This is a classic 70's Black Sabbath record, but unique to the Ozzy-era Sabbath catalog in that it was their most pointed attempt at instrumental experimentation. Bringing Yes master keyboardist, Rick Wakeman, on board for co-production and to add synthesizers to the Sabbath sound, this is a very interesting sonic departure for the inventors of heavy-metal music. Though this record is not on the same plateau as their all-time classic "Paranoid", the usual life & death themes are still there in the lyrics and the band's overall performance is vintage 70's Sabbath at the height of their powers. This re-mixed re-release is worth a listen too.

For those who prefer a more "organic" sound to their hard rock and heavy metal, Red Fang is among the rising crop of neo-garage rockers (like Rival Sons and The Sword). The simple instrumentation of 'guitar/bass/drums', the 70's-style analog recording method and the looseness of their playing make this unvarnished sound so appealing in this age of "high tech recorded music". Although I like Red Fang and this release is pretty good, it's not my absolute favorite among these kinds of bands.

Suffice it to say that Animals As Leaders are currently among the leading torch-bearers of what is often called "Progressive Metal". But what's even more impressive is that their records strictly instrumental (no vocals). To be able to do this without the messaging power of a lead vocalist is cause for taking notice (to those who haven't noticed them yet). This is because their musicianship is exceptional, their arrangements are complex and interesting, and the overall playing as a unit is just amazing. These guys can truly play. Since radio airplay is a non-starter (as is the case for most metal acts), they rely on record sales and touring, which is just fine because it showcases what they do best and are probably most happy doing anyway. The best thing to do if this review peaks your interest is to just listen to them and you'll get the drift. Very few artists can maintain a career in this kind of music doing strictly instrumentals. Joe Satriani (in his solo work) is probably the most prominent and arguably the most successful artist over the past 25 years to accomplish this. Animals As Leaders are on that course now and this new release is musically among their heaviest and most ambitious. Highly recommended.

This big screen HD TV by LG has an excellent and precise picture quality and is easy to set up. It also is a great value because it cost less than comparable models by Sony and Samsung. We're very satisfied with this LG flat-screen TV.

Great band, continuing to put out quality metal

Of course, anyone who was a fan of Creed at the dawn of the new millennium, would know that Alter Bridge consists of three-quarters of Creed, but with a different lead singer. That lead singer, Myles Kennedy, is an excellent lead singer who also plays proficient guitar himself. But this is certainly not "Creed - Part 2". The musical arrangements and song themes are different. This is evident in the touch of some exotic key signatures here and there. There are no "anthems" per se (as was characteristic of Creed's biggest hits). But make no mistake. The songs are still memorable and perhaps just more interesting. The band still rocks heavily and the limited edition holographic CD cover is a nice packaging plus. Alter Bridge already has several releases out there, including a live CD/DVD set.

This group is made up of contributing musicians who may change from one record to the next, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I bought because this release featured the skills of one of my favorite drummers, Mike Portnoy. The group rocks and the playing is still really good and tight. But I just wasn't too wild about the songwriting. I think there could have been more depth there.
