Whirr are known for 2 things, really: 1.) Being at the forefront of the recent nu-gaze movement and 2.) Being super rude to fans online for no apparent reason other than being "edgy." Anyway I wanted to hate this but this record is super cool (regardless of what Pitchfork says) and if you dig that Nothing record or anything by any other spoiled scene kids who just discovered My Bloody Valentine you should get into this because it rips.

If you like music videos where dudes with neck tattoos play Telecasters through Oranges in a field somewhere while screaming lyrics destined for Tumblr, then you already own this. Honestly there's nothing wrong with any of that. This record is cool. You should buy it.

There was a time when In Flames were the successors to At the Gates' mighty Swedish throne. They were the finest purveyors of Gothernburg-core the world had ever seen. They spawned both the Orange County and New England metalcore booms of the early aughts almost singlehandedly. But they haven't released a listenable chunk of music in almost a decade. This record, like the last one and the one before that, is Korny in the worst way. Not a memorable riff or a single hook in sight. Please guys, hang it up.
When scene stalwarts Underoath went their separate ways a few years back, there were varying degrees of anticipation about frontman Spencer Chamberlain's next step. That next step turned out to be Sleepwave, and anyone who was on the fence needs to jump over to his side. Broken Compass is chock full of radio ready goodness that Chamberlain only began to hint at on Underoath's last album. He has the pipes, and the hooks are here too. Pick this up.
MIW have made a career out of repackaging Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails song with simplified riffs and lyrics for today's youth. Is there anything wrong with that? Absolutely not. These guys are more than great at what they do, even if they're not exactly reinventing the wheel here. Reincarnate takes the Marilyn Manson worship of prior effort Infamous a step further, and the kids are sure to turn up in droves. Jaded purists need not tune in.

OTB frontman Alex Erian used to co-front Montreal death metal unit Despised Icon, but there really ins't too much evidence of that here. Gone is any trace of the death metal leanings from the band's debut "Young Blood." What we have here is pretty much straight up beatdown hardcore. The catch is that it's done right. If you like Hatebreed, you'll like this.

Cannibal Corpse are in many ways to death metal what Bad Religion are to punk rock: Every two years they put a record out, and it's pretty much always the same record. Thankfully, that record is always good. It's not broke, they didn't fix it. Won't convert skeptics, but it'll make the fans happy.

Anytime Tony Forresta is involved with a project, you know it's gonna be a good time. The Municipal Waste frontman exceeds the precedent set by Iron Reagan's stellar debut with this ripping set of punk up thrash. Bonus points for the ridiculous solo on "Close to Toast."
