Little known great movie
on July 17, 2008
Posted by: BCRaven05
This is not a very popular movie, but it is well worth the money to purchase or rent. It is based on a true story, and an incredible true story at that. Funny thing is... towards the end of the movie, I thought it was kind of unrealistic, but when it ended I was in shock and loved it even more. I won't say more than that, but if you watch it you may have the same reaction (unless you know the story, which I did not). This is a fantastic movie and I definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of these type of movies.
What's great about it: Incredible story, great drama
What's not so great: none

Tom Shadyac re-teams with Jim Carrey for the comedy Bruce Almighty. The initial DVD release of the film offers a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a making-of featurette and over a dozen deleted scenes. This is a fine release from Universal Studios.

Funny movie
on July 14, 2008

This is a very good comedy, with minimal physical humor (which I like). Sometimes, however, Jim Carey has a tendency to over-act a little, but that is nothing new when it comes to his comedys. The special features are fine, nothing too extravegant though. This movie ends with a good message, without being too preachy. I recommend this to anyone who wants a good laugh.
What's great about it: Good message and good humor
What's not so great: Some over-acting

Good sub movie

This is a very good movie featuring two great actors. The drama is very intense, and catches you at the edge of your seat. This is a classic movie that should be seen... much better than U-571 and right up there with the Hunt for Red October.

Batman is Back!
on July 9, 2008
Posted by: BCRaven05
There have been a lot of super hero movies recently, so it can be hard to stand out amongst the crowd. This movie certainly does that, however. The Batman series has gone back to its roots, becoming more realistic and not concentrating on too many gadgets that are "over the top". This is a fantastic action movie, and lends itself a new twist on the Batman series. Sit back and be entertained!
What's great about it: Storyline, acting, realism

Best Trilogy Ever
on July 8, 2008
Posted by: BCRaven05
This has to be the best trilogy ever. The success of this trilogy started the fad of making trilogies. These movies are fantastic for all ages, and contain something for everyone. This is what movie making is all about, sitting back and being entertained by a fantastic story of fantasy and wonder. The action is great, the musical soundtrack is great, the combination is incredible! I highly recommend this trilogy to all... fans or not.
What's great about it: Action, music, special effects (for their time)

Best of new trilogy

This is definitely the best of the last three Star Wars movies. The action and music really keep you on the edge of your seat, wanting to see more. If you've seen any of the Star Wars movies, you need to see this one as well, b/c it finally brings everything together.

The two-disc special edition of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was a long-awaited item, but should keep both serious and casual Star Wars fans happy for a while, thanks to a slightly expanded version of the film and a plethora of extras. Disc one contains the film, transferred from a new print (as made clear by producer Rick McCallum some time ago). The transfer is anamorphic, at an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and is quite simply gorgeous to look at. The image is crisp and clean throughout, with vivid and subtle colors both, and deep, detailed blacks. There is no sign of edge enhancement and no indication of compression artifacts. The original soundtrack was recorded in Dolby Digital Surround 6.1 EX, but has been downmixed to 5.1 EX for this release. Again, the soundtrack is flawless, with excellent surround effects, excellent separation, and beautiful mixing work. The directional effects alone are worth hearing. The standard Dolby Surround downmix sounds quite good, though it does lose the directional definition of the 5.1 EX mix. The disc also includes a Spanish Surround mix which deserves notice for a combination of an excellent voice cast and perfect matching. Disc one also includes an audio commentary by George Lucas and Rick McCallum, along with other crew members. This commentary is highly entertaining, informative, and helped tremendously by supertitles above the image that identify the current speaker. Disc two is simply packed. There are seven deleted scenes to start with, completed especially for this DVD release. Some are hardly worth looking at, but the expanded pod race is quite an eye-opener. The scenes can be viewed separately, or as part of a documentary. Other documentary pieces include "The Beginning," which is a new one-hour documentary, the 12 web documentaries originally carried on www.starwars.com, and five featurettes covering aspects of the production. Another section includes the teaser and theatrical trailers, TV spots (including the "Tone Poems" spots), and the "Duel of the Fates" video. There is also a section of animatics, and a further section of stills and graphic images. A featurette about the making of the Starfighter game completes the disc. All told, disc two alone takes hours to work through. Additional content is available through the www.starwars.com DVD section, which is accessible via the Interactual player/browser utility included on the disc. The feature has 50 chapter stops. Menus and transitions are animated, with some cute and funny moments to be found. Both discs are single-sided, dual-layered, and come in a slimline dual disc case.

Good beginning movie
on July 2, 2008

This movie is good, however definitely not the best of the Star Wars series. Jar Jar Binks gets annoying, but you get used to it throughout. It ends with a bang, with one of the best fight scenes in the Star Wars series and in movie history. This is made possible with the fantastic musical score that accompanies this movie. Overall, good movie, not the best... must have for Star Wars fans and a good watch for others.
What's great about it: Extras, sound, fight scenes
What's not so great: jar jar binks

Wackiness ensues in the super comedy Super Troopers. Fox's work on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer is excellent save for a small amount of edge enhancement in the image. Overall, the colors, fleshtones, and black levels are all very solid and clear. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and French, as well as Dolby 2.0 Surround in Spanish. While the film doesn't utilize a vast array of directional effects (except in a few key scenes), the bulk of this 5.1 mix if free of any excessive hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc are English, French, and Spanish subtitles. The extra features on Super Troopers are bountiful, starting with two commentary tracks: the first by director/actor Jay Chandrasekhar and actor Erik Stolhanske and a second by actors Kevin Heffernan, Paul Soter, and Steve Lemme. Both commentaries are filled with many humorous stories, anecdotes, and thoughts about the film's production and history. A series of outtakes and deleted scenes are broken up unto four different sections and should please fans looking for more gags and jokes in the vein of the film. Finally, there is a very fluffy making-of featurette, a "Road Trip Newswrap" that follows the comedy troupe on the road, and theatrical trailers for the film.

The movie is great, and seems to get better every time you watch it. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a laugh! Could use a few more extra features, but than again it's a comedy, how much do you really need!?
What's great about it: Good comedy
What's not so great: Not a ton of extra features

Brace yourself for a new set of tricks, tracks and ways to race. The included Wii Wheel transforms your Wii Remote into a steering wheel that feels great in your hands, while the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller supply a classic control style for veterans of this racing series. Either way, you'll be able to perform impressive speed-boosting tricks, such as jumps, flips and wheelies. You can zip through brand-new tracks and arenas, and also tour classic courses from Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario Kart: Double Dash and Mario Kart DS. There are even options for trying all-new motorbikes that have their own special tricks and techniques. The action gets fast, furious and funny when you race in Mario Kart Wii.

Great, Entertaining, Fun Game!
on June 18, 2008

This is an excellent game for the wii! It is extremely fun to play and can keep both adults and kids alike entertained for hours. The only negative I can see about this game is that it takes some time to acquire all characters, and you have to do the time trials to unlock some (which is not as fun as playing opponents). I find myself online all of the time with people around the world playing this game, and it is so much fun! I highly recommend to all wii owners... if you have a wii, this is a must own game.
What's great about it: gameplay, online play
What's not so great: Takes a while to unlock characters
