Giraffe's Reviews

The DragonBall Z anime series continues with this feature, the tenth in a series of 13 movies attached to the story. A fierce battle with Goku has put Broly in a coma, and his body is hidden in the deep recesses of a forbidding mountain range. Years later, after the death of Goku, Broly's body is discovered by Gohen, his son Goten, and Trunks; the fighter is reawakened, and now the three are forced to pick up where Goku left off.

Good DBZ movie

I really don't like Videl and it just makes me mad that she is in this movie so much. I don't like her, she is very annoying and she thinks that being Hercule's daughter is something to brag about, how very wrong she is. If Videl wasn't in this movie at all, then I would have given it five stars, but since they decided to put her in it, that makes the market value of the product go down. I'm also kind of annoyed by Goten since he cries in this movie and I hate the sound of a kid whining. He should have just taken the apple no matter what Videl said. Why should he listen to her, when he's way way way stronger than her, actually I don't think that I put enough ways in there. So other than the fact that Videl's in this movie, (which makes me so mad) it's a pretty good movie with pretty good fighting. But just thinking about how Videl was in it just makes me so mad, I better hurry and send this review through before I get too mad about Videl being in it and changing my rating to 3 stars instead.
What's great about it: It's a pretty good sequel
What's not so great: Videl is in it

This feature length Dragon Ball Z movie comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that preserves the original aspect ratio of the film. Although an English soundtrack is accessible, purists will probably prefer to listen to the Japanese soundtrack while reading the English subtitles. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this disc is certainly worthwhile for fans of the popular series, and might also be of interest to genre enthusiasts. This DVD contains the uncut version of the film that may contain materials some parents may find unacceptable.

A decent movie, but not that great

I wasn't that impressed with the fighting in this movie, it was just a bunch of jumping through robots in slow motion and then the robots exploding. It got old fast, I think that they should have came up with better fighting scenes, since after all DragonBallZ is an action anime. I do like that they put in enough effort to make this movie at least an hour long, but I really wish they would have made more of an effort on the fighting scenes. Although there was a cool move that they made up for Piccolo and this was the first DBZ movie with Vegeta in it. So if you haven't seen this movie before or if you haven't seen it in a long time and you want to see it again, then you should buy this product because after all it is a DBZ movie so it's worth a watch and who knows, you might actually find that you like it a lot better than I did. It is a good movie; I just think that they could have tried a little bit harder to make it better.
What's great about it: It's a little over an hour and it's a DBZ movie
What's not so great: The fighting wasn't that great for the most part

3 Androids and 3 Super Saiyans, but only 1 movie

I'm pretty sure this is the shortest DBZ movie. There is nothing I can find wrong with this movie other than the fact that the movie is so short. It's a really good movie and I like it a lot, but I wish that the people who made it would have made it a bit longer (even if it was only 5 minutes longer that would be good). This movie is in no box sets, so if you don't have this movie, then you should buy it because this is the only way you're going to get his movie. Maybe you might think that it's kind of lame for me to not give this movie 5 stars, just because of it being a shorter film, but as I said earlier that is the only thing that I could find wrong with this product. So overall it's a pretty good product, but I just wish that it was longer.
What's great about it: Great Movie with Great Fighting in it
What's not so great: Only 1 minute longer than 45 minutes

One of the best DBZ movies

This movie is probably my favorite DBZ movie (Quick Note: the DBZ specials are not considered to be movies). All of the DBZ movies don't go along with the show, they are said to be like alternate universes (they're not supposed to go along with the show). In this movie, I would say that Goku has already mastered 100 times gravity; basically I'm just saying that how strong the characters are looks like the same as they were in the Freeza saga. Now for why I gave this product only 4 stars, I have said before that I like box sets best and there is a box set of this movie with the two Cooler (Freeza's brother) movies. But you may already have the Cooler (Freeza's brother) movies or you may not like the Cooler (Freeza's brother) movies, so if either of those are the case, then you should definitely but this product. The reason why I said "Freeza's brother" after every time I typed Cooler is because I didn't want you to think that there are cooler movies than this one because this one is pretty darn cool, other than the fact that there is a part in this movie where Gohan whistles and dances, but Piccolo's reaction to that reminds us all of what a cool dude Piccolo is.
What's great about it: Great Story and Great Fighting
What's not so great: Gohan Dances

1 of the 2 Great TV Specials

Now I know that most DBZ movies are around 50 minutes long, but that is why I think that they should sell DBZ movies in sets. In about a week there will be a box set of this exact movie and the "Bardock: The Father Of Goku" movie. So, if you already have the Bardock special, but you don't have the Trunks special, then you should definitely buy this product. Now I think that the movie itself deserves 5 stars, but the product I give 4 stars. This movie is about what happened in Trunks' time before he went back in time to where before he was born and fought Freeza and King Cold. I really like this movie and would say that this is definitely one of the best DBZ movies. It has good fighting in it and the story is great. It is much more real than most of the DBZ movies. The only DBZ movie that I like better than this one is the "Bardock: The Father Of Goku" movie, but I barely like that one better. You know what; maybe I should just call it a tie.
What's great about it: Great Movie
What's not so great: Only about 50 minutes long

Gohan finds it's harder than he expected to get used to his new status as a hero in this collection of episodes from the DragonBall Z anime series. DragonBall Z: Great Saiyaman -- Gohan's Secret has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Viewers may choose between the original Japanese-language soundtrack and a dubbed version in English; optional English subtitles are also included.

Great Saiyaman, more like Decent Saiyaman
on February 12, 2008

Well, you only get 3 episodes. This product has the 2nd, 3rd and 4th episodes of Gohan's High School days, the first episode of Gohan as a teen ager was on the volume before this one. I'm not a big fan of the Great Saiyaman Saga, (I don't think the Other World Tournament should be put in with the Great Saiyaman Saga, I think it should be it's own Saga) the reason being because I don't like that Gohan turns out to be such a dork and I really don't like Videl. The Season Set for this part in the series won't come out for a year, so if you really like the great Saiyaman Saga and you really want to see it again, then you should buy this product. Also, if you don't like that the Season Sets are in wide screen, then you should really buy this product.
What's great about it: DragonballZ Episodes
What's not so great: It's the Great Saiyaman Saga

Sacrifice nothing when you buy this DVD
on February 12, 2008

On this DVD you get 4 episodes, which most DragonBallZ DVD's only have 3. This DVD is the second to the last DVD of the Cell Games Saga, so there are only 4 episodes after the last one on this DVD in the Cell Games Saga. The 4 episodes on this DVD are called "Cell's Breakdown." "A Hero's Farewell." "Cell Returns!" And... "The Horror Won't End" This DVD is uncut, so you don't have to worry about anything being edited out, you're getting the full picture here. I think that this product is a good buy.
What's great about it: 4 Episodes
What's not so great: None

Doctor Wheelo's voice
on February 12, 2008
Posted by: Giraffe
Now I know it seems crazy that I'm obsessing over Doctor Wheelo's voice, but it's just that in the "DragonBallZ First Strike" box set, which is the Funimation re dub of "The World's Strongest" movie has a horrible voice for Doctor Wheelo. It sounded like Microsoft Sam. So I really recommend this dub of "The World's Strongest" which is the Ocean Dub because Doctor Wheelo's voice sounds so much better in it.
What's great about it: Good voice choice for Doctor Wheelo
What's not so great: None

The Best Deal Ever
on February 11, 2008
Posted by: Giraffe
You get 39 episodes for 30 dollars, that's less than a dollar an episode. Also, you get more episodes on this box set than you do in the Seasons 2, 3 and 4 box sets. Even though it's in wide screen, you really don't even notice after you've watched a few episodes. I've seen wide screen movies where the picture only takes up half of the screen because it's cropped so badly, but this is barely cropped at all. This is for the first time ever that you can have the English voices with the Original Japanese music, although I prefer the American music better because the Japanese music is kind of old and boring, so you can always switch over to the American music if you want to (That is an option). It's uncut, so you're really getting a great deal. I strongly recommend this product.
What's great about it: Too many to list in this small section.
What's not so great: No Cons

3 out of the 4 DragonBall movies
on February 11, 2008
Posted by: Giraffe
I could not find anything wrong with this product. You get 3 of the DragonBall movies on 3 separate DVDs. "The Path To Power" is the longest DraonBall movie, it is 82 minutes long. That is longer than all of the other DragonBall movies, DragonBall Z Movies, and longer than the Dragonball Gt movie. "The Path To Power" is like a mixture between "The Saga Of Goku" and "The Red Ribbon Saga." "Mystical Adventure" is like the "World Martial Arts Tournament Saga" but it is also like the part in DragonBall where Mercenary Tao plays a big role, because of similar events. Also in "Mystical Adventure" you will see some characters from Akira Toriyama's "Dr. Slump". "Sleeping Princess In Devil's Castle" starts out with Goku and Krillin showing up at Master Roshi's Island, just like how they did in the series, except for this time Master Roshi sends the boys off to the Devil's Hand. There Goku and Krillin are to search for the sleeping princess. And what will happen when the full moon comes out? Find out, by buying this great box set. Also, I really liked the art work on the back cover of the box set, it looks really cool.
What's great about it: 3 Great movies
What's not so great: No Cons
