Steven Spielberg's ambitious screen adaptation of J.G. Ballard's novel about a young boy who finds himself in a Japanese prison camp during WWII gets an appropriately glossy treatment on DVD. The film has been given a letterboxed transfer of 1.85:1 aspect ratio (the transfer has also been enhanced for widescreen monitors), and viewers have a choice of the original soundtrack in Dolby Digital Stereo or a new mix in Dolby Digital 5.1 (there's also an alternate French-language soundtrack in Dolby Digital Stereo). The film has been subtitled in no fewer than eight languages -- English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai -- and the film's original theatrical trailer has been included, as well as a bonus behind-the-scenes documentary, "The China Odyssey: Empire of the Sun, A Film by Steven Spielberg."

La Bamba, Luis Valdez's biopic of rock pioneer Ritchie Valens, comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a Spanish soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Thai subtitles are accessible. Supplemental features include a biography of the cast and filmmakers and a theatrical trailer. The sound on the disc captures the rock & roll songs beautifully, making this disc interesting viewing for any fan of rock films.

The cast does a good job but this just isn't my type of movie.

Hudson Hawk was an infamous box-office turkey, but as is always the case with films like that, it has developed a small (very small in this case) but fervent cult. They will appreciate this disc that offers a pair of transfers. The widescreen transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by director Michael Lehmann and trailers.

Tom Mankiewicz directs funny man John Candy in Delirious, which comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable in every way to the standard full-frame image. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, and a Spanish soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. Subtitles are available in all three of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include the original theatrical trailer. MGM/UA has done a solid job with this film, especially when one considers the inexpensive list price.

No matter what John Candy does I think it's funny but this wasn't his best.

A vice-ridden louse must throw his bad habits to the wind in MGM/UA 's release of the classic Rodney Dangerfield comedy Easy Money. Viewable in either 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen or 1.33:1 full frame, this release also offers a selection of closed-captioned English Dolby Digital Mono or Spanish Dolby Digital Mono soundtracks with optional Spanish and French subtitles. Extra features include a theatrical trailer.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Belushi team up to fight crime behind the Iron Curtain in this Cold War-era crime drama, which gets a polished release on DVD. Red Heat has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The audio has been mastered in two formats, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround; the dialogue is in English with optional subtitles in English and Spanish. Bonus materials include the movie's original theatrical trailer, four television spots, and four documentary shorts on various aspects of the film's production.

Ron Shelton baseball comedy Bull Durham gets the deluxe treatment on this DVD release from MGM/UA. The disc contains both a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and a lesser full-frame image. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while French and Spanish soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround, and a Portuguese soundtrack is available in Dolby Digital Mono. Subtitles are accessible in all four of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include a pair of commentary tracks. Director Shelton's track is full of wonderful stories about the film and his days as a minor league baseball player. He shares his love of the game and it is infectious. The second commentary, recorded by male leads Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins is less insightful. For the most part, they compliment the film and each other. Costner relates a story about Mickey Mantle's reaction to the film that puts it into a new perspective. Robbins comes across as forever thankful to Shelton for casting him in this, Robbins' breakout part. A making-of documentary, a profile of Kevin Costner, a photo gallery, and trailers round out this fabulous package from MGM/UA.

IS IT WORTH PAYING SOMEONE TO CALABRATE OR TWEEK THE SETTINGS ON MY SAMSUNG 52A650 LCD

Yes!! It is very much worth it. They make your tv look the very best that it can in your setting. I would recommend anyone doing this with a tv 42" or larger.
