Surprisingly, one of the best soundtracks in years

I don't buy a lot of soundtracks, and while I generally have a high opinion of Mark Snow's work on the X-Files series and the first movie, I confess at times I have thought he was overrated. No so here.
Much to my surprise, this is one of the most beautiful scores I've ever heard, and most of the tracks hold up extremely well to regular listening outside of the film itself (a particular standout that comes to mind is "The Surgery").
Mark Snow has truly outdone himself here - especially for fans of the franchise, who I think should agree that he has really captured the best part of its essence.
What's great about it: Very melodic, with a haunting, eerie-yet-soothing quality that's perfect for the X-Files, but also stands up on its own
What's not so great: Nothing, though if I had to gripe about something, I would request some liner notes from Mark Snow about the work.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good, not great.

I'm a huge Alice Cooper fan and decided to purchase this CD because of him and Joe Perry. No new songs...just covers.

There are a few new songs...

Hate to split hairs, but there ARE new songs — "Raise the Dead" and "My Dead Drunk Friends" (plus the Christopher Lee track, depending on how you want to classify that).
