Not bad, a bit scary

Some people didn't like this movie. I was not one of those people. I watched the movie and found it to be very interesting. Some type of phenomenon is happening in major cities where people start acting strangly and then commit suicide. Were we come in is the human side with Elliot (Mark Walberg) asnd Alma (Zooey Deschanel) who are a wife and husband having some peoblems. They hear on the news about this thing happening and decide to leave the city with their friend Julian (John Leguizamo) and his daughter as the problem is only happening in cities. They soon discover it is happening in less adn less populated areas. I wont say anymore about the plot. The movie seems to have this feeling of impending doom and hopelessness. The scenes where people die are appropriately uncomfortable and I think M. Night Shymalan does a good job of making you feel some of the deaths. Of course in the end he throws in hope which seems to be a theme in many of his movies. The acting of the two main characters was great and there are these two random teen agers they run into who I thought were hilarious. I likeed the movie.
What's great about it: Great cast, interesting story
What's not so great: Some weakness in plot

Columbia/TriStar's two-disc special edition of Guy Ritchie's marvelous caper film Snatch is an extras-packed digital romp and an appropriate release for a film that wallows so freely in digital excess and charm. Disc one includes the U.K. version, which includes about three extra minutes of footage, available both in pan-and-scan or in its original widescreen theatrical ratio of 1.85:1. The picture is outstanding and looks sharp throughout, with no evidence of any digital artifacts. The color is intentionally desaturated, giving the film a gritty, '70s kind of feel. Though the disc does include the pan-and-scan option, the widescreen option is definitely preferable. The film has been given both an English 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack and a two-channel Dolby Surround option. Both tracks are great, with channel separations and a heavy bottom end that never diminishes the dialogue scenes, though the two-channel option does tend to sound a bit bolder at times. A French-language track is also available. The film also has multiple subtitle options, the best being the translations of Brad Pitt's "pikey" dialogue into English. At one point only a question mark appears during one of Pitt's unintelligible ramblings. Great stuff and very funny. Disc one also contains a "Stealing Stones" option that allows viewers to watch the film with its deleted scenes reintegrated. A diamond icon will occasionally appear in the upper right-hand corner where the deleted scene should go. By clicking the "Enter" button on their remote controls, viewers will then be allowed to view the scene. This option, though interesting, is not recommended since the scenes have been taken from the editor's workprint and the overall picture and sound are very shabby. The same scenes are available separately on disc two. Disc one also contains a commentary track with director Ritchie and producer Matthew Vaughn. The track is fun and relatively informative, though the two occasionally need to be prodded to move things along and/or keep talking! Very loose and informal, so in a way it has its moments. Disc two contains a 24-minute "making of" featurette, which is very enjoyable; storyboard comparisons (including a valuable appraisal of the masterful climactic boxing scene); the previously mentioned deleted scenes (nothing too magnificent); a montage photo gallery; TV spots and theatrical trailers, including trailers for other Columbia/TriStar releases; and more. There are also a few "Easter eggs" to be found on disc two. By highlighting the arrow key, then pressing the upper arrow key on your remote, a yellow exclamation mark will appear in the upper right-hand corner. Press "Enter" and you will be asked if you are easily offended. Whether you press "yes" or "no," you will be witness to a 90-second montage of some of the best profanity in films today. To get to the other Easter eggs, go to the second screen in the extras menu, highlight the arrow again, press the upper arrow key on your remote, and the number "1" should then appear. Press "Enter" on your remote and you will see a 70-second montage of some of the best quotes from the film. Other Easter eggs await you in the filmography section of the disc.

If you've seen lock stock and two smoking barrels and liked it then you love this one. Two guys get involved in illegal fighting and end up in trouble. While this is going on there is a diamond robbery and everyone is after that diamond. The movie is filled with great memorable characters, high caliber actors and an awesome plot.
What's great about it: Great plot, funny parts, some action
What's not so great: Parkys

Decent Movie

This was a pretty good movie about this kid from LA who is a super good soccer player. A guy from New Castle sees him play and tells him he should go to England and try out for the squad. His father is against it but he goes anyway and then goes thru alot of problems to finally achieve his goal of making the squad. It reminded me of Rudy, but with a guy who has athletic talent and a pretty love interest. All in all, it was a nice feel good movie.
What's great about it: About Soccer
What's not so great: You sometimes wonder about the guys luck

The story is about a guy who abandons his pregnant fiance on the alter and years later realizes what a loser he's been and wants her back once she finds a new guy. Her boyfriend is a marathon runner so he enters a marthon to show he' not a huge loser. Then the crazy stuff starts. If you're looking for a light comedy this is ok.
What's great about it: There were some really funny parts
What's not so great: There were not so funny parts

This movie is about an assassin that gets caught up in something bad and ends up being poisoned with something where he needs to keep his heart rate up in order to live. The problem is that the movie was so far fetched that it ended up being sort of lame. There were good parts and some moments that were funny but all in all this movie was a dud.
What's great about it: Some interesting action scenes
What's not so great: Not a great plot, seemed intentionally bad

I watched this with my brother this weekend 10/04/2008. I did not see it in the theaters and had decided to reserve my opinion until I saw it. I was pleased with all the extras and watched these while waiting fro my brother to come over. I became more excited as I watched the extras because the picture was so beautiful. Once my bother got over it was on!
This movie is what I envision HD format was made for. The opening scene was really cool and hooks you in until the end. Rorert Downy Jr. acted great in this movie and I was impressed with the balance of comedy and action. In many movies the comical parts seem forced but they seemed natural. The fight scenes were the kind you want to go back any see again. This is a great addition to my new BluRay library.
What's great about it: Great Action, Beatiful on BluRay, RDJr. was hilarious
What's not so great: No complaints

Cake is one of those group that sounds strange when you first hear them but then they grow on you. The opening track is Frank Sinatra and it is awesome. It's hard to describe just how good this album is. Get it and see.

The are many people who don't liek Tom Cruise. I myself am indifferent. I am not; however, indifferent about this movie. It is the best movie invloving samurai made since Kurosawa stopped making them. Teh Cinamatography is beautiful and the fight sceens are awe inspiring. BluRay just makes it more beautiful and vivid. Wonderful movie.
What's great about it: Awesome sword fights

I first saw this movie in the theator and it was good, I saw it later on DVD then saw it on Blu Ray and the Blu Ray version looked the best. Now on to what I thought about the movie. I'll point out now, that it is subtitiled. This doesn't bother me but I know it does bother some people. The story is about the Mayan dying civilization and a man and his family who fall victim to a raiding party. the raiding party captures people to sacrifice to make the gods happy so the People of the Sun will stop suffering. Unfortunately for Jaguars Paw, the main character, his village is going to have to be those people that bleed for the gods. To top everything off his wife and kid were left in danger and he knows he has to escape and save them. The reason I liked this movie so much is that the hero of the story is a regular guy, he doesn't bust out in a karate fight with the bad guys, he gets hurt sometimes and he doesn't always outsmart the villians. All in all this was a good movie. Some people will say some of the stuff was far fetched but so is every other movie, I was entertained and I think you would be to.
What's great about it: The Cinematography was beautiful, cool story
What's not so great: Subtitles

Ran, one of director Akira Kurosawa's finest achievements, comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The Japanese soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a trailer, filmographies, and production credits. This is a solid release from Wellspring, but everything about it could have been better. Kurosawa enthusiasts may hope for a better release from Criterion, but until that time will have to make do with this Wellspring edition.

Samurai Epic
on September 29, 2008

Ran is an epic samurai adaption of King Lear. The movie is about an old warlord who retires and splits his lands between his sons. His youngest son does not agree because he knows his brothers but dad banishes him for being disrespectful. Of course the son was right and eventually there is a civil war. The battles are done on an epic scale and I mean epic. When first seeing this you find out that samurai used guns. This ends up being the only disapointment because you are expecting to see some cool martial arts sword fights. After you get over your asumptions that guns were not used the movie is very enjoyable.
What's great about it: Great Plot, Sweeping Cinema
What's not so great: Guns?
