Great For Travelers
on January 7, 2022
Posted by: buckbabes
from Glenn Dale, MD
The LG Tone Free FP9 earbuds are a good set of earbuds. They aren't perfect but they introduce some new and unique features like UV nano sanitization and the ability to use the case as a Bluetooth transmitter. Which is great if you are a germaphobe or if your inflight entertainment screen only has an AUX output.
With that said, after a week of using the earbuds, here are some pros and cons I found.
Pro's
- The case is excellent. It charges fast, It's small, light and smooth to the touch. Which makes it easily pocketable. All this and somehow, they still were able to add a Bluetooth transmitter.
- The batteries were good. I was able to use the buds for over a week without having to recharge the case.
- The sound quality is good. Mids. and highs are clear and bright, and the bass is slightly better than average.
- Bluetooth connection is phenomenal. It pairs instantly, and at 45 feet, with two walls between my phone and the buds it still maintains an excellent connection. Also, I received the same great performance when I used the Bluetooth transmit function of the case.
- Call quality was good. Everyone I spoke to told me they couldn't tell I was using earbuds and I could hear them perfectly clear.
- The tone Free App was good. It was easy to use and allowed for full customization of the earbuds.
Cons
- Noise canceling and transparency mode were acceptable at best. On the highest ANC setting the buds still let in a lot of ambient sound. However, the transparency mode was pretty good.
- Within an hour of wearing the buds they become very uncomfortable. Which is confusing to me. They have the same shape and profile as other buds on the market but somehow these were uncomfortable for me. And it wasn't because I was using the wrong sized ear tips. Your results may be different.
- No wireless charging.
In conclusion, these are a good set of buds and I would recommend them for travelers or anyone that wants to add Bluetooth to a non-Bluetooth device.

Great Laser Printer With A Small Footprint.
on December 28, 2021
Posted by: buckbabes
from Glenn Dale, MD
Laser printers are superior to Inkjet printers. It's well known that they are faster, print more pages, don't smudge and don't have print heads that dry out when it's not being used. The only drawback is that they are larger, heavier and cost more. So, I was surprised when I heard HP built a laser printer that solved two of those drawbacks.
The HP M110w black and white laser printer is tiny. Hp says it is the "World's smallest multi-function printer in its class" and I believe them. This printer footprint is slightly smaller than an 8 1/2 x 14 sheet of legal paper and it's 6 inches tall. It can maintain its small form factor because it does not have a traditional paper tray. It has a fold down tray that can hold 150 sheets of paper.
Setup was very simple. All I had to do was pull off all the orange tabs, download the HP123 App, and within a few clicks It was on my network. All in all, I was ready to print in 6 minutes.

As for performance, this printer is quick. For example, it only took 30 seconds to complete a 6-page (one sided) print job. That is measuring from the moment I hit the print button. All text was crisp and legible. Even the fine print on the sheet was perfectly legible.
As for the Toner, it comes preloaded with a HP 141A cartridge. Which normally sells for under $50 and can print up to 950 sheets. If you use more than 950 sheets, you can also sign up for the free 6 months of toner. (It says ink but laser printers don't use ink, so they mean toner)
With that said, if you are looking for a black and white, wireless laser printer with a small footprint and matching price you can't go wrong buying this one.

Comfortable, Good Sound, Not Very Loud
on December 21, 2021
Posted by: buckbabes
from Glenn Dale, MD
I've been using the Logitech G535 headphones for about a week. Overall, I think they are a good set of budget headphones with one real flaw.
The things I like about the headphones is that they are very lightweight and comfortable to wear for a long period of time. The wireless connection is strong and maintains its connection from about 30 feet. And when using it to play games there is virtually no lag. A few other features that set these headphones apart from other budget headphones are the built-in volume slider, flip up microphone and the 33 hours of battery life. The only area where I feel these headphones are lagging is in the sound department. The sound the headphones produce is clear and overall good but it's not great. My biggest complaint would be that they aren't very loud, and they don't block out any ambient noise.
With that said I would still recommend these headphones because they are wireless, have great battery, and have features that have normally been reserved for higher end headphones. However you may want to test these yourself to make sure they are loud enough for you.

Phenomenal Outdoor Performance

The Winegard Extreme 2.0 is a fantastic outdoor wireless access point. It was easy to set up, easy to install and it performed phenomenally. It extended my WIFI network coverage to my entire 29000 sq ft property without any issues. The signal was so strong that I could also connect to the access point from anywhere inside the house too.
I highly recommend this to anyone with a large property or anyone that wants to extend their WIFI to another structure on their property like a guest house / pool house / barn / shed etc.

The Anker PowerCore III Sense 20K is an excellent power bank. When the power bank is fully charged, I was easily able to rapidly charge my Pixel 6 Pro or my iPhone 4 times. Also, the power bank itself is able to quickly charge. During my testing the power bank maintained a strong flow of power and never got warm. I highly recommend it.

Great For Phone Calls, Audiobooks And Podcasts
on November 29, 2021
Posted by: buckbabes
from Glenn Dale, MD
I'll preface this review by saying I used to wear glasses for about 25 years of my life. I had a pair of all day glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses. For me that meant spending about $500+ on a new set of glasses each year. With that being said, I've been using the 2nd Gen, Echo Frames sunglasses for a little over a week. At first, I felt hesitant about the utility of smart glasses but the more I used them, the more I felt I wanted to use them again.
As far as glasses/sunglasses are concerned, the Echo Frames are extremely comfortable. They are very well balanced and weigh less than some of the premium glasses I've owned in the past. The frames feel sturdy, and the hinges have a little springiness to them. Which means they can be hyperextended by about 10 degrees on each side without breaking.
In the box, mine came with a set of non-prescription polarized lenses pre-installed. Polarized lenses provide the best sun protection and visibility when compared to other lenses. They also usually carry a larger price tag than non-polarized lenses. If you don't like polarized Lenses, you are in luck. There are a lot of third-party lens manufacturers that make some interesting replacement lenses. For example, I purchased a set of transition lenses for my frames so I can use them indoors and outside. Also, if you require a prescription for your glasses, you are also able to take them into a local lens crafter and they can be fitted with a prescription.
As far as the smart features are concerned, the Echo Frames are dependent on your phone. The glasses can pair via Bluetooth, play music, and answer calls. But you won't get the full Alexa features without the Alexa app installed on your phone. When used along with the Alexa app you conveniently can operate your smart devices from anywhere you have cell service. And it works really well.
The built-in speakers and microphones are decent. When used to play music the Echo frames won't win any awards for sound quality. But they are good enough for occasional listening. However, the speakers and microphone work best for making phone calls and listening to any spoken commentary. Whether I was receiving or making a phone call the sound quality was amazing. On my end it sounded like the caller was directly in front of me. On the caller's end my voice was crystal clear. There was no distortion or ambient sound bleed.
Overall, if you are considering smart glasses, I think the Echo Frames are a great contender. I would recommend them for anyone that likes to stay on the bleeding edge of tech, has Alexa enabled smart devices, listens to podcasts, or just wants to use them to make calls.

Good Dashcam, Bad Smart Device.
on November 17, 2021
Posted by: buckbabes
from Glenn Dale, MD
I've been testing the Cobra SC400D 4K dual-view smart dashcam for the last week. Overall, I think this is a good dash cam that is held back because of its smart functionality.
Pros:
- The SC400 came with a 64GB SD card and everything I needed for a simplified, wired install of the two cameras. It even came with two extra strips of 3M tape just in case I didn't get the alignment right on the first try.
- It has a 3 inch display. Which is large enough for me to see the video and small enough that it does not block my vision of the road. Also the second camera is small enough that it is virtually invisible.
- Video quality on both cameras is really good. However, it was either incapable of capturing license plates at night or the LED headlights on my truck are too bright for the camera to adjust to.
- It is able to record in 4K and has the option of reducing the quality to 1440P to save memory space.
- The recorded video files had time stamps that were consistent with the time the video was recorded. Which made searching for events very convenient. Also, it captured video in 1 minute increments. Each 4K video was on average 196 MB in size.
Cons:
- The front camera mounts using 3M tape. So, I am not able to use it in another vehicle. It would have been better if it had a suction mount.
- It was only able to capture license plates from about 10 feet during daylight hours. It was not able to capture license plates at night.
- The App is very buggy and unfortunately, it is the only way to access the camera's settings.
- The camera does not have any native smart features. All the smart features are reliant on my phone and the Drive Smart App.
- The drive smart App requires my phone's location to be "Allowed at all times" and will not work when set to "Only while using the app". There is no conceivable need for a dashcam app to know my physical location at all times. This is a huge privacy issue.
Hopefully these issues can be fixed in a software update. Because, like I said in the beginning, this is a good dash cam but it is held back by its smart functionality.

Way better than its predecessors.
on November 10, 2021
Posted by: buckbabes
from Glenn Dale, MD
For the last week I've been testing the New Portal Go. This new version of the Portal is a way better device than the original Portal mini. However, it does have some flaws.
The Portal go is a well designed, battery powered, video chatting device that can also run apps such as Spotify, Zoom and WhatsApp. The interface is simple to use. It only takes a few taps to video call my closest friends. However, there seems to be some input lag. Hopefully this will be fixed in an update. While making a Video call with the portal I have no complaints. All calls were 5 star quality and I was also impressed by the excellent picture and sound quality. As well as, the smart cameras tracking abilities. Another thing I liked was that I am not tied to a wall outlet. With Portal Go, I am able to freely take it from room to room without it dropping off or doing anything weird.
I also tested this with Spotify to stream music. While using Spotify, the speaker sounded excellent. It was loud, the music was clear and the bass was decent. However, that was only when I had the volume set to 60%. Anything over 60% degraded the sound significantly. Also, the App suffered from input lag as well.
Overall, I like the Portal Go way better than its predecessors and think this is a Portal device that is worth buying.

Great For Beginners and Pro's
on November 8, 2021

The Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements package is a great deal and a must have accessory for any professional or aspiring content creator. This is a two pack digital download consisting of two licenses. One for Photoshop and the other for Premier. There is no annual subscription and each license can be used on two different computers. However, the software can only be active on one computer at a time.
Both of these software's have 3 modes of operation. Quick, Guided and expert. Quick provides a streamlined experience with all the basic tools necessary to make simple modifications to your content. Guided mode is more suited for the beginner content creator. It contains a nice library of transitions and tools that walk you through the steps necessary to perform advanced operations. Expert mode is best suited for the Pro's. It has the same familiar interface as previous versions of the software. This is the location where you can find all the functions necessary for complex content creation. it provides you with the ability to make granular modifications to your content without any wizards or limitations.
Overall I love this software and highly recommend it for both beginners and Pros.

Great Camera, App and Price
on November 8, 2021
Posted by: buckbabes
from Glenn Dale, MD
I've been using the EUFY indoor cam mini security camera for the last week. Overall, I think it is a great camera that offers a lot of value for a small price.
A few things I love about the camera is that It's small, light, records clear video, and has a 360 degree field of view with pan and tilt. It also doesn't require a subscription to perform advanced features. Such as, recording 24/7 activity or just snapshots of activity, tracking people that walk by and capturing a picture of their face. Another thing I love is the App. With the EUFY Security app I was able to see and control the camera as well as my other EUFY devices. This is also where I can go to view all the recordings the camera captured. Overall the app was easy to use.
Some things that I didn't like was, the camera feed is not viewable using the google home app. The motor that controls the camera's movement is audible enough that it can be heard in the recorded video. Also, it needs an SD card for local storage which is not mentioned on the box.
With that being said, I still love this camera and think it provides the best bang for your buck. I highly recommend this for anyone that wants a full featured security camera that won't break the bank.

Yes. The Winegard access point connects to the main router the same way a laptop or phone would connect and does not require the main router to be reset.

Can this indoor camera be set up in a window to record outdoor activity? I can’t use a doorbell camera due to a porch pillar blocking the view of the mailbox. I am looking for something to capture both the mailbox and the porch steps.

It can. However the camera moves a lot and you will probably run into issues with window glare.

Does "Wired" mean not battery operated (i.e. wired into wall for power) or no Wi-Fi (i.e. wired directly into router)?

There is no battery, it does use WIFI and the only wire is for power.
