Sickeningly Genius

Deadgirl is everything people are saying it is and then some.
Sickeningly Genius in that it's repulsive yet fascinating and has the ability to take a non homicidal, non sociopathic person "a woman,no less" and draw them in to a scenerio which defies all laws of nature and humanity and keep them glued to it.
The cast was excellent and the story amazingly original.
It definitely isn't for the squeamish.I can see how women would find it more disturbing than men ,I saw a review by another woman condemning it.That's why we can press STOP on our DVD player at anytime if we so choose,no one has a gun to your head saying watch this film~!
Any movie should be watched for entertainment value and not as a template for morals.
I thought it was dark, edgy and well worth the price of the Disc.It also shows ranges of human behavior and tolerance not just one mindset.Genius
What's great about it: amazing film

"OutStanding"

I have watched this movie 4 times now and always catch something I missed the previous time.
When I heard there was a twist I guessed it just by watching the Trailer.
That being said ,it didn't matter it was still a great action film.Nick played by Timothy Olyphant being the stand out with the most interesting character. His famous line "Outstanding" is priceless as is his girlfriend Gina played by Kiele Sanchez's "WooptiTa".Whether they're catching and gutting wild goats for dinner or taking a relaxing nude swim under the waterfall while sharing Nick's wild stories of survival that sound like they could be from an Indiana Jones movie to Nick pretending to leave his drink in a jewelery store so he can go back and buy an engagement ring for Gina,I fell in love with them.
A first rate thriller with a first rate cast,Mila Jovovitch always shines and Steve Zahn is cast against type but pulls it off really well.I think the reason I am able to watch this movie so many times and not get bored or it become mundane, is because I feel as I made a friend in a couple of the characters and want to revisit them and this of course is the only way for me to achieve this.
The battle for survival at the end of the movie is edge of your seat tense and exciting.Even if you guess the twist there are still some surprises they pull out,so just when you think you know how it will end ,you don't.
All in all a winner for start to finish.

An Unsung Masterpiece

The Horseman absolutely blew me away
After his daughter ends up dead The girl in questions father finds out she was involved in an adult film shoot where she was drugged and abused on set. What ensues next is one of the best revenge films I have ever seen.
It is shot somewhat out of sequence, basically after he"Peter Marshall" gives a ride to a stranded girl near the same age as his deceased daughter ,she asks if he has any children. This takes him back to the beginning in a flashback and from there it goes from flashback to real time.
It is brutal, bloody with teeth grinding ,edge of your seat suspense and action.
I don't see it as a horror movie but a riveting bloody thriller.
It starts off full speed ahead and never lets up.There was not one moment that I wasn't glued to the TV.Peter Marshall is incredibly believable ,powerful and brilliant as Christian the vengeful father on a mission.Since the death of his daughter he is reduced to a cutter, with the camera getting shots of him cutting on his arm and hands frequently which makes any pain he may receive along the way not as effective to him as it would someone that does not inflict intentional pain on themselves.
I say buy it,you will definitely want to watch it more than once ,as well as have it in your collection. The last 20 minutes were some of the most tense moments I have ever seen on film. There's some Irony in the ending that is quite genius and effective. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would..

Stag Night Delivers in a Big Way
on September 7, 2011

I just got this today and popped it in.
What I got was a great Slasher movie about Four guys ,Two of them brothers and Two exotic dancers coming home from a Stag party on a NYC Subway train. It gears up after Breckin Meyer's character gets maced by Vinessa Shaw's character for being a complete jerk and they have to get off the train because of the mace.Problem being it's the last train for hours and they end up getting stuck in the NYC subway so they have to venture into the tunnels. What they encounter are people that have lived in those tunnels for years maybe decades, some much more evolved than others. They run into four cannibalistic Neanderthal looking sub humans that roam the tunnels looking for victims to eat and oh they aren't greedy they also share bits and pieces with the wild dogs that they have housed in their humble abode that looks like a human butcher shop, but not at all clean or tidy. This is when the real fun begins.
Kip Pardue,Breken Myer,Scott Atkins,Carl Geary and Vinessa Shaw are all excellent in their roles, the casting was very well done.If Vinessa looks familiar it's because she played the oldest daughter in the Hills Have Eyes remake. Stag Night is heavy on the gore which is always a plus, the lighting was well done and you could actually see what was going on most of the time.
It's brutal and fast paced, not at all a hurry up and wait to get hacked up feel to it,I want to watch it again already.
There are some endearing moments as well ,it isn't without any sentiment or meaning.
I usually don't care either way but viewing this I decided that I actually did like being endeared to a couple of these characters this gave it all the more impact. There are some really good fight scenes and a couple of surprising moments that lent to the flavor of the film..If I have one complaint and the only reason I held back a star and gave it 4 instead of 5 was the ending.I want to just pretend that I didn't see the last Ten seconds,BUT I did.I still give it 2 thumbs way up.Just think Creep meets Wrong Turn.
What's great about it: amazing film
What's not so great: not much

Clever Storyline,not so Cleverly Executed

'The Inheritance'
This movie has been sitting on the shelf since 2008 and is finally being released.
It's about a group of African American Cousins from different backgrounds that are summoned to a cabin/house in the woods during the dead of Winter with promises and visions of Dollar signs dancing in there heads. Unfortunately the only thing they find dancing when they wake up the next morning is a bunch of their older relatives in ceremonial African makeup and costumes chanting the name "Chakabazz" whom is a 200 year old Witch doctor that keeps his powers by using the blood from the descendants of Slaves.
The Story and idea are quite clever but it just doesn't play out in a way that satisfied me. Reasons being, there are virtually no gore effects or blood.
The cast was excellent and the acting very well done even for this somewhat over the top Genre piece.Keith David,Golden Brooks and the beautiful Rochelle Aytes were some of the actors that kept this movie in a watchable and almost enjoyable light.
It came off a bit cheesy at times which I'm a fan of ,if ordered.
I would have preferred this without cheese, too bad movies can't be like Burger King so you can have them "your way".
I imagine there are plenty of people that will enjoy this movie and I would have really enjoyed it as well if there had been a substantial amount of Blood and gore throughout, seeing as the plot did call for it.
What's great about it: not much
What's not so great: it fell flat

Jaw Dropping
on September 7, 2011

First let me say that right after watching this film I had to re watch it immediately it was that clever. The twist was a jaw dropper that I never saw coming.
A woman turns her 'serial killer' boyfriend in to the authorities after following him one night on one of his strange late night drives. When asked by her about them his response is 'you know I'm strange' as he leaves he tells her he loves her which he does allot and in the time we get to see them together he seems nothing but wonderful towards her.
The main actress is amazing in her role, it's as if she is living it then and there and I was mesmerized by her performance.
She meets a very nice man at her AA meeting and tries to start a new life until her ex escapes from the authorities.
There are some very brutal scenes although not gratuitously so but still quite shocking and bloody.
The feel of the film is low budget but that doesn't take away from it's brilliance and impact.
I felt like the wind was knocked out of me when the twist occurred.
I highly recommend it for those that like these types of films and don't need major CGI or big special effects to appease them..

The best Slasher comedy ever..
Tucker and Dale vs Evil has everything to make the formula work, great cast, one liners, blood and guts and a budget that allows for it to be executed correctly.
I thought it was hilarious and lacking nothing. If you're a slasher or a horror/comedy fan this is for you,the script is genius and I enjoyed every minute.See how two good ole boys who just want to go hang out at their 'vacation home' in the woods get mixed up in some of the funniest misunderstandings ever.

Bereavement is the prequel to Malevolence.
I have been waiting a long time for this to come out and wasn't disappointed.
It was beautifully shot and the lighting was great. The acting was above par ,Alexandra Daddario is not only beautiful but an amazing actress and Michael Biehn has long been a favorite actor of mine since his debut in the 1981 slasher film "The Fan".
It wasn't over the top gory but it was quite bloody and there were a couple of scenes that will leave a gore hound like myself satisfied.
If you saw Malevolence you will know exactly whats going on and even if you didn't see it, it won't take long to figure it out.It has a rich look to it not that cheap or low budget feel .
There were many scenes that might have gone somewhat unnoticed or the importance overlooked that dealt with loss, loss being a huge part of the story in all area's.The last scene with John Savage was a very powerful scene and an important one as well. It's rare that a film is heart tugging yet filled with such real horror as well. The thing that's so scary about this is there really are people that are as mentally unstable as Graham Sutter but you might never know unless you could look into his mind.Bereavement leads us to no other conclusion except 'nurture over nature' when it comes to raising Children.
What's great about it: amazing film

Not as good as the first

I had the highest of hopes for this sequel seeing as I loved the first installment.
Chromeskull'Laid To Rest 2' was confusing and muddled and completely wasted the talents of Danielle Harris by casting her in a role that was unnecessary and coma like in dialogue and acting.
Of course then we have the bright spot in the movie and that is the gore ,it was done really well, not as well as the first but pretty close although it was abundant.
Also actress 'Brianne Davis' was great in her role as a nearly blind girl and 'damsel in distress' and she was another bright spot.
Brian Austin Green was in my opinion another disappointment. His acting was lackluster and his performance added nothing to the film,an unknown with good acting skills would have served better.
The last 30 minutes because it picked up and got me interested in it. Before that I was just going through the motions of watching and hoping it would get better or make more sense.
The ending was somewhat confusing but the very last scene was ironic and clever. If your a gore lover I strongly suggest you see it ,if you want a movie with really great concept and depth I suggest you see Stake land (which in my opinion includes Danielle Harris' best performance to date) or The Clinic.
What's great about it: nothing great
What's not so great: bad acting..muddled plot

EPIC

This was such an amazing movie I can't wait to pop it in and watch it again.
By far Danielle Harris' best role and performance to date.
It has shades of many other apocalyptic films while managing to keep it's own identity, and it does take itself seriously and that's what I really love about it.No camp all horror drama and action.
'Mr' is one of the best film heroes to come along in years.
The cast is great even Kelly McGillis came out of the woodwork and gives an awesome performance.
I can't rave enough about this movie..It's different in that the vampires are like Zombies but you have to stake them and not shoot them in the head. This is my new favorite Vamp flick. Two huge thumbs up.
What's great about it: amazing film
What's not so great: NOTHING
