LOUD! Some distortion at full volume. Bass is fine
on December 27, 2013

from Los Angeles, CA
Type of Listener:Audiophile
Most Important to Purchase:Price
How Often Used:1-2 times a week
Picked this up when it was 49.99 as one of Best Buy's Deals of the day.
I've been looking for a good BT speaker and I'm a bit of a speaker/headphone -phile. The sound quality is definitely on the high side of speakers of this size and caliber. Especially for the price. It gets much louder than the Jambox but it feels "bigger" because it is more like a rectangle log than a block like those speakers. It's certainly not BIG but it was actually bigger than I expected after reading reviews saying it was small... Bass is neutral and even as a speaker "should" be but these days people are all about vibrating everything around them when they listen to music. This won't do that. But turned all the way up the bass was able to shake the speaker enough to move it around on the table I had it on. It moved a good 2 inches over a 15 minute span of music.
At the price I got it at it is more than a steal and even for $100 it is well worth it over anything else in the price range. It is solidly built and does not feel cheap at all despite being a bit boring looking. It also is the only portable BT speaker I know of (there might be more of them) that has an easy to find and changeable battery.
If you are buying a speaker for looks this one isn't it. But for pure sound at a good price. I'd say give it a go!

What's great about it: Size, price and overall sound quality
What's not so great: Slight distortion at full volume

Best Smart Cover You will find for the iPad Air
on November 15, 2013
Posted by: mrxiro
from Los Angeles, CA
I reviewed the Mini's Smart Cover last year and overall I wasn't too fond of it, the magnets were weak and the colors were blah...
The Air's cover is the same design and this year's colors are a lot better. Though Red is still a little "orange-y" for my liking it doesn't look as bad this year against the Space Gray. On the Slate back of the Mini last year I hated it.
The magnets on this cover is a LOT stronger... strongest it's ever been on a smart cover I think... you have to really shake it hard to get the cover to come off. The of the cover and the folds are great at this side and really hold up when you're using it as a stand. The Mini's collapsed on me a lot. The Air's cover has not thus far.
For value, it is a little bit on the pricey side... though the older covers were 49.99 retail so at least it's cheaper than before. If feel like at 19.99-29.99 is a more fair price for the cover considering the quality.
My biggest knock against this cover, as it's been for the last 4 years, is that it can't stand your iPad up in Portrait mode. I recently picked up a full case (called an Origami case) that gives you 4 ways to stand your iPad up, including vertically in Portrait... If it wasn't for the fact that I really dislike back cases I would keep my iPad in it. But I like seeing the metal back of the iPad (protected by a clear skin similar to ZAGG Invishield) so I'm keeping the iPad Air Smart cover and tossing my Origami case in the drawer for that just in case day when I know I'm taking my iPad out to somewhere it's going to get a lot more manhandling. But because nobody else makes a smart cover I am not taking a star off for that.
This is truly a 5 star product and the only magnetic case you'll find for your iPad. There are a couple of knock off ones sold from China you can find on ebay but I wouldn't bother getting one of those as they don't have the quality feel as the official Apple Smart Cover.
My Best Buy number: 0075672713
What's great about it: Super strong magnets!
What's not so great: Red is a little Orange-y

Best PURE music player on the market
on January 30, 2013
Posted by: mrxiro
from Los Angeles, CA
Age Range:25-34
Number of MP3 Players Owned:More than 5
This player in my opinion is the best pure music player available now. It does cross-fade for music tracks and the music/audio capabilities are just unmatched but ANY brand of "mp3" player out there. For audio books and radio shows it is fantastic because from iTunes you can program specific start times of tracks (for if you want to skip the intro to radio shows or songs with really long intros that you don't like) as well as being able to continue where you left off on certain tracks. No other brand of audio player has this ability.
As a music player it bests all of Apple's other devices including the iPhone and iPad. The music "app" on the iDevices lack really a bit of the polish that the Nano has. Features like Cross fade, radio with time shift ability and the dedicated "rocker" volume switch that works as a Play/Pause,FFWD and REW button are things that this device has over any iPod Touch or iPhone that I truly love.
The audio quality is as good as any "MP3" player you will find on the market. It also handles Apple's Lossless codec but honestly if you're any sort of Audiophile you're not going to mess with too much compressed music to begin with. I've never tried or owned any of the much touted Cowon players that are said to have great sound but I doubt even my very well trained ears could really tell the difference.
The big sell on this device over any of the previous Nanos is the Bluetooth audio capabilities. This is the first Nano that you can go wire free which is amazing for a device this tiny. It's the size of some dedicated bluetooth transmitters I've seen on the market which again speaks of it's great design and engineering. As a side note; FM radio audio does not work without a plugged in headphones and you won't be able to use bluetooth at all if headphones are plugged in. The bluetooth is pretty good, though not nearly as strong as the one on the iPhones. I experienced some cutting out in areas where my iPhone did not. The quality is up there as one of the best I've heard. I couldn't hear too much compression as I had with past bluetooth adapters and devices. This mostly has to do with the type of software running the bluetooth to begin with and not a hardware thing.
One big minus for me especially as an device is that there is no Airplay ability. This is a HUGE minus for me since Apple has been really pushing their Airplay feature for the last few years and I currently have 3 devices I can Airplay to. This is because the devices does not have a Wifi chip so it also can not go online to stream Pandora or any of your favorite online radio sources, which also leads to no apps. But like I said this is a pure music player so things like apps and online are a moot point. Not being able to wirelessly synch your music to your computer stinks though.
Like most Apple products the 16gb Nano is no bargain at $149. I was able to pick it up with $10 off and a free $20 Best Buy card. I don't think I would have bought the device if it wasn't for the deal. $120 is a fair price for this Nano and if I was the company putting out this device I would have done an 8gb model for $99 and $129 for a 16gb.
16gb btw is very spacious for only audio for me. I only have about 3gb filled and I can't seem to think of any more music I want to put onto it even though I have about 90gb on my hard drive.
Apple has brought back the video player to this generation of Nanos. It's a cool to have feature that I will never use. I put a short film of mine on it just in case it's the only device I have on me at the time. But honestly nobody cares to watch a video on a large postage stamp sized screen.
If you're looking for a great mp3/music player that has bluetooth this is certainly the one to get. It's the tiniest one you'll ever find and the features on it are the best... I even own an iPhone 5 (best for fitness apps/phone/email) and an iPad Mini (best for watching videos/gaming/productivity) and I found a place in my life to have a Nano because no other device does music better.
What's great about it: Really small, light and thin, easy to use, bluetooth and beautiful design
What's not so great: Can't be worn as a watch anymore, no Airplay ability, low res screen
I would recommend this to a friend!

Between this and the S2440L... CHOSE THIS ONE!
on November 20, 2012
Posted by: mrxiro
from Los Angeles, CA
Picked up the S2440L the other day and used it for the last week on my 2012 Mac Mini. It never seemed to have the right color or contrast and overall I was never satisfied with how it looked. Sometimes it would look too dark contrast-y sometimes it would look washed out and bland. I bought the S2340M today and sat it side by side... this monitor blows the S2440L out of the water!
First, the screen and glass look like a single pane there is no gap under the glass like on the S2440L. The colors are richer, brighter and much more enjoyable to look at. I am not a gamer but I do video edit and accurate colors are really more important to me than refresh rate of the screen. I have yet to play any games yet but I'm doubting there will be an issue. This screen reminded me of a warmer iMac screen.
Interestingly though. There was a preset Mac color calibration for this monitor but there was NOT one for the S2440L on my Mac Mini.
Yes this model only has DVI, which is a slight nuisance, luckily my Mac Mini came with an adapter and I had a DVI cable lying around. The S2340L has HDMI but costs a few bucks more, the quality of both kinds of cables are exactly the same, HDMI just carries sound as well but none of these Dell models have built in speakers so it's moot.
I paid 149.99 for mine plus tax on sale this week, not the best price out there (Fry's had it for $139 a few weeks back) but a much better deal than paying 50+ dollars extra for the 1 extra inch the S2440L offers.
The black border around the screen is a lot thinner than the S2440L's as well. It is nearly edge to edge it is so thin. There IS a bezel at the bottom of the screen though. At first I thought it would be annoying but surprisingly it's not bad at all. I'm debating picking up 2 of these to have a dual screen set up!
What's great about it: IPS, Great Colors, Great contrast, Good price, stylish
What's not so great: DVI cable not included

Great for stand, ok for keyboard mode.

Being an avid iPad owner I have loved having smart covers ever since their inception. The ability to shut off the screen just by closing the iPad is great and though on the full sized iPad the Smart Covers tend to leave scratch marks on your iPad after a while.
These new iPad Mini Covers have the soft microfiber over the magnets and the whole construction is now the polyurethane that all the lower end Smart Covers are made of. It snaps on now with a gentler muffled thud and holds very tight still.
In "movie view" mode it works great! I love that it doesn't let the iPad actually touch the surface it sits on. The iPad itself floats like some sort of hovering magic slate while leaning against the folded Smart Cover. Keyboard mode on the other hand was less than satisfactory for me. Since there is one less flap on this cover than the full sized version, the triangle doesn't hold as tight. More often than I liked; the triangle would unfold while I was trying to type on the iPad Mini, but I do have to make note that I was laying in bed doing that. I have yet to try it on a flat surface.
Originally I bought the {Product} Red version but I didn't like the shade of red that they used. It's more "orange" than "fire engine" and just didn't fit my style, so I picked up the dark grey from Best Buy.
For the price I would consider these EXPENSIVE, but there were no 3rd party solutions that were to my liking as of this review. Being that these are quite a bit smaller a price point of $29.99 or even $19.99 would have been appreciated.
I'd buy if you had some reward zone credit to spend.
What's great about it: Strong side magnet, soft magnets now won't scratch iPad. Great in "movie mode" stand.
What's not so great: Weak front magnets and not great for "keyboard mode". Expensive.

Came with a dent... hinge magnet is a bit weak.
on June 20, 2012

from Los Angeles, CA
Just got my Ultrathin cover today from BestBuy.com sadly it came with a huge dent on the back cover straight out of the box. It works pretty good still though. I'm actually writing this review right now on the keyboard cover. I like it but typing on it is a bit cramped... probably how a netbook feels. Coming from using Apple's bluetooth keyboard it's a bit tougher to use though not impossible. I do find the delete key a bit small. I like a few of the dedicated keys like the home key, lock key and some of the heighlight keys when they actually work.
There is a globe key that I am assuming is a web browser key... but it doesn't open safari.
The best feature is the magnetic stand. It is the most secure stand you'll ever find for an iPad. It makes your iPad feel like a laptop. Makes reading on my lap the best experience I've ever had with an iPad.
The magnet hinge on this particular case isn't very strong. It fell off immediatlely the first time I put it on.
Still not sure if I'm going to keep it. Definitely not keeping this dented one though, but I'll need to see how Best Buy's exchange policy works on items not sold in stores. If it's a lot of trouble I'll have to just return it.
What's great about it: Best iPad stand I have ever used!
What's not so great: Shallow throw on keyboard

False advertisement: NO HDMI!
By jazzbird from Denver, CO
I just took this monitor home only to find out that I can't use it. Contrary to the specs listed on the Best Buy website, there is NO HDMI input on this monitor, only VGA and DVI (you can see the input ports on the last picture of the overview page if you scroll the pics to the right).
Since my new laptop only has HDMI out (no VGA), I must now decide whether to return the monitor or to shop around for an HDMI to DVI cable adaptor. I am not pleased, Dell/Best Buy.

Bad notes but it's a beautiful screen
October 31, 2012
I checked out this monitor and ultimately decided not to buy it because it did not have HDMI. But that is no reason to give it 1 star. The monitor is actually beautiful and was the best looking of all the monitors I saw displayed at Best Buy. at 169 it is VERY reasonable and quite the buy IMO. Best Buy and/or Dell did screw up in their notes about this monitor though. I got the new ViewSonic IPS monitor VX2370SMH-LED instead. For 10 more dollars at Best Buy it has HDMI and included speakers built in that look nice and have SRS Surround.

Excellent
By Srpawski from Michigan
Excellent monitor. Purchased for my parents. I have a Dell dual monitor U2412M combo for myself I purchased in August. This panel is on par, however, the Ultrasharp still has a better picture as it should for twice the price. FYI.. this model, the S2340M is identical to the S2340L other than the 2340M has DVI and VGA inputs instead of HDMI and VGA inputs that the S2340L now has. it appears both are 2012 models and that Dell has decided to discontinue the 2340M after coming out with it in July 2012 whereas the 2340L came out in late October 2012.

Discontinued?

I'm just curious... is THIS (s2340m) model with the DVI port the discontinued model or the model with the HDMI (s2340l) the discontinued model?
I thought that the (s2340) HDMI model came out first and has been discontinued. Am I mistaken?

Safari crashes when adding tab.
By Darkman1969 from USA
Bought yesterday and will take back. I was unaware of the Safari crash issue with ipad minis and Airs. Just google it and see. Follow the support forums on Apple to see what a problem this is. Very disappointing as I own iPad 2, MacBook Pro and Apple TV. How can an Apple native app not work on their own device?

It's not just adding a tab... I've gotten it to crash just opening up certain pages... I think it has to do with the 64-bit architecture... I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.

Shrug
By TechBugg from Baton Rouge, La
This watch was paired with my iPhone5. If you use your phone a lot, be prepared to charge the pebble because I was not able to go a full day without having to take the watch off to charge it. Off the bat, you can play music from your phone, but cannot control the volume. You are able to accept and decline calls, but only if you have an earbud/bluetooth in, otherwise you'd still have to fish for your phone if you accept the call. You can get weather updates and tinker around in the gigapet-like app store, but it lost my attention 2 days in. I did not feel the urge to go through every single compatible app to see if it can somehow be useful to my life. It's nice to get the updates on your wrist, but I'd rather keep my phone handy so I can speak to text or reply to my messages. Majority of the apps for this watch requires a companion app, which is a minus. The changeable watch straps are so-so. If you aren't allowed to have your phone out but enjoy looking at notifications from your social feed or text messages then this is a good product. It's almost chaos for me to add more to my list of items to charge as well as buy apps to make the watch useful. The watch kinda complicates life for me. I could go without this item. Maybe if they add a mic so that I am able to use voice commands then I would keep this item. It would be nice if it also came with a wireless earbud that attaches to the watch so I can accept calls without broadcasting my phone conversations while in public. Overall this is a good product, but doesn't work for me. It's almost like a boring updated beta product.

Maybe it's the user and not the watch.
February 28, 2014
I've have this watch for a week connected to my iPhone 5S and I can pretty much disprove many of your negative comments.
I'm not sure what apps you put on your watch but My watch dropped at a rate of about 10% a day... simple math dictates that it would last 10 days on a full charge.
Why would you want Pebble to give you a wireless headset? Don't you have one by now? If you're tech-forward enough to have an iPhone and a smart watch why would you not have at least 3 pairs of BT headsets lying around by now? I know I have a drawer full of them... You do know that you can connect a headset and a watch to your phone at the same time...
No you can't control the volume of your music from your watch... but if you had a pair of BT headphones or about 60% of the wired headphones sold (not including the one included with your iPhone) have a volume control on them already... music control is more so you can see what song is playing and skip or go back to it.
I'm not sure what you mean by changeable watch straps are "so-so" you know it's a standard watch strap size, right? There are literally thousands of watch straps you can get for this watch on the aftermarket... the included one is actually pretty nice and very light. Nothing fancy, for sure but it's the most comfortable watch I've bought in a long time. The whole watch is very light weight too... lightest one I've owned in well over a decade.
If you even look at the Pebble app store you'd see that the ratio of apps that don't need companion apps dwarfs needing on 5 to 1. Things like Runkeeper doesn't even need an "app" it just auto-connects when you start your exercise within the app.
The one thing you do have right is that it's missing a mic for replying to texts and such. Though you could easily do that if you were wearing the BT headset that you must not own. A reply button on the watch would be the only other missing thing.
It really sounds to me like you bought this with the sole intentions of disliking it and are completely reaching for reasons to return it. As an extensions device it does exactly what I want it to do. Alert me on things going on, on my phone without having to take my phone out of my pocket. I receive texts/FB messages/ Tweets and emails all on my wrist with a little vibration. When I run I can track my running progress without even touching the watch again after I start runkeeper. This watch is well ahead of its time and the only thing I would personally change is to have a touch screen over the clunky button interface... or have both.

Great console and an addictive fun game!

Great value if you're still waiting to pick up an Xbox One. This game has been the only disc sitting in my console since it launched!

Game comes as a download. Not a disc. You may have an Xbox One but you didn't buy this bundle.

Great Smart Watch
By Chesswizard from Scarsdale, NY
I wanted a smart watch and feel in love with the new Steel Pebble watch. It looks great, and works very well, It send me messages and text, and keeps great time. It can add applications but that are not as sophisticated as I would like. Tells me who is calling when I am working and do not have to tai out my mobile phone, and send me text and notifications. I wish it could send me email messages. I love the watch!

You can receive email messages on the Pebble watch... not the full message but just a few lines.

Improve your audio experience with this 2.1-channel Sony sound bar. It lets you enjoy wireless streaming from radio services with its Wi-Fi connectivity, and its S-Force PRO Front Surround technology produces dynamic audio details. This 350W Sony sound bar supports playback of high-definition audio formats from Bluetooth-enabled devices with its LDAC technology.

is this sound bar Dolby atmos enabled?

Nope... The only great feature missing though... BUT Atmos at this point is like 3D movies... you only see it once in a while and only audio nerds will notice the difference. I'd skip ATMOS receivers for the time being to see if the trend grows. Also if you have vaulted ceilings or stucco you might have less of bounce effect from the up firing speakers of the ATMOS soundbars. A full 7 speaker array for ATMOS is really the only way to go otherwise you're kind of wasting your time and money. Also I haven't seen a ATMOS soundbar that also does DTS-HD or any of the other DTS formats which in my opinion is a better sounding experience.

Introducing a brand-new way to stay connected. Samsung Galaxy Gear keeps you updated with glance notifications, so you can keep up with calls, texts and emails.

Is the smart watch compatible with galaxy S2 lte?

I have a year left on my contact so I would like to know all phones it is compatible with?! I have the galaxy S2 lte, will the watch work????
All phone that use Bluetooth LE or Bluetooth 4.0 will work. As long as your S2 is updated past Gingerbread (If you've downloaded an update to your phone in the last year or 2 you're fine) your phone is supported.
