Incredible product Performance/Ease of Use
on January 23, 2017
Posted by: BGWolf
Simplicity + working technology = one heck of a product. That is exactly what you get from the Linksys Velop.
I've been in the home networking realm from the beginning of personal wireless routers and it's absolutely incredible how far we have come. The Velo provides a way to blanket wireless connectivity throughout your property (yes, not just your house!) in the most painless way I've encountered yet.
The package comes with 3 units called "nodes" that you spread throughout your property that are responsible for creating that blanket coverage. These units are sleek and just require to be plugged in through a wall outlet.
To begin initial setup of the first node, you download an app (I used the iOS version). This app also served as your administration interface to add additional nodes and customize other wireless settings!
I know everything has apps in today's world, so I get skeptical as to how well it will behave and look. I'm happy to say that the app is very functional, visually appealing, and worked extremely well on my phone!
Setting up the main node was a breeze including WPA 2 encryption. Clear images and a step by step guide were given along the way right in the app.
Choosing good spots for the other 2 nodes was easy to take full advantage of the range. Adding these two nodes was just as easy as the initial node and before I knew it I was up and running with one access point in the list of open wifi connections! The nodes work together and do not make you choose which one you may think is the best to join!
Some unique things I can share about my experiences with performance:
1) I have virtually flawless wifi now on my whole property
2) With all the wireless devices I have, I still was able to connect a blu-ray without wireless connectivity through the Ethernet port of the one node. Yes each node has an Ethernet out on it!
3) An Apple TV that is in my garage and of which I use to stream my workouts now has flawless playback. An issue I had with the standalone router. In fact, the one node is located right in my detached garage!
4) Speed has been top notch despite all the devices I have using it.
5) This last one I'll talk about is something my wife absolutely loves. I don't have a huge router sitting on a shelf anymore! She gained more space and now doesn't see what she considered an eye sore out in the open anymore!
I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for an amazing experience for wireless connectivity through the home. No range extenders and easy setup through a very capable app make this an incredible package!

Solid, Strong Trimmer that Won't Disappoint
on December 4, 2016
Posted by: BGWolf
I've had many trimmers throughout the years - typically I let my beard grow a bit then cut it back and repeat.
One of the biggest complaints I've had about trimmers is that they weren't strong enough to cut through longer grown beards - tugging and having to go over areas multiple times. Due to the prolonged use, the battery then would typically die before I was finished and I was left in a mess!
Not the case with this Norelco trimmer!
I had quite the beard going and I couldn't wait to cut it back. The attachments that came in the package were incredibly useful and gave plenty of options for me to go. I first trimmed back using the hair clipper comb, and boom - it charged through my beard nicely and efficiently right from the first cut! It felt like it had the power of a full sized hair clipper. This power though with the precision of the trimmer came in handy by the harder to groom spots like mustache area.
After I plowed through the bulk of the beard, I put the precision trimmer on and again was so happy with the results. I straightened the lines out and was able to do so with ease and comfort. I then attacked the nose hairs with the nose trimmer and it did a great job as it was easy to angle to get the targeted areas.
I want to note that changing out the attachments from one to the other was very easy to do and I was able to quickly go from one to the other without delay or fumbling around.
Between the power, precision, and ease of use I completely recommend this product to anyone looking for a new trimmer. I gladly threw out my fragile underwhelming trimmer from before and happily will use this one now!

Hair Dryer is Legit!
on December 3, 2016
Posted by: BGWolf
Overall this was one of the most efficient, time saving, and legitimate hair dryers I have ever used!
Pros:
- Light weight
- High power air flow
- Multi temperatures so it won't burn your hair
- Quick drying/ non tangling
- Filter is at bottom of handle so hair won't get caught in it and burn off
- Quiet fan (doesn't wake baby!)
- Long cord so I'm not stuck in one place.
- Tools are magnetic so they are easy to put on and remove without super strength and possibility of damaging it
- Hair won't get caught in the fan portion of the dryer bc it is hollow (great for long hair)
- My hair is definitely shinier and it doesn't feel burned or crispy after using it at highest temperature
- I didn't over heat and it didn't over heat the room (thinking of summer with not a greasy AC or winter with heat turned on.)
- I have a lot of very fine hair... if I blow dry it one day I usually have to wash and dry it the next day due to it looking oily (from heat/products) I haven't had to wash and dry my hair every day after using it.. it's significantly not as oily and flat.
Cons
- Cord is heavy - could be lighter with a way to extend its length
- Hook that goes on the dryer to hang it doesn't fit very well or is too small to go around the dryer/handle
- A bag would be great to hold all styling tools as there are 3.

Incredible voice recognition, what's next?!
on November 21, 2016
Posted by: BGWolf
It's amazing how many things grow on you when you decide to finally give it a try.
I'm a little old fashioned and never fully understood the appeal of voice activated services - I think primarily because of the trials this technology has been through when it first started.
After using Google Home though, I'm starting to get hooked on the fact that voice recognition and Google Assistant are indeed VERY real.
One of the main issues I had in the past was simply the voice recognition could not decipher what I was saying, especially pronouns. I was blown away when I asked "Who played Professor Lockhart in Harry Potter Chamber Of Secrets?" and within a second Google Home was telling me the answer.
Not only that, I was able to ask "What other movies was he in?" and this was where things got really interesting. The question itself is not necessarily a brain buster, but the fact that I didn't have to follow up the first question with "What movies was Kenneth Branagh in?" and specifying the actor - it felt like I was having a genuine conversation.
These advancements in my eyes also separate Google Assistant from the competition as my experience has been that it seems to do an unbelievable job at decoding what I asked. The speed almost frightened me at some answers - like "How long would it take to drive to Croxley's?"
Before I knew it, I was asking it questions about sports, television schedules, and weather for a particular time of day. My wife who is currently on maternity with our newborn daughter is finding it invaluable to just ask it to set timers as her hands are full.
Setting it up with music services such as Pandora was also a huge delight and the built in speaker actually surprised me in how much punch it provided. Google Assistant's voice was also very clear - which made it great to place it out of the way and not in my face in order to interact with it.
I also recently got a hold of the Google Pixel XL and was interested to see how Google Assistant would pick up my voice on both Google Home and the Pixel when in the same vicinity of each other. Nicely done, my phone gave control of Assistant to Google Home - so I was not hearing double the responses.
My next plans are to start looking into more home automation, and I am absolutely excited to see how I can have Google Home interact with these components. I am a believer now in how legitimate this technology is, and I cannot wait to see where this takes me!

Incredible device - I'm in Love

Packaging and First Impressions
--------------
Right away when I looked at and held the packaging, it felt like this was going to be an absolute treat. The box itself was just the right size making it compact but efficient. The excitement just kept building as I opened everything up and proceeded to unwrap the phone.
The phone is sturdy, completely solid, and smooth in the hands. Although this is not the lightest phone I’ve ever had, the weight it does possess adds to the overall premium vibe in my opinion. I was able to get a good grip in one hand, and transferring from hand to hand did not have much of a “slip” factor that some other phone enclosures. Plain and simple, this felt like a well-engineered piece of work!
The Screen
--------------
Simply put: gorgeous. The colors, the clarity, and the glass are spectacular. Pictures were a pleasure to view and I found myself revisiting old pictures just to see how they view on this display (more on Google Photos later). Text while reading articles and posts were incredibly crisp and legible. The touch responsiveness and accuracy were also top notch and smooth.
Granted I haven’t had every phone out there, but out of my experiences, it is the best screen I have ever had on a phone.
Camera/Photos
--------------
I am not a professional photographer, but I 100% appreciate the art and the easier it is for me to take beautiful photos, the more I find myself taking. Having just had my first child a month ago, this was incredibly important. Here are the following things that totally got me hooked:
Speed: Opening the Camera app and snapping pics was very fast. I didn’t find myself in a panic that I would miss an opportunity
Tools: You have standard grid overlay available, HDR+ processing, environment presets (cloudy, sunny, fluorescent, etc. – for my tests I just used auto), a timer, and a very capable flash. You have the ability to do panorama and even photo sphere, but the feature that had me addicted was the Lens Blur. I could not get enough of this and was able to capture some amazing shots that put into focus the subject in a beautiful way!
Integration with Google Photos: Since I already had signed into the phone with my Google account, the phone was automatically set to sync with Google Photos. What is nice about this? Google Photos gives you unlimited photo storage support, more tools to enhance and edit the photos, and automatically syncs as you take new pictures. You then can access these photos on other devices easily enough and all the while you don’t need to retain the photos on your local storage of the phone. A huge plus if you find that local storage starts to become a problem.
Quality: The pictures were very impressive with high detail and realistic color representation. I even had pretty good success with low-light environments, which in my experience has been an absolute killer for a lot of cell phone cameras I’ve owned. I attached just a few to give an idea of how nice they can be. I found myself looking at these on my laptop in greater detail and being blown away by how it looks!
Android Nougat and Google Assistant
--------------
This has been the most pleasant version of Android that I have used to date. I believe the phone’s solid hardware specs help with that impression, but the interface was as clean as I have seen yet. The pre-installed apps were ones that I expected to be there and were useful. The transitions were very smooth when toggling through different apps, the scrolling was precise, and this is a pure example of how far Android as come throughout the years.
Google Assistant also had me impressed. Asking for directions to a restaurant worked right the first time, even though I was a little hesitant about the restaurant name confusing the voice recognition. Asking questions brought up relevant information from weather to sports, and while feeding my baby daughter, the phone picked up my voice from a distance and actually was able to hear and answer me. I can only imagine this feature will get better through time
Battery
--------------
The question of today for any device that you use. There’s nothing more disappointing than when you run out of juice, so with a 5.5” screen and the way I use my phone, I was a little nervous as to how much power I would get.
To test it out I first made sure I was at full charge. Through my level of usage, I literally was able to get through 1.5 days and still have 18% left! One of the features then I was so excited to try out was how quickly the phone charges (as is one of the features that is highly touted on the Pixel). I was able to add hours and hours of usage within 10-15 minutes of charging. This is a BIG factor for me considering I commute every day for around 3 – 3.5 hours a day. If I don’t have charge and don’t have the ability to charge fast, I’m left quickly without the use of a device.
Phone/Wireless
--------------
Being on Verizon has its perks and both coverage and speed are part of that. I am in full LTE coverage and was able to enjoy speeds that were as fast as Wi-Fi throughout most of my use so far! It’s incredible how much speed and connectivity are at your fingertips now and I have nothing but high marks on the phone’s performance in this area.
Phone calls were also clear and solid. The ear piece volume more than covered my needs (and I am a little hard of hearing as it is) and I was told that my voice was sounding great on the receiving end. The speaker phone volume also was right where I needed it to be.
Conclusion
--------------
This review is a little long and could be a lot longer but I will try to wrap it up here. I am so happy with this phone and just ever more excited to try out more features and grow with it. The hardware makes this a pleasure to use, the newest Android OS is very awesome, and the camera really makes me question when I really even need to break out my bigger bulkier SLR. It does EXACTLY what I need in a phone, does it extremely well, and leaves a lot more room to learn and have fun. Paired with my Verizon Wireless account, I have the world at my fingertips and the ability to capture and expand my own personal life.

First Jump to Wireless Headphones - I'm Hooked
on October 5, 2016
Posted by: BGWolf
The headphones I use are a very integral part of my life. During work weeks, I typically use them every day for a minimum of 5 hours a day because I commute on a train and then I continue to use them throughout the day to listen to podcasts and music while I code (I'm an appplication developer)
That being said there's certain criteria that are must haves:
(1) Noise Cancellation - Being on a train, with the sound of the engine itself the constant hum can plague any type of non noise cancelling headphones. There's also many moments when you just want to drown out surrounding conversation. As my experience went with previous Bose noise cancellation, this to me was my best experience yet. Everything just felt natural in the noise processing and it did an absolutely superb job blocking out the both the train engine and chatty passengers.
There's another part to this though that I hadn't had before which is AMAZING. The ability to toggle the level of noise cancelation through a separate volume up/down control. What does this mean? It means you can still benefit from blocking unwanted outside noise - but you can allow enough to get in if you need it.
My situation? Once I reach the city, the walk from the station to my office is a little over a mile. In a city like NYC, noise cancelation is a dangerous thing to use when walking. In my previous experiences, I could only toggle the cancelation on and off. If completely on, I risk not hearing emergency vehicle sirens, horns, or any other noise that would pose a threat to me. With this? I can allow a comfortable level of noise and still maintain an incredible clarity on the content I'm listening to. Without a doubt, this was one of the game changers for me.
(2) Comfort - In ear headphones can be very tricky with comfort. With the different sizes of a persons ear, it's all too easy for them to fall out, not fit right to create a good seal, and/or uncomfortably sit too far into the ear and create too much pressure. I was very happy to find that the tips that were already on (multiple sizes are included in the box) fit very well.
Not only did the fit feel comfortable, listening for extended periods of time did not create any discomfort inside the ear! As I said above, I will go extended periods of time with these on, and they felt great the whole time.
On top of fitting well, it created a good enough seal that I could pump up the volume and did not have anyone outside hear what I was hearing. This is humongous because I know with confidence I'm not disturbing anyone else.
One last piece to this is the band that houses the battery and connects the two earbuds together. At first I didn't know what to expect as I put this around my neck - it is pretty sci-fi looking, but it felt comfortable and if you ask me provides a perfect base in case the buds pop out. These will stay by you whether they get pulled out voluntarily or involuntarily and this is something that I think stands out to the ones that if dropped could potentially fall to the floor and be lost. It also did not get int he way when sitting back on the train seat or tilting my head in any direction.
(3) Sound Quality - With the noise cancelation and Bose sound quality, I always look at the sound with a flat EQ. Again I am happy to say that the highs sounded clear and across the spectrum had a full sound. The bass was clear as well, however, my only criticism is that the bass doesn't pack as much punch and depth as I was hoping for.
I also tested the volume limitations and my own perceived distortion on higher volumes and the clarity remained in tact. I typically like to test this part with an album that usually blows speakers - and the two I listened to "Califonication" by the Chili Peppers and "Death Magnetic" by Metallica both pulled through on higher volumes.
(4) Wireless in general - I have no previous experience in this area so I can only tell you what I experienced with an iPhone 6 on iOS 10. The pairing was incredibly easy and I downloaded and used the Bose Connect app to further customize things (like device name). I had a number of worries for wireless:
(A) Battery life - The documentation stated that these headphones can go for 10 hours. Although I never tested this maximum, I never had an issue coming close to losing full battery on a normal day's use. I'm very religious in charging everything overnight, but I know that it never got lower than 55% which in my book is excellent. iOS 10 also has a little battery meter next to the Bluetooth signal that you can estimate where the headphones stand. Voice prompts also come through the headphones when connecting that will tell you the battery percent level as well.
(B) Response time with controls - I was surprised to find that when using the controls on the headphones themselves responded quicker than I thought they would. Also when watching video, one piece of criticism I've heard on other brands was a delay in the audio/video syncing - not so in this case. Things always seemed in sync.
I give this an excellent rating because of the countless positives it provides. I did say the bass could be a little more pronounced, but to be honest, the noise cancelation technology in these is absolutely superb. The controls are easy to use and press the right button without seeing it (I've had some controls on other brands that have been hard to target certain actions) and the battery life/wireless experience has me absolutely hooked now. I literally don't have to worry about a wire coming out of my coat pocket once winter comes full swing, I can put my phone in my bad on the train and just use the controls on the headphones, and I recommend this to anyone that falls into any of these categories that I do.
I never thought I'd fall into the wireless route with music listening, but now I don't see ever leaving it!

Packed with features and EASY to use!
on June 13, 2016

Routers have come a LONG way since my first Linksys wireless router that I had bought years ago. With today's world being ever more connected and security being a huge priority, the Linksys EA9500 MAX-STREAM AC5400 router provides modern needs, advanced features, and a very easy to use interface to customize everything.
Having access to an ultra fast 5 GHz band or the longer range 2.4 GHz band was a delight. Having some devices like my Apple TV well within the range of that 5 GHz band showed a pleasant performance improvement.
One of the most amazing things I put to use the first day I set this up was the "Guest Wifi" feature that allows you to setup a separate guest access point - similar to one you would use at a Starbucks but even more secure. You can setup a different password for this and make it one that you can give visiting family and friends without worrying about them obtaining the key to your main network! Something like this being so easily accessible in my home now, for me, was an incredible option.
Getting back to the web configuration tool, you can toggle the different bands on/off for say the guest network, and you can create even different wifi access keys for the 2.4 Ghz and the 5 GHz bands. You also have access to a network map which clearly showed my devices connected to that access point (even was able to show the identification of the different iPhones connected).
2 USB ports to connect NAS devices, 8 wired ports to wire in the AppleTV right next to it as well as my Blu Ray player and TV with ports to spare, and to take advantage of the VLAN option - yes, you can partition the domain! - it's exhausting just going through all of the cool things that you can do right in your home. Having the VLAN especially will be great once I start looking into putting home automation devices strictly on that subdivision and keeping it separate from my main computer access.
One last note on performance - I stream every day video from multiple sources, even internally between devices, and the performance was top notch without any issues. The one time I was experiencing a problem...it turned out that the cable connection was completely down!
Whew! A lot to cover here and even more to explore in the future, but know that this device is amazing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone out there looking for a feature packed and easy to configure device for their home. With the complexity of the connections we now have within our home, these options for security purposes are very useful!

Fantastic Experience...So Far
on July 10, 2014
Posted by: BGWolf
from Long Island, NY
Before I purchased the B&W C5, I was feverishly researching what the best options would be without completely breaking the bank. I already traveled the typical road of Beats (ear buds and over the ear), Bose (ear buds), and then tried to look into other brands such as Senheisser. There are a couple of things I really needed:
1) Comfort. I commute and use the headphones for long amounts of time daily. I need a good yet compact and secure fit.
2) Sound Quality: It's always a dream of mine to just listen to music with a flat lined EQ. A solid sound with balance is what I was after
3) Noise Isolation: Since I take the train and work in the city, I need noise isolation from both the loud sounds of the train/city, but since I listen to music at relatively loud volumes, isolation from other people hearing what I'm listening to as a common courtesy to co-workers and co-commuters
That being said, I always opted for ear buds. Before the C5's I tried over the ear Sennheisers, and I LOVED the sound quality, but the comfort left so much to be desired, you also could clearly hear what I was listening to, and they were bulky for the commuting. I ultimately returned them. After further research I decided to give the C5's a shot.
I read a lot about how great these were with the exception of an unusually high failure rate after months of use and bad customer support. I also heard two sides to the story of how the fit was - those that couldn't get it to fit at all, and those that find the fit incredible. I still decided to buy these and decide for myself.
So far (fingers crossed) I am VERY pleased with the experience:
* For my ears, these are the most secure fitting ear buds I have ever owned. The loop design seriously anchors them into my ears with creating a pressure filled vacuum in the ear canal. I also have been able to keep them on for hours at a time without irritating my ears, something other ear buds had done quite often.
* Noise isolation for outside noises is really good. Sometimes a little too good. I hear almost nothing from the outside and people around me cannot hear my loud music either
* Sound quality is excellent. I now use a flat EQ and it sounds fantastic. I agree with others that the bass can be muddy, but the bass tones are still powerful. It is exactly a sweet spot that I was looking for
* If you are an Apple person, the controls for iOS are probably the only thing I have to say disappoints me greatly. The volume controls are very difficult to use without accidentally hitting the play/pause button. Skipping and repeating songs can also be a task when done from the control. They decided to make it a single unit with no clear distinction of the volume and play buttons, which is fine, but after using multiple headphones with this type of control I still have not gotten used to it.
All in all, I hope that these headphones last. I'm still nervous about that 5-6 month mark, where people claim it just stopped functioning right. I'm 2 months in, however, and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great set of headphones.
What's great about it: Design, sound quality, fit, noise isolation
What's not so great: iOS controls, included case

Amazing Sound, Comfort Not For Everyone
on May 20, 2014
Posted by: BGWolf
from Long Island, NY
How Often Used:Daily
In today's world, "Beats" reigns supreme among consumers, but I heard all too often that the actual sound quality of Beats headphones was not considered favorable by audiophiles.
Just a little background - I am a huge sound enthusiast, but not a self proclaimed audiophile. I've played music most of my life and my ears are at least sensitive to the vast spectrum of qualities that music is available in. I also commute every day by train, and it's safe to say I spend a LOT of time with my headphones and music.
That being said, I always opted for ear buds, but after reading reviews, Sennheiser seemed to get a lot of favorable ratings. I am completely familiar with the different Beats options as my wife has the solo HDs and I even won a pair of the iBeats ear buds in a raffle. For this price range I decided to give Sennheiser a shot and see for myself.
If you are into packaging, the actual packaging has a very premium feel! I felt like it was Christmas morning as I got it open. The carrying case it comes with is sturdy (an important thing for me as I commute every day) and when I held the headphones for the first time it all just felt solidly built and strong.
I put them on, plugged them in, and thoroughly enjoyed the quality right off the bat. Compared to my experience with Beats, there was a lot more clarity and crispness to the sound. I even was able to flatten out the EQ on my iPhone and it completely hit the sweet spot! The included iPhone/iPod/iPad music controls were nicely integrated and easy to operate without even looking - a HUGE plus.
After listening to music for an hour or so, the first limitation presented itself to me. I took the headphones off and realized the band that goes around the head left a pretty defined indentation on the top of my head! Now to be exact, I shave my head so I have no hair. Even though the fit didn't hurt, it was snug, and the design of the padding wreaked havoc on my bald head!
I decided to stick with it, since I loved the quality, and gave it daily use for a week before I analyzed it again. What I found was I tried almost every angle and length to not leave the indentations of the padding! The thing that sort of pushed me to return the item was when I realized that the volumes I listen to music at were completely audible by people around me. In an office and on a train, I couldn't have that, so I decided these were not the best fit for my needs.
I still would recommend this product for anyone that wanted to try over the ear headphones. The quality will not disappoint, just hopefully your head is not as susceptible to the fit as mine was!
