Gus Van Sant's Finding Forrester comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Subtitles for both of those languages are accessible as well. Supplemental materials include the HBO making-of featurette, deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, cast and crew biographies, production notes, and (most interestingly) a short featurette abut the discovery of Rob Brown, the unknown who delivers a fine lead performance in the film.

This is a fantastic movie with sensational acting and a fantastic story line. This is definately Sean Connery at his best. The only thing that could have been better is the extras on the DVD.

Possibly the best musical ever made, this is a tremendous movie. The problem with this DVD is, you miss part of what is going on in the surrounding because of the Full Screen.
What's great about it: the Great Music and Cast
What's not so great: The Full Screen Feature is a real downside.

Great Game, to Short

This is the untold story of Darth Vader' secret apprentice between Star Wars Episodes III and IV. This is a fantastic game with a great story/plot. The only downside is the short length of the game.
What's great about it: Superb story and difficulty.
What's not so great: Should have been longer

This two DVD package commemorates the 60th anniversary of the original theatrical release of Citizen Kane -- a film considered by critics and enthusiasts alike to be the crowning achievement of modern American cinema. The story of Charles Foster Kane is told using several flashbacks from those who knew him best. Outstanding performances from Welles as Kane, Joseph Cotton as Kane's best friend Jedediah Leland, Agnes Moorehead as Kane's mother, and Everett Sloane as Mr. Bernstein, Kane's devoted business associate, are among the silver-screen luminaries who make their motion-picture debuts in Citizen Kane. Disc one contains a pristine (for a 60-year-old film) print presented in full frame (1.33:1). The image is all but free of grain or other visual anomalies. At last viewers can revel in the subtle, yet oh so significant, labors of Wells -- who was also behind the camera in the director's chair -- and noted cinematographer Gregg Toland. Toland's revolutionary deep-focus lenses and high-contrast lighting look crisp and surprisingly fresh. The audio on the DVD is most startling and more revealing than ever. Welles' formidable background in radio immeasurably enhances the film's visual composition. Accompanying the film are two full-length discreet audio commentary tracks. Academy Award-winning director and Welles biographer Peter Bogdanovich supplies an intuitively personal commentary, which is peppered with reminiscence of and quotes from Welles. The audio analysis from film critic Roger Ebert contains complementary information pertaining to film technique and style. Together they supply a comprehensive, entertaining, and ultimately unique perspective of Citizen Kane. The special features menu accesses the extras on disc one. These include a minute of silent newsreel footage from the May 1941 New York premiere as well as an 11-minute gallery of still images including production documentations, photographs, storyboards, promotional posters, and various advertising campaigns with narrative audio by Roger Ebert. In addition, there is a hidden interview segment -- just look for "Rosebud." Disc two contains the two-hour Oscar-nominated documentary The Battle Over Citizen Kane -- which initially aired on the PBS series American Experience in 1995. The film examines the correlation between the real "Citizen" behind Kane. Was it Orson Welles, the actor on and off the stage, or William Randolph Hearst? The results might astound you.

"Citizen Kane", the "greatest" movie every made is through and through a great movie. The acting, superb and the story, fantastic. With Orson Wells directing and having the lead role as Charles Foster Kane, you can't go wrong. Along with a fantastic movie, with this you also get a second disc with a fantastic documentary and other featurettes.
What's great about it: A great story, great acting, great cinematography.

More than a super hero movie

This movie is more than your average super hero movie. Tony Stark is not just Iron Man, but also a man trying to find his inner self and establish who he really is and what he will do as Iron Man.
What's great about it: Great special effects, incredible cinamatography
What's not so great: could have been more action

Penny Marshall's film about female professional baseball players, A League of Their Own, comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and French as well as Spanish soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. Spanish and Korean subtitles are accessible. Although the disc is technically sound, there are no supplemental materials of any consequence. This is a solid, but unspectacular disc from Columbia/TriStar.

Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd star in the comedy Spies Like Us. Warner has put forth an only halfhearted attempt at making sure this transfer looks as good as possible. The film is presented in a cropped 1.33:1 full-frame transfer with all the imperfections of a pan-and-scan feature: dirt, grain, and a softness in the image that is often intrusive. While some of the colors and black levels appear in decent shape, others are soft or display bleeding in the image. Overall this is a very lackluster transfer to what some consider a classic comedy from the 1980s. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround and doesn't offer much in the way of fidelity or dynamic range. While the mix is clear of any excessive hiss or distortion, not a single directional effect is to be found on this audio track. No alternate subtitles or soundtracks are available on this disc. Sadly, fans are stuck with a completely bare-bones edition of this film -- not even a single theatrical trailer has been tacked onto this DVD.
