Works great, but can be a painful install
on April 4, 2017

from KCMO
Disclaimer - I received the WeBoost Eqo cell phone extender in exchange for my fair and honest review.
TL;DR - if you live in a poor signal area and your carrier is good with you using a range extender, this is worth investing into. If you don't have problems with calls and data connectivity, then you can probably pass on this. I do recommend it for those that need it, however.
Now for my review and "my not recommended but it worked pretty great" installation:
So you're sitting at home, the WiFi works great, but the moment you receive a call, the person at the other end of the line tells you "He---can---re y-------cu----n an----t." So you go outside to use your phone like you always do. Annoying, right?
That's where the WeBoost Eqo comes into play. This cell phone extender is designed to work magic when it comes to not only your voice signal (GSM, CDMA, and LTE technologies), but your data signal as well.
Setup isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world, but it is what it is - you have a base station, an inside antenna, an outside antenna with a short lead cable attached to it, and coax cabling for both antennas (6 foot for the outside, 25 foot for inside).
You'll go through a registration process with WeBoost and your cellphone provider before you actually set the hardware up. Fill out a form and you're done. Straighten out your cabling and make your runs, then hook everything together (the 25 foot cable translates to about 15 feet between the base station and the inside antenna, while the outside antenna has a lead cord running into it, giving you an extra couple of feet to play with). Make sure you get those SMA screw connections tight, as loose connections lead to signal loss.
For antenna installation, I placed the outside antenna in my attic, with the flat side of the antenna directed toward the nearest cell phone tower as I wanted it out of sight/out of mind. The base station was placed in a closet where my attic access is. The inside antenna was placed in a hallway with a currently unused wall box to hide wiring, and near where the lowest signal quality in my home is.
WeBoost recommends installing the antenna in a windows if you have what's known as low-E glass; if you have EnergyStar™-rated windows, chances are you have low-E glass. Otherwise, you can place the base station on a window sill if you have standard glass windows.
Once you're all wired up, power up the base station and wait for the unit to start up. You'll see a red light if signals are unusable or a green light when it has a solid connection with any cell phone towers in your area. Keep in mind this works with ALL CARRIERS and all current technologies - CDMA, GSM, and LTE - so just because it gets a green light doesn't mean that your carrier will necessarily work.
I tested my unit with Verizon. I'm in a 1-2 bar area on my Moto Z Play and 2-3 bar area on my iPhone 6s. Voice quality over LTE is generally very good, voice quality over CDMA is generally very good. Over the better part of a week, I noticed no voice issues at all. LTE download speeds average 28 mbps on the iPhone and 20 mbps on the Z Play with around 50ms of latency, and CDMA download speeds average about 720 kbps on both phones with around 140ms of latency. After setting up the WeBoost, both phones had 4 bars. Download speeds on the iPhone remained the same, download speeds on the Z Play increased on LTE to 25 mbps, and latencies increased by around 2 ms on average. All speed tests were run using the nPerf speed test with a connection to the same server (10gb/s bandwidth). For comparison, a wired speed test using Comcast 250/25 internet ran 294 down and 31 up with a latency of 33 ms.
The best part of setting up this booster is that it's pretty much automatic. There aren't any setup screens. You can text a picture of a code on the basestation itself to register the unit.
The only downside is physical installation. I'd like to see it come with longer coax cables for internal antenna placement (50 and 75 foot cables along with the 25 foot cable, and I'd say an SMA to SMA connector to make that 75 foot run, but since those connectors are generally lossy, it's gotta be solid cables). I'd like to see an option for white or beige cables as well, to help hide them in the room those cables are placed in. I'd also like to see it come with a small wrench in the package for tightening those connectors, and a power supply that both takes advantage of the threads on the outside of the connector on the base station and that also has a longer cord - or maybe just integrate power into the base station so where's one less wall wart or line lump. The cabling is a bigger issue to me than to most people though.
Still, this works pretty well. Since Best Buy doesn't allow half-star ratings, I give it 5 stars.

Decent enough controller.

My problem with the 360 controller was always the placement of the analog sticks. I prefer the PlayStation layout, but the Xbox sticks always worked better. This is true across every generation of these consoles.
This particular one I picked up also came with the Windows adapter, which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. Unlike knockoff adapters, this one supports 4 controllers simultaneously within any game that supports the Xinput standard - pretty much every game with joystick support since 2008. It's also supported in older games that use the DirectInput, though not as well.
Don't expect this to work with other platforms outside of Windows without some work (macOS) or at all (non-rooted Android). While wired Xinput controllers work with my Sony XBR850C (Marshmallow firmware), this doesn't even show up in AIDA64 as connected to the TV. Still, for my intended usage (console-style games and emulation on the big screen), this works great; the only thing blasphemous with this is playing PlayStation and PS2 games with Xbox controllers, but since we live in interesting times these days, why not?
If you're a PC gamer, you don't want to spend money on Xbox One controllers (or PS3/PS4 controllers for that matter), you don't wired controllers (such as the excellent Logitech F310), and you want a wireless controller set that supports more than one player, this is what you want. However, if you're good with spending a little more and your PC has a Bluetooth adapter with great range, the Xbox One and PS4 controllers may be a better option.

A luxury WiFi system with shortcomings
on February 8, 2017
Posted by: BillFromKC
from KCMO
Please note that I was given one of these from Best Buy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Also, this is a very long review, so the TL;DR summary is that it’s a good option for those looking at an easy to configure mesh network with good overall performance but it’s also missing usability features that should be available at its price point, such as the ability to add network storage directly to the system. Alexa connectivity helps somewhat but due to features you can get elsewhere, I think it’s overpriced and I'm slightly disappointed. I'd recommend it for those that only want the WiFi connection and nothing more, but for those that want more from their WiFi, I don't recommend it. (Best Buy doesn't have a "maybe" option.)
------------------------------------
Linksys Velop is more than a mesh WiFi system for your home. It’s a luxury WiFi system. While it’s not the fastest or most complete solution out there, it does solve these problems:
1) WiFi coverage in large homes
2) WiFi connectivity for lots of wireless devices
3) “Ugly Router” issues
I’m going to start with the hardware itself. Each Velop node is small and has a distinct modern style that blends in with most décor. Connections, the power switch, and the reset button are recessed on the underside of each node, with a slot for cable management; each node features two auto-sensing gigabit Ethernet ports.
Inside each node resides a quad-core processor that manages connectivity and runs the standard security things a router does. Keep in mind that none of the nodes have USB or eSATA ports, so you won’t be able to use the Velop system as a file server, DLNA media server, or print server.
The “tri-band” WiFi connectivity each node is comprised of a 2.4 GHz radio capable of 400 mbps and two 5 GHz radios capable of 867 mbps each. One of the two 5 GHz radios is used for the “backhaul”, or node-to-node connection, meaning that each node has an aggregate total of 1267 mbps available for connection to your devices.
However, if it’s something you’re able to do in your home, Velop has a neat trick up its sleeve – you can use Ethernet network infrastructure or power line networking (with appropriate adapters, of course) as the backhaul connection between nodes, therefore opening up both 5 GHz radios on each node for communication with your WiFi devices. You’ll still have to go through the standard setup procedure, but once that’s done, it’s just a matter of plugging the Velop nodes into your wired home network. You can even mix and match wired and wireless nodes if you need to.
Setup is quite simple thanks to the Linksys app, as long as you have a smartphone or tablet with Bluetooth LE; this includes every iPhone since the 4s, every iPad since the 3rd generation model, iPod Touch 5th and 6th generation models, and a majority of Android phones since 2013. Your phone connects to the router and then configures the first node automatically through the app. You’ll want to connect the node to the modem your internet provider gave you directly; if you have a stand-alone router, you can unhook it and put it away for now. During the setup process, the only two things the Velop asks you to do are to tell it if it’s connected to a stand-alone modem or a gateway router device, and to give the wireless network a name and a password. After configuring the first node, you’ll configure any additional nodes. This configuration is automatic and takes a few moments. Once you’re done adding nodes (in theory, it supports an infinite number of nodes, and Linksys has stated it’s tested up to six nodes in the online support documentation), it will download updated firmware for the nodes and restart them all. At that point, you’re done messing with it and everything is ready to use.
In terms of performance, it works pretty well. I was able to maintain download speeds of 275 mbps using my iPhone 6s and 115 mbps with my Moto Z Play. Compared to both a Linksys EA7500 and a Linksys WRT3200ACM, this stays consistently faster throughout my house, but when I’m within about 20 feet of the either of the stand-alone routers, I do hit faster wireless speeds. (Each Velop node features a 2x2 AC867 connection, while the EA7500 is a 3x3 AC1300 connection and the WRT3200ACM is a 3x3 wideband AC2600 connection.)
Now for the drawbacks:
First thing I noticed is there is no way to add storage to this router system, either via internal hard drive (think Apple AirPort Time Capsule) or USB (think every midrange stand-alone router on the market today). Also, this means there is no easy way to add your old USB-only printer to the network without leaving a computer on 24/7 to function as a print server or purchasing a separate USB printer network bridge device.
My second problem with Velop is how configurable the system is. I am a power user when it comes to all my electronics. With my network equipment, I like to have control over what my IP range is. I like to set static IP addresses over devices that may need configuration or reconfiguration later. I also like – no, LOVE – web-based setup options. This app-only thing is actually annoying. The inability to configure the system as a set of access points so it can be used with a router that features built-in network storage capabilities or a print server is a major blow in my book; many midrange and high-end routers manufactured with these capabilities in the last few years can comfortably handle a gigabit connection to the internet via wired ports but lack wireless connectivity that can break 150 mbps. If this could be configured to be a set of mesh access points you could attach to your existing router, I’d happily up my score and you guys would be saving routers from the landfill. This would make Velop more attractive to people that use the additional features their current routers have. This would also make Velop more attractive to small to medium offices looking for an easy way to add WiFi connectivity to existing infrastructure, since it does compete with enterprise-grade gear at its price points.
Speaking of, my final problem with Velop is price. Had it been able to do more than just WiFi, the price points would be justifiable.
All in all, I’m giving scoring Velop at 3 stars. Performance is pretty good overall, but it just lacks features it should have at it’s price points. If you’re looking for fast connectivity and incredibly easy setup, it’s a good option. If you’re a power user like myself however, or if you do more with your existing router than just connect to the internet, even Linksys makes better options for you if you’re willing to do a little work.

Serves its purpose well

Disclaimer - I received this product at no cost for a fair and unbiased review.
The Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge Rockstar (I'll refer to it as Rockstar from here on out) is a product that shouldn't exist. Having said that, it's also a product that should have come out when Apple released the iPhone 5, iPad 4th gen, and iPad Mini.
It does what it does very well. You plug a pair of Lightning-based headphones into one of the two ports on the Rockstar, your Lightning cable in the other port, and connect it to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running the current version of iOS (10.2 as of this writing). The iDevice will see the dongle as a pair of headphones that can also charge the device.
I tested this with A9-based iPhones (6s, 6s Plus, and SE) and the A7-based iPad Air, all running 10.2 with a pair of Bose headphones that connect via Lightning. There was zero performance difference between having them connected with and without the dongle.
My only disappointment with this cable is the fact that it's not really designed to be used on-the-go. You can leave it connected to your phone, but it feels like it'll be damaged if it's connected to your phone and in your pocket. Otherwise, I don't have any complaints about the cable. If I were to make a suggestion to Belkin for a redesign, I'd go with a "U"-shaped connector so this adapter rests on the back side of the phone, instead of hanging off of it, so people on the go can keep it handy.
Please keep in mind that devices that aren't Lightning audio will not work with this dongle. That means no USB syncing, no camera connection kit functionality for SD cards, USB keyboards, and USB to MIDI adapters, and no digital AV or VGA adapter functionality. I didn't try a USB headset or USB audio adapter with the camera connection kit. This adapter is only for audio.
All in all, it does what it needs to do. A little expensive for what it is, but it works very well.

This is one Ninja you'll want in your kitchen
on January 3, 2017
Posted by: BillFromKC
from KCMO
Disclaimer - I received this product from Best Buy in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
So when I see the Ninja brand, I generally think to myself "this is powerful but a bit underwhelming when it comes to performance." I've owned a couple of Ninja products in the past, and while they worked, they didn't work as well as I expected for the specs they boasted (1000 watt motors, 3 pairs of blades, etc).
Not the Blendmax Duo.
Boasting the kind of power and requiring the kind of wattage that makes the lights throughout your home dim as it runs, the Blendmax Duo has the swagger to take on and destroy anything you put inside of the 88 ounce pitcher or any of the smoothie cups.
In under a minute, it'll take strawberries, frozen mango, and ice and give you a smoothie that goes up against anything you'd get at a place that charges $5-something for the same thing. If you like frozen margaritas or daiquiris, it won't take very long for this to get them just right - and as an added bonus, you can make yours with some true top-shelf liquors instead of the cheap stuff. Milkshakes also come out in a hurry, with the consistency of a real ice cream shop and not a fast food drive-thru.
Now keep in mind that with great power comes the ability to trip circuits - don't operate this and a toaster at the same time (my wife learned that lesson the hard way). Don't use this with a thin extension cord; the power draw this blender has will cause typical household cords to fail miserably. Also, I didn't throw my iPhone into the pitcher to find out what would happen (there are a series of web videos about this), but I'm pretty sure that would be a not-so-good idea if you were to try that yourself.
All in all, I have to say that Ninja impressed me with the BlendMax Duo. The combination of Herculean power with the flexibility afforded by the system has truly impressed me. I use this at least once every three days, versus every once in a while for my previous Ninja blender or maybe once a year for the blender I received before that. The auto-IQ functionality takes the guesswork out of making drinks, and having both blending cups (similar to the machines named after projectiles) and a traditional pitcher means you can throw anything at this machine and it'll return a smooth, delicious beverage.

Great monitor, though missing a few features
on January 3, 2017
Posted by: BillFromKC
from KCMO
So I'm rating this monitor as if I had paid full price for it, not picked it up as a Black Friday purchase with gift cards to make it even less expensive.
This screen from HP has a lot going for it. It's extremely stylish, very thin, has plenty of input options for a computer monitor, and the picture is great. It's bright, the black levels are good, and it doesn't ghost like some screens do.
With all of its positives, it does have a couple of negatives that wouldn't necessarily be deal breakers for other people. First, it lacks DisplayPort and DVI. Second, there is no audio output for HDMI connections, so don't plan on using this screen for both your monitor and a TV screen with an external tuner. Third, and probably the biggest deal breaker for me, is the lack of VESA mounting points; most computer monitors come with a 75x75 or 100x100 pattern on the back for third-party stands or multi-mounts, but this screen does not.
All in all, it's not a bad monitor. Not my favorite, but for what I paid for it, you can't beat the value.

Big flash drive for little dough

It does everything you want a flash drive to do and then some. What's truly great about it, however, is you can load it with a boatload of movies and connect it to a device capable of running as a either a file server or a DLNA server (such as a modern mid-range or high-end router), and you then negate the need to leave a PC running as a home media server.

This is the new Anti-iPhone
on November 9, 2016
Posted by: BillFromKC
from KCMO
(Please note I mention other phones for comparison purposes. I also mention other Moto Z phones in relation to the Moto Mods, since this feature set is common between the Z, Z Force, and Z Play phones. I'm also very much an iOS person, though I'm okay with Android.)
I had to get a phone for work, and wanted to buy an Android device since I already have an iPhone for personal use and my employer has apps on both platforms. I've already ruled out Samsung because of ongoing battery issues on a couple of their phone lines, and most other devices on Verizon in this price range really were not worth purchasing in my opinion because of the limited feature set and performance; I'm also spoiled by the performance of my iPhone 6s and how it does things instantly. My choices ended up being between this and a Moto G unlocked; because of a Verizon Edge deal on this phone, I wound up going with the Z Play.
First, the good. Oh man there is lots of good. The AMOLED screen is crisp and clear, with color reproduction nearly as good as my wife's iPhone 6s Plus and my iPhone 6s. The camera is good for a phone in this price range; not quite as good as the camera in the iPhone SE (which is the same camera in the iPhone 6s), not quite as good as the camera in last year's Samsung phones, but still an excellent camera for general usage. USB C connectivity for charging is a huge step up from the Micro USB ports still commonly found on most Android handsets.
Audio playback quality through the headset jack is actually very good, with great balance from the lows to the highs using different headsets (Sony ZX300, Beats Solo first gen, Apple EarPods, and Seinheiser HD280) using different media sources (Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, and VUDU), something I don't expect through Android handsets (most I've listened to always had paper-thin bass, with even the most bass-heavy headphones and music). The headset jack is something to keep in mind when you buy this phone; it does not come with headphones, so you'll either need to reuse your old headset or buy a new pair when you buy this phone.
Call quality is great; this phone supports LTE Voice on Verizon's network, so Verizon to Verizon calls are awesome quality, and standard phone calls to phones on other carriers and providers are still good.
Also, battery life is amazing - I managed to keep it awake and going for 4 hours on social media and email, and the battery only dropped around 25% during that time - so going a full day shouldn't be much of an issue. And if you need to charge your phone, the Turbo Charging feature (based on Qualcomm's fast charging technologies) is rocket fast when getting your phone to a usable percentage of battery life.
What clearly sets this phone (along with the other Moto Z series phones) apart from everything else on the market is the modularity through Moto Mods; if you want to upgrade audio, battery, or camera, or add a projector, just snap it on the back. While the modularity isn't for everyone, it's great for those that decide they need a bigger battery, wireless charging, or a better camera later on. This phone won't be limited to just these attachments either; the snapback really has endless possibilities since it can move audio, data, video, and more.
The design of the phone is also pretty great. It reminds me of the iPhone 4 and 4s, with a solid glass back and a metal band around the side; unlike the iPhone 4 and 4s, however, that metal band is anodized aluminum instead of stainless steel. The snap back also adds an easy way to customize your device when you're not using the Moto Mods; If you decide to go "caseless", you can still protect the back of your phone with one of dozens of back covers made from materials ranging from soft plastics to leather to actual wood. In a way, it's the easiest way to make the phone yours.
The drawbacks to this particular phone are very few. Motorola chose to go with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 instead of the Snapdragon 820 series chips many other phones in this class use, which means 4k video recording does suffer somewhat and overall 3D graphics performance isn't as fast as what others in this class are. For most games, however, you won't notice much of a difference between the 625 and the 820 series, or other high-end phone chipsets.
For those of you that are moving from micro USB to USB-C, you get to experience the same growing pains that iPhone users went through with going from 30 pin to Lightning connectors; I will tell you this, though - like with the iPhone users moving to the new connector, the USB-C connector is a HUGE improvement over micro USB with all that it does, especially the reversible connector. The warning I have to give you all with USB-C, however, is you need to choose your cables carefully; for the time being, I'd only get my USB-C cables from reputable retailers like Best Buy.
If you choose to use the fingerprint scanner, it does get in the way sometimes. It's accurate though, so it's worth using.
Finally, the last issue is with software; the clock has a habit of flashing up every minute while setting on your desk or nightstand; while the lock screen display and lift to wake can be disabled, it's annoying if you don't know where to took (Moto app>Display). I've put into my review of the app on Google Play that addresses this issue, and Motorola is good about addressing software issues with their devices.
For those that want the new anti-iPhone and are looking for a good alternative to Samesong, I can highly recommend the Moto Z series without hesitation. If you don't need the absolute fastest model, the Z Play is great. It's also the only Z series phone that has a headphone jack, so you won't have to deal with either upgrading to Bluetooth or dealing with dongles for headphones. For me though, as an iPhone user, it's not enough for me to switch my primary mobile platform at this time.

About as overkill as a router can get
on November 7, 2016
Posted by: BillFromKC
from KCMO
Please note that I was given one of these to review from Best Buy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Having gone through several routers for testing purposes, I can attest that the Linksys WRT series are completely over-engineered because they can be. This isn't just for the current lineup, including the WRT3200ACS that this review is for, but even among older WRT models, including the WRT54G/GS/GL that nearly all of us owned at one point or another (and some of us still use to this day).
What sets the current WRT series apart from nearly every other router on the market today is the current WRT router lineup is built for the tinkerer. Nearly every router on the market is generally limited to stock firmware because of either a limitation of the hardware itself, a security feature designed to prevent one from loading aftermarket firmware without a lot of work done to the router to allow aftermarket firmware, or zero support for the hardware from the open-source firmware community. The WRT series, on the other hand, has support from Linksys itself when it comes to aftermarket firmware; these routers are designed from the ground up to support aftermarket firmwares from the groups that publish DD-WRT, OpenWRT, and Tomato, among the dozens of others out there that are both open/free-to-use and not free to use. This is truly the enthusiast line of routers.
As for the WRT3200ACS, what sets it apart from other models in the lineup is it's absolute speed. Like the 1200 and 1900 models, the 3200 has 5 gigabit ethernet ports (1 WAN and 4 LAN), one USB 3 port, and one USB 2/eSATA combo port. What sets it apart is it's wifi capabilities are much, much faster than the other models in this lineup. The 2.4GHz band covers your B, G, and N devices and is capable of speeds up to 600 megabits a second, and gives you great range. The 5GHz band covers A, N, and AC devices and is capable of speeds up to 2600 megabits per second. Throughput speeds over wireless do vary with devices, distance from the router, and environment. As an example, my iPhone 6s connected to this router would run around 97 mbps download on 2.4GHz N and would peg my internet connection - Comcast Extreme 250 - on 5GHz AC going both ways using the NPerf speediest on multiple servers. Connection speeds were definitely limited by other devices in my home; my Acer Iconia One 8 tablet ran around 70 down on 2.4GHz N and around 135 down on 5GHz N. In terms of coverage, I'd consider it good but not great; if you need a lot of coverage, look at Linksys' RangeMax line of routers instead. For the typical suburban home though, this router is fine. Do keep in mind, however, that you can always upgrade the antennas with this router to antennas with higher gain, or for special purpose installations such as wireless backhaul between offices, you can even use directional antennas.
One of the coolest features of recent Linksys routers is the capability these routers have functioning as file and media servers. The WRT series allows you to use both USB and eSATA hard drives, a feature you won't find in any other router. The stock firmware supports HFS+ (Macintosh), NTFS (Windows operating systems), and FAT32 (compatible with most OSes) hard drives and flash drives. I saw single drive transfer rates on both eSATA and USB of around 65 megabytes per minute no matter what format the drive was in. DLNA media functionality using Kodi on both a FireTV Stick and Android TV was easy to configure and use.
If there's any drawback to this router, it's the fact you have to install aftermarket firmware to really take advantage of everything the hardware can do. The stock firmware doesn't really have too many settings outside of what your regular router does, but aftermarket firmware can turn this router into anything from a standard access point to a VPN endpoint for your home or office, to a hosted hotspot in your café, to a full web server. The possibilities are endless with this device.
All in all, if you want a highly customizable router that can do nearly everything, this would be it.

Nifty little machine for hard floor cleaning
on September 16, 2016
Posted by: BillFromKC
from Kansas City, MO
Disclaimer - I was given this product in exchange to test it for a fair and honest review.
The TL;DR (or short) version:
I think the Bissell CrossWave is the ultimate hard surface cleaning machine. While it's marketing material claims it will clean any flooring surface, I felt it excelled with hardwood, tile, linoleum, and even bare cement, but came up short with carpet. It's easy to set up and easy to clean after use - no tools required in either case. It has a lot of nice touches that make it a good all-around cleaning machine. There are a couple of weak spots that come from what I feel is a design flaw, but otherwise it's a solid way to cut down on the amount of time one spends on floor care.
The long version:
The Bissell CrossWave is the floor care machine I've been waiting for for years. It's a great way to vacuum and "power mop" your floors at the same time, and - in my case, at least - extract an unexpected amount of filth from your floors.
In terms of unboxing and initial setup, it couldn't have been easier. The CrossWave comes mostly assembled - just insert the handle, assemble the storage tray, mix up a container of solution, and plug it in. You're ready to go at that point. Other things that come in the box are cleaning solutions for hardwood floors and general purpose usage, a second hard surface/carpet combination brush (one comes preinstalled in the unit), and a wood floor brush. Disassembly of the CrossWave for cleaning the unit is just as simple as the initial assembly is - the dirty water and debris collection bin pops out once you hit a button and the clear roller brush cover and the roller brush pop out the front of the unit with ease. Did I mention you don't need tools to assemble this machine?
Using it is also simple. The handle has three controls on it - a trigger to dispense cleaning solution, and mode buttons for carpet and hard surface that double as the machine's power buttons. Press them to power the unit up or switch modes; a bright white LED in each button indicates which mode is active. Press the active mode button again to power it off. The only difference between the two modes, btw - carpet mode dispenses cleaning solution twice as fast as hard surface mode does. To activate the roller brush, tilt the unit back; tilt it forward to turn the roller brush off.
When it comes to cleaning performance, its hard surface cleaning amazed me. It's performance on carpet was adequate, but not enough to wow me.
I started on ceramic tile using the combo brush and general purpose cleaner. Not only did it get dirt off my kitchen floor that I didn't know was there, but now I know where all my scratched and cracked tiles are. I also used it to clean the area where my stove sits, and it got things off the floor that I'd normally need some sort of scraper to get.
I then moved to hardwood, using the same brush and cleaner since this was about getting the floors cleaned. Even with the standard cleaner, I noticed my flooring didn't look as dull. It also managed to get drywall dust off the floor that didn't come up during either regular moping or while using a disposable wet pad mop.
I then tried carpet, again with the same cleaner and brush combination. I was disappointed that it didn't do much for an old stain that normally sits under a chair, but I did find that fresh spills come right out with ease.
Finally, I took it to my basement to clean some old, abused linoleum. While it didn't make it look brand new, a few passes with the cleaner did bring back some of the original shine this tile had.
The one thing all the hard surfaces had in common was the amount of filth I got off of them. The wastewater was definitely filthy, as evidenced by the fact that it was grey and you couldn't see through it. From both the tile and hardwood floors, there was also sediment that collected in the bottom of the wastewater container. The water from the carpet was also a little grey, but not nearly as filthy as the water from the hard surfaces.
The CrossWave does have a lot of positives going for it. The aforementioned tool-less assembly and disassembly makes cleanup easy. Roller brushes are dead simple to swap. The cleaning solution container has markings on it to make mixing solution painless. The unit also has an LED headlight on it that activates while you're dispensing solution. The biggest positive, however, is the hard surface cleaning performance. You even don't need to vacuum while you use it to clean floors.
There are a few negatives though. Personally, I think the power cord is a little short; my living room is 16x20, my kitchen is 12x5x25, and I had to move where it was plugged in in both rooms in order to completely clean them both completely. The carpet cleaning performance is okay with fresh spots but it lacks the ummph to clean older spots. Also, the way the filter assembly is designed, some dry debris does get caught in the pre-filter; however, the pre-filter is at least designed to be cleaned every time. Also, on the roller brushes, I do understand the pull tab side will never be flush with the edge, but that doesn't mean the unit can't be redesigned where the drive side of the roller brush can approach the edge of the brush roll housing. While it does get close to edges, there's still a small gap between the wall and where it cleans.
All in all, I thought the CrossWave was a very solid idea and an even more solid execution. Being able to vacuum and "power mop" at the same time cut my kitchen floor cleaning time down by at least 33%, if not more. The job it did on my hardwood was great, and the amount of filth it got off my floor makes me wonder how I ever thought the floors were clean before using this machine. At it's recommended price point, I can happily recommend the CrossWave to anyone who has a lot of hard surface flooring, hates traditional mopping as much as I do, and finds that wet pad mops don't work as well as advertised.

This TV has an ATSC tuner.

There's no guarantee that ATSC tuners will work with ClearQAM cable channels, and even so, the greater majority of cable providers now scramble all cable channels. Including OTA channels. Because the FCC changed the rules and they're allowed to do this now.

Big Time 3-D problems
By Mike
I am writing to review the “XBR-55X850C”. HOWEVER, I have read multiple web pages that state this problem is happening with all Sony 3-D televisions, in the United States AND Europe, and that customers are not receiving ANY customer service, or any help from Sony whatsoever.
I have called 3 times and have been hung up on each time.
So, if you are looking for a great 3-D experience and excellent SONY customer service, LOOK ELSEWHERE. Sony rolled out an update for this television at the end of November of 2015. After the update, when viewing 3-D content, the display mode function of the current screen is continuously showing the current screen mode of the television. ALL THE TIME. Coming in and out up to 7 times a minute.
So, while watching a 3-D movie, every 5 to 60 seconds, the words “Wide Mode Full” flashes on the screen in the lower left hand corner. It NEVER stops. Sony is aware of this problem, unfortunately, Sony customer service is rude & unhelpful with this issue. They claim that “Sony is aware of this and is working on an update”. When I asked when the update would be released, Sony representatives claim they do not know when this update will be available.
Every Sony representative has hung up on me after not being able to satisfactorily answer the simplest of questions.
Anyone looking for a great 3-D experience, look elsewhere. Sony does not care about this problem. After all, they already have our money.
If you think this is the same old Sony with great products, high standards, and great customer service, THINK AGAIN! This is not your father’s Sony. This is the new, corporate Sony that just wants your money.
Everyone out there looking for a good 3-D T.V. should stick with Samsung. I wish I did. I thought I was “upgrading” from Samsung to Sony.

...things get fixed after they get broken. I have this TV as well, and customer service people have no idea when Android Marshmallow will hit this TV set, let alone any of the other 2015 Sony TVs. Considering the Google Nexus Player got borked by the update though, that's probably a good thing the update hasn't hit yet.

Hard To Program
By FortFun2 from Illinois
Found it is difficult, not intuitive, to program. Others have said if you loose power all your programming is lost, but we haven't lost power yet so can't confirm. I just wanted it to run when I left the house without a set program and contacting Bissell just led to more confusion. But, once I got it working I was impressed with the amount of pet hair it removed.

if your Blu-Ray player isn't connected to the internet, connect it to the internet and update its firmware. That should fix all your issues.

This is the future of WiFi
By neio11
I threw (recycled) away my wifi extenders plus I am now able connect a device with an ethernet cable without having to run cables through the walls because each node has 2 ethernet ports. So for instance, I have one node connected to my modem and an ethernet switch. My 2nd node in another room is connected to an NVR for my security cameras. The speed through the nodes is surprisingly fast. The NVR is capturing HD videos from 3 cameras and it seems to capture fine. The 3rd node is in my living room area. The whole house is covered! Please put a password on your wifi otherwise you'll be supplying FREE wifi for your neighbors. I can have full internet access from 3-4 houses away from my house. I thought installation would be a pain considering you have to setup each node. Well, I shouldn't say "have to" because you don't have to use all 3 nodes. You can use only 1 or 2 and give the 3rd to me. haha. No but setup is a breeze! The only thing is that you have to use a smart device such as a tablet or phone, to do the setup. Velop currently doesn't support PC-based setup but I hope Linksys changes that especially for us "techies"!!! It works with Alexa. You can ask #Alexa what the wifi password is... so they say. I haven't had much success with it yet. It looks clean and neat. It doesn't all those antennas sticking out of it which makes it aesthetically pleasing.
I'm loving so far!

...password on your WiFi network. In fact, it's one of three things it asks when you set up the parent node, the other two being "Do you connect directly to the internet or through a modem/router device provided by your ISP?" and what to call your wireless network.

Blazing Speed, Best In Class Performance!
By gadgetguy11
The Linksys - Velop Tri-Band Whole Home Wi-Fi System (3-pack) is packaged in a beautiful & functional box with magnetic closure - it exudes quality! Each Node is protected individually. Just looking at the box, you expect a premium, esoteric product... & Linksys delivers that & more in spades! The shapely Nodes are beautiful & blend with any decorating style.
Simple set-up via the Linksys iOS or Android App. Within minutes, you are ready to go online.
As shown in attached photo, I have 90 wireless devices utilized over 5,000 sq feet / 3 floors: this is a challenging application for high speed Wi-Fi that includes: connected major appliances; BAS ceiling fans & Haiku Wi-Fi connected lights; Wi-Fi Thermostats; Netatmo Wi-Fi Weather Station; 65 Hue Lights; Connected exterior door locks; Wink Wi-Fi connected devices; connected iDevices, Nest & Arlo cameras; iPads; iPhones & computers. Finally, Streaming from 4) Apple TV's; Nixplay Wi-Fi Photo Frames.
And now the Results:
Velop delivers the fastest Wi-Fi speed I have ever experienced and does so consistently! The attached screen capture shows 349 Mbps Download / 23 Mbps Upload. These are WIRELESS speeds!! I pay for 300 Mbps Download / 30 Mbps Upload & our internet service provider generally delivers 300 - 360 Download & 22 - 32 Upload.
Velop is the only Wi-Fi System I have found to date that actually delivers this sustainable speed and does not randomly disconnect the many devices.
High power Wi-Fi requires a high current source. Each of the 3) square white power supplies produce 12 Volt, 2 Amp output! 24VA (Volt Amps) is the highest output of any router I have tested. Better yet, the cable that plugs into each Velop is perfectly angled at the plug so the wire routs neatly through the cable management feature at the base. Brilliant design!
PRO's:
1- Fastest Wi-Fi Speed
2- Easy approximate 10 minute Set-up per hub
3- Velop Nodes are very attractive & blend with any architecture
4- Robust infrastructure yields dependable performance
5- 24/7 Support
6- 3-Year Warranty
7- Easy to use App with great diagnostics
8- Wire Management at the base is excellent & offers a wire free appearance.
9- Three Velop Nodes establish fast Wi-Fi speed across the house on any floor.
10- Expandable: Add an additional Node any time you prefer.
CON's:
1- IP Address range cannot be changed from: 192.***. My 2) existing Apple Time Capsule / Routers had IP addresses of 10.***, but they can be set to different ranges. A different IP Address range requires individually resetting a few devices that previously connected to the other range. For example, each Nixplay connected frame had to manually "Forget" the old Wi-Fi name of the previous SSID, then set up the same name with Velop, even though the Wi-Fi name and password are the same. On 13) Apple Airport Express devices, I had to power down each device to reset it from 10.*** to 192.***
2- IPv6 is not supported as of product release. This is surprising, as my three year old Apple Time Capsule / Router supported IPv6.
3- The first unit set up in under 10 minutes; however the remaining two hubs froze at the same exact place midway every time during set-up. After 6 failed attempts, I held each Node horizontally and kept my hand around it. Surprisingly, this procedure resulted in a virtually immediate set-up! Then I set each Node vertically & it continued to work great.
4- Only one Node can connect to the internet via ethernet. The other Nodes connect to the first Node via wireless mesh connection. I would prefer the option of connecting each Node to a wired ethernet connection. Linksys Technical Support indicated this may be added later as a software update. This would prove beneficial because the Nodes must be located fairly close together (my tests showed less than 40 feet apart at most).
CONCLUSION: My search for the "Ideal" Whole Home Wi-Fi System that consistently delivers 300 Mbps over 5,000 square feet with 90 devices ends here!! I am THRILLED with Velop & give it my highest recommendation!! It has proven to be the BEST ROUTER available for 2017!

and even so, there was a firmware update it applied immediate after setup. I agree that the IP address range thing is annoying though, especially when you're moving from an existing network with static IP devices (NAS, printers, etc.)

Can this new Indoor Cam Mini connect to the Eufy HomeBase? I would like for the IndoorDam store data on the base for easy access and control.

It stores data on the camera itself and not on a Homebase module. However, you still access the video like you would with Homebase-connected cameras - via the app.

It can record internally to a micro SD card, but you would need WiFi to access your footage and receive motion alerts.

Is this antenna ATSC 3.0 capable?

All antennas that work with ATSC 1.0 work with ATSC 3.0. In fact, all TV antennas that work on the standard UHF range (which means nearly every antenna, ever) work with ATSC 3.0 receivers and TV sets.

Can this be used with IPad Pro 10.5 inch

It can if you used a Camera Connection Kit and a Powered USB 3.x Hub. The lightning port by itself doesn't output enough power to run this drive.

For newer iPad Pros with USB-C connectors, you could just use a USB-C to USB 3.0 Micro B cable.

Either way, you'd need to format this drive using a computer first to a supported format (I believe that would be either ExFAT, HFS+, or APFS).

It can work with a USB 2.0 hub, but it will run at approximately 1/3 the speed you'd get with a USB 3.x connection (40 megabyte per second transfers on USB 2.0 versus 120 megabyte per second transfers over USB 3.x).

It should, but you'd be better off with a less expensive external drive as the Xbox 360 series of devices do not have USB 3.0 connections and even the slowest of external drives currently available can saturate a USB 2.0 connection.
