SynopsisThe classic title Super Mario 64 has been reinvented for the new Nintendo DS. Mario, Luigi and Wario set out from the castle for a royal party with Princess Peach. However, when they arrive they find the castle empty. Meanwhile, Yoshi awakens to find the castle empty with Mario, Luigi and Wario nowhere to be seen. Soon he discovers that Bowser has infiltrated the castle and stolen the Power Stars. He's also imprisoned the Toads in the castle's collection of paintings. While the story is the same, there are new worlds, characters, moves and action-packed mini games to add to the excitement. Take on the role of Mario, Yoshi, Luigi or Wario and use each character's individual talents to find the 150 Power Stars hidden in the castle. Yoshi can eat enemies and turn them into eggs that can be thrown. Mario can punch, kick and wall jump, while Luigi can jump to incredible heights. Use Wario's super strength to break blocks. Locate Power Flowers for even bigger powers, including invisibility, fire breath or floating. Play in Adventure mode and use the game stylus to play new touch-screen mini games. Challenge friends with the Wireless Versus mode, which you can play with only one game card. Enjoy a classic game with an all-new twist.

Even if you've already played the original Mario64, you MUST play this game! With an extra 30 stars to find, and 3 new characters to play, its worth running through it again! Most of the new stars are simple 'find the 8 red coins' routines, but some of them are genuinely challenging (read: I STILL haven't found them all). The new powers each character has to offer throws new twists into the gameplay, but the lack of an analog controller make it a little tricky to pull off some of the more precise sequences necessary to get all the stars. Minor problem in the big picture though in an otherwise OUTSTANDING game!
What's great about it: Semi-Nastolgic Feel With New Things To Try
What's not so great: A Little Trickier Without Analog Control

Train Your Brain

I picked up Big Brain Academy because of the friendly low price, but stayed for the challenging mini-games. BBA features a number of ways to 'train your brain' by forcing you to use deductive reasoning along with math and a few other skills to keep up with, and master, its many games. The only real downside is that once you've seen what it has to offer (usually just by going through the game once), all that's left is to continue to train by playing the same tests over and over again. Granted, I still haven't mastered ALL the tests, but besides the daily quick tests, there's really not much here for me. A value price gains back a star for an otherwise 3-star game!

Not Quite 'Double Dash' But It'll Do
on February 28, 2008

After being solidly addicted to Mario Kart: Double Dash for the longest time (heck, I still am!), I figured I'd give MKDS a try. Fun on the go, to be sure, but I do have a few frustrations with the game. While I know the rules vary from Kart to Kart, simple things like the blue shell seeking you out no matter what position you fall to after its been thrown, to AI racers automatically finishing in their position even if it changes after you cross the finish line, make the game feel slightly sloppy, possibly rushed. Maybe I'm just used to the Double Dash formula, but I dunno? Online play is very fun and a welcome addition, but it can put you in your place VERY quickly if you're not careful. With no real way to prevent cheating, those who find ways to exploit the game are rewarded in unfair ways left and right! As for playing with friends via local connection, BRING IT ON!! Its definately a blast to trash talk in person while stomping on each other- sometimes for hours on end! Mario Kart DS is a game I'd recommend to pretty much anyone, but be warned- you'll have a hard time putting it down!

Once upon a time, the gaming world was turned on its head by a little gray cartridge for the Nintendo Entertainment System: Super Mario Bros. Now, more than twenty years later, witness the evolution of the platformer that started it all with New Super Mario Bros., the latest installment of the beloved franchise on the Nintendo DS. It may be in incredible 3D, but you'll hearken back to those glorious 2D days of stomping Goombas, kicking turtle shells and chasing mushrooms.Join Mario and Luigi as they jump and climb their way over fields, under water, through castles and into the air. Collect all-new powerups, including the Blue Shell that Mario can ride in and the massive Mushroom that makes him super-huge. Team up with a friend and play as both Mario and Luigi in multiplayer mode. You and Mario will both take a nice little trip back to your roots with New Super Mario Bros.

I will agree with some of the reviews I've read on here- this game is a little TOO easy. I can't say it hurts the level of fun though! New Super Mario Bros. takes you back to a simpler time when all you had to do was run from one side of the screen to the other, collecting a variety of powerups along the way. With only a few truly challenging points along the way, most of the fun comes from replaying key levels in order to find all the special coins or find the alternate exit to make it to secret levels. All in all though, you really can't go wrong with this game. The fun to be had here is immense, even though a little short. A sequel should have a higher difficulty or more levels to make the experience last longer!
What's great about it: Classic Feel With New Style Flair
What's not so great: A Little TOO Easy, Not Much Replayability

You've invested a lot of money in your Nintendo DS games and you don't want them to get ruined when you bring them along with you. With the Game Cartridge Case 3-Pack, you can store up to nine of your DS games in sleek cases to keep them protected while you travel. They'll even stay free of dust and dirt. Each case holds three game cartridges, so you can take all three cases and have nine games to choose from or just pick your three current favorites. The durable cases protect your cartridges from accidental drops, keeping your investment safe. The transparent smoke gray color lets you see which games you brought along.

Cheap. Simple. Functional. Can't really go wrong here. Everyone else is giving these 5 stars, and I have no intention of doing anything but. Their slim profile makes them easy to slide right into your DS case (even if its already a tight fit), and giving your DS cards a little more physical size makes them harder to lose or damage. I don't see any reason NOT to by this, honestly!

Short But Fun

I'm going to give this game 3 stars for its 3 levels. Each one is well crafted, with a few twists and turns thrown in to provide variety, but the bottom line is THERE'S ONLY 3 LEVELS!! To its credit, unlockables such as extra guns and costumes provide SOME replayability, as do things like day/night conditions, but it still would have been nice to see one or two extra scenarios thrown in to differentiate this from the arcade version! For the price I'd say its worth picking up if you have the Wii Zapper and are lookin for more stuff to shoot, but beyond that I can't really say this is a MUST HAVE game...

Why Haven't You Bought This Yet??

As the only game I purchased when I got my PS3, I was very glad to see how well the game was done! A long, detailed story line with genuine opportunity for replay kept me (and my friends) coming back for more. Played through no less that 3 times, it was fun to keep coming back and earning new weapons, which put twists into your strategy during gameplay. Great voice acting also helped to draw you into the storyline, giving you the feeling that this might actually have happened at one time, instead of the usual preachy salespitch that many games fall back on. If there is but one small problem I had- in some spots you notice that some more detail could have been present in such a highly-detailed game. It was only a few super minor things (such as a light bulb here and there or set of keys), and nothing that in any way took away from an otherwise EXCELLENT game! I think I'd recommend this for just about anyone looking to get a quality shooter experience but doesn't want a journey that's going to end too soon...

Why Wasn't This In The Box?

Since this uses your USB cord that came with the PS3, why didn't they just make it a little 2" plug that didn't need to use your only wire (assuming you haven't bought an extra by now)? Other than that, this little guy is a great piece to have around if you're gonna be playin your old PS1/2 games on the 3. A little tricky to figure it out at first, but soon becomes second nature. Could have been in the box, but then we'll go down the route of HDMI cables and Bluray remotes so I'll leave it alone lol!

Quality Budget Speakers

I'm going to give these lil guys a 4-star rating solely based on their price. As far as speakers under $100 go, I don't think you can do much better than these! Using nothing more than a pair of fullrange drivers, the Companion 2s are a very nice set of speakers! Bass is suprisingly rich for such a small set, but I do think the clarity could use some improvement. Obviously nowhere NEAR their bigger brothers, the Companion 3s or Music Monitors, in terms of sheer range, but for under $100 I have no complaints! An EXCELLENT pair for casual listening!
What's great about it: Suprisingly rich
What's not so great: Clarity could use some improvment

Trippy little system...
on February 27, 2008

Having two computers, I figured the best solution was having two sets of speakers! After already being blown away by the precursor Companion 3s, I figured I'd pick these up for the machine I'd be doing my primary gaming and movie watching on. For music, I'd stick with the 3s, plain and simple. These speakers plug in by USB use a 'TrueSpace' processor that recreates a 5.1 soundstage with dual driver satellites. It works great for games and movies, but almost makes music sound a little TOO spacious. The sound QUALITY I'd say is right on par with the 3s, but the QUANTITY is much greater! The woofer is a little larger, and the 2 extra drivers definately create a convincing 'surround sound effect' even if a Dolby signal is not present! While I wouldn't compare this to a true 5.1 system (as it only has 2 satellites), I will say that for what it is, it ROCKS!!
What's great about it: Excellent soundstage performance!
What's not so great: (obviously)Not TRUE 5.1...
I would recommend this to a friend!
