'The Mummy' is a great piece of entertainment. The story isn't new, but it is solid and Brendan Fraser is good as a lead. I was hesitant to buy this because Universal Blu-Rays are a little spotty, they tend to lack finer detail. This is an exception, it looks GREAT; Egypt just looks so good on 1080p. For $13 you just cannot say no.
What's great about it: It's the best Blu-Ray from Universal that I've watched.
This is one of the movies that justifies buying High Def anything. The quality of the Blu-Ray is so so so good. Cate Blanchett it great in this Movie, and it's my favorite movie with Brad Pitt since Se7en [he's good in Inglorious B******s too]. The movie is a little long, but not without reason it conveys a good message. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is similar in tone to Forrest Gump, they both have strong emotional ups and downs. The image quality will blow you away from the moment the Paramount and Warner Bros. logos are shown as buttons until the ending credits roll.
I do love this movie, which is why i bought it on DVD and then replaced the DVD with a Blu-Ray. It was disappointing though. The quality of the DVD was as good as the Blu-Ray. I double checked with my friends to make sure and they did agree. I ended up selling the Blu-Ray on eBay and kept the DVD. The movie is really great though, RomCom at its best. If you must get the Blu-Ray I can't stop you, but Image quality is DVD-like you can't see much detail in their faces, the Hawaiian scenery or anything else really.
This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies, it's a classic. It does seem corny at times, but it is a parody of science fiction [so its supposed to be]. The quality of the Blu-Ray is of the best I own. Everything from their uniforms to the desert battlefields show an excruciating amount of detail. If you have seen this movie on DVD, buy the Blu-Ray. If you like sci-fi I am quite sure you will enjoy the story, action, and acting.
Overall the quality of the picture is good, but the Digital Noise Reduction is VERY obvious on scenes with lots of CG [any cityscape and most landscapes. It really emphasizes the CG]. However, any shots with close-ups or lots or actors look great. You can see everything from the dirt on their face to the stitching on their clothes. If you have the DVD rent the Blu-Ray before buying it. If not, you wont regret it.
