to downloard

The wifi performance is good. However I found it odd that when I used fast.com to measure speed, the phone registered 20 mbps which by itself pretty good if you're using a phone. But since I ran it simultaneously with my pc, my pc had a 70 mbps. Also the processor is not bad. It is not the latest and is commonly found in low end or rather entry level android phones. If you want a better phone you might want to consider the POP 4S which is similar but has an octa-core processor at 1.8 GHz, 2GB RAM 13 mp camera with a fingerprint sensor at $170. This sells for $150. So the $20 dollar difference is worth it. But the Black Friday deal sells at $50. So I got this phone. :)

I wanted to like this phone. The specs were just fine. The screen was just fine. The only complaint I had was that the phone reboots frequently. Fresh off a factory reset, it would constantly reboot before I could even set it up. As a software engineer, I am disappointed that software like this can even be released. This is not the way to showcase a brand and the reason for many returns on otherwise perfectly fine hardware.

A lot of Alcatel models are like this including my Pop 4+. It seems that if you have a boot loop, let the phone rest for a few minutes then restart. do this even if you have wiped data. But this shouldn't happen at all especially for a new phone.

Alcatel uses older underpowered cpu which slows performance compared to currently available android marshmallow phones. Alcatel does support adoptive SD card storage unlike LG and Samsung. Dual sim is a plus. Needs better processor to be competitive.

as mentioned in the title, if you need a faster phone get the 4S. It has a 1.8Ghz processer and 2GB RAM. There are three POP 4 phones - POP 4/POP 4 Plus/POP 4S wherein the 4 Plus is the mid-tier POP 4 phone. But for $49.99 during Black Friday, why not?

The phone keeps restarting even though the battery has more than enough charge. I've tried a hard reset and that hasnt helped. A factory reset stopped the cycle and i managed to use the phone for like 20 minutes and the phone restarted. When we ordered the phone, we also ordered a case from a third party. At first we thought the case was pressing the power button because it was a tight fit but it didnt seem right. There was also an incident i had in the past with the one touch evolve that was exactly the same. I would like to hear back and now if this can be fix :) Have a nice Day!

After having the phone for less than 1 month, I took it on vacation where I didn't have service. On the way my phone started to restart randomly. When I arrived at my destination the phone started into a reboot loop. If I caught it booting up quick enough occasionally I could navigate for a couple minutes. Even after I was able to get wifi connected and any other setting I thought could affect it such as gps location disabled the phone continued into the reboot loop. After researching on many blogs and andriod q and a sites I couldn't find a helpful answer to remedy the issue. I reluctantly did a factory reset but the loop continued. Finally, after returning back home I attempted to use the phone and it returned to "normal". I am very dissatisfied and I am generally very easy to please. I will be looking for another device to replace this asap.

I also did the factory reset to ease the symptoms. But it seems to be the gps module as then random reboots often occur when I am in my car and mobile. Also when I use Yelp and try to get directions, the phone restarts. No problem when I'm home though.

I purchased this phone on black Friday because bestbuy was selling at $50, the phone had 2-yrs warranty, and Alcatel is one of the few good brands. I was excited about this purchase thinking that I paid only $50, but my excitement did vanish in a couple of days when I found that the phone restarts itself. After keeping an eye on the phone for a few days, I found that it restarts only when I drive or I am in a remote area. I googled about the issue and luckily found the reason behind restart. I am using T-mobile connection and had turned 4G LTE on. The 4G LTE service of T-mobile is not available in all areas of ABQ and therefore whenever I drove in areas where T-mobile signal was weak, phone used to restart. My phone never restarted in my school or in my house as T-mobile signal is excellent in these places. To fix the issue, I changed the network settings in my phone and set 3G as the default data service and after that it never restarted.
So, if any of you are facing restart issue, just stop using 4G LTE and use 3G. This solution worked for me. Hopefully it might work for you,too.
My finding is - this phone supports 4G only if the strength of the signal is excellent, otherwise, it restarts itself. But I don't know why doesn't it ,like other brands, work in case of bad signal. My friend has samsung phone and she never had the restart issue though we go to all the places together in the same car.
All other features of this phone are like samsung phone - my the most favorite brand. I haven't observed any other issue and the phone works like charm. Speed, sound quality (the default music player doesn't have equalizer, so you might try VLC music player), picture+video quality, and call quality are just superb. Finally I started loving this phone.
So, if any of you are facing restart issue, just stop using 4G LTE and use 3G. This solution worked for me. Hopefully it might work for you,too.

I called tech support and was informed that there is an issue with this phone. Alcatel promptly replaced my phone with newer firmware and presumably hardware and the problems of random reboots have gone.

Right now it's the Samsung HW-N950. It's a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos/DTS-X system. I have the lower Samsung HW-N850 and a Bose 500. I have compared sounds and also read reviews of 2018 models. Right now the N950 is king.
