GREAT SCORE
on November 11, 2011

I love soundtracks. Usually I come across them in the movies that I watch. I will notice the impact that the score has on the film itself and research it further. By the time I get around to purchasing it, there is already buzz surrounding it.
That did not happen with this score. I watched the movie but somehow passed over the score. But, while researching another score I checked out the 'People who liked this also liked this...' button and found 'Battle: Los Angeles. I am not sure how I did not notice the score when watching the movie itself. There are a few cues that I could do without, where they sound too generically military, but the rest of the score is incredible.
I am glad I stumbled across this score.

BEST OF THE SERIES

The movie and the score go hand in hand and compliment each other perfectly. Every time I hear this score I want to watch the movie. It is distinctive and moving, with moments of power. The themes from the first score are very distinctive, but I felt no impulse to want to listen to the score outside of the movie. Not so with this score. It is a comic-book score however and requires me to be in a certain frame of mind to listen to it. But it is well worth the listen.

Better than expected

I loved the movie. Yes, it is flawed, but it is fun and the special effects are great. The score struck me enough while watching it that I gave the samples a listen on the Best Buy website. They were good enough to warrant a purchase.
I was pleasantly surprised by the score in its entirety. It definitely has spots in it that seem lackluster, but the moments where it shines far outweigh the times where it doesn't.
The score is a perfect companion for the movie itself, they go together very well.

Great Soundtrack

I am a fan of soundtracks, especially dark/moody/eerie soundtracks. I have not seen this movie, but I enjoy the post-apocalyptic genre, and what you usually get with this genre is a very moody soundtrack. I listened to clips on bestbuy.com hoping that this is what I would get out of this soundtrack, but even though there wasn't quite enough for me to tell what I would be getting, I decided I would make the purchase anyway.
Though it didn't blow me away, it definitely put its own twist on a post-apocalyptic soundtrack. I don't have the gift of writing reviews that break the music down into detail, so I have to use the cliches. So for this one I will say that is oddly haunting (I am kicking myself for using that one) with a a slightly electronic vibe. I can't place my finger on it but the whole thing felt like it had an low voltage electric current running through it to give a mildly unsettling feel.
It is a very unique listen that has stayed in rotation for a while now.
I would also recommend the soundtrack for 'The Road'.
What's great about it: Unexpected
What's not so great: nothing for me personally

Great Score

What an odd journey for me in listening to this soundtrack.
Saw the trailer for the movie >> movie wasn't out >> saw the trailer again and saw that it was based on a book >> checked the book out from the library >> movie still wasn't out >> saw the soundtrack for 'The Book of Eli' at Best Buy >> thought about 'The Road' >> listened to clips of the soundtrack on bestbuy.com >> bought the soundtrack >> love the soundtrack >> movie finally comes out.
I love soundtracks and I love this soundtrack. I especially love dark, moody and/or eerie soundtracks...and this soundtrack is all that. After having read the book, I can think back to what I have read and set it to this score. I have not yet seen the movie, but the music seems more in keeping with the tone of the book than what the trailer shows. The book is very lonely highlighted by a few very tense confrontations and that is what this score gives you.
In fact, listening to the soundtrack has made me want to see the movie all the more.
What's great about it: Great mood
What's not so great: ...nothing for me personally

Good solid, post-Lane effort
on October 30, 2009

The album is very good with solid tunes throughout most of the album. I was pleasantly surprised that the new singer sounds remarkably similar to Lane Staley even though I wish they would have branched out into a new sound. My problem is that even though he sounds like Staley, he can't match Staley's angst and so he comes across as flat. In that regard, I would say that if you can't match him perfectly, don't try to match him at all. It is only going to further negative comparisons.
It is not a good enough album to make me keep it in a constant rotation, but I will revisit it often enough to have made the purchase worth it. You probably won't be disappointed, but you won't be impressed either.
What's great about it: sounds like Alice in Chains
What's not so great: lacks something intangible that puts it over the top

Great Value, Great Sound
on February 13, 2008

As another piece in my personal theater, I needed a speaker package that would provide the sound I was looking for in the price range I could afford.
I was able to listen to these in the store, which were placed right next to the speakers I originally came in to buy. The speakers I came in to buy were powered by a more powerful receiver than the these speakers were being powered by. Hearing these speakers in person sold me on them immediately, and though the price was a little more, they were still within budget.
This is the first speaker system I have bought that has included a subwoofer, and the difference was immediate. I have them plugged into a Yamaha receiver (see other reviews) and the sound is fantastic. Watching movies is a joy.
I have seen other reviews where the plastic stand were listed as a 'con' but I would have to disagree. I was not expecting the box to include speaker stands in the first place, so seeing them when I opened the box was just a bonus for me. The stands are more rubber than plastic, and they will do the job as long as you don't move them around or bump them too much. I won't be using the stands too much longer as I plan to wall-mount them soon. So it was another bonus for me when I realized that the package included wall-mounts as well. I have not used them, so I do not know how durable they are, but I will assume that they will work just fine. Both of these items (stands, wall-mounts) were factored into my budget as extra accessories, so having them included with the speakers frees up some more budget.
The box also includes plenty of speaker wire to get you started, but I will not be using it for long only becuase I intend to upgrade the speaker wire and run it through the wall.
Basically, everything you need to take the speakers out of the box and listen to them is included.
If you can get to a store and listen to these speakers, I would recommend it. With both my TV and speakers, I did my research online (thoroughly) and went into the store expecting to walk up and purchase the items. Both times, after viewing/listening to other products, I walked away with a different TV/speaker system and I could not be happier. I have learned that I can only rely on specs so much, because meeting certain requirements is nice, but it doesn't matter if I am not happy with what I am actually going to hear or see.
What's great about it: Rich sound, everything included to listen out the box
