I liked 'Supergirl' as a kid, mainly because I thought Helen Slater was attractive. This long anticipated extended dvd release, complete with director's commentary, is sure to please fans of the film.
A handful of kids are accidentally sent into orbit in this comedy drama, which has been given a simple presentation for its release on DVD. SpaceCamp has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Surround; the dialogue is in English, with optional subtitles in English, Spanish, and French. No bonus materials have been included for this release.

Kids Should Enjoy It

'Space Camp' is another one of those movies I really enjoyed as a child, but now, as an adult, I don't as much. I guess that's why this film targeted a younger audience. Enhanced widescreen.

I found very little interesting about this Ridley Scott movie, in which a couple of police officers (Andy Garcia and Michael Douglas) try to bust a Japanese mobster involved in international drug dealing. Skip it.
Brett Leonard's cyberspace themed thriller Virtuosity comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has also been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtracks are closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include the trailer. This is a fine release from Paramount that boasts excellent sound and picture quality.

I just didn't understand this movie starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, but maybe I wasn't supposed to. For whatever it's worth, I'd say don't bother.
George Miller's adventure-drama The Aviator comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and is preferable in every way to the standard full-frame image. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. Subtitles are accessible in all three of those languages as well. Supplemental materials are limited to the original theatrical trailer. MGM/UA has done a solid job with this film, especially when one considers the inexpensive list price.

This movie about a pilot surviving in the wilderness after his plane crashes, along with his passenger, is ok at best. Nothing special here, but at least the dvd offers both widescreen and full-screen viewing options.

This most recent 'Batman' film is bad in almost every way possible other than special effects. The dvd presentation is excellent, as are the bonus features, but the film itself isn't even worth the time of watching, let alone your hard earned money

Robert Zemeckis' Cast Away comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both DTS ES Surround and DD-EX Surround, while French and Spanish soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Zemeckis and members of his crew. This is a fine disc for what it is, but the film is available on a different release with the same extras and a widescreen transfer. That disc if preferable to this one.

this full-screen dvd version alters the original theatrical aspect ratio of the movie from 1.85:1 to 1.33:1, presenting a picture that is different from what the director intended you to see.

'Chicago' is not a good title for this waste of time movie. 'Awful Musical' might have been a little more proper I think. I'd say 'skip it'. Still, good dvd presentation here for those who can stand watching this abomination.
