This Time Batman Is Alfred!

I've never read the book, but I do love the movie! The Prestige takes you on a journey full of twists and turns as you watch two rival magicians battle it out in an effort to outdo one another. Each cast member seems perfectly suited to their role- I cannot imagine better choices! The whole time you watch the movie, you cannot help but try to figure out the tricks- ESPECIALLY the big one that consumes our main character. Keep your eyes peeled as telltale signs DO pop up during the movie that all make perfect sense in the end, but good luck picking up enough of them to figure it out by the time its all over! One word: DEDICATION. The ending to this movie really makes you smack your forehead in realization, even if it is a bit on the creepy side- I don't think you'll see it coming! As with some movies, this one does suffer from a bit of slowdown at times, but thankfully it is not enough to sour the experience! At the very least, this movie is worth a rental, but I chose to OWN because I know I'll watch this one again from time to time!
What's great about it: GREAT Acting & Storyline, Twist Ending!
What's not so great: A Little Slow At Times, A Little Confusing Others

Talking Chevron Cars This Ain't
on March 6, 2008

I've heard so many people say this, and I will agree- I went into this expecting nothing more than a GIANT Chevron commercial! Talking cars- how original, right? Well, unlike the Wallace & Gromit-inspired commercials, Cars is indeed very fun to watch over and over! While some of the characters are a bit stereotypical, they nonetheless offer the typical charm associated with PIXAR movies! Through the whole movie, you will watch as Lightning McQueen falters at first with everything he does, but then learns his lessons one by one to triumph and become a better person, er, car! Great with young kids and big kids alike, I'd recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a good movie to sit down in front of and enjoy- I know I did!
What's great about it: GORGEOUS CGI, Lovable Characters, Great Story
What's not so great: Was The Wait Worth All The Re-Writes?

Fast-Paced, Non-Stop ACTION
on March 6, 2008

Crank is one of those movies you wish wouldn't end. Few movies manage to acheive the non-stop adrenaline rush this movie pulls off (and seemingly with ease!). From the instant Chev wakes up, he's on the run. In fact, EVERY step he takes in the movie is a running one! As our anti-hero takes off, you will be amused by the creative ways he finds to keep himself going. Everything from bar fights to hospital hold-ups, even frying his own hand to stay alive can be seen here! If I have but one complaint, its that the movie is only an hour and a half long. Then again, I'd rather have an INTENSE hour and a half such as this one, than suffer through boring, pointless scenes that do nothing but drag the pace down! Hopes for a sequel? You'll just have to watch...!

Great Family Fun
on March 6, 2008

A cooking rat. As one who appreciates irony, I figured this was a movie I was NOT going to want to miss. Crafted by the same team who's brought us movies such as Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles (which I'm STILL waiting for on Bluray, I might add!), I knew the chances of being disappointed were slim to none. Boy, was I right! From the very intro to the movie, you can see Remy's story starting to build. His drive to become what he loves most is so strong, his rodent status is almost a non-issue to him- only humans persist in reminding him! As his friendship with Linguini progresses, you do start to wish the story would move a little faster, but at no time does it really drag. Ratatouille is a truly charming movie and one that I will no doubt watch again and again for some time (especially because of how much much my girlfriend loves it)!
What's great about it: Classic PIXAR Charm, Surprisingly Entertaining
What's not so great: A Little Slow Progressing At Times

Worth Checking Out
on March 6, 2008

Open Season is not by any means a bad movie. The CGI is excellent and the cast provides the characters with great personalities, but there's just not much beyond that. Its a simple movie that kids will enjoy which makes it fun for the whole family. Many laughs to be found here, just nothing too terribly memorable. I watched it once, enjoyed it, and then put it on the shelf- haven't touched it since. I think I was just eager to build my Bluray collection when it first came out since not much was available. Now that the novelty of Bluray has worn off a little, I'd be more than willing to put this on my rental list than to just buy it outright. Still, its worth checking out- so have a family movie night and enjoy!
What's great about it: Great Voice Acting, Wonderful CGI
What's not so great: A Little Short, Not Much Storyline Or Character Development

Destined To Be Classics

Spider-Man swings onto Bluray in style! I've thoroughly enjoyed all three of these movies, and while I won't sit here and argue which one is the best (#2! #2!), I will say this box set is the way to go! Granted, I got this from my brother for Christmas, but I was getting ready to buy it due to its value price versus the three when purchased separately anyway! All three movies had great storylines and acting to match, and the special effects blew me away on more than one occassion! The Bluray visuals in this set are very crisp and really bring the detail to life, and the excellent score and dynamic flow of music seemed to accompany each and every scene perfectly! All-in-all, EVERY movie lover should have this set in their collection!
What's great about it: Great Action, Great Story, Great Special Effect
What's not so great: Emo Spidey In #3...

T-2 On Blu-Ray
on February 29, 2008

from Hagerstown, MD
When my girlfriend got me this for Christmas, the first thing that went through my head was 'alright- T2 on Bluray!' After less than an hour into the movie though, my feelings had changed. Don't get me wrong- this is still one of the most awesome movies of all time, but after seeing the extended edition on DVD, I was disappointed to see all those deleted scenes left out of the movie all over again! I really thought that would at least be an option, given the capacity Bluray disks, but I guess not! I mean, when you pick up new copies of Aliens, its still got that extra 27 min of footage in there- its just a staple anymore! Why they would choose to do this to T2's Bluray debut is beyond me!? Left out footage aside, I can agree that while this may be an older movie, there was still some left to be desired on the conversion to high-def. I won't say it looks as bad as DVD, but it certainly doesn't look as good as, say CRANK or something more recent. Even if you don't already have a copy of Terminator 2, I'd say go ahead and wait for the extended version- it will be money better spent!
What's great about it: Awesome Movie That Still Gives Me Chills
What's not so great: Where's All The Extra Scenes?

Beat-A-Man-To-Death PowerBar

Ok, so at this point its become obvious to me that I'm a bit of an overacheiver. I bought this thinking to myself 'wow, a 12 plug power center- now I'll NEVER run out!' ...how wrong I was! With over half a dozen game systems hooked up to my TV & sound system, I think I need to slow down a bit! My power center is now full, but at least I'm lovin it! Haven't had to worry about any surge issues to test it yet (at least not that I know of thankfully), but I CAN say I notice a difference in the performance of my A/V equipment. A little pricey, but at least now I don't have to worry about lines on the screen when someone gets up to microwave something during a movie! If there's one thing I don't like about the filtration circuitry, its that it works TOO well! I used to have my cable modem & router running through it as well, but the circuitry wouldn't allow for the modem to talk out to the network at all! Other than that (and the price), I do love this product and would recommend it to anyone with a lot of stuff to hook up!
What's great about it: 12 Power Plugs!!
What's not so great: I STILL Need More Plugs!!

Perfect For A Mini-Movie System
on February 29, 2008

Having already owned the original SoundDock, I was a little hesitant to pick up a new one for $100 more than I spent the first time around. After a bit of debating, I finally decided to go ahead and give it a try. Let me say, I actually don't regret this at all! I never realized just how useful the portability aspect could be! I had grown so used to leaving the SoundDock plugged in at one location that being able to disconnect the power cord and take it with me from room to room opened up my eyes to a whole new way to enjoy the system! Heading down to the garage to work on the car? No big deal. Want to relax outside for a bit? No biggie. Want music while you're in the shower? NO PROBLEM (though I wouldn't take it IN the shower)! On road trips, I actually like to pack this in the ORIGINAL SoundDock's bag so I have room for my girlfriend's portable DVD player as well. Since both run on batteries, they can be used anywhere and be charged up again when you make it to the hotel! The only thing that kinda bugged me was the price of the spare battery. At $90, I could sooner pick up another battery for my cell phone... then again, my cell phone doesn't sound NEARLY as good as this!
What's great about it: Great Sound, Portable, Aux Input
What's not so great: Spare Battery Is Expensive

Final Disney Fantasy

When two of the biggest companies in history team up, you just KNOW its gonna be something special! This combination of the Final Fantasy series with Disney characters and charm is nothing short of SPECTACULAR! From the first moment you take up the Keyblade and fight with Goofy and Donald at your side, you will be completely drawn in as you journey from one world to the next, meeting many of your favorite Disney and FF characters along the way. Excellent voice acting (many times from the original voice actors) further enhances your experience. If there is one thing I could have done without, it was the annoying Gummi Ship sequences as you travelled from one world to the next. Obviously, I was not alone in this feeling as SquareSoft chose to remove them from the sequel altogether, so I'll just deal with it for now. If you've ever had a love for anything Disney OR Final Fantasy, do yourself a favor and pick this game up- you will NOT be disappointed!
What's great about it: Final Fantasy Meets Disney
What's not so great: Gummi Ship Routines
