This fantastical release from the sci-fi anime series Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne includes episodes 1-12 of the show, following the story of a high school girl named Madoka Kyono, whose do-gooder lifestyle is put to the test when she's asked to pilot a giant robot and protect the people of her city.

"Madoka Kyono is an energetic girl who is full of passion. As the proud, and only, member of the Kamogawa Girls' High School Jersey Club, she goes around helping people in need. But Madoka's life is turned upside down when she is suddenly asked by a mysterious girl named Lan to pilot a robot. Motivated by her desire to protect the people and city of Kamogawa, Madoka agrees to pilot the resurrected Vox robot to fight against extraterrestrials that have come to attack Earth."
First things first, they need to get rid of the MA rating on this one. There's very brief backside nudity shown, and a random curse word thrown in, but there's almost zero blood and no deaths are shown. Mature rating just doesn't fit this one.
Alrighty, I was a little mixed about this series. Straight from the first episode, I was drawn in by the amazing graphics. Lagrange obviously had a very large production budget to work with. Tons of CG rendering that blend in incredibly well with the animation. It felt very similar to Infinite Stratos. The great graphics keep you watching where the plot tends to leave holes. The story isn't half bad when it gets more involved and you find out more about the aliens. There is a lot that isn't answered in this volume, though. Season 2 finished airing in Japan about 10 months ago, so we probably won't see part 2 here in North America for another 6-9 months. Going to assume that the 2nd season helps solve some of the mysteries.
The characters were pretty enjoyable. Only one that I didn't like, and you can tell that they're building him up to be a bad guy without revealing his motives while he helps Earth. Madoka is perpetually cheerful and always looking for the positive no matter what the situation. Lan is pretty introverted but will do everything she can for those she considers friends. And Muginami is a bit of an odd-ball. The typical *oppai* character that gets all of the stares from guys. You're never sure if she's friend or foe.
Watched the series in about 3 days and enjoyed it for the most part. The abundant holes in the story made me a little annoyed, but I guess I'll have to wait for part 2 for that to be rectified. It's a worthwhile watch.
This wild release from the hard hitting anime spin-off Tenchi Muyo! War on Gemina includes OVA episodes 8-13 from the show, following the story of 15 year old Kenshi Masaki, who is transported to another universe, where he's forced to enlist as the servant of a gorgeous princess.

"Young Kenshi Masaki has his hands full catering to the whims of an entire academy of flirtatious cuties, but a darkness looms on the horizon that will soon cast his life into chaos. The mysterious and enchanting Doll, controlled from afar by a power hungry madman, leads an unthinkable invasion that attacks the nubile students of the academy from inside its once protective walls. To save his bevy of galactic playmates, Kenshi must summon the power of a Sacred Mechanoid and fight to preserve peace in a world that hovers on the brink of destruction. Should he survive, Kenshi will be mobbed by a hoard of comely coeds who want to make the hero their husband!"
Part 1 ended with a giant fortress looming over the academy and Part 2 starts off with a large-scale invasion. The academy has been overrun and it's up to Kenshi and the ladies to try to save the day. Doll's identity is revealed...little bit of a shocker with this one. Kenshi adds all of the academy to his harem...not a shocker. It's a battle royale as the fate of the world is at risk...and all our hero wants to do is dig up crystals.
As the description kind of plays out at the end, this series is sitll about the comedy and harem aspects. It does a pretty good job of adding in some drama when it needs to to drive the plot further. At the same time, there are some issues that are never really resolved. Is Kenshi going to stay on this new-found world or will he try to go home?
Loved this series and watched it through in one sitting for each volume. Great action, huge harem, tons of humor, mechs, and great music, too. Definitely a worthwhile pickup for everyone!

"Fifteen year old Kenshi Masaki was taken from his home planet, transported to a galaxy far, far away, and captured by a gorgeous princess! This royal beauty claims Kenshi as her personal servant - and lends him out to all the lecherous ladies at her prestigious boarding school. On the rare occasion Kenshi doesn't have his hands full with a curvaceous coed, he can be found training for the intergalactic mecha battle royale looming on the horizon. Helping the princess save her planet is Kenshi's ticket home, but losing means he'll be stuck scrubbing backs in the interstellar sauna for the rest of his life! Every boy should be so lucky."
Eh, the description given for this one just doesn't do it justice. Kenshi is a relative to the good ol' Tenchi that this franchise is named after! Somehow he's been kidnapped and forced into the role of an assassin in order to try to win his freedom and return home. After failing in his mission to assassinate princess Leshara, he is enlisted in her services to help find the culprits that want her dead. Kenshi's life is about to be turned upside down.
War on Geminar actually has a pretty good plot line going on with it and each episode leaves off with a good cliffhanger that keeps reeling you in for more. Comedy is this series' bread and butter, though. The jokes and harassment keep on coming nonstop. Kenshi is the boytoy of a good dozen women by the end of this volume and it only keeps growing.
Loved the English voice-casting that Funimation did. Everyone fit into their roles amazingly and I didn't even think about swapping the vocals over to Japanese. Extras are just slightly above average with commentaries, trailers, and a few Japanese trailers as well.
Loved this series and I've already finished the 2nd volume after finishing this one. Don't be scared of it only being 7 episodes like I was. They're easily double-length which is great for non-stop watching!

Like most people, I picked up this album because of the song "Radioactive" as it's incredibly catchy. It's gotten tons of exposure as well. It plays on our MLB the Show game for the PS3 non-stop, ESPN, TNT, and ABC all play it several times during each of the NBA playoff games, and Sony even used it to start off their E3 event this year.
The rest of the album is good, but nothing great. Dynamics of the songs kept on jumping all over the place. Varying vocals and tones threw me off a bit. I'd label it more Alternative than Rock.

I've never played a Fire Emblem game before picking this one up back when it came out. Heck, mainly picked it up because of its limited release status and how hard it was to find. However, I left it sitting in the packaging for a couple months before finally opening it up. But once I did, I couldn't put it down.
Fire Emblem: Awakening has pretty much everything you want out of an RPG. Varying levels of difficulty, customizable characters, character relationships, and an amazing storyline. What initially drew me to the game was reading a review about how your characters had friendliness levels and that once they reached Rank S, something special happens (spoiler if I go further).
If it's your first time playing these games, I recommend that you put it on normal mode instead of classic. Had to restart a ton of times since I'd have a character get killed every so often and they don't revive on classic. It can get a little frustrating when trying to level up weaker characters that can't even take 2 hits.
I read that a straight clear of the story mode can be done in 8 hours...I did the paralogues and finally beat it after about 45 hours. If you want any sort of character development and a well-rounded party, then it'll take you a while to clear. Going to go back and see what other pairings I can get as well as making sure that I get all of the special characters as party members!

"Sophie, a quiet girl working in a hat shop, finds her life thrown into turmoil when she is literally swept off her feet by a handsome but mysterious wizard named Howl. The vain and vengeful Witch of the Waste, jealous of their friendship, puts a spell on Sophie. In a life-changing adventure, Sophie climbs aboard Howl's magnificent moving castle and enters a magical world on a quest to break the spell."
To be honest, I've had this movie and "My Neighbor Totoro" in my store for years and have always passed them over. Picked them both up when the Blu-rays released and I'm so glad I did. "Howl's Moving Castle" is a masterpiece that is just incredible. The beginning starts off at a very brisk pace and then slows down once Sophie has adjusted to the curse and accepts it. Aside from the first 10 minutes, nothing feels rushed and it flows very smoothly from one sequence to the next.
Full 1080p in Blu-ray works wonders for all of these older animated titles. While it detracts a little from their "classic" feel, the more vibrant colors and smoother animation is wonderful for drawing in new viewers. While not nearly as old as "Totoro", the movie still has a slightly older feeling to it. "Totoro" was the first movie that Miyazaki worked on that was set in Japan and it looks like he is a little preferetial to areas outside of his homeland. "Howl's Moving Castle" has the feeling of being in a Western European country.
Can't find any faults at all with the English voice-acting. The majority are highly-paid professional actors and they don't leave anything lacking. Always great to see the guy behind Batman as the voice behind Howl. And I don't see how anyone could not recognize the voice of Billy Crystal. Loved every minute of it.
Have to stop procrastinating with picking up "Nausicaa" as it was Miyazaki's first film and I hear so much about it. A few other huge movie titles coming out state-side this year as well that people should check out. "The Princess and the Pilot" is supposed to be amazing and I can't wait for "Wolf Children" as well. And can't forget "From Up on Poppy Hill". Missed the local screenings in Nashville earlier this month.

Nabbed this album from the website this past weekend and it arrived in just 2 days! Amazing album all around, but I mainly ordered it just for "Genie". This song plays on our Samsung demo disk in the store hooked to our calibration demo. It was love at first sight! Great music, lovely vocals, and just a joy to listen to.
This was my second Girls Generation album and I think I might have to go after all the others. Also picking up the albums from "Boa" when I can find them.

For some weird reason, I've avoided most of the Studio Ghibli films except for Princess Mononoke. You see nothing but great reviews and people gushing over them...which I guess turned me away. However, earlier this year I saw where they were releasing Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle on Blu-ray and figured that it might be the time to watch some more.
First off, I wish that I had known that Best Buy was doing a deal to save $6 off a 2nd Ghibli film with the purchase of either of the two aforementioned. I would have ordered online and picked up Nausicaa as well, but I've already opened both. My store managed to get both releases in stock (only 3 each, though) which is astounding for any anime release. Rarely get anything besides the Bleach and Naruto volumes along with other Viz titles.
Totoro takes place in a small village area about an hour outside of Tokyo in the 1950s. It appeals to everyone's sense of fantasy and wonder whether you're a child or adult. Sprawling rice-paddy fields, winding dirt roads, old Japanese homes with sliding doors, fire-heated baths, and more embody the feeling of living in rural Japan over 60 years ago. In all of the homeliness, you can almost forget the magical Totoro and his companions. When Satsuki and Mei move into their new house with their dad, they have no idea of the adventures that await them.
The animation is incredibly well done and the Blu-ray release is fantastic. All of the extras are still in standard resolution and after watching the movie in HD, the difference is amazing. Less pixelation, more vibrant colors that still leave the movie with a nostalgic feeling, and great audio quality as well. The soundtrack is beautiful. It's so easy to get swept away in the melodies throughout. With it storming here at the same time, I had trouble telling what was coming from the movie and what was happening outside during the storm scenes. The English voice-acting was very well done...it was done by Disney; what do you expect? However, I prefer the Japanese vocals and definitely the songs sung in Japanese. The English songs were okay but just slightly off.
Lastly, the extras were awesome. Watched each one...couple hours worth it seemed. Definintely loved the locations of Totoro segment. Walking through all of the areas that are animated and seeing how preservation methods are being invoked to keep the area from being further developed was really eye-opening and enjoyable. The creators of Tenchi Muyo! did the same which I loved. Amazing scenery.

Didn't even know that Daft Punk had a new album coming out and I really haven't listened to them since seeing a few of their songs featured in animated videos on Cartoon Network's Toonami a good decade or so ago. Mainly picked it up because some of my friends and coworkers were raving on it but I also wanted something new to listen to.
Overall, it sounds good. Nothing that stands out like "One More Time" or "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger", but it wasn't bad. Easy listening to. I try to listen to new albums while playing games to gauge how good it is. If I start paying more attention to the CD than the game, then it's a winner. Didn't quite reach that level for me, though. Long time fans will be happy. I'm happy to have a little more techno in the collection.
This hard hitting release from the girl-power sci-fi anime series Certain Scientific Railgun includes episodes 13-24 of the show, following the story of a girl named Misaka, whose psychic ability to manipulate electromagnetic waves makes her fit right in with all the other espers living in the futuristic Academy City, where other teenagers learn to master their powers for future careers in law enforcement, and try not to let their raging hormones get in the way.

"Misaka's electro-manipulation abilities - and delightfully destructive Railgun projectile move - make her a rockstar in Academy City. The techno-metropolis is packed with supernaturally powered students known as espers, including Misaka's flirty friend and roommate, Kuroko. She uses her teleportation skills as a member of the Judgment law enforcement team, fighting crime alongside her fellow agent Uiharu. Joined by their friend Saten, a spunky Level 0 esper, Misaka, Kuroko, and Uiharu have a blast taking on danger whenever and wherever it arises. Luckily, in a city full of super-powered gangs, mad scientists, and the occasional weird monster, the girls have no problem finding plenty of excitement, action, and adventure!"
Part 2 of Railgun starts off where part 1 left off...sort of. Took me several weeks to actually finish this one as it dragged a bit. The plot was extremely slow to get anywhere and we were mainly introduced to the every day lives of the girls. Definitely didn't have an "action" feel. I still enjoyed the conclusion even if the plot had more holes than Wolverine's gloves.
For some reason, the series wants you to know what it considers a cliff-hanger by having the ending trail into the closing theme song with an extra clip after the "Next Episode" preview. Seems kind of odd; as if they don't expect us to know that it had special meaning. :/
All-in-all, I wasn't nearly as happy with the 2nd part as the first. Hearing great stuff about season 2 which is airing in Japan at the moment, though. Hoping it'll rekindle my interest a bit.

I try not to be a grammar-junkie, but I think "saadcitystar" is trying to say that he/she's happy with their remote programming. It sounds like he/she purchased a Harmony remote with RF (radio frequency) instead of IR (infrared) that is capable of sending signals over about a 50' range and can even go through walls, cabinets, etc...
If purchasing a remote programming by itself, the service is $99.99, but if you're having other services done as well (audio setup, wall-mounting, calibration, or networking), the service actually drops down to $59.99.
Album came out back on Tuesday and it arrived on Wednesday. Love the quick shipping here.
Hide and Seek isn't quite the same as previous albums from The Birthday Massacre. Couple of the songs have a little bit darker feeling to them, but the overall sounds took me back to music from the 80's and early 90's. Really loving it.
Wouldn't really say that there's any songs that just jump out at you, but it actually works out good for this CD. Really enjoying every single song so I can just keep the entire thing going on repeat. Would be nice to have a killer hit like "Blue" or "Red Stars" thrown in, but the whole thing more than makes up for it.
There's also a Vinyl version available as well, but you'll have to order that through other means if you want it. Definitely recommend this one to any fans.
Have to update this as I've had this CD going for the past month in my car. Truely great CD. Very little pops out because all of the songs are so good. Should have given this one 5 stars.
This release from the chilling anime series Gunslinger Girl includes all 13 episodes of the show's first season, following the girls of the Social Welfare Agency, who appear from the outside to be orphaned schoolgirls, but are actually trained to be cold blooded killers. Extras with the release include voice director commentary, textless songs, and more.

Killer girls from...
ByDvalfromClarksville, TN
Genre: Action
"Officially, the social Welfare Agency is a government sponsored corporation that's in the business of saving lives. At least, that's the ruse. In reality, it's an agency on the fringe of technology. They give terminal patients another shot at life using cybernetic implants. This conditioning process then shapes the patient into an effiecient machine for handling all of the goverment's dirty work. They've been given a second change at life, but at what cost?"
Basic plot: Little girls that were about to die have been given a second shot at life, but in return they're basically assassins for the government. The first season here doesn't really do much more than give us a character intro for 6 different girls. The story takes place in Italy which is a huge change of pace for most anime. Plot only got an average score because of the lack of one thus far.
Cinematography: The graphics are very visually appealing. Seeing everything out in the Mediteranean is a good change from the streets of Japan. The character designs themselves aren't very well done, though. They're really kind of normal. However, there's a ton of detail put into the outfits, guns, and scenery. Found it kind of odd, but the Blu-ray version is definitely nice and crisp. No jagged edges around the faces like on DVD versions.
Acting: Loved the English voice-acting and didn't touch the original Japanese. Kind of want to just to hear they're versions of each girl.
Extras: Non-existent. Not a single trailer, commentary, or even a textless opening or ending. Bare bones.
As the first reviewer posted, the story is a little disturbing. If you can get around little girls being used as military dolls, then the action is quite nice and I really enjoyed it. Just not the best series out there. Should definitely pick it up if you like anime, though.
Completely forgot about the extras on disc 2. There are actually quite a few. The voice-actor commentaries about their own characters are really enjoyable. Would bump the Extras up to 4 stars, but it wouldn't change the overall rating.
This mind-bending release from the psych-horror anime series Deadman Wonderland includes all 12 episodes of the show, following the story of a high school boy who is unjustly jailed for the murder of his class in a prison system that fits him with a collar constantly injecting him with poison. The poison can be neutralized if he can take regular doses of the antidote often enough, though these can only be obtained through prison work.

Supernatural prison
ByDvalfromClarksville, TN
Genre: Supernatural, Action, Drama Length: 12 episodes + OVA
"Ganta is the only survivor after a mysterious man in red slaughters a classroom full of teenagers. He's framed for the carnage, sentenced to die, and locked away in the most twisted prison ever built: Deadman Wonderland. And then it gets worse.
At Deadman Wonderland, convicts are forced into brutal deathmatches for the amusement of the masses, the cheers of the crowd drowning out the screams of the dismembered. Even when Ganta befriends Shiro, an unusual female inmate, his dark fate crushes all hope – until he discovers the strange ability to wield his spilled blood as a weapon. Ganta learns his new skill might be related to the murderous man in red and uncovers disturbing secrets that could expose those who stole his freedom. He's determined to see justice served – but first he'll have to fight for his life in a prison that holds a million ways to die."
Deadman Wonderland is a decent series that gained attention in America after Cartoon Network aired it on the Toonami animation block when it was reincarnated back in 2012. I caught the first 2 episodes, but never got around to watching the rest. The series is filled to the brim with blood, gore, and action. The English dialogue is pretty racy as well. It does an excellent job with the shock factor. You just know someone is about to die, but it can be a little hard to predict how it's going to happen. Sadly, the series is quite rushed and a ton of knowledge is never made known. There also isn't really a true ending. Red Man remains a mystery, sort of. What relation does Shiro and Ganta have? Don't want to spoil any of the ending, but it pops up just as many questions and doesn't really answer anything. It leave tons of room for a 2nd season, but I haven't seen anything in the works, yet.
I enjoyed the series overall even with the rushed ending and lingering questions. My brother was also a fan and admitted that he was a little confused with the entire thing. This is a great value on a pretty good series. Pick it up!

Came in looking for a new portable radio. Salesman guided me to a blue-tooth speaker to connect to my phone instead. Can also use this with my MP3. Works much better than the radio would have and great sound. Helpful salesman did a bit of technology training to help me get it set up.

Great anime!
ByACEACEfromCORONA
Picture and cgi excellent. Story excellent. But I gave it 3 stars because the sound is pcm only. That means stereo not 5.1 dolby digital much less DTS. Why they don't spend the money on the sound affect on Bluray is completely troubling.
It'd be great to have more titles with full 5.1 or 7.1 dolby digital sound, but it's pretty rare outside of the big movies. Really long answer so I'll just paste the response from the animenewsnetwork for you.
Audio is important, and many fans are becoming more and more concerned with making sure that they're getting the best quality audio possible when they fork over the money for a shiny disc of their favorite show. But with so many different formats, which one is best? Which ones should you be asking for? Sometimes the difference is negligible or non-existant, other times it makes a huge difference.
Let's start with the easy one: why some shows have 5.1 mixes for the dub, but not for the original Japanese. I've answered previously on this column that most TV anime doesn't bother with anything more than a stereo (2.0) mix because the Japanese broadcast standard doesn't really support 5.1 audio, and given how big home theater systems aren't as common in Japan for a number of reasons, they generally don't bother remixing for 5.1 when it comes time to release the discs on home video. However, when making the dub, an American publisher might think 5.1 is worth the extra work. If they're already set up to do 5.1, the audio has to be remixed anyway, so it is an opportunity to have a nice added feature for dub fans.
5.1 mixes require special equipment, take a lot more time, and are harder to check for errors (and requires a lot more office space to do so), so it's often not practical to do 5.1 mixes for everything. They can also cost more money. The decision to make a 5.1 mix is made on a show-by-show basis, based on whether the Japanese is 5.1 (usually just movies and some high-end OAVs) and how much the show is predicted to sell.
As for what format in which they're stored on a disc, these days you generally see 4 different kinds of audio tracks: • Linear PCM (Completely uncompressed, basically just a WAV file. Takes up a lot of space, especially in 5.1.) • Dolby Digital (AC3) (Lower quality, like an MP3, but takes up a lot less space. Supported by DVD and Blu-ray.) • Dolby TrueHD (Blu-ray only. The full quality of the WAV file, but compressed to a more manageable size. Still much bigger than AC3, however.) • DTS Master Audio (Blu-ray only. For the end user, pretty much identical to Dolby TrueHD.)
When you make a DVD or Blu-ray, you are tasked with squeezing a lot of data onto a finite amount of space, so compression can be very important. Wasting too much bandwidth on audio means you might have to sacrifice video quality. The above compression formats are essential ways to get the most quality out of an audio track without having an unwieldy amount of data to contend with.
Audio quality obsessives swear that Dolby Digital AC3 audio has a lot of distortion and they can DEFINITELY tell a difference. I am skeptical. I've definitely heard bad AC3 encodes that definitely affected audio quality, particularly in very early DVDs, but there has never been a double-blind study that shows even audio experts can tell a difference at higher bitrates (and quite a few proving that nobody can tell at all). At any event, the presence of "lossless" audio (in either LPCM, DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD) has become an important marketing bullet point for Blu-ray discs, so whether people can REALLY tell the difference or it's all a placebo effect, who am I to argue.
