Great set.

This is a very convenient and worthwhile set. Three of Tom Hanks' best comedic roles are included. I got the set mainly for "Dragnet," and I had not seen the other two films prior to the purchase. Here are my ratings:
The Money Pit: 7/10
The Burbs: 8/10
Dragnet: 10/10
The only problem is that there aren't very many special features -- just a making-of for "The Money Pit," an alternate ending for "The Burbs" and trailers for each film. Highly recommended.
What's great about it: good trilogy of films
What's not so great: lack of extra features

I had reasonable expectations for this film, but I was amazing that it was so good -- easily the best movie based on a videogame. The hour-long documentary on the DVD is worthwhile. Highly recommended.

One of the sleeper hits of 1999, Election is the first high school film geared for adults since Blackboard Jungle. The DVD boasts a crisp widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital Surround Sound. The only extra is director Alexander Payne's commentary, which is terrific--insightful, articulate and personal. Listening to the commentary, it becomes clear that Payne didn't make a great film by accident, but through a combination of clear vision and methodical craft. Payne is remarkably frank in discussing his subtle devices, which makes for a great lecture for any aspiring filmmaker.

This film is amazing. It's not that funny, but it's sharp and witty. Don't expect a laugh-out-loud comedy, and I don't think you'll be disappointed. The commentary track by Alexander Payne is great. Also, I recommend getting the older cover of the DVD (with Matthew Broderick in Reese Witherspoon's mouth). Highly recommended.

Starring Laura Dern, the 1996 satirical comedy Citizen Ruth comes to DVD from Buena Vista. Presented with a widescreen anamorphic transfer. Soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround sound in English as well as Dolby Digital Stereo sound in French. Closed captions are also accessible. Special features include an audio commentary track with director Alexander Payne, screenwriter Jim Taylor, production designer Jane Ann Stewart, and actress Laura Dern. Also includes theatrical trailers.

This movie is very funny and is ideal for those seeking a satire on the abortion debate. Alexander Payne directs. Highly recommend.

The music of symphonic Scandanavian metal band Opeth comes to DVD for the first time from Koch Vision Entertainment with Lamentations: Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Presented with a widescreen anamorphic transfer. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and 2.0 Stereo. Includes songs from the albums Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and Damnation. Special features include an hour-long documentary about the making-of the companion releases Deliverance and Damnation, including interviews with band members Mikael Åkerfeldt, Peter Lindgren, Martin Mendez, and Martin Lopez. The DVD was released during Opeth's 2004 North American tour.

Opeth play their entire "Damnation" album and then play few brutally heavy songs. It's a great show. Highly recommended.

This is a great DVD. Filmed in Chicago, this concert chronicles Porcupine Tree at their best. Two songs in particular, "Trains" and "Open Car," are absolutely amazing. "Trains" is played in a different signature key and is an excellent companion piece to its album version. However, "Open Car" adds a heavy riff in its bridge and is a huge improvement over its album version. Highly recommended.

This 2-disc remaster is a worthwhile addition to any music collection. My favorite tracks include "Dislocated Day," "The Moon Touches Your Shoulder" and the alternate 35-minute demo version of the title track. Highly recommended.

It took a few listens to get used to the vocal style used on many of this album's songs, but once I did, this is becoming my second favorite Dream Theater album (after "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence"). My favorite songs are "6:00," "Caught in a Web," "Erotomania," "Voices," "The Mirror" and "Lie." I also have to give a shout-out to "Innocence Faded," "The Silent Man" and "Scarred." Who can forget "Lifting Shadows off a Dream" or "Space-Dye Vest"? Highly recommended.

Having been a fan of their new albums (everything after "Scenes from a Memory") for a few months, I finally got around to hearing their second album, the first with their current lead singer. It's excellent. "Pull Me Under" is great and is probably their most popular song. "Under a Glass Moon" and "Metropolis" are my two favorite songs, and the others are superb as well. Highly recommended.
