Great Popcorn moving leading to a better sequel
on October 30, 2008

Hellboy was a great popcorn movie. The director is amazing at setting a scene. It's well work getting this movie on Bluray (if you've got the player) because the visuals are very interesting. The movie is a little short on plot and character development but it's fun and Ron Perlman is great as usual.

Other's have probably already said it so listen up

One of the worse things in recent TV history has been the cancellation of Firefly. It was quite possibly one of the most promising shows. Then Serenity comes along and lifts our hopes that the story will continue. Again, this was a incredible movie (even for people who haven't seen the show). So to all those big people out there in Hollywood making the decisions, help continue this series. If you give it a chance instead of dumping it in a closet like you have been, I'm sure it will make you lots of money. To everyone else, buy this DVD and show them that we like engaging, intelligent, action, sci-fi, drama. Buy it now.

Great Adventure + history
on October 28, 2008

National treasure was probably the best adventure movies to come out in years (easily topping George Lucas' new Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). Enough of clues, puzzles, chases, escapes and even a little bit of history (under the conspiracy theory stuff anyway) to keep anyone well entertained for a the length of the film. It's a good buy.

Mel Brooks vs Robin Hood
on October 27, 2008

Mel Brooks takes aim at the popular Robin Movies over the past 70 years. Most notably he spoofs the Kevin Cosner version and the Errol Flynn version. The movie is hilarious and at $10 it's a you'll be getting away with highway robbery. Go buy it. You won't regret it.

MGM brings Mel Brooks' science fiction farce Spaceballs to DVD with both widescreen and standard versions on the same disc, and 5.1 Surround Sound, though the movie's lackluster production values make it difficult to discern the quality of the transfer. Still, for fans of actor/writer/director Brooks, the full-length commentary (originally recorded for the laserdisc release) includes his trademark quips and a genuine appreciation of the actors and other collaborators on the film. He has an amazing memory for the details of their careers before and after working with him. It's also refreshing for a director to mock his own work, as well as laugh at the comic bits he has undoubtedly seen dozens of times. In a brief behind-the-scenes featurette, cast members John Candy, Rick Moranis, and others talk about the pleasure of working with Brooks and share stories of on-set goofiness. Basically, for fans of Brooks' unique comic sensibilities, the DVD makes a worthwhile evening's entertainment.

Classic Mel Brooks

Spaceballs was the classic Mel Brooks parody. Taking aim at Star Wars (one of the biggest pop culture sensations), he manages pull laugh after laugh out of this sci-fi farce. The disk itself is short on extras but it's a $10 movie so it's well worth it.

Great Sequel
on October 23, 2008

This was a great follow up to a great movie. Xmen set up the story and X2 carried it along. The DVD is great with lots of extras and a movie that well worth seeing. All the original cast is back with some new characters and if you buy it, all you have to do is go to your TV.

The DVD release of this overlooked and underrated film by Joel and Ethan Coen has no extras associated with it, not even theatrical trailers or production notes -- ironic considering that this follow-up to the award-winning Barton Fink is a film for only the diehard Coen brothers fans who would pay for a collector's edition. The best thing that can be said is that the transfer is beautiful, in vibrant colors only seen on DVD. Two formats of the film are presented here: side one has the beautiful 1:85 widescreen transfer while side two is standard full screen. The audio is strictly stereo at best and the language and subtitles options are English and French only. Unless this film is way up on someone's list of all-time favorite films, its DVD release isn't worth owning.

Weird but funny

The Hudsucker Proxy was one of those really strange movies but the oddness of it worked sort of perfectly. The disc really doesn't have extras. It's not the kind of movie people really obsess over. But it's quirky fun and I think people will enjoy it. It's a little overpriced at $18 here. You might want to wait till it goes on sale.

The Continuing Story
on October 17, 2008

The 4th season of B5 really begins to hit home on an emotional level. Everything that has happened over the past three years of the show starts to come down. The war is over but they still are dealing with consequences. Some great shows including some killer episodes of Walter Koenig (as Bester probably one of the best performances ever). If you don't own B5, buy it.

This six-disc box set contains all 22 episodes of third season of the cult science fiction series Babylon 5. Each is presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. Supplemental materials include commentary on three of the episodes by a variety of people involved both in front of and behind the camera, a pair of featurettes, previews of future episodes, and an introduction recorded by the man who created the series, J. Michael Straczynski. This is a superb set for fans of the show.

The Climax
on October 15, 2008

As I understand it, Straczynski planned the series as sort of a five part act from beginning to end before they started filming. The third season is sort of the climax of the series, with the war the everything. Elements that were started in the first season are woven together seemlessly. Again, I really killer series that most everyone would enjoy.

Really Takes Off
on October 14, 2008

The Second season of Babylon 5 is where things really take off for the series. They brought in Bruce Boxleitner to replace the other commander (who always kinda sounded like a 70s lounge singer). It's an excellent series and I highly recommend it to everyone.
