Up-Grade
on May 11, 2017
Posted by: Mykal
from USA
In the process of my up-grade
for the front 3 speakers of my 7.1
surround system.
My 1st upgrade was the BIC F12 Sub-Woofer
then I built 2 Klipsch SF-1 Towers for the
front Left & Right channels.
Found them at a rummage sale for $25.
That was for the pair!
I then bought hybrid replacement drivers
for the deteriorated cones that were still in
the speaker boxes.
With those fixed & calibrated into their respective
spots?
I now await the arrival of the Pioneer Center speaker
to replace my Panasonic MTM style Center speaker.
Its a great little center speaker but it's time to upgrade
it too, so the Pioneer's on it's way.
I give it a tentative 5 stars, as I know Andrew Jones
designs pure magic.
I'll update this next week after I receive & install the
new Pioneer Center speaker.

THE REAL DEAL !

This BIC F12 is the Real Deal!
This is the sub-woofer you've been seeking.
It delivers real tactile bass at low or high volume.
Never distorts or bottoms out when you blast it.
As a recording artist, I've been exposed to many subs
and this sub-woofer is the best 12 inch sub I've heard
for under a $1000.
Price is amazing too!
You just cannot buy a better sub-woofer for this price.
I bought mine last week & have had it hooked up for
3 days now.
It's 100% the Real Deal!

Sharp Aquos vs LD LED Razor
on February 3, 2017
Posted by: Mykal
from USA
I just bought my Aquos 2 weeks ago
& am enjoying it.
It was a clinch buy.
By that I mean, my other TV burnt out
& I needed to replace it.
My LG 3D LED TV was magic in performance
and lasted 5 years.
It's 3D & standard 1080p picture was unmatched.
Alas, it burnt out!
And on my birthday weekend too.
Needless to say, I was shocked & bummed.
That TV was the gem of my Home Theater.
47 inches of pristine HD 3D TV performance.
That being said, I scrambled to find a TV to
replace it, within my budget.
Which was tight by the way, as Christmas just passed.
With a tiny budget of $300 I hoped the new year returns
would provide me a value to choose from.
I was wrong.
Everything was sky high with the advent of 4K TV's.
Then I scanned Best Buy online to see if my Budget
would buy me a TV there?
My minimum screen size was 47 inches & up.
The choices that weekend at Best Buy in my budget
was a Toshiba 55 inch $299
WestingHouse 50 inch $245
Sharp Aquos 50 inch $299
After talking with saleswoman Jocelynn?
She sold me on the Aquos LC-50LB481U.
It's not an LED Razor nor is it 3D.
But it is a FHD (Full HD) Aquos 50 inch ROKU TV.
It's true Wi-Fi with ROKU, Full Comprehensive Search,
true powerful mobile apps too.
Hey, get this?
This Aquos TV has a pause rewind fast forward feature
that allows you to do just that when watching broadcast TV.
So, you can pause your show for up to 90 minutes.
Watching football?
You can pause the play, rewind it to review it, just like
the booth does. LOL. Very cool feature indeed.
Now, performance:
I've been spoiled by my LG Cinema Series 47 inch 3D TV
for over 5 years, so, the Aquos LCD 50 inch will have to do
some real magic in order to rival the LG.
1st off, the new Aquos is not 3D.
That sucks, but is expected at $299.
2nd, the screen size is 3 inches larger, that rocks!
Yes, the 3 inches is noticeable.
Now, the LCD vs LED picture competition is on.
The Aquos LCD picture is not as good off axis.
Dead center, the picture is Great!
Seated off to the side (which nobody does) the picture
gets abit lighter.
But, as I said, nobody's gonna sit that far off axis.
The colors are great but I'd give the LG LED Razor
the edge on that win.
Also, the LG LED suffers NO picture degrade off axis.
The Aquos does have better HD fine detail without
travel distortion.
So, true motion modes are not needed nor are they
offered on this model.
Aquos I noticed seeing better, finer details on movies in my library,
that I haven't seen on the LG LED set.
Example:
A scene in a popular NatGeo Alaska TV series showed a
fishing boat with screens on its windows and the Aquos
delivered each strand of the screens, whereas the LG did not.
The sound on the Aquos set is posted to support & deliver
DTS Tru-Surround & Dolby Digital.
It's 2 speakers actually deliver a convincing, immersive,
surround sound experience, when calibrated properly.
If you were to hookup a subwoofer to the TV's output?
it'd be more than good enough stereo sound for most folks.
I have a full 7.1 setup so I won't use this unless I'm
viewing late night programs.
The overall Aquos picture is seductive.
Very Very good.
At $299 you'd be hard pressed to find a better
HD TV in the 50 inch Class.
Again, to get an Aquos 50 inch 1080p FHD TV
for $299 is unbelievable.
This Aquos purchase buys me time to save up for the
LG OLED 4K 3D TV that I really want.
The 55 inch, LG OLED 3D Tv, is the best TV ever made, IMO, up to
this point and time.
Obviously, it can be bought in larger sizes.
But in most homes, 55 inches of 4K OLED 3D is
more than big enough.
In fact, the Best Buy display of the LG OLED 55 inch TV
was intoxicating!
It looked 3D without being 3D.
So far, Best Buy has been the go to, unbeatable store,
to buy what I've needed.
I am absolutely, HAPPY. that Best Buy had a TV in stock,
that met my budget & performance requirements.
All in all?
I'm giving the Sharp Aquos 5 ***** stars for it's
price vs performance.
I'd recommend this Sharp Aquos to anyone who's
serious about Home Theater and great, clean, HD performance.
This TV truly delivers the goods.
It's 1080p picture is noticeably better than 720p HD sets.
With this Aquos TV, you can see the difference between a
720p HD broadcast picture vs a 1080p picture.
Again, for $299, good luck trying to find a 50 inch TV set that
beats this Sharp Aquos.
So, if you're like me, finding yourself with a tight budget
and in need of a bigscreen TV?
This Sharp Aquos is a Fantastic deal.
It feels like I'm stealing it from Best Buy for this price.
In Closing:
Only time will tell, if the new set holds up or blows up.
In today's market?
Most name Brands like
SHARP
LG
SONY
SAMSUNG
will last for years to come.
So, when I finally have my budget for the LG 4k 3D OLED TV?
This Sharp Aquos will be retired to my bedroom.
Hope this review helps others to make a soild purchase.
~ peace

LOOKOUT!

Posted by: Mykal
Hey Look?
$199 for a 7.2 channel Surround sound receiver?
And it's a Sony?
Look at the power ratings too!
Add to that, this AV has Dolby True & DTS-HDMA decoding.
What more could anyone ask for?
How can anybody complain about this Sony unit?
Guarantee this unit will sound just as good as any other
unit when you get it home.
A 7.2 AV used to cost a wad of cash.
Now, with the changing market?
Deals like this arise.
If I were starting a Home Theater?
I'd jump on this buy ASAP!
Look at this?
It's got true stereo subwoofer outs.
That's unheard of at this price.
I'll close with this:
In our homes, 7.2 Dolby True Digital or DTS-HDMA decoding
purely rocks!
All you'll need is decent speakers.
Because this Sony's got POWER!

Solid Sounding Speakers
By SteveK
I got these S15 speakers for my Dad's audio system. Made a ho-hum system into well sounding system. Sound reproduction is petty good. Don't get the watered down series that are below these (S10?). Spend the extra bucks and you will be happy. To me, the S10? just don't have depth and range like the S15 do. The S15 sounded so much better (at least in the store) than the S10?.

STEVE K ..THANKS!
April 18, 2017
Thanks Steve K.,
I'm rolling into a Best Buy tomorrow & was considering
this POLK Signature Line.
Your advice to forgo the S10's & just get the S15's
is the answer to the question that was on my mind.
I need to upgrade my front Left and Right speakers
in my 7.1 surround setup.
I'm currently running Panasonic 2 way satellites
(made for Panasonic by Harman Kardon)
but they are 12 years old and don't play at all
below 100 hz.
In the frequency test?
Noise generator ran thru my front Left & Right satellites
revealed that they did not reproduce "any" signals below
100 hz region.
My Panasonic center performs really good tho, as its a
D'Apollito design with a true "ring radiator" tweeter.
Since the center channel rests atop my BIC F12 sub-woofer,
the lower freq's aren't perceived as missing for the center.
That brings me to the POLK S15's.
The S15's, I feel, may be the perfect upgrade for my L & R's.
My room is only 12x12 feet so floor space is at a premium.
All my speakers have to be hung on mounts.
Another plus for the POLK S15's as they can be wall mounted
without degrading the sound.
My 12x12 room is decked with beechwood & pine cabinets,
end tables & trims.
So the wood appearance of the S15's will gel nicely.
Anyway, thanks for your review as it got me closer to making
a choice for my speaker upgrade.
I wanted ELAC B5's but Best Buy is sold out currently.
So, tomorrow i'll see what Best Buy has instore (pardon the pun).

You bought the speaker knowing it's design, yet you gave
it only 2 out of 5 stars?
What didn't the speaker do that made you gave it 2 out of 5 stars?
For under $100, made of real wood & a 6 element crossover,
what more for the money can you ask for?
I just bought this Pioneer C22 & am waiting for it's arrival.
Knowing that Pioneer sells only this C22 in that line, says Pioneer
has confidence in it as an effective center speaker.
I know Pioneer makes the Elite Center for $200 more, but, does
it sound $200 better?
Moreover, in most homes, this C22 speaker, if powered right,
will play cleanly at ear bleeding levels.
So, why the 2 stars?

UPDATE!
May 22, 2017
I've now had this Pioneer Center speaker hooked up
& calibrated into my 7.1 system.
I drove it especially hard during the new edition of
Star Trek: Wrath Of Khan on Blu Ray
this speaker remained warm & accurate.
No distorting, squeaking or honking.
This Center speaker is as good as it gets.
I pushed the speaker at theatrical volume levels
& it responded without complaint.
In most "home" environments, these Andrew Jones
designed speakers will run with the big boys!
I power mine with a Yamaha 7.1 AV at 105 wpc.

outperforms our local Cinema by far.

Enuff said.

RE: Perfect Entry Level?
May 25, 2017
Hi Just Waldo,
I've been breaking in my new Pioneer C22 Center speaker for over 10 tens now
in my 7.1 surround system.
This speaker has been pushed hard the past few days with films like..
EXPENDABLES 3, LONDON HAS FALLEN, WRATH OF KHAN (NEWLY REMASTERED DIRECTOR'S CUT), etc..
the louder I push the volume the better this unit performs.
Even my Lady loves it.
I firmly believe this Center speaker is as good as it gets for any home system.
After we calibrated our newly upgraded speaker setup?
We, for the 1st time, "heard" that Theater quality, center sound delivery.
The Expendables at 1 point made me forget I was at home.
My Yamaha 105 w.p.c. 7.1 AV Receiver drove the 7 speakers to 90db
without even getting warm to the touch.
Trust me, The Expendables 3 will throw down the demand for power.
I have a BIC F12 sub-woofer carrying the 60hz freq's & below.
This Andrew Jones Center speaker is most excellent!
$99 & free delivery too.
My reply was to say,
IMHO this center speaker is far better than entry level.
Send real world 100 w.p.c. into it or more & it comes alive.
I dunno about the SP-SF52 Towers as I don't own a pair.
But, I can say with confidence, from over 25 yrs of HT experience,
after proper calibration?
This speaker's the real deal!
Finally, our 12x2 ft. Home Theater room actually sounds like a
commercial Cinema.
If I had the wall space?
I'd buy the matching BS-22's, but, they're too big for my room.
If my refurbed Klipsch towers take a dump?
I'll buy the matching Pioneer Towers for the stereo front pair.
My current Towers were found at a yard sale for $25 yes $25 .
They were ofcourse, BLOWN!
So, I took it upon myself to restore them.
They turned out great!
Hoping this comment inspires those entering into Home Theater
or Hi-Fi for the 1st time to go for it!
Just remember...

Quality and Value equals great sounds
By Icyrhoades
I purchased 2 pair of these SP-FS52, the center channel SP-C22 and a pair of the rear bookshelf speakers SP-BS22-LR along with the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX301 receiver and a pair of 100 watt subs SW-8mk. After wiring all this up in a 12X16 room It was time to turn it on. Sound was spectacular. Made some speaker placement adjustments and did the microphone test. After that it sounded even better. After about 30 hours to listening at low levels I finally cranked it up. The receiver pumps out massive power and this 7.2 system is more than I expected. Everything is on point. I watched one of my favorites Saving Private Ryan I knew the 1,500 plus dollars I spent with Best Buy was the best purchase I made in 2016. I recommend any and all these Pioneer Andrew Jones designed speakers and subs to anyone on a budget or not. Great sound quality and the value is unbelievable.

I read your review.
Very good!
You mentioned using the mic calibration method?
If its the type that uses built in program like YPAO or Audessy etc..?
You'll need to go into your AV Receiver's menu and turn off the
PEQ setting that the program no doubt uses & activated.
The PEQ setting they leave you set in, almost always soften
the sound too much.
More than likely you already knew this and activated the GEQ
& EQ'd the speakers to tonally match as close as possible.
Also, make sure the actual parameters the PEQ set are right.
Example:
Did it set your Center speaker at 10 feet away when your speaker
is really 6 feet?
Did it set your speaker setting to Large when it should be small?
These things really occur.
So, always double check your menu settings after running any
auto mic setup program.
If you already know this?
Please disregard my remarks & forgive me.
However, if you weren't aware, you'll be thankful I gave you the
hints about auto mic setup programs.

How do I connect to my stereo? Can I use 16 gauge wire? Where online can I find the installation manual? Thanks!

Yes, 16 gauge will work for short runs.
I use standard lamp cord or zip cord
bought at hardware store off a spool.
It's cheaper, way thicker & is perfect for runs
longer than 20 feet.
Oh & a manual isn't needed.
