Great Set of Coen Brothers' Films
on February 23, 2008

I really enjoy the works of the Coen Brothers. This set contains five of their first six movies. They are all kind of gruesome, but quirky. Their very first movie, entitled "Blood Simple", is out of print, so this is one of the only ways to be able to purchase it. If you like the Coen Brothers, you will like this set. I have started to collect their complete set of films and I continue to be delighted. Most of their movies are award winners for a good reason. The price makes each movie less than ten bucks, so this is a must own for any fan of these guys.
What's great about it: Five great movies in one pack. Great price.
What's not so great: They are all in slim cases.

The first DVD for Memento, released shortly after its theatrical run, was a decent disc with fine picture and sound, but somewhat weak on special features. For its second release on DVD, Columbia TriStar has made amends for those omissions. First, though, the image is flawless. The anamorphic 1.85:1 picture, even for a relatively low-budget film, is impeccable with solid blacks and colors that are vivid. The black-and-white segments are also perfectly realized, retaining the grainy look of the theatrical presentation. Equally strong is the sound, in both Dolby Digital and DTS formats, with just the right use of the surround speakers, and clear representation in the front. Dialogue and effects are distinct and show no signs of distortion. As mentioned, the supplemental features on this disc are plentiful, but it's a double-edged sword. This two-disc set includes a new commentary track on the first disc from director Christopher Nolan, but the second disc stores the majority of the extras, including production sketches and photographs, trailers, a featurette, the script, poster art, and the original story Memento Mori. Also included are a number of unadvertised features such as bootleg cover art, a props gallery, concept art, and most importantly, a chronologically ordered version of the film. All of that is undeniably impressive, and while the programmers for this disc have done everything they can to be creative, accessing these extra features is thoroughly annoying. The menus, which comprise of intricate puzzles, are so complicated that the majority of viewers might just find themselves watching the movie and ignoring all of the fascinating special features. In addition, the packaging, while unique, is not ideal, with the disc housed in a paper cover, and rather difficult to remove. Even with its flaws, this is a mighty impressive re-release.

Great Edition of a Great Movie
on February 22, 2008

This is the 2-disc special edition of this movie. It's about a guy who loses his short-term memory when he and his wife are attacked. He is out for revenge, but has trouble remembering things in order to hunt down the man who was responsible for his wife's death. The movie is told in reverse order with segments of real-time in between. It's a bit confusing, but done very well. The cool thing about this 2-disc edition is that you can watch the movie in it's original reverse order or you can watch it with the scenes pieced together again in forward chronological order. You can get a more rounded understanding of the whole story if you watch both versions of the film. The second version is hidden along with multiple other "easter eggs". If you are a fan of the film, this is the version you must own because the regular edition doesn't have the "un-reversed" version.
What's great about it: Special edition. Interesting "easter eggs".
What's not so great: None.

Great Trilogy Pack.

This is a great purchase if you liked the "Ocean's" movies. They packaged all three movies in a nice box. It's not just a cheap thin cardboard thing, but a sturdy box. It looks like they just took one of each movie off the shelf and stuck it in this box, but it's worth it if you don't have any of them and you want all three of them. The price makes it around ten bucks per movie. The box has a gambling theme and there is a list of the original eleven guys and their specialties. Good purchase for fans of the series.
What's great about it: Nice box. All three movies together.
What's not so great: They just stuck the movies in a box.

Fun Game
on February 20, 2008

This is a fun game. I like the show and I have the complete series on DVD. It has plenty of questions for people who don't watch the show as well. I know more about the show than any of my friends, but I didn't win the game. I was hoping for more trivia questions that I would know because I am a huge fan of the series. So there are enough questions to make the game enjoyable for die-hard fans as well as casual viewers. The game pieces are shaped like items from the show like a cappuccino cup and the frame around the peephole in Monica's door. Recommended for all who like to play board games, not just fans of the show.
What's great about it: Fun. Done well. Enough questions for people who don't watch the show.
What's not so great: Not enough trivia for people who watch the show.

This box set contains every episode from the first season of the situation comedy 3rd Rock From the Sun, a show that garnered star John Lithgow multiple Emmys for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Each episode is presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1. Supplemental materials include interviews with the cast, a making-of featurette, and a blooper reel.

I used to watch this show all the time when it was on TV. The cast works very well together and they have great chemistry on camera. John Lithgow delivers perfect comedic timing and superb facial expressions. Any fan of the actors, fan of the series, or fan of comedy in general will love this DVD set. I have all six seasons and they are spectacular.
What's great about it: Very funny show. Great cast.
What's not so great: None.

Very Good Complete Series Set
on February 18, 2008
Posted by: SeannerBonner
from San Diego, CA
This is a clever design for a complete series set. It's shaped like Ray's house and you take off the roof to get to the discs. It has all nine seasons of the show and a script book of the finale episode. Each season has a book that holds the discs and has episode descriptions. The show is funny. The cast works well together. This is one of Peter Boyle's best characters ever. Definitely recommended to anyone who is a fan of the show.
What's great about it: Good design. Funny show.
What's not so great: None.

Great "Complete Series" Set
on February 16, 2008

This is a great complete series set. It has all nine seasons of Seinfeld and an extra book with complete episode descriptions. There is also a bonus disc with cast interviews and stuff. The refrigerator pack also comes with magnets based on certain recurring items from the show that you can put on your own fridge. I think this refrigerator package is only available at Best Buy.
What's great about it: All nine Seinfeld seasons in one box. Hilarious show. Cool refrigerator addition. Very nice looking box.
What's not so great: The plastic part that holds the discs is a little weak and only held together with tape.

The brilliant, underrated workplace situation comedy NewsRadio has its first 29 episodes collected on this three-disc set. Each episode is presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio. Supplemental materials include entertaining and informative commentary tracks for 20 of the episodes. The commentaries feature every member of the cast (except the late Phil Hartman) and most all of the major behind-the-scenes figures including NBC head Warren Littlefield. Not all of these people appear on every commentary track. A blooper reel for season two rounds out this first-rate release.

I really liked this show when it was on TV and I enjoy watching the episodes again. Phil Hartman's character in this series is one of his best. Stephen Root does a great job delivering his lines. The cast works well together. I have all five seasons of the show and I can't stop watching it.
What's great about it: Funny. Good cast.
What's not so great: None.

Best "Complete Series" Packaging Ever
on February 13, 2008
Posted by: SeannerBonner
from San Diego, CA
This has to be the best box for a complete series set that I have ever seen. They put all of the discs into cases that look like cardboard boxes that are in the back of the truck, waiting to be delivered. There is even a little piece of cardboard that is shaped like a pallet for the boxes to sit on. The door on the back of the truck slides up just like a real delivery truck. The list of all of the episodes along with descriptions are under the hood of the truck. They are made like road maps and there is one map for each of the nine seasons. Not to mention that the show is hilarious. This set is a definite must-have for anyone who is a fan of the show.
What's great about it: Clever package. Great show.
What's not so great: Zero.

Great Claymation Set
on February 12, 2008

This was made by the same guys who created Wallace & Gromit. If you like that stuff, you'll enjoy this as well. It originally started in the U.K., but this U.S. version didn't do very well and was canceled. What they do is take the audio from actual interviews about various topics and they make scenes where animals are answering the interviewer's questions. They do a terrific job turning normal human interviews into animal discussions. They are able to take what the people say and match it to what the animals might say. It's cute enough for kids to enjoy and the content is interesting enough for adults to enjoy. I own this set as well as the original British version and I enjoy them both very much.
What's great about it: Matching conversations to animals is done very well. Funny.
What's not so great: None.
