Stephen King puts pen to paper and paper to celluloid with the spooky haunted house TV movie Rose Red. Lion's Gate's work on this 1.33:1 full-frame transfer is great, sporting solid colors and dark black levels. While there are quick moments where the image tends to appear a tad soft, overall this is a very nice transfer with a pleasing appearance (especially for a TV movie). The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround in English, French, and Spanish. This 5.1 soundtrack is very well-mixed with a multitude of eerie, atmospheric sounds to scare even the most steel-hearted viewer. No distortion or hiss was detected in any of the dialogue, music, or effects. Also included on this disc are English and Spanish subtitles. This two-DVD set includes a very nice array of extra features, starting with a commentary track by director Craig Baxley, producer Mark Carliner, and a few brief appearances by some of the crew. This is a very long and engaging commentary that slows down a bit at the end, though overall, there are some interesting and informative stories to be heard. A 50-minute documentary titled "Bad House: The Making of Rose Red" is in-depth and features interviews with cast members Nancy Travis, Julian Sands, Matt Keeslar, Judith Ivey, and Melanie Lynskey, as well as author Stephen King. This feature chronicles the film from development to production to airing and should give viewers a better understanding of how it came to the screen. "Unlocking Rose Red: The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer" is a nearly half-hour faux documentary that is interesting, if a bit trite. Finally, there are some storyboards of three separate scenes, a gallery of artwork from the conceptual stages of the film, and some video promo spots for other Lion's Gate movies.

This was one of Stephen King's better mini series'. I like it because the plot is based off of a real house, the Winchester mystery house. I thought this was put together well. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some other good Stephen King mini series' are Nightmares and Dreamscapes, and Tommyknockers.
What's great about it: Based on a real house.
What's not so great: A little too long, as with most mini series.
This is a terrible movie, unless you're under 12 years old. I watched it with my two daughters, 10 and 13. They said it was just ok. (Keep in mind, they like Hannah Montana?!) This reminded me of Twilight, which was terrible. But, my kids loved it! I don't know why it's rated PG-13, it's a kids movie, just like Twilight. They could pass for Disney films. For everyone else, don't waste your money like I did! If your looking for a nice little family film to watch with the kids, let me recommend Repo: The Genetic Opera or Sweeney Todd. My little girls love those movies!
This was a good horror movie with lots of thrills and chills, and great special effects. In fact, they should've used some of those special effects to add some weight to Odette Yustman. Not only was she a terrible actress, but she was so sickly skinny I thought she was going to fall down and die half way through the film. I don't like all these scrawny pencil figured women they've been using in movies lately. What happened to the hourglass figure? Gary Oldman was the only good actor in the film, in my opinion. (He's the only reason I gave the acting 3 stars. Aside from him, I'd probably give the rest of the cast 1 star.) Other than that, it was a great movie with a good storyline. I highly recommend it.
What's great about it: Good plot, great special effects, and Gary Oldman.
What's not so great: Poor acting, namely Odette Yustman!
This is the most pointless film I've ever seen! I strongly urge you to not buy this terrible movie! It's a waste of time, wanna-be Omen. Save your money for something better, like The Omen!
Aside from the refrigerator scene, this movie was much better than I had anticipated! Lots of action, great storyline, and great acting. I myself have done some studying on the true mystery of the real crystal skulls. Plus, the ending, which I don't want to spoil, is based on the ancient astronaut theory. (Google it.) I really enjoyed this movie and look forward to a 5th installment. I highly recommend it! (I assume everyone has seen the other three at this point, but a lot of people don't know that there's truth behind thier plots as well. Check it out.)
What's great about it: The plot has a lot of truth behind it, just like the other ones.
This could've been a good movie had Spike Lee not done it. He's bad about screwing up his own movies. Just like in 25th Hour, he goes off on these almost angry racial tangents that are just pointlessly thrown into the film and deviate from the plot. Because of that, this movie drones on for an hour more than it should have. The plot bounces you in five different directions that have no connection, then it just ends, rather patheticly! This was a great book and would've made a great movie had someone else done it. If I were the author, I'd be pretty upset. Spike Lee's interpretation of this story is just silly and pointless. I DON'T recommend this terrible movie! I feel like I just wasted 2 hrs. and 45 min. of my life!
What's great about it: The trailer was more intriguing than the movie.
I watched this movie with my two daughters, 10 and 13, they loved it! Personally though, I don't care for singing in movies. But, the kids seem to like it. If you're looking for a good family film to sit and watch with your kids, I'd say yes. But, for a serious adult film I'd say no. Most of the people I know that liked it were kids and teenagers. Most adults don't care for it. Like I said, it's a great kids movie.
I'm a huge fan of Stuart Gordon's work, and this movie didn't disappoint. Very creepy and very intriguing, I highly recommend it! Some other good Stuart Gordon films are Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak, and Edmond. (All of which star Jeffrey Combs!)
Don't get me wrong, this was a good movie with a neat twist at the end. But, after the twist, the movie just ends, rather abruptly. They could've elaborated more on the ending, I just thought it was weak. Other than that, it was a decent film.
What's great about it: Every little detail revolves around the number 3.
Two great movies, one low price! You get House of Wax which is a remake of the Vincent Price classic. And The Exorcist! This was my favorite as a kid and now we have it extended and digitally remastered. Just when I thought they couldn't improve one of the best horror movies ever made, they did. I love the extended version! I highly recommend this 2 pack!
What's great about it: The Exorcist extended version!
