Up-Grade
on May 11, 2017
Posted by: Mykal
from USA
In the process of my up-grade
for the front 3 speakers of my 7.1
surround system.
My 1st upgrade was the BIC F12 Sub-Woofer
then I built 2 Klipsch SF-1 Towers for the
front Left & Right channels.
Found them at a rummage sale for $25.
That was for the pair!
I then bought hybrid replacement drivers
for the deteriorated cones that were still in
the speaker boxes.
With those fixed & calibrated into their respective
spots?
I now await the arrival of the Pioneer Center speaker
to replace my Panasonic MTM style Center speaker.
Its a great little center speaker but it's time to upgrade
it too, so the Pioneer's on it's way.
I give it a tentative 5 stars, as I know Andrew Jones
designs pure magic.
I'll update this next week after I receive & install the
new Pioneer Center speaker.

THE REAL DEAL !

This BIC F12 is the Real Deal!
This is the sub-woofer you've been seeking.
It delivers real tactile bass at low or high volume.
Never distorts or bottoms out when you blast it.
As a recording artist, I've been exposed to many subs
and this sub-woofer is the best 12 inch sub I've heard
for under a $1000.
Price is amazing too!
You just cannot buy a better sub-woofer for this price.
I bought mine last week & have had it hooked up for
3 days now.
It's 100% the Real Deal!

Sharp Aquos vs LD LED Razor
on February 3, 2017
Posted by: Mykal
from USA
I just bought my Aquos 2 weeks ago
& am enjoying it.
It was a clinch buy.
By that I mean, my other TV burnt out
& I needed to replace it.
My LG 3D LED TV was magic in performance
and lasted 5 years.
It's 3D & standard 1080p picture was unmatched.
Alas, it burnt out!
And on my birthday weekend too.
Needless to say, I was shocked & bummed.
That TV was the gem of my Home Theater.
47 inches of pristine HD 3D TV performance.
That being said, I scrambled to find a TV to
replace it, within my budget.
Which was tight by the way, as Christmas just passed.
With a tiny budget of $300 I hoped the new year returns
would provide me a value to choose from.
I was wrong.
Everything was sky high with the advent of 4K TV's.
Then I scanned Best Buy online to see if my Budget
would buy me a TV there?
My minimum screen size was 47 inches & up.
The choices that weekend at Best Buy in my budget
was a Toshiba 55 inch $299
WestingHouse 50 inch $245
Sharp Aquos 50 inch $299
After talking with saleswoman Jocelynn?
She sold me on the Aquos LC-50LB481U.
It's not an LED Razor nor is it 3D.
But it is a FHD (Full HD) Aquos 50 inch ROKU TV.
It's true Wi-Fi with ROKU, Full Comprehensive Search,
true powerful mobile apps too.
Hey, get this?
This Aquos TV has a pause rewind fast forward feature
that allows you to do just that when watching broadcast TV.
So, you can pause your show for up to 90 minutes.
Watching football?
You can pause the play, rewind it to review it, just like
the booth does. LOL. Very cool feature indeed.
Now, performance:
I've been spoiled by my LG Cinema Series 47 inch 3D TV
for over 5 years, so, the Aquos LCD 50 inch will have to do
some real magic in order to rival the LG.
1st off, the new Aquos is not 3D.
That sucks, but is expected at $299.
2nd, the screen size is 3 inches larger, that rocks!
Yes, the 3 inches is noticeable.
Now, the LCD vs LED picture competition is on.
The Aquos LCD picture is not as good off axis.
Dead center, the picture is Great!
Seated off to the side (which nobody does) the picture
gets abit lighter.
But, as I said, nobody's gonna sit that far off axis.
The colors are great but I'd give the LG LED Razor
the edge on that win.
Also, the LG LED suffers NO picture degrade off axis.
The Aquos does have better HD fine detail without
travel distortion.
So, true motion modes are not needed nor are they
offered on this model.
Aquos I noticed seeing better, finer details on movies in my library,
that I haven't seen on the LG LED set.
Example:
A scene in a popular NatGeo Alaska TV series showed a
fishing boat with screens on its windows and the Aquos
delivered each strand of the screens, whereas the LG did not.
The sound on the Aquos set is posted to support & deliver
DTS Tru-Surround & Dolby Digital.
It's 2 speakers actually deliver a convincing, immersive,
surround sound experience, when calibrated properly.
If you were to hookup a subwoofer to the TV's output?
it'd be more than good enough stereo sound for most folks.
I have a full 7.1 setup so I won't use this unless I'm
viewing late night programs.
The overall Aquos picture is seductive.
Very Very good.
At $299 you'd be hard pressed to find a better
HD TV in the 50 inch Class.
Again, to get an Aquos 50 inch 1080p FHD TV
for $299 is unbelievable.
This Aquos purchase buys me time to save up for the
LG OLED 4K 3D TV that I really want.
The 55 inch, LG OLED 3D Tv, is the best TV ever made, IMO, up to
this point and time.
Obviously, it can be bought in larger sizes.
But in most homes, 55 inches of 4K OLED 3D is
more than big enough.
In fact, the Best Buy display of the LG OLED 55 inch TV
was intoxicating!
It looked 3D without being 3D.
So far, Best Buy has been the go to, unbeatable store,
to buy what I've needed.
I am absolutely, HAPPY. that Best Buy had a TV in stock,
that met my budget & performance requirements.
All in all?
I'm giving the Sharp Aquos 5 ***** stars for it's
price vs performance.
I'd recommend this Sharp Aquos to anyone who's
serious about Home Theater and great, clean, HD performance.
This TV truly delivers the goods.
It's 1080p picture is noticeably better than 720p HD sets.
With this Aquos TV, you can see the difference between a
720p HD broadcast picture vs a 1080p picture.
Again, for $299, good luck trying to find a 50 inch TV set that
beats this Sharp Aquos.
So, if you're like me, finding yourself with a tight budget
and in need of a bigscreen TV?
This Sharp Aquos is a Fantastic deal.
It feels like I'm stealing it from Best Buy for this price.
In Closing:
Only time will tell, if the new set holds up or blows up.
In today's market?
Most name Brands like
SHARP
LG
SONY
SAMSUNG
will last for years to come.
So, when I finally have my budget for the LG 4k 3D OLED TV?
This Sharp Aquos will be retired to my bedroom.
Hope this review helps others to make a soild purchase.

Hey Look?
$199 for a 7.2 channel Surround sound receiver?
And it's a Sony?
Look at the power ratings too!
Add to that, this AV has Dolby True & DTS-HDMA decoding.
What more could anyone ask for?
How can anybody complain about this Sony unit?
Guarantee this unit will sound just as good as any other
unit when you get it home.
A 7.2 AV used to cost a wad of cash.
Now, with the changing market?
Deals like this arise.
If I were starting a Home Theater?
I'd jump on this buy ASAP!
Look at this?
It's got true stereo subwoofer outs.
That's unheard of at this price.
I'll close with this:
In our homes, 7.2 Dolby True Digital or DTS-HDMA decoding
purely rocks!
All you'll need is decent speakers.
Because this Sony's got POWER!

Beautiful picture, excellent SMART interface
By Auspex
LG really did themselves proud on this one. I've been doing LG TV's for the past several years, and have kind of hated their SMART interface. Well, this TV fixed all that. It's easy to navigate, intuitive and rather nice looking.
As for the TV's picture, well, all I can say is WOW! In UHD, it's just beautiful. It's like having a window into whatever you are watching like it was real life. The 3D is also fantastic. Given LG's passive 3D capability (no powered glasses), you lose some resolution, but on this TV, you'd never even know.
My only issue, as with every LG TV I've bought, the SIMPLINK isn't always as reliable as I would like. But I'm used to that so it doesn't remove any stars.

LG Passive 3D Picture Quality
October 18, 2016
I've seen folks under false ideas about 3D picture superiority.
Passive 3D uses non-powered glasses & is far suprior to active 3D which uses powered glasses.
Moreover, LG 3D TV's also convert non-3D video into 3D & does it very well too!
So, if you own a passive 3D TV?
You chose right!

November 17, 2016
Your amplifier's not powerful enough if the Pioneer's
are distorting at high volume.
Or the impedance is wrong.
These speakers never distort at high volume
unless there's a failure within the equipment
or the setup itself.
Re-check your wiring & make sure your amp
or AV is capable & setup to handle 6-0hm lads.
These towers are 6-0hm impedance.
Hope that helps?

This TV is studio complimentary quality aka the real deal.
If your blacks aren't true on your set?
Then your picture's not been optimized.
No diss on you, I see many reviewers that make statements
about black levels on some TV's & I hafta wonder if they've
used the recommended setup standard for their TV.
Most likely...not.
I mean no disrespect to you.
Before giving up on any monitor, always try using the setup
standards set by the industry.
Doing this, may save you money & bring the realization
that your TV set rocks!
This particular 75 inch LG TV is the best 3D TV in it's class.
2nd to none.

Excellent speakers for the money
By TomC
These speakers are perfect for my surround system and I use them for my primary rear speakers. I am thinking of getting another pair for my surround back speakers to compliment my Yamaha system to fully utilize my 7.1 Digital Dolby Prologic IIz decoder. Although I have JBL front speakers and a Sony center speaker, the quality of the Yamaha speakers is perfect and these speakers are the perfect add-on. They have a more robust sound than the smaller rear surround speakers I've tested. I may even get a third pair for my other receiver. For the money and for a Yamaha brand, this item cannot be beat.

Dolby Surround Sound
December 15, 2016
These speakers have been around for quite some time.
Famous for garage speakers etc.
However, I believe they may be decent for the
front 3 channels in a Dolby surround sound system.
They're not the greatest for precision playback of music,
but, they're strong enough for movie sound tracks.
In Fact?
If a person were to properly place them as the front
Left Center and Right speakers, they may end up
with a powerhouse entry level home theater setup.
The price is cheap enough for sure.
Yamaha makes fantastic AV Receivers, so I'd think
these speakers will be a winner to use in concert with a
Yamaha AV surround sound receiver.

Save Your Money?
December 22, 2016
RE: WJAMESRAPP199
I read you review & it left me stumped.
BOSE is only compatible with itself.
There isn't a audio product out there that's
meant to be ran by an AV receiver that this Yamaha AV
will not run.
Your BOSE speakers should hookup to the Yamaha AV
just like any other speakers do.
Unless your BOSE speakers are hard wired to a BOSE unit.
At any rate, you returned the Yamaha AV for a reason which
doesn't add up.
You'd a been better off returning the BOSE.
Their cubes are nothing but PC speakers in a plastic box.
Pure gimmick!
No insult intended to you & I mean that.
I am sorry every time I read a review of a BOSE speaker owner.
Why?
I used to be one.
For the price of the $2K BOSE home theater system?
You can buy a real JBL cinema package that will rock your world.
Fact.
If you can?
Sell those BOSE and use the money to buy real speakers
& get that Yamaha AV back.
You'll thank me.

These are ok entry level speakers
By Souppyy
I tried out this entire line of bookshelf and center channel speakers in my 5.1 HT setup. At first I liked them, but then I decided to try some Klipsch Reference Premiere speakers (RP150M/RP450C) and within 5 minutes of hooking up the Klipsch had boxed up the Polks to return them back. Unimpressed when compared to something of higher quality. Do your homework and spend just a bit more money, you won't be disappointed. Polk Signature are entry level speakers. You can do a lot better for just a small amount more money, and have many more options (e.g, Klipsch Reference Premiere Lineup has Dolby Atmos options, surround speakers, multiple bookshelf, centers, subwoofer, and floorstanding options that are all timber matched).

You already know that ads post claims that aren't exactly accurate nor truthful.
Knowing this, I went to Best Buy and took alittle time with the sales tech
who was bright & savvy too.
I was gonna buy a Toshiba 55 inch 1080p for same price but she warned me off.
Said, the Toshiba fell far short of the Sharp TV.
My plan's to buy a solid 1080p HD TV til I save up for the LG 3D 4K OLED TV.
She recommended this Sharp model.
My question to you is:
What IS the difference between this model vs the "Aquos" ?
In reality, good is good, right?
But, you piqued my interest when you brought to light that this model isn't
an "Aquos".
I did see that both units are Liquid Crystal Display, but, this unit has LED backlighting
and I don't believe the original "Aquos" has the LED backlighting.
Any light (pardon the pun) you can shed on this question is appreciated.
Thanks a ton!

Sharp Aquos vs LD LED Razor
By Mykal from USA

370ZZTOP,
February 6, 2017
Hi again 370ZZTOP,
the manufacturer shows no intent to market an AQUOS model that does not comply
or meet needed requirements.
So, unless they plan on not sticking to AQUOS blueprints?
The TV's labeled AQUOS will be true AQUOS in every way barring newer better tech inside.
I'm not a fan of names nor brands, but I do expect performance to be on par
with the award wining model it's touted to be.
At any rate, this AQUOS LC-50LB481U TV's the best TV at $299.
My LG 3D TV it replaced is a killer LED Razor, but, the straight 1080p performance on this
Sharp TV is an edge better.
Keep me posted 370ZZTOP if you happen to learn that the new manufacturer is shading
the AQUOS design ok?
Thanks for the info as it opened my eyes to the fact that Sharp has been sold.

Watch favorite programs in Ultra HD with this LG smart TV. Its 4K resolution provides image clarity and brilliance, and its 4K upscaler optimally enhances the quality of lower-resolution video content for a near Ultra HD viewing experience. Use the webOS 3.0 system and Magic Mobile connection to your smartphone to perform various tasks on this 50-inch LG smart TV.

Hi Ernesto,
you didn't tell us shoppers why you dislike this TV.
How can we make a decision based on your review
if you don't say what was bad or good aka Pros-Cons?
Thx!

Enjoy high-quality audio with this Pioneer SP-FS52 floor speaker that features three 5-1/4" polypropylene woofers and oversize magnets for powerful bass and a 1" soft dome tweeter that delivers dynamic highs.

How do I connect to my stereo? Can I use 16 gauge wire? Where online can I find the installation manual? Thanks!

Yes, 16 gauge will work for short runs.
I use standard lamp cord or zip cord
bought at hardware store off a spool.
It's cheaper, way thicker & is perfect for runs
longer than 20 feet.
Oh & a manual isn't needed.
The back of the SP-SF52 Tower speaker
has it's specs and info listed on a tag.
