Francis Ford Coppola's extended version of his classic '70s opus, Apocalypse Now Redux comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials are limited to a theatrical trailer. Regardless of how one feels about the added scenes, there is little argument that Apocalypse Now has ever looked or sounded this good on home video.

Fictional video game superstar Lara Croft comes to this big screen care of actress Angelina Jolie in the action-packed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Paramount has done a great job on this 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer. This is an excellent-looking picture that includes vivd colors, well-rendered detail, and little to no imperfections. Since this is a very new release, it's not surprising that this is a nearly flawless-looking image. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 as well as Dolby 2.0 in English and French. The 5.1 audio track utilizes both the front and rear speakers to maximum effect; this is, by all means, a wonderfully full and bombastic soundtrack. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are crisp and distortion free. Also included on this disc are English subtitles. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is presented in a nice edition that features a vast array of extra features. To start off the disc, there is a commentary track by director Simon West. The director has some strong feelings about the movie, recounts some production difficulties, and often dotes on lead actress Angelina Jolie. Five separate featurettes are included that touch on different aspects of the production, including the stunts, the video game, and the visual effects. Each of these featurettes range in length from about ten minutes to 25 minutes and offer some in-depth insight into the making of the movie. Four deleted scenes are presented in anamorphic widescreen which also include an alternate opening title sequence from the film. A music video for the song "Elevation" by the rock group U2 is included and it's a funny spoof of the movie starring the Edge. Finally there are some DVD-ROM features for viewers with computer access. For fans of rollicking adventure, this is a great DVD that should keep them plenty busy.

The first two-disc set from Paramount, Forrest Gump is a sight to see, and sure to please anyone who understood the real meaning of the film. To begin, the picture quality is about as good as it gets. Framed at the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and anamorphic, the colors are right on (skin tones are especially on target) and the definition is outstanding. Darker areas stand out with the correct shading that goes to show what can be done with careful authoring. The sound, a 5.1 Dolby Digital English track, is also perfectly realized. Though there is only a slim amount of surround material, the track is very forward and forceful, taking advantage, just at the right time, of the deeper bass. Also available is a French surround track and subtitles in English. As for extras, there is no mistaking that this Academy Award-winning film gets the star treatment. The first of the two discs, along with the movie, has two audio commentary tracks. The first is from director Robert Zemeckis, producer Steve Starkey, and production designer Rick Carter. The second commentary is from another of the producers, Wendy Finerman. Neither is screen-specific, but both are, in different ways, filled with a wealth of valuable information. But it is the second disc that houses the majority of the supplemental materials. There you will find a half-hour documentary (originally released on VHS in 1994) called "Through the Eyes of Forrest Gump." There are enough interviews and behind-the-scenes shots to make this better than the standard fluff piece. Next are some shorter featurettes, "The Magic of Makeup," "Through the Ears of Forrest Gump" (made up of five short segments), and "Building the World Of Forrest Gump -- Production Design." Eleven visual effects discussions, including two scenes that were excised from the film, are the highlight of the extras. Visual effects producer Ken Ralston and his team talk in depth about the multitude of effects shots used in the film. Finally, this disc features a decent photo gallery, some wonderful (though short) screen tests, and a couple of trailers. This is a wonderful DVD set for a memorable movie, certainly worthy of any collection.

Mimic Staring The Voluptuous Mira Sorvino is a horrifying Thriller that will keep you jumping until the Very end. I'm not a big fan of Horror movies but this is one of the Exceptions. I think that this Horror movie is put together very well.

John Sturges' World War II thriller The Eagle Has Landed comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. Wackiness ensues in the super comedy Super Troopers. Fox's work on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer is excellent save for a small amount of edge enhancement in the image. Overall, the colors, fleshtones, and black levels are all very solid and clear. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and French, as well as Dolby 2.0 Surround in Spanish. While the film doesn't utilize a vast array of directional effects (except in a few key scenes), the bulk of this 5.1 mix if free of any excessive hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc are English, French, and Spanish subtitles. The extra features on Super Troopers are bountiful, starting with two commentary tracks: the first by director/actor Jay Chandrasekhar and actor Erik Stolhanske and a second by actors Kevin Heffernan, Paul Soter, and Steve Lemme. Both commentaries are filled with many humorous stories, anecdotes, and thoughts about the film's production and history. A series of outtakes and deleted scenes are broken up unto four different sections and should please fans looking for more gags and jokes in the vein of the film. Finally, there is a very fluffy making-of featurette, a "Road Trip Newswrap" that follows the comedy troupe on the road, and theatrical trailers for the film.

Wisecracking Detroit cop Axel Foley begins his adventures in the action/comedy hit Beverly Hills Cop. Paramount has done a nice job of cleaning up this 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen print. While some grain and imperfections abound, overall this is a good-looking transfer with minimal edge enhancement and bright-looking colors. The audio is presented in a newly mixed Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack in English, as well as Dolby 2.0 in English and French. The new 5.1 soundtrack is passable, though it's mainly composer Harold Faultermeyer's techno-pop score that is filtered through the front and rear speakers. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are distortion free and very clear. Also included on this disc are subtitles in English. This is a "special collector's edition" of Beverly Hills Cop, and as such includes some interesting special features. To start with, there is a commentary track by director Martin Brest that is both informative and insightful (with only a few gaps of dead silence during the feature). "Beverly Hills Cop: The Phenomenon Begins" is a somewhat self-serving documentary that includes interviews with Martin Brest, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, writer Daniel Petrie Jr., and actors Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, and in a limited fashion, Eddie Murphy. This retrospective is interesting, though many of the participants tend to dote on star Eddie Murphy a bit too much. "A Glimpse Into the Casting Process" is a short piece of how the film was cast, and "The Music of Beverly Hills Cop" takes a look at what it took to get both the music score and famous rock songs into the movie. Finally, there is a location map with production information by designer Angelo Graham, a limited still gallery with stills and photos from the movie, and a theatrical trailer for the film. This may not be the definitive DVD of Beverly Hills Cop, but it should please fans in general.

Beverly Hills Cop is a hilarious and entertaining movie about a Detroit cop that goes to Beverly hills to investigate his friends murder. While Searching for the killer he stumbles on a couple of police officers that are living by the book. All in all this was a great movie.
