I bought this CD on a whim because of its low price and because I loved the new version of the band’s single, “Dance of the Manatee”. I’m truly glad I did. I love every track on the album. The vocals are unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. The lead singer has incredible range and utilizes an odd warbling vibrato that I find quite catchy. I recommend listening to track samples 1. “Dance of the Manatee”, 4. “Wife, Kids and The White Picket Fence”, 8. “Walls Of Jericho, and 11. “Say When” to get an immediate impression; but if you have the time, listen to them all.
The album art is enjoyable. The cover is a booklet of eleven illustrations with the first line of every song at the bottom. They are quite bizarre and I have yet to understand them. I like the unique style of the cover and the booklet art and I believe it echoes the fresh style of the music very well. My one objection is that I wish they had included the song lyrics. Even after listening to the CD for over a month, I still can’t make out what some of the songs are saying. I’m sure they have some deep philosophical meaning.
