Justice at its most brutal is the order of the day in a frontier mining town ruled by greed and corruption in this collection of episodes from the acclaimed HBO Western series Deadwood. Deadwood: The Complete First Season features all 12 episodes from the show's first cycle, featuring Ian McShane, Keith Carradine, and Timothy Olyphant. Episodes include "Deadwood," "Deep Water," "Reconnoitering the Rim," "Here Was a Man," "The Trial of Jack McCall," "Plague," "Bullock Returns to the Camp," "Suffer the Little Children," "No Other Sons of Daughters," "Mister Wu," "Jewel's Boot Is Made for Walking," and "Sold Under Sin."

Slow start to a good series

Now that the first season retails for $60 I would recommend this show, whereas before when the seasons cost $80 it was questionable. I really like this show because I am a fan of westerns/Wild West culture, but the story is too well-paced. There are three seasons of Deadwood, each with ten 1 hour episodes, so it is better to think of the series as a 30 hour movie! That may explain why it takes a while for this show to get moving.
What's great about it: good storyline
What's not so great: expensive

Fresh sound

Let's face it: if you're going to buy this CD, it's because it has the song everyone wants from the "Pineapple Express" trailer. Although that song ("Paper Planes") is awesome, don't expect the other 11 tracks to be as good. This is a fun CD with a fresh sound to it, but there is only one hit on the album.

Hilarious, obscure show

This is the funniest show ever to appear on Adult Swim (I realize this is a bold statement) and it needs your help to stay on the air. Although it has a cult-like following, as with many shows late at night, it remains relatively obscure. Those who do watch the show know how funny it is. Starring a vulgar little boy named Shin Chan, there is no line that this show won't cross, and you got to love that about it. Hopefully Funimation will continue to make this show, because its loss to the Cartoon Network lineup would not go unnoticed.

Another exciting season

If you enjoyed Season 4, Season 5 is of the same quality. Starting when Cell first attacks and ending when he becomes Perfect Cell, this storyline has many new developments (including the fusion of Piccolo and Kame, and evolution of the Super Saiyans). The Cell Games were unexpectedly not included in this season, which is scary because after the Cell Games is when Dragonball Z starts to slow down in my opinion, meaning that season must have the worst episode of Dragon Ball Z ever (yes, The Great Saiaman!).

Hilarious!

Other than Curb Your Enthusiasm (also HBO), this may be the funniest show on today. The show follows a struggling novelty band from New Zealand as they try to make it in the music business. The cool thing is that the two main guys do actually have a band by the same name, and while their songs are funny, they're actually quite good. The only thing disappointing with this season is that it only has 10 thirty minute episodes, but we can't fault the DVD for that!

A fine New Zealand Film

I was expecting this movie to be absolutely hilarious since it co-stars Jemaine Clement from "Flight of the Concords" on HBO. I was slightly disappointed that the movie wasn't on the same level comedic-wise, but beneath its exterior it is a good movie. If you want to get a feel for what its like before buying it, picture Napolean Dynamite if it were written and directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Science of Sleep).

This third DVD collection of episodes of Batman: The Animated Series contains a handful of interesting extras including audio and video commentary on some of the episodes by many of the people who worked on the show. Each of the episodes is presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. A featurette concerning how Batgirl entered Batman's life rounds out this title.

Final volume worth purchasing

This is the third installment of a stellar animated series from the early 90's. Although there are 4 volumes of Batman: The Animated Series for sell, these are the true final 28 episodes of the series. I would not suggest buying Volume 4, because it is done by a different staff years later. Batman fans wishing to have the whole set will be sorely disappointed if they venture past this last portion of good show. Even this third volume starts to dip a little towards the end...

English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. In addition to three making-of featurettes, this box set offers commentary tracks from a variety of people who work behind the scenes of the program including producers Bruce Timm, Eric Radomski, Paul Dini, Kevin Altieri, and Boyd Kirkland.

Batman fanatics should hurry up and buy this before it goes back to full price! This is another awesome volume of an animated series that I loved as a child, and still love today 16 years later. This series has a deep storyline that I can't get enough of. In a day and age when quality animated shows are hard to come by, this blast from the past is a worthy purchase.

Thanks to repeated online petitions and demanding consumers everywhere, Warner Bros. has finally released this four-disc set from the first season of Batman: The Animated Series. Was it worth the wait? You betcha! Twenty-eight action-packed episodes are included (that's half of the first season), as well as some fine extras that should make any Bat-fan drool. From the foldout packaging to the design aesthetic that mirrors the studio's other recent superhero releases (see Challenge of the Super Friends: Volume One), this set screams class, just like the set's first episode "On Leather Wings" did when it aired in 1992. While the shows may not be in correct air date order, "Wings" was the first to be produced, and looking at it today will give anyone a new appreciation for the artistry involved in the production. Rarely do you see such stark and innovative lighting on an animated series -- especially anything around that time. And though there might be some flecks here and there throughout the hand cel animation, the picture quality on the DVD is a treat and a half, as are the various language Dolby Digital Surround tracks (English, French, and Spanish, for those counting). Extras start with the 17-minute "Batman: The Legacy Continues" retrospective featurette, containing interviews with the series creators as well as comic professionals. "Legacy" is an in-depth look at how the show was created and what set it apart from the rest of the character's history, from the comic page and beyond. Also included is the 1991 original pilot promo reel from Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski that kick-started the series, ushering in the first time that the footage has been seen outside of rare bootlegged copies found in the fan community. Additionally, two commentaries from both co-creators are attached to "On Leather Wings" and the acclaimed "Heart of Ice" episode -- long regarded as one of the finest of the series' history. Other extras include trailers for other superhero releases from Warner Bros. and DC, along with "A Tour of the Batcave," an interactive feature where you can view various show highlights focusing on different areas of Batman's secret lair. Any Bat-fan should be impressed with this release, though it would be wise for future DVD volumes to take notes from Paul Dini and Chip Kidd's Batman Animated book as far as the inclusion of title card galleries and character studies go.

Great animated show

My advice to any fan of Batman would be to buy up this series while it is still on sale because of "The Dark Knight" release in theatres. I was hesitant to purchase this first volume of this tv show that I used to watch, primarily because I was only 5-6 years old when I thought it was an awesome show. However, I think I have an even greater appreciation for the show now than I did when I was a kid. They just don't make shows like this anymore, and it's easy to see how this series could win Emmys.

This hilarious release from the landmark improvisational comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm includes all 10 episodes from the show's sixth season, following the everyday adventures of the awesomely misanthropic Larry and his quest to be left alone.

Another funny season

Nuances in this 6th installment of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm include the arrival of the Blacks, a hurricane displaced family, and the departure of Cheryl, who has finally had enough of Larry. Although seasons 2 and 4 are the funniest in my opinion, this season comes a close 3rd place. Each episode is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud at least once.
