A Hit, Miss, or Huh?
on June 26, 2008
Posted by: fiddler
My title says it all... after watching it you'll either love it (for perhaps it leaves a warm feeling), strongly dislike it, or be totally dumbfounded by the strangeness and think "huh? that's it? I don't get it."
Me? I thought "huh?" all throughout the movie. The plot is something like I have never heard of before... three brothers who went their different paths after their father died reunite in India in a quest to be reunited with their mother, who stepped out on the family and became a nun in India.
The relationship between the three brothers is quite strange, but genuine. Each brother has a distinct character that follows him around and never ceases to stop... There is a lot of silence in the movie, and I would definitely link that to all the SYMBOLISM in the movie.
SYMBOLISM is the backbone of the story. It may justify some of the random all-of-a-sudden scenes. Now, by attempting to explain what makes this movie weird, I would just confuse you more.
This is why I would recommend someone else this movie... If you like it, you really will love it... so why not give it a chance?
If you are in the right mood, it may be well worth the watch.
What's great about it: comical scenes quite funny, very unique, excellent scenery, interesting brother relationships
What's not so great: repetitive, very strange, endless plot, overly symbollic

Great Gift addition for a Girl!
on June 25, 2008

Disney and its Princesses... each with their own unique but inspiring stories-- what more could a girl want?
This CD is a good addition to a gift for a girl of any age, because most American kids grow up alongside Disney and connect with each princess especially through song.
Some of the tracks are very well-known and very famed, even to today. (ex: A Whole New World, Part of Your World) and others are a little less hyped but memorable, nonetheless (ex: Colors of the Wind)
Elementary School girls to college girls, they all would enjoy this CD. Today, it's all about the iPod, so why not add these 14 additions to their list?
We all know the newer trend is to buy Disney songs remade/re-sung by Disney Channel stars in their own styles... but the original tracks from the original movies carry original memories that can't be sold out!
What's great about it: contains some of the most loved Disney songs, most girls would love it, good song selection
What's not so great: exclusive to only Disney princesses, so no memorable non-princess heroine songs added

Underrated!
on June 24, 2008
Posted by: fiddler
Underrated and under-appreciated! It's one of those feel-good movies that ACTUALLY makes you feel good. Critics have been a bit neutral or negative towards this movie, however, the average person would really enjoy it. The movie was not publicized much and so most do not know about it, but that does not mean it's not good!
What is it about?
A good-looking young blind man, Danny, ventures off in the real world and desires more than anything else to be treated as a normal person... There are two main story lines going on in the protagonists' view. One... He is intimidated by the fact that he is in his early 20s but still is a virgin, while his goof ball brother, a limo driver, is highly promiscuous. Like any other young man, he yearns to love and be loved. As a result his brother tries setting him up with all kinds of women, none of whom seem to be suitable for Danny. But, when he least expects it, love finds him. He falls for an East Indian nurse at the doctor's office... problem is, she is already arranged to marry someone else.
The second plot: Danny feels he can never be treated as normal so long as he is still blind, so he undergoes a project... a project that is an experiment still in its infancy, which may give him partial vision.
The first half of the movie is more a comedy, whereas the second half is more a drama. A dramatic comedy describes it perfectly.
Enjoy this type of movie especially when you are in a bad mood! Chris Pine is spectacular!
What's great about it: feel-good movie, lead role brothers-great acting, interesting plot
What's not so great: genre misleading-- it's equally a comedy AND drama, very stereotypical, can be predictable

Mario- Never a Letdown!
on June 23, 2008

I have always relied on Mario games to be guaranteed entertainment and fun times, and this game is no different. Lots of fun! Especially great for travel (on the road, airplanes, trains, at hotels, etc).
It is a single or multi-player game and with many original levels carried on, but also new additions! The dual screen allows for the player to watch where she is driving and her own items on one screen and see what items the other players have, as well as who is in what place on the other screen.
As a person plays through the Grand prix successfully and achieves a high ranked place, he gets a grade on his performance... the highest being a star. By getting stars, the player can unlock new features to the game including new characters and levels!
Exciting, right?
Since it is on the Nintendo DS, a great feature is that if one person has the Mario Kart game, his/her friends can play along... and unlike other game systems, no one can look at each other's screen and "cheat." It gets highly competitive, but confusing (sometimes you may forget which characters the other friends are).
Overall, I definitely think this game is a safe bet to buy for kids of all ages... you can be sure they'll love it, because who can't resist a Mario game?
What's great about it: new courses, other-than-racing games added, good graphics, interactive, Wi-fi allows for more competition
What's not so great: dual-screen can get to be confusing, 150cc difficult/frustrating but doable, some of new levels not as creative

REAL Family Fun
on June 21, 2008

Usually Disney Channel Original movies are known to be a bit banal and stale with the predictable and idealistic plots, not-so-Hollywood borderline decent acting, but movies like this seem to pull it off successfully and still be very, very entertaining!
If you loved the "Even Stevens" series, you'll love the movie! Everything crazy happens to the Stevens family. This family provides glorious family entertainment because of the humorous but solid relationships established between the members of the family and close friends (oh, and Beans, the annoying child neighbor)
Upon glance, this may seem like just another Disney channel movie made just to satisfy kids (and not intended for overly critical adults)... the Stevens family enters the summer just happening to win a vacation to an island they've never heard of, they happen to accept without reviewing the terms, they happen to have many misfortunes on the island based purely on coincidences, and there's a big twist that makes you wonder "how did THAT happen?"...BUT, the acting of the actors truly enhances the plot into one hilarious film for people of all ages to enjoy!
The Ren-Louis crazy sibling rivalry, the parents squabbling over the little things one minute but all lovey-dovey the next, Donny's focus on aesthetics over brains, Beans' annoying presence everywhere, ...it's ALL there! And a person never having watched an "Even Stevens" episode can dive into the movie and feel like he's known the Stevens family forever!
The Stevens family is everyone's neighbor... come enjoy their film with them on the beautiful island of Mandalino!
What's great about it: based on hit TV series "Even Stevens," for the family, funny, amusing, great acting
What's not so great: coincidental humor (con for some), special features not spectacular, okay plot
I would recommend this to a friend!
