Classic release still sounds great!

A glaring omission from my CD collection had to be purchased to fill a void. This is a great CD from start to finish. Of course it contains their biggest hit, “The Boys Are Back in Town,” but there are no tracks to skip here. I recall an interview with the band in which they were surprised to hear that “The Boys Are Back in Town” was getting a lot of radio time since it hadn’t necessarily stood out any more or less than the other songs on the CD. That’s a testament to how strong of an album this is. I bought the original CD version (as opposed to remastered and expanded edition) for $5.99 in-store. The sound quality is absolutely fine. Enjoy!

DIY with patience and perseverance

My HP Pavilion desktop had been giving me trouble for several months. Since I bought it in 2008 and already upgraded it once, I was debating whether to replace it or take it in to have it evaluated and fixed if possible. I had a hunch that the problem was the power supply since it had been replaced before. Not wanting to sink too much money into it, I decided to try replacing it myself. I know enough to be dangerous around such things, so I did my homework first by watching YouTube videos on replacing power supplies and looking at options online. This unit was pretty inexpensive, and I happened to catch an in-store sale which made it even better.
You have to make sure that the Amps are sufficient and that the box itself can fit inside your desktop. (It’s not an instance in which you can “overbuy” to increase your power since the power supply may be too large for your chassis.)
The problem is that the power supply is generic and every PC is unique with different configurations. The components within your desktop that require power connections aren’t color coded like the back of your CPU (green and purple for keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.). So you need to be very careful when you open the chassis to note the current connections (make a list, take pictures, shoot a video) so that you can make the same connections when installing the new one.
I also had to remove a few other components to access a few connections, including the primary fan, hard drive, and CD/DVD drive. This was stressful because of course some jiggling and extra effort were required. Ultimately it was possible but more stressful because it was more to remember and more to reassemble.
I made all of the necessary connections but still couldn’t get the PC to boot up. I retraced my steps and couldn’t figure out the problem, so I ended up taking it to an expert to be looked at. That person required a few attempts to discover that one of the connections (the 20+4 to the motherboard) wasn’t in all the way. He had to apply a bit more force than I had and wound up charging me $30. While I wanted to avoid having the PC professionally serviced, at least this got me running again and much cheaper than replacing it. My goal was to get another year out of it – fingers crossed!

I’ve been wanting this collection and have been watching Amazon for for nearly a year to see if the “Temporarily Out Of Stock” status changed. I decided to try BestBuy.com and was really surprised that it was available for purchase and also a few dollars cheaper! I’m a huge Rory fan and with this purchase, have just about everything by him on CD or DVD. It’s 10 hours of concert footage from 1976-1990 of one of the greatest guitarists ever. Yes, there’s repetition among the set lists, but the versions aren’t the same. If you’re a Rory fan, then there’s really no decision to be made – this is a must have for your collection!

A great introduction to the band!

I’m a long-time fan of classic rock but had never explored Thin Lizzy. I liked “The Boys Are Back In Town,” but can’t say that I knew much else from their catalogue. When faced with a situation like this, I first have an internal debate whether to start with a greatest hits or other compilation (in case I don’t like it that much) or start buying complete albums. Not knowing where to start, I opted for this collection of hits. I’ve kept it in the car for a week now just letting it repeat. The song selection is good – it keeps moving without going on too long. The guitar hooks keep me hooked and it’s very upbeat. Also, the sound quality is excellent. There’s nothing here for serious fans, but for people like me, I recommend this as a good place to start. Now to figure out which ones to buy next!

Very handy accessory

I've been eyeing portable batteries/power supplies for a while and finally needed to make a purchase. After comparing a few options I settled on this one based on its capacity and size and was not disappointed. The device was mostly charged right out of the packaging, but I topped it off. Walking around all day as a tourist taking photos and surfing on my phone drained my phone's battery as normal. When it reached ~30%, I plugged my phone's lightning cable into the portable battery and it began to charge. If you don't use your phone, it charges pretty quickly. But if you continue to use it while charging, it won't progress as quickly. I was worried about the charging cable being stuffed in my pocket during this process, but it came in handy -- I kept the battery in my pocket tethered to my phone, which was in my hand to use and snap photos. Only thing that would improve it would be 2 USB ports to charge 2 devices at once.

Fantastic release from the legend Paul Rodgers

I'm a long-time fan of Paul Rodgers from Free to Bad Company, The Firm, solo, and with Queen. The man can sing! I love the fact that he used musicians from the same studio where these songs were originally recorded. That's a classy move.
I saw him perform many of these songs live recently and cannot believe that he sounds as good today as he did in the early 70s.
This is a fun recording to listen to and appreciate old tunes performed as only Paul Rodgers can. My only gripe is that there are 3 album-only bonus tracks available via Amazon that are not on the CD.

What's great about it: Song selection and musicianship
What's not so great: Amazon MP3 has 3 bonus tracks

Nice upgrade from standard desktop speakers

The speakers that I've had for many years that came with my desktop were on the fritz with sound occasionally dropping from one channel.
When buying new speakers I decided to spend just a few extra dollars to add a subwoofer. I'm not a gamer, but do listen to music on my desktop. A little bit of bottom makes a big difference!
Pros: Set up was easy and quick. The subwoofer powers all 3 speakers. Separate volume and treble controls are nice as well as the headphone jack. They were must-haves for me.
Cons: The biggest is the blinding bright blue light that's on the left channel speaker. I saw it in the store and thought I could deal with it. But upon setting up at home it was clear that it was too obnoxious. Since everything else about the speakers is good, I opted for a quick home remedy - a small piece of black electrical tape over the light and all is well. Can't see the tape nor the light.

What's great about it: Sound quality, easy of setup
What's not so great: Bright blue power light is blinding
