Mr. Deeds One of Frank Capra's best-loved stories gets a modernized and wildly slapstick reinterpretation in this romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler. When Preston Blake (Harve Presnell), a remarkably wealthy media magnate, dies with neither a wife nor children, the question on the lips of most of his associates is who will inherit the estate. The surprising answer turns out to be Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler), a cheerful but half-bright proprietor of a small-town pizzeria, as well as part-time greeting card poet, who was a distant relative of Blake. In order to claim his 40-billion-dollar inheritance, Deeds heads to New York City, where Blake's former associates, Chuck Cedar (Peter Gallagher) and Cecil Anderson (Erick Avari), introduce him to the city while trying to figure out how to get their hands on his new fortune. Meanwhile, Mac McGrath (Jared Harris), the producer of a sleazy tabloid television show, wants to get the inside scoop on Deeds, and comes up with perfect way to get it: he sends beautiful but unscrupulous reporter Babe Bennett (Winona Ryder) to sweep Deeds off his feet while she's wired for sound. Convincing Deeds that she's from a small town just like himself, Bennett quickly wins his heart, but while his affection is sincere, hers is not. He also displays a curious eagerness to defend her good name with his fists which quickly gets him in trouble. Meanwhile, as Deeds becomes the new laughing stock of New York thanks to Bennett's stories, Deeds decides it's time he did something big with his money, while Cedar and Anderson think they've finally found a way to take control of Deeds' holdings. Mr. Deeds also features supporting performances from John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, and Conchata Ferrell. John McEnroe and Rev. Al Sharpton make cameo appearances as themselves. Click A workaholic architect, frustrated in his job but determined to make a better life for his family, is bestowed with a powerful universal remote that allows him more control over his life than he ever knew possible in director Frank Coraci's high-concept fantasy comedy. On the surface, Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) seems to have it all, yet with all the demands forced upon him by his ungrateful boss (David Hasselhoff), Michael finds that setting aside time to spend with his loving wife, Donna (Kate Beckinsale), and two picture-perfect children, Ben (Joseph Castanon) and Samantha (Tatum McCann), has grown increasingly difficult. When a frustrating bout with the television remote leads the overworked husband and father to a nearby Bed, Bath & Beyond in search of a universal remote with the power to control all of his electronic devices, a curious peek into the back room leads Michael into the company of eccentric employee and talented inventor Morty (Christopher Walken). It seems that Morty has created a device that will not only allow Michael complete control over his television and stereo, but his entire life as well. As Michael discovers that the remarkable device has the power to muffle the barks of the family dog, zoom himself past an irritating quarrel with his wife, and even allow him to travel back and forth through time to different points in his life, the rush of being able to skip straight to the good parts in life soon leaves him feeling as if he's missing out on the total experience. Only when Michael begins to realize that the he has lost control of his life and the remote is now programming him does he finally learn that life is as much about the moments he'd rather forget as it is the moments he will always remember.

Dual Comedy Set

I got this double one disc dvd set (The Laugh Out Loud Double Feature)of the Mr. Deeds movie and Click film from my job due to the cheap price and my previous familiarity with the Mr. Deeds movie. The dvd option allows you to choose whichever movie you would like to see first. Click is a science fiction type of film that stars Adam Sandler as a successful architect named Michael Newman. Michael Newman loves his wife Donna Newman (Kate Beckinsale) and wants to also provide the best life for his kids Ben (Jospeh Castannon) and Samantha (Danielle Tatum). Newman’s life changes dramatically during a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond, when a mysterious person named Morty (Christopher Walken) gives him a remote control that allows him to skip through certain parts of his life. Donna Newman’s best friend Janine (Jennifer Coolidge) seemingly thinks that her friends has a charmed life and husband while unintentionally overlooking what he has to go through in order to provide for his family. There are countless celebrity appearances in the film as well (David Hasselhoff, Sean Astin, Henry Winkler, Julie Kavner, James Earl Jones, Rachel Dratch, Robert Schneider etc). Music featured in this movie are songs such as Show Me The Way by Peter Frampton, Hold The Line by Toto, and Linger by The Cranberries. The lead singer of the Cranberries (Dolores O’Riordan) also makes an appearance in the film. What pleasantly surprised me the most about Click was the spiritual slant to the film Click when Morty eventually reveals to Michael Newman who he really is. The film Good Deeds stars Adam Sandler as Longfellow deeds whose world transforms dramatically once he finds out that he is set to inherit billions from a late uncle named Preston Blake (Harve Presnell)who he never met. Longfellow Deeds finds out that news from Chuck Cedar (Peter Gallagher) and Cecil Anderson (Erick Avari) both high-level employees of Blake Media. Longfellow actually enjoys working at a pizzeria, delivering to various customers such as Crazy Eyes (Steve Buscemi) and residing in Mandrake Falls, New Hampshire. One of Longfellow’s employees Jan (Conchatta Ferrell)even mentions how Deeds is actually an owner of the pizzeria. He ends up considering a permanent stay in New York after he meets and falls in love with Babe Bennett (Wynona Ryder) a tv reporter. He also enjoys his new residence in New York and gets along with one of the employees linked with Blake Media Emilio Lopez (John Tutturo). Babe Bennett ends up encountering an ethical dilemma of covering up her true job from Longfellow Deeds in order to gather essential information and in hopes that her boss Mac McGrath will give her a promotion and pay rise. Of course, there are more actors/actresses affiliated with this movie and some of the following music is featured in Mr. Deeds; The Sweetest Thing by U2, Where Are You Going by the Dave Matthews Band, You Don’t Know How It Feels by Tom Petty, Sing by Travis etc.

First Saw During 2008 Christmas Season

I was living in Norfolk Virginia during this time and fortunately persuaded my husband to see Bedtime Stories with me at the movie theater(inside the MacArthur Center mall). The bonus features attributed to the Bedtime Stories dvd movie are sneaks on; Double Feature dvd of Dadnapped and Hatching Pete, Morning Light, Disney Princess Protection Program, Walt Disney Pictures; Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure, what looks to be a commercial ad for Disney XD, G-Force, Walt Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney Pixar Monsters Inc., Disney Blue Ray Magic in High-Def, and Disney Magic movie rewards. The actual Bedtime Stories movie stars Adam Sandler as Skeeter Bronson. Skeeter Bronson puts a lot in his hotel job and is surprised one day when he finds out that his boss Barry Nottingham (Richard Griffiths) promotes Kendall Duncan (Guy Pearce)for the job that he was sure was his. It was not from Skeeter Bronson having a sense of entitlement, rather it had to do more with how hard he was working and the original promise that Griffiths had made to this father Marty Bronson (Jonathan Pryce). Duncan is shown to be so crude and calculating to the point that he even dates the boss’s daughter Violet Nottingham (Teresa Palmer), but secretly carries a romantic torch for fellow hotel worker Aspen (Lucy Lawless). Skeeter’s friend Mickey (Russell Brand) tries to patiently explain to Skeeter Bronson why Duncan was chosen but Bronson appears to avoid taking Mickey’s suggestion (for certain reasons). Anyhow, in the meanwhile, Skeeter Bronson is also tasked with watching his niece Bobbi (Laura Kesling) and nephew Patrick (Jonathan Heit). This is because his sister Wendy Bronson (Courtney Cox) is looking to get a job in Arizona after hearing that she is going to be laid off. Fortunately, Wendy Bronson does have a good friend in Jill Hastings (Keri Russell). Anyhow, Skeeter Bronson also takes on the role of father figure as well because his sister also happens to be a single mother and he also cares to be a father figure influence in his niece and nephew’s life. Bronson’s life changes dramatically once he notices the power that his niece and nephew have with just telling their stories with their imaginations. The movie even implies why their storytelling is powerful when the quote in the movie is mentioned ‘Your Fun Is Only Limited by Your Imagination). There are some song snippets that play during the movie such as Fire by The Ohio Players,I’m On Fire by Bruce Springsteen, Disco Inferno by The Trammps, Eternal Flame by The Bangles, Rock Me Amadeus by Falco, and Don’t Stop Believing by Journey (towards the end of the movie).Of course, there are more actors and actresses featured, yet something tells me to save some plot info for those who have yet to see the movie.

Princess Mononoke arrives on DVD in a widescreen anamorphic format (1.85:1 theatrical aspect ratio enhanced for 16 x 9 television) and these audio tracks: Japanese (Dolby Digital 5.1), English (Dolby Digital 5.1), and French (Dolby Digital 2.0), with English subtitles. The DVD is dual-layered with an astonishingly clear and crisp picture that really brings out the animated magic of the film. Sound quality is consistently good with particularly clear and bass-resonant music, particularly during the action scenes. Special features are limited to theatrical trailers and a "making of" featurette. A glossy insert in the cover of the plastic DVD case lists the chapter index.

Anime Film With Powerful Spiritual Messages
on September 11, 2015

Princess Mononoke is an enjoyable anime film that involves how a young boy’s life is changed once a negative spirit inhabits a large boor and creates chaos in his home village. The young boy named Ashitaka is left with a situation that endangers his life and he ends up crossing paths with a perplexing young woman named San who enchants him with her beauty and who was raised by wolves. Both San and Ashitake end up seeing a lot, such as a forest spirit who has the gift of bringing great healing and saving a living being from dying if the spirit sees that they are meant to live. I’m fortunate to have first watched Princess Mononoke with my husband when we were living in the Jacksonville Florida area (through the U.S. navy).

A Fun Anime Take on Redemption?
on September 11, 2015

The Devil is a Part-Timer Season 1 is a 13 episode anime that my husband introduced me to and is definitely not what it at first appears to be with the title (with obviously favorable results). The dvd centers around the characters of Sadao Mao, Shiro Ashiya, Chiho, and Emilia Justinia who came from the world of Ente Isla and end up in modern day Japan for various reasons. They end up having to help each other as one of the characters works at MgRonalds while dealing with a rival busness across the street (Sentucky Fried chicken). Additionally, the characters of Sadao Mao and Shiro Ashiya improve for the better which confuses Emilia Justinia even more due to one of the reasons that brought her to Japan in the first place. There is obviously more to the series than what I’m writing, yet something compels me to avoid revealing more for those who have yet to see this distinctive anime series.

A State of Trance 2012 by Armin Van Buuren is a two cd set of 32 songs. The first disc set is titled On The Beach and has fifteen songs ranging from meaningful songs such as Try To Be Love by Sunlounger & Zara Taylor (Roger Shah Naughty Love Mix)and the jovial Suddenly Summer by Armin Van Buuren feat. Ana Criado. The second disc titled in the club has 17 songs ranging from Armin Van Buuren’s collaboration with Gaia and 550 Senta (Aether Mix) by Andrew Rayel. A good selection for those looking for a hybrid of playful and worthwhile trance songs.

My Husband’s Film Collection

The Illusionist film is a movie that my husband first introduced me to around 2006/2007 when we were living in Florida and it was great to watch the Illusionist together again this week. The Illusionist features a movie trailer to Gray Matters and the movie itself is a deep and complicated history between the characters of Duchess Sophie Von Teschen (Jessica Biel) and Eisenheim The Illusionist (Edward Norton). Duchess Sophie Von Teschen is set to marry the emotionally cold but intellectually gifted Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell). I do completely accept that Sewell was just putting his best in the role, it was just that I was extremely shocked by how his Prince Leopold character is required to treat Eisenheim’s character and that of his wife Sophie so abrasively just because he can. Chief Inspector Walter Uhl (Paul Giamatti) is Crown Prince Leopold’s right hand man who is required to start spying on Eisenheim after a witness tattles on Eisenheim and Duchess Sophie immediately after they are spotted simply just talking in a carriage together.

Saw This Movie Mentioned In A Magazine (I think it

Some Kind of Beautiful Stars Pierce Brosnan as a college professor named Richard Haig who tries to initially seduce Olivia (Salma Hayek) while still dating her grad student sister Kate (Jessica Alba). Admittedly, Richard did not know at first that Olivia and Kate were related when he first laid eyes on Olivia inside a fancy looking Dublin hotel (or was it a bar/restaurant as well). Anyhow, this is the least of his worries as Olivia meets up with both Kate and Richard while discussing her love life with author Alan Sloane (Robert Mailhouse). Richard’s father Gordon (Malcolm McDowell) foreshadows the scandal that is about to happen by the way that Richard and Gordon say goodbye to each other. Olivia politely avoids telling Kate about Richard hitting on her at their first actual meeting. However, this is the least of Richard’s worries as he finds out that Kate is pregnant and is about to have his baby. Kate got a job with a venture firm in Los Angeles and successfully persuades Richard to follow her to California (which seems easy enough because Richard considers Kate beautiful, ambitious, and bright). Things start out idyllic when Kate gives birth to their baby Jake (Duncan Joiner). However, Richard’s life gets turned upside down when Kate decides to leave him for another man named Brian (Ben MacKenzie). Around this time, Olivia catches her writer amour with her gynecologist (she finds out later that her writer man only went with her to the gynecologist sessions to see the gynecologist). Olivia creatively channels some of that heartache towards becoming a writer herself.

Wilder Mind by Mumford and Sons contain songs that mix themes of love with electronic and indie rock elements. There are some deep songs on here such as Cold Arms and Only Love. There is also the well-known but dramatic Believe.
