Perfect everyday quick laptop
on December 23, 2013

from Long Beach, CA
This is perhaps my favorite non-smartphone device of all time! Let me start with the price, $200 is a steal considering how great this little laptop works with ChromeOS.
Lets start with the hardware. Perfect size and weight for on-the-go. 11 in. is just right for me to view content on display, and although it is not IPS display, it is crisp and bright enough for the average user. Sound is ok too.
It also have sufficient work space for typing. The chiclet keyboard feels raised enough and solid enough for quick and comfortable typing when I work (yes, I use this laptop for work!). My only gripes with the keyboard is the lack of caps lock key. Touchpad is average, no complaints there. Webcam is clearer than what I had expected from a budget laptop.
Love the hdmi port to play movies on tv, and the SD slot to import photos from my card. Wish it would've had a micro USB charge port like the HP 11, but oh well. I don't think battery actually gets me a full 8 hours, but it'll last an impressively long time (maybe 6 hours). Laptop is quiet and doesn't really get too hot.
For the software, Chrome OS boots up QUICK. Ridiculously quick. The OS seems very well optimized for this low-spec hardware, which creates for a premium experience. I've always used Android, but am relatively new to Google's ecosystem with using Google drive and all, but it fits well with this laptop, and syncs beautifully with my Android phone. I have so much to praise about Chrome OS, but I am not here to talk about the OS.
Now the reasoning for me only giving 4 stars may not apply to everyone. Actually, I feel like I should only dock half a star for this. Firstly, although the intel chip and 2gb RAM makes this fly when using Chrome OS, streaming via Chromecast is somewhat choppy (which is why I use HDMI)...Unacceptable, Google products should work flawlessly together regardless of specs. There are reports that the 4gb RAM version doesnt have this issue. Secondly, the styling is horrendous. But the more I use the laptop and enjoy it, the less I'm bothered with it.
In short, this is a very capable and practical little laptop thanks to the simplified and user-friendly OS. The low price adds some SERIOUS value to it. I ended up giving my iPad away to my brother because I enjoy using this Chromebook so much. I think Chrome OS and Chromebooks are headed for a bright future, and the C720 is a great step.
What's great about it: Size, quick, simple
What's not so great: Out of date style, occasional perfomance hiccups
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good BT headphones, but pricey
on March 19, 2013

I just bought these today and was only able to go on a light jog with em. So keep that in mind when reading this review.
Pros:
*East BT pairing
*Light weight and great fit!--hardly notice they are there, and they stay in place with 3 included sizes of tips and fins. Also they do not hurt like other headphone tips I've tried.
*Cord is light and do not flap around or get in the way when running.
*Buttons are simple. Power button is also used for Play/Pause and Siri function. Thought this would be confusing, but I learned how to do all 3 within 15 min. Volume buttons aren't hooked directly to phone volume, like the plantronics backbeats.
*Sweatproof--I don't know how they perform in this dept, but they have a lifetime sweatproof guarantee.
Cons:
*Pricey!
*They sound better than most BT workout in-earphones, but still lacking volume and the "thump" that I'm looking for when working out. I also think the sound quality is almost inappropriate for the price.
*MicroUSB port rubber cover gets in the way of the mircousb charger, which makes charging a bit of a process sometimes.
*Buttons are kind of small
*Sometimes I have to push and hold power button 2 or 3 times for it to turn on--kind of annoying.
I can't comment on the battery, durability, or call quality yet as I've only had these for a day, but these are my initial observations.
These headphones would be 5 stars if they had more volume and low end. Unfortunately I would not recommend them, and will probably return them based on that and the $120+ price tag. If at least one of these 2 issues are addressed, then I can believe the hype.
What's great about it: Fit, functions, features
What's not so great: Price, sound quality is better than most but still lacking.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

You know, if you have a problem with Windows 8, you shouldn't give this good product (according to other reviews)1 star just because of that. The OS is the same OS found on other laptops on the market, so you giving low rating for that makes the computer seem an inferior product in comparison to other Windows 8 laptops. Just a consideration.

Excellent for the Money!!
By BobReview from Chicago
This chromebook is great for the money and the new model is a great deal because of the upgrade to a 8.5 hour battery life, bluetooth that supports audio, and a great keyboard. I wanted something I could simply use to surf the internet and not be tied to wires etc while still being portable. An ipad obvisously has more power and capability but you really are going to pay through the nose for it while still most users do mostly internet browsing. For $200 it's hard to walk away from this deal given it has everything most users need on a daily basis to do the basics. In my opinion it is comparable to a macbook air 11" but a fifth the cost. I'm an apple fan, but I really think for the smaller macbook air and ipads you pay a premium for a product that is still limited to larger macs and other pcs. Obviously the chromebook is more limited but packs in all the important things most consumers need to make it a great value worth picking up. To wrap up I was stand offish of these because they still lacked the battery life, bluetooth, and usb 3.0. This brand new model now has all those things which I think make it much more usable and convenient.

Any issues with 2GB of RAM?
November 23, 2013
The only thing keeping me from jumping at this Chromebook is the 2GB RAM. I know I can grab a 4GB RAM model for $249, but the $199 price tag is what makes it special. I'm mostly concerned about lag while browsing graphic-intensive websites, or streaming youtube/netflix. I know the ARM processors in the other Chromebooks were having these issues, but how is the Haswell in this one?

UPDATE from my review.
January 22, 2014
It's been about 2 months now and I STILL love this thing. I carry it with me everywhere I go. I've gotten over the fact that the body design is ugly. This little computer is so simple, practical, and inexpensive that it has become my favorite ALL TIME electronics purchase ever! That's saying a lot since I consider myself a gadget enthusiast.
I must note that viewing angles on the screen is pretty bad, but for sitting on your lap or on a desk in front of you, it's fine. I've done work with this laptop using my work's web-based database, and excel (Google sheets), this thing keeps up with windows. But I don't really recommend working with Google docs, because it needs to be more refined.
I found that I use Google drive more often now. I store LOTS of pictures either uploaded directly from my smartphone, or from an SD card. I carry this laptop along with my DSLR camera in a camera sling bag. So if I wanted to, I can take pics out and about, then plop the SD card into the Chromebook which is tethered to my phone. From there, I can store, share and edit quality photos! Not that I do this often, but it's just cool that I can on the go--and out of a $200 laptop!
For those who has bought into the Google ecosystem, this laptop is a very inexpensive must have. For those who haven't bought in, it is a great low-maintenance laptop for surfing and watching youtube/netflix.

Can't take these off my head! :-)

BASS, BASS, AND MORE BASS!
Got these on sale for $99...best bang for your buck for BT headphones. Sound quality is great. They compare to Bose, and blow the Beats by Dre out of the water. I'd say they are on par with Bose; Bose has better clarity and high/mid end, but these Sony headphones absolutely kills the competition with low end. That is why I love these headphones; the bass is what I'm looking for when I'm working out.
As far as working out, these are great. They stay on your head. I went on a 3 mile jog and had to adjust them very minimally; I'd say the same amount that I adjust my Jaybird Bluebuds X...which are earbuds designed for workouts.
2 things I don't like: 1) They're not sweat proof...no biggie, I paid $12 for a 2 year protection plan. 2) They are huge! Noticeably bigger than the Beats Solo 2...mainly due to the extra thick cushion that adds to the comfort and sound. I think I would have preferred a thinner cushion bc it draws a lot of attention as it is now.
Random things I like: 1) Phone/media player control rocker switch. This is nifty. Where it's located, it's real easy to access and slide to control tracks/answer calls. 2) Battery life on these headphones is great. It's rated at 20 hrs, which I haven't tested yet, but it seems like it's been a real long time since last charge. My Jaybirds only last about 4 hrs when it was advertised for 8 hrs. 3) The ear hole in the cushion is large so that your whole ear lobes fit into it. This prevents slip off, and allows more comfort. 4) NFC connectivity allows you to just tap a compatible NFC device to connect it.

These headphones were on sale for 2 days from 11/19-11/20. I managed to scoop them up during this period for $99...If they are going on sale again on Thanksgiving day and Black Friday, that is great! I recommend you get it at that price.

Are these also compatible with Apple products?

I am considering these as a xmas gift for my bf. His personal cell is a Samsung S5, but his work phone is an iphone6. He uses both for headphones, so I'd like a pair that is compatible with both devices. Considering these or the wireless Bose.... Thanks
Yes, I'm using it with an iphone 5s and an Apple watch. I really do recommend these if your bf likes bass. I'd say the Bose has better clarity, but the Sony is not bad at all. Plus the blows the Bose out of the water in terms of bass, and $$.

Geek squad protection... need honest answer...

I am interested in these headphones. I plan on keeping these for a good three years. Does the Geek squad protection cover accidental handling damage like if I drop them and they break and or I spill coke on them would it cover that OR just an extended warranty as long as they are not damaged by accidental breakage/damage???
No, they are just extended warranty. I'm not sure why they don't offer accidental damage coverage, but I checked and they do not.

Are these headphones noise cancelling?

No they are not. But the cushion design allows noise isolation, meaning you will hear very little ambient noise, if any.

Is this Chromebook compatible with PDF docs?

I am looking to use it for business, would like to know if its compatible with PDF?

Mainly because I will be needing to download, edit and print PDF forms from the Secretary of State.
Yes it's PDF compatible. But keep in mind that this is a light work computer, meaning that although it can do what you need it to do, I wouldn't recommend it for heavy duty work. I would only recommend this for surfing, storing pictures (in the cloud), youtube, and light work (documents here and there).
