Jonathan Liebesman's horror film Darkness Falls makes its debut on DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. English and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include commentary from many of the people involved in the production, deleted scenes, a making-of featurette, and comparisons of storyboards to the finished image. This is a solid release that will please fans of the film as well as genre enthusiasts.

A very dark and gritty good movie

This is a great movie to watch. The plot is everywhere but yet, it still stays with the flow of the movie. If you like gunplay, than this movie has enough to fulfill your rush of shoot'em style. Pure greatness

One of the funniest films of all time, Blazing Saddles, is awarded an excellent 30th anniversary DVD release by Warner Bros., a company that has often shown great care to the important titles in its vault. The film itself is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio. The English soundtrack has been remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1, which makes it seem like one is hearing the infamous farting scene for the very first time. There is a healthy amount of quality extra materials, including a commentary by director Mel Brooks. Although it seems as if he was simply recorded while talking about the film (he never once refers to what is happening onscreen, and the commentary ends only an hour into the film), he recollections are amusing and enlightening. He discusses in detail how the various behind-the-scenes people as well as the cast came together. The other five-star nugget included on this disc is the pilot for the television spin-off Black Bart. Starring Louis Gossett Jr., the show is as amazingly unfunny as the movie is uproarious, but one may be struck by the crudity of the comedy that would have been telecast in the mid-'70s. A making-of documentary and a section from a special on the late great Madeline Kahn help make this DVD a must-own for comedy enthusiasts.

Funniest western ever made

Even though Richard Pryor turned down the lead role, he still stayed on board to co-write and it still was pure greatness. The plot is just ridiculous, and its funny from the beginning to the end. A must have if you like comedies and western

James Mangold's gritty drama Cop Land gets the special edition treatment from Miramax with this release. The film is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. A French soundtrack has been recorded as well. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Mangold, star Sylvester Stallone, supporting player Robert Patrick, and producer Cathy Konrad. Deleted scenes with optional commentary by Mangold round out this strong release from Miramax.

With an All-Star, Copland is a great movie to watch if you like those good cop versus bad cop themes. Not that much gunplay as you might have thought, but its more about the plot and mystery

Hip-hop superstars Nas and DMX star in this streetwise drama, which has been given the deluxe treatment for this Special Edition DVD release. Belly has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The English-language audio is presented in three formats: Dolby Digital Surround, Dolby Digital EX 5.1, and DTS ES 5.1. The disc also features optional subtitles in English and Spanish. Bonus materials include a commentary track from director Hype Williams, deleted scenes, several spoken word segments, a music video for the song "Grand Finale," and a collection of coming attractions trailers. Also included in this package is a bonus audio CD of music from the film.

Great debut

Known for musical videos, Hype Williams finally stopped doing long feature videos & decided to do a grmmy film about two drug dealers, two friends. Not like other drug related movies, Belly takes a different look of two friends caught up in the drug game. With one that wants to keep it going but the other one is thinking about another trade to work at. Great movie to watch, with good gunplay, great plot and a whose who in hip/hop as the cast.

Frank Marshall's adaptation of Congo comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has also been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the original theatrical trailer. This is a decent release from Paramount that boasts excellent sound quality.

Curtis Hanson is such a talented filmmaker, it's really too bad that more content isn't added to his movies on DVD. As with L.A. Confidential, this disc doesn't go far enough. An extensive documentary on the making of this film would have been a real plus, but sadly all that is offered is a nine-minute featurette. As much cast and crew interviews and behind the scenes, as shots from the film, it just doesn't go much further than standard studio PR material. More important, and far longer at around 24 minutes, are actual rap battles put together by the filmmakers to keep the mass of extras actors content during filming. Beyond that is a music tie-in for the soundtracks that takes you to the specific place in the movie for each song, an extremely racy music video for "Superman" from Eminem, the theatrical trailer, and the standard slew of production notes and filmographies. As for the film itself, the sound is a real highlight. Present in 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS tracks (as well as a 5.1 track in French) the audio on this disc is very powerful. Since so much of the film is made up of rap music segments, the bass really takes control. The low frequencies are deep and rich, but dialogue is never indistinguishable. The image, framed at 2.35:1 and anamorphic (there is a separate pan-and-scan version, and both also come in censored and uncensored editions) is a faithful representation of the theatrical print. The transfer is nearly perfect, at least as it's intended to be. Grain is evident, and purposeful, while colors stand out against the dreary backgrounds of Detroit. Whether you are fan of Eminem or not, this film is the Rocky of rap films, and while lacking in significant supplements, the DVD is a knock-out punch.

Whose said white boys couldn't rap

Not really a big difference in the role and the actor/rapper, but Enimen still made a good transition from artist to actor. Yeah the took the screen play from his lyrcis, and Mekhi Phifer's wig was funny looking, but you don't really play attention that. The rapping is the real star of the movie.

I loved this first Underworld movie and was happy to see that sequel was made. The action is better than the first. The plot is better too. The gunplay is pure greatness. This sequel is just better than the first movie and if you liked the first than you would loved this one.

This is what the first should've been like

They finally did this series justice by first making this movie Rated R and than it was just what most fans wanted the first one like, darker and chilling. If I were to have one problem about this movie would be that it reminded me of characters from some of the other Alien movies.
