Good Movie
on June 10, 2009

I went into this movie really wanting to like it but when I saw it I was a little bored. The singing by some of the cast members could have been a little better, and also the acting. Meryl Streep is a great actress and she was phenominal in this movie. Some of the parts were a little slow. I say people should see it because the music is great
What's great about it: The Songs
What's not so great: The Acting and Sometimes The Singing

Hilary Duff took a big jump from comedy to drama, and I have to say she really pulled it off. This movie was very heartwarming. It was a great movie about never giving up on your dreams. Hilary Duff is a great actress.
What's great about it: The story was well written

Teen star Hilary Duff brings her popular television character Lizzie Maguire to the big screen, and now (very quickly) to DVD. Unquestionably the high point of this disc is the transfer, which is presented in both anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen and cropped pan-and-scan. A wonderful job has been done here with the original film elements, as colors are perfectly realized, while blacks are solid and show no sign of breakdown. The detail is equally good, especially in presenting the beautiful city of Rome. The 5.1 Dolby Digital track is certainly predictable. The surrounds aren't developed in any significant way, but for a small teen romantic comedy, it still sounds full and recreates the existing sound field as it should. Supplements are relatively weak, with a 11-minute PR featurette on the making of the film as the centerpiece. Also included are the music video for "Hey Now" by Duff and a promotional piece hyping her new album. Amounting to little is a music video for the remake of "Volare," which consists solely of the scene in the film. Finally, along with some home video previews for the likes of Sleeping Beauty and The Lion King are two deleted scenes and an alternate ending, with option introductions from director Jim Fall.

Hilary Duff At Her Best
on June 10, 2009

This was Hilary Duff's first movie on the big screen and I have to say it was one of her best. The lizzie Mcguire series was so big but they took the movie to a whole other level. The plot was good and the songs that Hilary duff sing are great. Go out and buy this movie and I bet you will watch it over and over.
What's great about it: Hilary Duff, Plot
What's not so great: Could have been a little longer

The popular children's television show comes to the screen in this sci-fi adventure about a group of teenage superheroes battling an evil leader bent on world domination. The film's six heroes lead double existences as normal young teens who, when needed, don color-coded costumes to become the Power Rangers. Under the guidance of the valiant Zordon (Nicholas Bell), the Rangers fight crime with kung-fu skills and specialized attack vehicles. This time, the Rangers are battling Ivan Ooze (Paul Freeman), a millennia-old villain who hopes to take over the world with an army of phlegm creatures. The Rangers' only hope for victory is to acquire a special power source, leading to a dangerous journey into outer space. Despite the larger budget, the film remains true to the style of the show, which often recalls Japanese monster movies in its depictions of battling giant monsters through obvious special effects. The fast-paced fantasy action attracted a good portion of its intended youthful audience, while not becoming quite as much of a sensation as the TV series; some adults attacked the film for its reliance on violence (though of a bloodless, cartoon variety) and its status as a blatant promotional tool for the best-selling Power Ranger toys.

Worst Movie

This was a poor excuse of a movie I like Johnny Knoxville but he was better in the other movie he made. Adding Jessica Simpson was not any better she can't act. This movie was a waste of time to watch.

Who knows why a movie, even a small independent one, with a big star and generally good buzz from the critics, did so little box office. Home video might just be the place for this little film to get noticed. As for the DVD, credit goes to Fox for including both 1.85:1 anamorphic and full-frame transfers, but it's amazing that the image from a major studio is so substandard. Granted, the film's low budget could be part of the problem, but not all elements of the visual image are faulty. The prime problem is the blacks, which have more of a blue look, and no density at all. Colors are generally realistic, but the darker parts of the picture simply look bad. In this day and age when transfers are looking photo realistic, this one just doesn't stand up. The sound, which is a 5.1 English Dolby Digital track, is certainly good enough for a smaller, independent film. In other words, don't expect too much. Dialogue is clear, which is all important. The lack of any surrounds really isn't a surprise, and certainly doesn't hurt the overall DVD experience. Making up for the horrendous transfer are some decent supplemental features. On both sides of this disc are commentaries from director Miguel Arteta and writer Mike White and one from actress Jennifer Aniston. Neither tracks are all that impressive, especially Aniston's as she only shows up now and then throughout the film. On the widescreen side are nine deleted scenes with optional commentary from Arteta and White and a slightly different ending montage, while on the full-frame side is a gag reel that is quite funny. Missing is the standard theatrical trailer, but otherwise, not too bad of a package.
