He is on the hunt for the planet's Legendary Treasures — with the help of his three enthusiastic nephews, of course. Together, the ducks embark on an adventure across the globe, fighting off enemies, gathering coins and wealth and exploring new lands that no duck has seen before.Join Scrooge McDuck and his three nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie as they travel across the world and beyond in search of the five Legendary Treasures. Go where no duck has gone before in a quest that will have you swinging your cane, learning to pogo, and fending off enemies, such as the Beagle Boys and Magica DeSpell. Explore a weird spacecraft and battle aliens, metal-clad cyber-ducks and more. Visit the museum to track your achievements, progress and status, and cash in your coins and accumulate wealth in Scrooge's Money Bin. Old school platformer
on January 19, 2015
Posted by: phoenixlau
This is a remake of the old NES platformer Ducktales, updated for modern day graphics. The transition is quite faithful: the music, enemies, level design, and gameplay are all recognizable when comparing the two games. Jumping on enemies with your pogo stick is quite fun.
The most important thing to know about this game, however, is that it is BRUTALLY HARD even on normal mode. Don't be afraid to play on easy mode, it incorporates modern day checkpoints.

Rocking electronic
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
Incredible follow up to Glitch Mob's debut album Drink The Sea. Whereas Drink The Sea (which I also liked very much) was more chilled out and slower tempo, Love Death Immortality pumps up the intensity with some truly rocking joints.
A lot of reviewers have mentioned the added dubstep influences on this album, but in addition there are all sorts of electronic elements like electro, house, glitch-hop, synth, and so forth fused together seamlessly in a very distinctive Glitch Mob sound. Even more so than Drink The Sea, Love Death Immortality is a coherent album that you can play from beginning to end and there won't be a single minute that feels out of place or like it's a weak link. I've had this CD in my car nonstop for about a month now.
Favorite tracks: Skullclub, Fly By Night Only, Carry The Sun

What's great about it: Every song is great, no filler
What's not so great: Only 10 songs

What would you sacrifice to stay on the cutting edge of technology? A month's pay? A lifetime's savings? Your digital privacy? What about your very identity? Welcome to Neo-Paris. The year is 2084. Big business has yielded to a new global force — big surveillance. Hungry for a new market, the world's innovators have pioneered a yet-untapped resource — our memories. Our darkest secrets, most intimate moments, the very fibers of our core are now cold commodities. They're digitized, bought, sold and traded at the whim of society's overarching authorities. But like any other product, they can also be stolen. Henceforth arose the memory hunters. These master mind hackers raid, snatch and even alter the memories of unsuspecting souls, rippling the tides of fate in unforeseen ways. But what happens when the mind of the most-wanted memory hunter is wiped? Could she steal back the pieces of her shattered past — or will she forever forget?Your name is Nilin — though you've forgotten that by now. Once a great thief of memories, you've been robbed of those of your own — at the hands of the omnipotent authorities who govern the mental realm. You've managed to escape from your jail cell, but now live in the prison of your clouded mind. Now, with only one last friend on whom to rely, you're faced with a choice — re-learn your past skills and steal back the fragments of your identity, or fall prey to the creators of a dangerous surveillance state. An original, all-too-believable vision of the future, Remember Me immerses you in a Paris transformed by memory digitization and authoritarian rule. As Nilin, you'll master the power to break into people's minds and recover clues to your own past. You become the hunted as powerful foes stalk you throughout the Neo-Paris streets, but rediscover your martial arts training, and you'll become a potent force to be reckoned with. Groundbreaking new gameplay mechanics including the Memory Remix, which gives you the unprecedented abilities to impact the future in real time. Construct combo attacks from scratch with Combo Lab, which gives you the platform to customize your fighting style, and includes all three unique pressen fighting moves, plus the exclusive dragon punch, spinning kick, and flash kick moves. The ultimate coup awaits your lead — if you can only Remember.

Cool sci-fi adventure through futuristic Neo Paris
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
The location design for all the levels in Remember Me are beautiful and inventive, and the background visuals of Neo Paris remain one of the lasting memories of this game.
Speaking of memories, the memory remix mechanic, where you tweak various details in someone's memory to alter their perception of what happened, is very cool. Reminds me of the movie Inception.
The combo lab is another unique aspect of combat. You can make your own combo chains to focus on different bonuses like extra power, healing, special ability power up, etc. As you progress in the game, you can build your combos into longer and more impressive actions.

What's not so great: Overly convoluted plot

Violin + dubstep
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
Take one part violin, one part dubstep, throw it in a blender, and this album is what comes out. The results are oddly satisfying, and each element complements the other well.
As an album, all the tracks are solid with no real weak links. However, if I have one complaint it is that all the songs are a bit "samey" both in the violin melodies and the dubstep flourishes, although not so much that I felt put off by the album for being too repetitive. I enjoyed this album a lot. The fatigue definitely did kick in when hearing Lindsey Stirling's new 2nd album though, which sounds pretty much exactly the same as this one.

Micromanagement cover shooter
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
The most important thing about The Bureau is that you should not be playing it like a normal third person cover shooter. If you do that, you will have a bad time! Instead, play it like an RTS: you need to be micromanage your teammates, constantly giving them orders to make them do the bulk of the work.
This is partly out of necessity. The AI on your teammates is horrible. They are absolutely useless in a fight without direction, firing ineffectively and constantly wandering out into the open to get shot. You must tell them to take cover, and you must tell them exactly what to shoot at.
The other reason why you should micro, however, is because the special abilities of you and your teammates make it more fun and effective. You will be constantly spamming abilities like throwing up gun turrets, creating hologram diversions to draw fire, healing, calling in airstrikes strikes, etc. If combat hasn't slowed to a crawl as you spend most of your time utilizing the command wheel, you are doing it wrong. There is a very cool feeling of being in the zone that occurs when this happens, especially when the game throws stress at you with charging Mutons forcing you to move locations.

Exacly what you would expect from AVP
on May 15, 2014

It's exactly what you would expect from an AVP game. You get 3 single player campaigns: Alien, Predator, and Marine. None of them are particularly memorable or exciting, but neither are they horrible. It's adequate. If you have some time to kill, there's worse ways to spend your time I guess.

Decent Metroidvania adventure
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
It's a buddy adventure in the Metroidvania style (new abilities grant you access to new places). There is a lot to like here. The world is large and varied, with visually distinctive regions filled with lava, ice, pirate ships, etc.
The combat is adequate, although highly repetitive. The rate of progression which you gain new abilities is much too low, and even then it doesn't really alter combat that much. Your character also moves way too slow through the environment, an annoyance when the game has you backtrack a lot.
The collectible system is both great and horrible. Great because the map tells you exactly what you got and what you missed, so you know which locations to focus on if you are trying get 100%. Horrible because many of the items are only present at night. Since there is no way to manually advance the game clock, if you want to get that collectible, you have no choice but to walk away from your controller for x minutes while the time ticks away. Needlessly irritating.
This review probably seems a bit negative, but I enjoyed my playthrough of Majin. It's not a good game, but it's worth a play if you seem interested in the concept.

Great atmosphere marred by terrible gameplay
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
You get two games in this bundle, the HD versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3. I haven't played the originals on PS2, so I cannot testify to how badly they botched the port in terms of changing textures/dialogue for no reason. They seemed adequate to me, although certainly dated looking.
The atmosphere of Silent Hill is incredible. It feels desolate, terrifying, depressing. You will definitely remember the oppressive grey fog smothering the streets, the creepy nurses lurching at you, the dark, dark storyline. Both games get a lot correct in this department, which rightfully earned the series a place as a cult favorite.
However, the gameplay is terrible viewed from a modern perspective. You constantly fight the controls as your character doesn't do what you want them to do (walking in the wrong direction as the camera angle changes#. Combat is tiresome; it is better to avoid fights altogether, but you get a lot of situations where this is impossible #particularly in SH3 with the dogs). There is waaay too much pointless backtracking through repetitive environments intended solely to make you lost. I highly recommend you use a walkthrough to guide you on your playthrough to minimize gameplay related frustrations.
There are multiple endings for each game, but I couldn't put myself through the torture of playing the actual game again just for the endings. Just look them up on Youtube.

Moral dilemmas
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
It is the zombie apocalypse. You are tasked with taking care a young girl. You will face many difficult choices along the way. Are you willing to steal supplies from other people to ensure the survival of your own group? Are you willing to let other people be killed to protect your own? Whatever choices you make, Walking Dead the video game makes you feel like they matter. It is an incredible thing when weeks or months after you have beaten the game, you still struggle to reconcile whether the choice you made was morally right or not, and debate with other people to see what they did in that situation.
There really isn't much to the gameplay here. It's a stripped down point and click adventure mixed with a time sensitive dialog/choice wheel. It's not much, but it gets the job done. The bigger complaint is that of the illusion of choice. If you play through multiple times, you will realize that a lot of the plot points are set in stone, and no matter what you choose, the game will force you back towards a single path. However, I would say that despite this flaw, the game is immersive enough in making you care about the characters and what happens that, in the moment of your first playthrough (and I recommend you only play through once, selecting what YOU personally would do), it doesn't matter. What you chose matters to YOU, and that's what counts.

Semi-open world Uncharted
on May 15, 2014
Posted by: phoenixlau
This is basically Uncharted set in a semi-open world island. I say semi-open world, in that you can choose to traverse everywhere on the island Metroidvania-style (new/upgraded equipment allows you to reach new places you couldn't before#, but to advance the plot you pretty much have to stick to the script linearly and go where the game needs you to go. The action set pieces are great, with all sorts of explosions and bodies flying to rival the Uncharted series, which Tomb Raider clearly aims to match #perhaps only fitting, seeing as how Uncharted borrowed gameplay elements liberally from the older Tomb Raider games#.
The gameplay is really good. The cover system is one of the best and most intuitive I've ever encountered, the shooting feels good #especially the hunting bow), and performing finishing moves with the QTE prompt always feels extremely satisfying. One minor complaint is that the game does a very poor job of explaining how the quick time event system works. You have to press the button when the shrinking circle goes between the two concentric rings on the screen, not before and not after.
Finally, if you own a PS4, consider getting Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on PS4 instead. It includes all the multiplayer DLC, and has upgraded 1080p graphics.
My Best Buy number: 0563774950
What's great about it: Exciting set pieces, satisfying gameplay
What's not so great: Poor job at teaching you how to do its QTEs, better PS4 Definitive Edition
