Espionage, not superspy

Tom Clancy's CIA operative Jack Ryan headlined six novels and, in 1989, was first personified by Alec Baldwin in the submarine chasing thriller The Hunt For Red October, which also starred Sean Connery. With the success of that film, plans were put forward to film the remaining Jack Ryan stories as a "James Bond for the 1990s" (the Bond films being "off air" due to legal wrangling at the time) and Philip Noyce immediately began directorial duties on Patriot Games. Alec Baldwin priced himself out of continuing as Ryan, so Harrison Ford was brought in to spearhead the projected franchise. With its IRA storyline, Patriot Games was controversial but successful. The 1995 follow up, A Clear and Present Danger, did not manage the same appeal and Ford retired from the role, much to Tom Clancy's relief as he felt Ford to be too old anyway.
Eight years later, Ben Affleck debuted as a younger Ryan in The Sum of All Fears, but hopes that this would reboot the Jack Ryan franchise proved fruitless. Plans to film the remaining novels have remained in the ideas department, though there are whisperings of a new movie featuring a new actor in the role. Here is hoping.

Incredibly fun
on December 20, 2014

I bought a Wii U for Mario Kart a few weeks before its release. I knew that Super Mario 3D World would be a fun game, so I picked it up. I've never *really* enjoyed Mario games, but I picked them up anyway because they weren't bad games by any means—just not my cup of tea. I don't know if I aged or what, but when I started playing Super Mario 3D World, I couldn't put it down. Its a beautiful game to boot, probably one of the prettiest I'd seen.
Also, color me surprised by the multiplayer and how fun it is—its actually more fun than single player I think. Its really great being able to sit down with my girlfriend or with a group of friends and play a really fun game together—not for kills or trophies, but just to have fun in each others' company.

Pretty good

Just got this game and as one that was not familiar with this game when it originally came out, I wasnt sure what to expect. I read the good reviews and hoped for the best. I will say that so far I am pleased, it seems like a fun action game with good story elements. I will say though on medium level at least in the beginning stages, it seems a bit easy, but I havent gotten far into the game so I am not sure whether that level will amp up the further I go into the game. It is definately worth the price at 16.00 bucks though for all the bonus stuff with it, if you are like me and have never bought the original when it first appeared.

Explore underworld cities, engage in side missions and put Isaac's engineering skills to the ultimate test in order to build the weapons needed to survive. The weight of human survival rests on your shoulders, but you can enlist the help of your friends with the game's new drop-in and drop-out co-op gameplay. Not very scary
on December 20, 2014

As a big fan of the original Dead Space and someone who liked Dead Space 2 (but not as much as the first), I am sad to say the game does not follow in the foot steps of its predecessors. The game isn't bad, but it doesn't live up to the promises of horror that the first entry or even the second one had. It has a lack of tone and atmosphere that made the series so scary, and the game is taking the Resident Evil route of cramming in as much action in as possible. It's a sham too since I really enjoyed Dead Space 1&2, and even Extraction. I bought this games for $10 so I don't feel like I've lost anything, but if you are looking for something scary and more akin to the original, I suggest staying away from this entry in order to preserve your feelings about the franchise.

It is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established a lawless pirate republic. Among these outlaws is a fearsome young captain named Edward Kenway. His exploits earn the respect of pirate legends like Blackbeard, but draw him into an ancient war that may destroy everything the pirates have built.

Culmination of Assassin's Creed

Great, great game, one of the best of the year and probably the best of the AC series. For those who have been following from the beginning, each game has gotten a lot right while leaving a lot to be desired. AC1 with the repetitive nature, AC2 improved the combat and the story but occasionally got a bit thin around the edges. AC3 was a 5 hour game in a 60 hour package.
AC4 has finally figured out the series and what it can be. The story is good (though not the best of the series). The combat is tight and varied. Ship battles are intense and unbelievably cool, far superior to Sid Meier's Pirates (the only recent pirate game worth mentioning). Best yet there is a lot to do and none of it feels like filler. It is a more open and living world like recent GTA games in opposition traffic cone style citizenry of past AC games.
Overall it is an excellent game and you'll have fun just pirating around without even bothering with the main story. But this is the best AC yet and has to give everyone hope after the AC3 letdown.

Solid, tons of storage, good price
on December 20, 2014
Posted by: CasualBestBuyShopper
I bought this last week for roughly fifty cents a gig, and even after that special it's still pretty inexpensive for what you're getting.
Body: solid, with the little slide button on the top to jut the USB fitting in and out of the body. In my opinion this is better than the caps because everyone loses the caps eventually and the USB fitting just hangs out exposed getting beat up.
Attachment point: it has a decent little key ring (or lanyard) attachment point which for 64gb worth of data you might want to consider.
Transfer speed: quick. I'm using this primarily for backing up native images in high resolution so it's not critical that I get blazing speeds, but I also don't want to hang around watching the transfer bar go across. This drive performs fast enough for me; it seems on par with every other higher-end USB drive I've come across.
Bottom line: I'm using this thumb drive as a off-computer storage when doing remote trips in far away places. There are a lot of photos taken which get cleaned off the SD card every day and loaded onto my laptop. This 64gb drives gives me a quick way to make a separate physical back up. Why not just use the cloud? Well, in a lot of "out there" locations there simply is no Internet access and even if you can find a cafe, there are better things to do in paradise than wait around for two hours as gig after gig of data transfers.
That's my use, it works great, and if you have a high storage need capacity I'm sure you'll find the same results.

Excellent!

I love this show!!! Mostly because it reveals the human side of us all---the once authentic protagonist acting only on behalf of his family, becomes the antagonist acting on behalf of his medical diagnosis and his own missed opportunites. Yet, he still behaves as if to procure for his family a legacy that will sustain his family in his absence. And that is where his motivation changes. Knowing he has already provided monetary susbstinance for his family to employ after his demise, he becomes Heisenberg, becomes enraptured with his past failings---i.e. college days---and then seeks to retribute and reclaim what his life was supposed to be about. He siezes the opportunity to become what he believes he was destined to become: A talented visonary destined to change the world--and become rich, thus safe. Mr. White, the ordinary, struggling, honest high-school professor, seizes the opportunity to gain cash, alot of cash, to beset his previous acknowlegement of financial failure, despite his academic and intellectual prowess---because he knows, as all of our society knows---that security is based on monetary acheivements--not scholary ones. Sad. Sad that this falecsy is true---in our culture we verbally promote the learnings and study of chemistry, mathematics, sociology, and art, but---none of us in the business of business will ever acknowlege these proficiencies of knowledge unless we can find a way to make a buck of it. Hence, it is totally natural that Mr. White became Heisenburg. Mr. White became a murderer, a liar, a cheat, a monster... not because he was one to begin with, but became one because he desired the American dream: Recognized for his intellect, knowledge, and his love for his family. Walter White is a profile of us all. He is not the villian so much as he is the villian in all of us who dare to venture beyond the barriers that prevent us all from becoming what we were promised, and were lied to about: Recognition for our efforts, security for our family, and acknowlegment of the work we displayed our entire lives. This show is extraordinary in revealing this. And I beleive this is why so many of us tout its excellence---not because it is purley great writing, great acting, or great profiling (which it is all of these things) but because it strikes a cord in every American human being that what we we told, what we were promoted to become, is not what is truly wanted, admired, or desired: Money and power. Sad but true.

Very good non-stop thriller
on December 20, 2014
Posted by: CasualBestBuyShopper
This is a non-stop thriller with plenty of action, suspense, murder, and fights. Liam Neeson plays a drunk and depressed air marshal superbly. He is on a six hour flight from New York to England flying in first class. He receives a text message on his phone from a passenger who he is unable to identify until the end of the film. The person knows all about Neeson the air marshal and his daughter. He demands one hundred and fifty million dollars or he will kill a passenger every twenty minutes. Although others could not see it, this man knew that Neeson was smoking in the plane bathroom. The person on the phone is smart and manipulative. He is able to manipulate people on the ground and passengers on the plane to think that Neeson is hijacking the plane, including setting it up that the money would go to an account in Neeson’s name. Neeson needs to stop the hijacker, find out how people are being killed, what does the person want to harm him, and if the person is doing what is being done for the money or a different reason.

Instant zombie classic
on December 20, 2014

Long live the slow zombie that moves in herds. I'm loving the return to the Romero zombie (though 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead's fast zombies are some of my favs as well). As for this episode, I initially thought there was a bit too much set up early on in the episode but the final 15 mins of this show really built on that slow exposition. I'm looking forward to seeing what the season has in store for us. Also, not a review of the episode, but I really love buying just the shows I want to see using Amazon. This is my second purchase of a season of one of AMC's stellar original programming pieces (first purchase was mad men). I don't miss cable a bit.

So much tension!
on December 20, 2014
Posted by: CasualBestBuyShopper
It looks like Walt and Jesse are moving forward. In the background, Mike makes a clever move while tightening up a loose end and bringing himself into the fold. The growning dark rationalizations fed to Skylar are deepening the rift. Can/Should Skylar compartmentalize and find some "middle" ground, as if the word middle even exists in this context? Or, can Walt move to remaining mute and letting her settle matters in her own mind? On both matters, probably not, the rift is driving a significant slice of the drama in this series.
