Dolph Lundgren is He-Man in this live-action version of Masters of the Universe. The disc contains a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track by director Gary Goddard, a theatrical trailer, and an explanation of the different characters who inhabit the fantasy world created in the film. Whatever one thinks of the film itself, this is a very strong DVD with much to offer a fan of the film.

So Bad It's Good

Based off the popular children's cartoon of the same name, 'Masters of the Universe' is an incredibly poor film, but it's one of those movies that is so bad you can't help but love it. After all, what's not to love about a film where the heroes, who are time-crunched in their quest to save the universe from complete destruction, actually spend 5 minutes of screen time stealing and eating a bucket of fried chicken from a local fast food restaurant. An absolute riot of a film, full of bad acting led beautifully by, surprise surprise...Dolph Lundgren.
While not quite as powerful as the first season, this second season of 'Highway to Heaven' still found the majority of episodes strong and moving enough to earn it a 5-star rating.
I loved 'Amazing Stories' and was always disappointed when the show was cancelled after only two seasons. To the best of my understanding, the reason for cancellation was not that the show was low on ratings, but more so because the A-list actors the show employed, coupled with special effects that rivaled many feature-length motion pictures of the time, simply cost too much money to produce for televsion. Nonetheless, a great show, and for some reason the second season is as of yet nowhere to be found on dvd.
This DVD of the director's cut of Richard Donner's Lethal Weapon adds seven minutes of never-before-seen footage into the body of the film. The picture comes courtesy of a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1, while a French soundtrack is mixed in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French soundtracks can be accessed. Though the only extra feature is a theatrical trailer, fans of this film will savor the new material. This disc is also available in a box set containing director's cuts of the first three Lethal Weapon films.

This is a bad director's cut to a film that wasn't really that great to begin with. If you have to have this movie, stick with the original theatrical version.
Richard Donner's memorable buddy-cop flick Lethal Weapon comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include production notes and a theatrical trailer. This disc is ideal for people who want the film that was seen in theaters, though a director's cut DVD has been released for avid fans.

One of very few Blue-Ray titles that really excels, as the format should, in comparison to its standard dvd counterpart. Beautiful image quality and loads of bonus features make it worth every penny to a die-hard fan. For those who like the movie, but aren't crazy about it, I would recommend the standard dvd to save money or wait until the price on this one drops.
Having absolutely no new bonus features, and a transfer that is hardly worthy of being called hi-def, fans of this film should save themselves $10 and just buy the standard special edition dvd.

True fans of 'Stargate' will want to bypass this Blue-Ray disc and stick with the much better 2-disc special edition dvd that came out several years ago, had both the theatrical and director's cuts of the film, as well as several bonus features oddly not seen here on this new so-called 'next generation' release.

A fan of the original theatrical version, I was quite frustrated when Ridley Scott started feeling it was necessary to release several different cuts of the film, starting back in the early 1990's. Overbudget and indecisive, as has often been the case for many of his projects, Scott apparently lost control over the film at a certain point. Therefore, 'Blade Runner' is a visually beautiful film that is just a mess to make any sense of, even more so now that it has 5 different versions. Why anyone would spend big bucks on this dvd set is beyond me.
This Blue Ray version of 'Edward Scissorhands' does present a very nice visual display, one that is noticeably better than the standard-def dvd releases of the film. However, certain bonus features that were evident on previous dvd releases of the film are evidently missing. Therefore, whether or not to buy this item is up in the air.
