Great Film

Wild africa looks 4k great and is very similar in style as the planet earth movies. Tiny giants tell stories of a mouse and another of a squirrel, and the 4k isnt as good because its shot at night conditions, but the story is really cool and engaging. Wolf mouse vs scorpian is cool. Each segment is about 40min.

Great but overpriced
on November 20, 2016
Posted by: Annonymous
It seems overpriced because its really not that necessary for bass. The soundbar itself has plenty of bass. I actually had to lower the bass level on the sub. The sub is still pretty loud with very deep lows, however I think the board of the enclosure should have been thicker because it doesnt sound very solid. Although its very heavy, it doesnt seem very sturdy for its unique design, meaning the hole in the middle makes the air pressure inside less uniform causing "turbulence" inside the box.
Comparison: Interesting appearance, but the Bose acoustimass sub sounds better and deeper.

Best Soundbar out there
on November 20, 2016
Posted by: Annonymous
Review for sounbar only, but with the sub is great also.
PROS: (outweigh cons)
-No ethernet cable needed for setup.
-Wifi connection to phone app is very convenient, but the navigation isnt too simple.
-Night mode, and voice mode for TV.
-Equalizer adjustment of treble/bass
-Has big bass without need for the separate sub, especially if in a small room
-A+ for highs and midrange frequencies. A- for lows.
CONS:
-No separate remote for volume control. Didnt work w/ my 2015 LG magic remote, but does with xfinity remote.
-No HDMI connection, but really not needed for just 5.1 sound. BUT what happens if optical input breaks? get warranty..
-No Blutooth.. BUT according to manual, its not needed. Theres a way to connect phone directly to soundbar without blutooth or even an internet connection.
-Easier to setup and use, and better sounding than the Bose 300.
-Soundbar is too tall, so i had to tilt back sideways so it wont block my TV screen(but no difference in sound quality!)
-Not visually appealing like the Bose 300, but still puts out!
Side notes: The SUB setup procedure didnt work through phone app, only through my pc. Judging only on sound quality, I had the bose300 and sony st9, and sonos wins it.

The SoundTouch® 300 soundbar looks slim. But the sound? Anything but. That’s because every cubic inch of it is packed with technologies that make everything you listen to or watch sound clear and spacious. It starts inside with custom-shaped speakers that keep the profile low and pump out big sound. QuietPort™ technology virtually eliminates distortion so you hear surprisingly deep bass. And Bose® PhaseGuide® technology makes you believe you’re hearing sounds where there are no speakers. On the outside, the glass top and perforated wrap-around metal grille make the soundbar look as good in your room as it sounds. And with both Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® technology built in, you can wirelessly stream music any way you prefer. ADAPTiQ® audio room calibration from Bose ensures the soundbar sounds the best it can in the space you put it. HDMI™ connectivity with 4K pass-through keeps your system compatible with the most current technology. NFC provides quick and easy pairing. The SoundTouch® app gives you simple control over your favorite music. Works together with other SoundTouch® speakers so as you go from room to room, your music goes along with you. Includes a universal remote so you can control your other devices, too. Available in Black

Very good but not perfect
on November 4, 2016
Posted by: Annonymous
Pros: Very clear low mids. Gets very loud. Voices are good for TV and movies because of the strong deeper voice tones.
Cons: High mids seem to be missing. Not enough highs, which don't seem very present especially in music. IMO this unit is useless without the bass module for music with strong beats or for watching action movies.
*If all you need is a soundbar, you wont get any deep bass that you can get from a $100 one with its own built in subwoofer. Also, its not worth buying for $700 if you dont plan on also buying the bass module.

For the price, Very Good not great
on November 4, 2016

If it was only 300 bucks, then it would be a 5 star rating, but its not.
Pros; Lots of highs.Crisp voices. Good for watching TV and movies. User friendly remote, many options but without having to be a tech wiz to understand. The easy remote alone makes me want to keep this soundbar. Pairs on its own with sub.
Cons; Not as loud as it looks, but still loud. Minimal if any midbass. Bad for music because of the frequency gap that seems to be missing (midbass and lower mids). Starts to roll off only at about 40hz using a tone generator (not surprising from only a 7" sub). Cannot connect to a different sub. The passive sub driver is useless, there should have just been a port for lower bass. The bass isnt very sharp either.
I will try to figure out if theres a setting to keep the soundbar from shutting off on its own only after a few minutes of non use, otherwise that alone will make me return this unit.
*Sidenote- The Bose 300 soundbar has a deeper/better/bigger separate subwoofer, but this sony has better highs. I have both

Too unrealistic in any aspect. This would be one of those 2 star rated sci fi movies on netflix. It would only be entertaining to an audience age 13 and under because it has lots of cool aliens, guns and flying, unfortunately for the producers its rated PG13. Visually cool, yet a terrible movie with or without expectations from part one. The ending tops it off by spitting at you in the face lol

Im a TV guy and know what a good TV is. Great picture, good sound. Very slight motion blur, but you wont find much better on just a 32" size. Using it as a monitor, be sure to set it to Game mode for no input lag. 1080p is the way to go regardless of viewer distance, especially for monitor. calling back to get the price match difference now that its on sale ;)

But so far its perfect. everything is good about it. I dont videogame but still very fast performance. 5G connection makes the internet about 2x faster over 2.4G for this thing. The video quality is great, but the display itself has no specialty to it. It has a sweet spot angle, everywhere else has the effect as if there is very light dew on it, kinda like glitter. kinda expensive but if the screen wont bother, its a trade.

Fantastic TV!
By Lemonademouth3001
I have been looking for a very good 4K tv for quite some time. I did all the research and was up to date on all the latest and greatest features on each model. In terms of price this is exactly where I wanted it and in comparison to the other models around this price, it has the best picture. Android TV is a great operating system don't have any trouble with it and I don't even have an HD package for cable and the picture looks fantastic. Great TV for gaming as well. The best TV purchase I have ever made!

Sequels are usually better than the original but not in this cases. Loaded with over the top bigger more cgi bigger isn't always better. The premise is add in some young people to pull in a young audience and throw big cgi. It missed building relatable characters on a path you can rally with.

Not fun to set up
By Bryan
I purchased these along with my Soundbar - After I did all the set up for the soundbar, I set up these speakers only to realize I needed to do the set up again... I'm not sure why Bose would do this, but the wires come seperate from the speakers and you have to put the wires in this adaptor and then screw them in place and then plug it in the speaker. When the consumer pays this much money for the product I would think it would be more of a plug and play concept.
I biggest downside goes along with my other review on the soundbar, the system goes to sleep after a little while and shuts down. I couldn't find any answers to fix this and frustrating if you want to leave it on all day while at work so your dogs have some background noise when you leave.
Overall, the sound is great however the Sonos system seems to have more of a user friendly experience...

I also dislike that they shut off, because then if the sound bar cools down, it can take up to a minute to warm up, sorta like a plamsa TV would.

Not worth the money
By KevinR
For sure this is a neat unit... heavy TVs are, well, too heavy. But this price is introductory gimmickry for the rich and gotta-show-off crowd. Don't waste your money. The price will drop severely in the future. CONS: (1) It sits flat on the wall---thus, you can't tilt or adjust the viewing angle. This is a BAD thing, not a good one, unless your room and seating is designed for this setup. (And a capable carpenter could effectively flush mount any flat screen for the same effect). (2) The too-short cable doesn't make a lot of sense, and tethering the pricey unit to a sound bar also makes little sense---buyers who can afford this unit would certainly have a much better surround system already.
I'd personally prefer to have a very light weight (3-10 pounds) panel that mounts on a traditional tilt/swivel mount. The "cool" factor doesn't outweigh the price and loss of adjustable viewing angle. And I'd bet the picture isn't equal to much cheaper units.
That said, I'm excited to see this thin technology finally hit the market and I look forward to better and cheaper iterations in the future.

Playbase vs Playbar
By lbreezy225
I've been in the market for a new home theatre sound system, one that also performed well with music as it did with tv/movies. I decided that I wanted to go with the Sonos eco-system due to the quality of sound, simplicity, and overall very impressive reviews.
What immediately plagued me next was the introduction of the Playbase. Up until now after numerous trips to Best Buy and other Audio/Video stores I was pretty set on getting the Playbar. The Playbase however immediately sparked my interest due to the fact that it was a brand new entry from Sonos and that my tv would fit perfectly over the base (Sony XBR65x900E) plus the Playbase in white looked aesthetically pleasing to me. Much more so than the outdated, clunky look of the Playbar.
So that was it, I decided to build my set up around the Playbase. I went back to Best Buy to test it out before my purchase. I was immediately confused by what I was hearing. The Playbase sounded inferior to the Playbar. Every single review I read stated that they sounded almost identical except the Playbase was superior due to it's added sub. That didn't matter to me because I was already committed on purchasing the Sonos Sub.
The only way to know for sure was to bring these baby's home. I purchased the Playbase and the sub. I immediately set up Trueplay along with the sub and played a few songs on it. I was not happy, the music sounded flat and the highs/mids/lows sounded bunched up together. The sound didn't fill my living room like I imagined it. I couldn't really FEEL the music (some of you know what I'm talking about, when I say this). Not the way a system that costs $700 should anyway. The Playbase still had a good amount of lows coming out of it even with the Sub connected. On a side note the Sub is amazing, handled even the slightest low frequency with detail and control. Which leads me to the next issue. The lows coming from the sub were significantly of better quality than the mids and highs that were being out put by the Playbase. It just didn't blend well together as if they were not made to work together cohesively. Then I tested out some tv shows and movies. It sounded better and I was pleased, though not ready to bust out of my pants excited. The dialogue was clear but I didn't really get the "surround" sound effect. Again, the sub overshadowed everything that was coming out of the Playbase.
So after testing the Playbase out for a week I was a little bummed out, possibly considering even not going with Sonos anymore. Still I remember being really impressed with all the demos I heard with the Playbar at the stores. So I went to Best Buy and picked up the Playbar came home and set it up. My suspicions were in fact true, the Playbar was by far the superior product. The sound filled my room, possibly by the bigger sized tweets and that they face out in a angle rather than straight out like the Playbase. It didn't matter that the Playbase has an extra speaker. This was the sound that impressed me in my numerous visits and what sold me to Sonos. I played the same songs and this time around I felt the music. It justified the price tag. It blended with the sub so well as if they were a match made in heaven.
The thousands of positive reviews for the Playbar can't be wrong, though mark my words. The Playbase will without a doubt be rated much lower as time passes. I can say without a doubt that while the Playbar sounds like a premium sound system the Playbase sounds like a nice upgrade to to your tv speakers, but why pay $700 for that?
Overall I feel a little bittersweet about my findings. The Playbase fit better for my set up and looks better. I wish it really did sound the same. It just doesn't. Not by a long shot. Bottom line: if you plan to buy the sub get the Playbar. The Playbase as many reviews have stated is a head scratcher. I wish they just updated the Playbar.
I hope this helps those that are planning to buy into the Sonos eco system and I also hope this helps those who already own a Playbar that's eyeing the new Playbase. If you don't have the sub, get it.
FYI: Several Best Buy employees also agreed to my assessment and agreed that the Playbar had a much fuller sound. I'm sure Sonos wants people to believe that the Playbase is just as good but this just not true.

The playbase is just under 2.5" tall.. Not very impressive when on the search for quality sound. Also, not all bases of TV stands are smal like the playbase, so not the best thing to mount it on. Only downside to the playbar is its feature that eliminates a range of frequencies to keep furniture from rattling. I actually like the rattle/rumble..

Problematic UHD (4K) Blu-Ray set
By Mike from CA
Let me start by saying that I was a huge fan of Planet Earth. Easy 5 stars all day.
The Planet Earth II set was viewed on an OPPO UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player and 65" LG OLED TV (2016 model)
With Planet Earth II, I had high expectations but was unfortunately left stunned in some areas and overly disappointed in others.
There are currently 2 sets in the US: Blu-Ray (1080p) and UHD Blu-Ray (4k). I'll be reviewing the 4K set.
The 4K set includes 3 discs; Disc 1 & 2 have 3 episodes each (6 total) while Disc 3 is a normal blu-ray disc holding the extra features (a bit under an hour of content). Each episode runs about 45 minutes, so you're getting roughly 6 hours of content across the 6 episodes + bonus feature. First disappointment: All 3 discs are included in a 2-disc case. The 2nd disc is stacked on top of the 3rd, causing scratching.
Audio is presented in DTS-HD MA 5.1. Picture is 16:9 ("Fullscreen" on a widescreen TV). The 4K set requires a 4K TV and 4K UHD Blu-Ray player. It will not play on a normal blu-ray player.
No 1080p disc (besides the bonus features) is included on the 4K set; no digital copy is included.
So why the 4 stars?
Some of the content here is stunning. Insanely detailed, sharp and exciting (especially in HDR!). Some of the content is OK (still good, but not 4K) and some is downright awful. We're talking slightly above DVD Quality. There is no consistency and this happens in all episodes. This appears to be due to the mix of different cameras; while some are filmed with high-end equipment, some other shots appear to be shot with a gopro stuck in the forest or the desert (and I'm not exaggerating here). I didn't notice any shots like this during Planet Earth (1) so it was a surprise to see here. This may be the best that the gopro footage has ever been seen.. but it's still gopro footage.
Shots will quickly go from high-end to low-end, making the problems much more obvious.
Lastly, while the content during Planet Earth 1 was entertaining and captivating throughout, I felt Planet Earth 2 was good but had some slower moments that were unlike the first.
Overall, I don't regret it. More Planet Earth content is always great! Unfortunately, it's not up to par with how it SHOULD have looked. Or how good the content itself should have been.

Yes, I also believe he was nit picking. Sure, this movie SHOULD have been all perfect 4k throughout, and so should have all the great films I grew up with in the 80' and 90's, but they COULD not have based on the older tech. Also, some video wasnt perfect resolution because of certain shots were captured from far distances causing the "4k" cameras to zoom in a lot, to not scare the animals away. To add, thats why the opening scene was that of a super slow animal (sloth) because you could get up close and personal with all the time in the world . A good first impression! Now i guess im nit picking here ha

I'm speechless with the picture quality
By Neker718
The most amazing picture quality ever PERIOD, I received my Sony a1e on 4-14-17, and straight out of the box, the picture quality is outstanding, I thought the sound coming from the screen was a gimmick, but I was so wrong, the sound quality is amazing, even though I have a 7.1.2 surround sound with Dolby atmos, and I love the sound coming from the screen, this is the perfect sound to watch drama movies, the blacks are superb and the detail on black scenes blew me away, the HDR contest on this tv has no competition, this tv is worth the money in every aspect, the motion handling is incredible, I'm so amazed by this tv, We all. Know that the screen is from LG, but what makes the difference here is the Sony processing, the picture quality, the motion handling and the X1extreme chip, for those with doubts about this tv, just go to see it on display and I guarantee you that you will write the same review like my, from now then, I'll call this tv the HOLY GRAIL of all tv's.

The dark blacks sort of substitute for the need of super bright hdr. But its still bright for all angles, not just the guy sitting directly in front of an LED tv. You can actually feel the screen vibrate from the sound..not needed. Sony makes us pay for the expensive gimmicky screen speaker technology.. just a wow factor... I also hate the tv stand, tv faces upward..

Good 4k Bluray player.

Trust me, video is as good as sony's 4k bluray X800. I read x800 is as good as oppo 203 which is like $600.
I tried 4k bluray discs, 1080p discs, and 3d discs. All looking great so far. New firmware update which enabled Youtube HDR saved me $80 which i almost purchased chromecast ultra for.
Only downside is that there are much options, which in my case not needed w/ great video quality I get on my 65" oled E6.

Can you buy a blu-ray player and not have it hooked up to the internet. Only play movies.

I bought a Blu-ray player and it would only work if hooked to the internet. I took it back to best buy in Bryant, AR and was told that you can no longer buy Blu-ray players without hooking them to the internet to get updates. I just want to play my movies. I had a blu-ray player that did that but it no longer works. Thank you for your help.
