Beauty AND the Beast
on December 28, 2016
Posted by: Arjay67
from Kankakee, IL
When I first saw this blender and the rest of the Ninja line I was skeptical. Most of what I saw were the informercials and that typically translates into, “over-priced garbage that isn’t worth a hill of beans”. Then I received the Nutri Ninja Blendmax Duo Auto-iq as a gift. Man, was I surprised! Seems well built and the only reservation I still have is that the pitcher appears to be polycarbonate instead of the glass pitchers that I’m accustomed to. But that’s just the “old fashioned” part of my brain kicking in.
This appliance has a good capacity pitcher for blending/pureeing just about anything that you can throw into it. There are 2 tall cups and 1 short cup. These are great for mixing up drinks one-off. They do a very good job at pulverizing anything in there. My first creation was a strawberry yogurt smoothie. It wasn’t perfect, but I dare you to find a blender that is. There was very little of the seeds left at all, so my smoothie was actually very smooth. AND YUMMY! (but most of the credit goes to the creator—me) LOL
The second thing I threw at it was my Sage. I like to grow my own herbs since it’s monumentally cheaper than store bought bottles. So I took all the Sage that I grew this summer and had dried earlier and tossed it in the pitcher. Locked the lid and hit “Total Crush”. Slightly less than one minute later my Sage leaves and stems were reduced to a finely ground powder. Just what I want for cooking!
Third try, Gazpacho! I like the base of my Gazpacho to be velvety. Just like the way I first tried it. Dumped all my base ingredients: tomatoes, peppers, carrots, celery, etc in and in a couple of minutes it was a smooth delicious slurry. Nom, nom, nom.
After that I just had to see what it would do for a conventional frozen drink. Ice, sour mix, liberal addition of Tequila. Whoa, I’m half in the bag now. Woo hoo!
Some other reviewers have stated that they think it’s loud. To me, it’s nowhere near as loud as my old blender. And, after all, it’s a freaking blender; and it’s powerful. So there will be some noise, get over it.
The auto pre-sets really help out. You have three main speeds, pulse and several presets. Want a smoothie? There’s a button. Want a frozen drink? There’s a button. Want to crush something into oblivion? There’s a button. For example, I loaded it with just ice to see what it would do. A minute later I had a blender filled with snow. NO inconsistency, no chunks left behind.
The pros:
* Great capacity and variety: 3 sizes - 2 tall - 1 short - 1 pitcher
* Positively Locking Lid - Give you a sense of security with all this power
* Very powerful motor
* Auto pre-sets
* Affordable, but even better as a Christmas gift because it’s free!
* Actually worth the price charged if you want one and don’t have a benefactor.
* Quieter than most blenders
The cons:
* Non-glass pitcher, but then again it probably won’t shatter if dropped. So maybe not too much of a con.
* Costs more than $50.00 (yeah, cause I’m cheap!)
I can hardly wait until next fall when my Pumpkins crop comes in. I’m sure that this beauty will be a real beast when I need to puree 4-6 roasted pumpkins into puree. As I said in the beginning, I was a skeptic when I first got it. But now I’m a believer. I may not even put in back in the appliance cabinet. This is going to get a lot of use so I think it will stay out on the counter for a good while.

Great trimmer, pretty good shaver
on November 29, 2016

Overall I’m very pleased with this Trimmer/Shaver. Upon opening the box, most items were easy to unpack and understand their function without consulting the documentation. This is good because the documentation is a multi-panel fold-out that has rather small print and is difficult to handle.
I immediately set about charging the unit as I needed to clean up my face and hair in preparation for the Holidays. After a few hours the charging was complete and I dug right in. First I used the beard trimming guard. It is easy to attach, but getting it set in the exactly location you desire required a couple of attempts. Usually going past the number I wanted. But with a little practice I was able to master it. This trimmer went through my beard hair with ease and maintained a consistent length throughout. Previous trimmers I’ve owned would often bog down with beard hair as it’s so much thicker. But not this baby, it buzzed right through quickly.
So on to my head. Switched out for the guard intended for the head, which is noted by icons on the guards. Buzzzzzzzit! Yep, hair done and neat. I then removed the guard and posed on the detail head to trim up around the edges and over the ears. Again, a job well done.
One caution on the guards. I don’t think they take a lot of abuse so don’t put them in your luggage if they are likely to experience any crushing force. Take care of them and they’ll take care of you.
So then just to see about the shaver head I tried that on my face. It did an okay job. About as good as any other electric razor that I’ve used. But I’ve been using a blade for so many years that nothing really works as well for me.
Other things to note…included is a carry bag that is big enough to easily fit the trimmer, charger and all accessories with room to spare. Also included is a tube of lubricating oil. I keep it in the carry bag since I would loose the oil that came with other trimmers without a bag. This unit is also rated as being waterproof. That’s great but I intend to use it on dry land only. For me it’s not practical to try to use it in the shower, but it provides peace of mind that since I’m using it in the bathroom, I won’t worry to much if I set it down in a puddle or it falls someplace icky.
Time will tell on the longevity of this trimmer, but I have a good feeling about that and I would definitely buy this trimmer again.

On Par Performance, Special Features Weak
on October 25, 2016
Posted by: Arjay67
from Kankakee, IL
Overall this wireless router performs on par with others that I have used. I'm currently using it behind a UVerse RG. This can present a couple challenges, but those are easily overcome with moderate technical skills. I've compared the throughput with the ISP provided wireless and an Apple Time Machine (AirPort Extreme). It's throughput is neck-and-neck with both the ISP router and the APE. Even though it's using 802.11ac, hardwired ethernet is still faster. So I would rate the performance as a strong average.
Where this unit is weak is in the setup, support and extended features. On first boot and connection, it attempts to have to complete a simple, generic setup. While this may be fine for 80% of consumers, having to put it behind a router without a true bridge mode will not work. You have to jump through a few hoops to get to the manual setup.
Once configured, I wanted to check out their implementation of the USB port for shared network storage. This is where it really falls apart. On the USB port they support only NTFS and allegedly HFS+. My drive was formatted with ExFAT so initially it did not work. After reformatting, I was finally able to mount the drive. But then the disappointment set in. I had connected a 60GB drive but only 103.5MB were available. The drive was freshly formatted with no other data so I never could determine what had happened. Also, the page that displays the connected USB device would sometimes update and sometimes not. If you create a new user or share, then it doesn't accept the username and password that you have assigned. Only uses the preset information.
What makes it worse is the documentation! The user guide included on the CD in the box is very generic. It provides little information other than initial generic setup.
Attempting to obtain more information on the support website was an exercise in futility. Search abilities on the website are rudimentary and very little additional information was available. For instance, I was only able to find out what USB drive formats were supported from a review on another website. Often when I was able to find what I was looking for, it did not match what was actually displayed on the web interface of the router.
In summary, if you're looking for just a simple router, to use in a very generic situation, with good wireless rates then this is an acceptable solution. If you have enhanced needs or wish to connect a USB peripheral to share on the network, then you should look to using equipment from another manufacturer.

Good router for medium distance
on May 20, 2016
Posted by: Arjay67
I tried this router with a few different computer and distance combinations. 1 - iMac Late 2015 w/802.11ac; 1 - Mac Mini w/802.11n; 1 - HP Desktop w/802.11n; 1- iPhone 6; 1-iPad 4th gen; 1- iPad Mini 3
I also compared its performance to the existing UVerse Gateway the supports 802.11ac; and an older Apple Time Machine that only supports 802.11n.
I have UVerse as my broadband provider. Due to that, initial setup can be a bit tricky and should not be attempted by a novice.
I found transfer rates to be acceptable when the computers were in the 2-10 meter range. With the ac bands, there was a small improvement in speed, but still nothing close the a wired connection. And if you get much further, or if you are too close (1m away) the rates will drop sharply. Even on the "ac" channels, which has a therorectical rate of 1Gbps, the actual is usually closer to 195Mbps. Having the two USB ports is a bonus for sharing peripherals on the network, but compatibility is drive dependant. In a price/performance rating the value is on the low side of average. I get equal or better throughput from two other cheaper routers, one of those being the built-in WiFi on the gateway supplied by my ISP.
The inclusion of the 8 Gigabit wired ports is the biggest bonus for me. I have wired my home with Ethernet cabling to take advantage of the maximum data rates possible.
The status lights are a joke. One ambiguous, pulsing series of bars and other short/fine lines that are very nondescript. If you are going to have status lights of any kind, make them meaningful and clear.
In short, if you are trying to get the most out of your WiFi; and you are in the 2-10 meter range; and you don't have a lot of obstructions like walls, floors, etc.; and you have a good chunk of money to burn; and you want bragging rights then this is the router for you. But if you don't want to spend a lot and just need to replace an old WiFi router or upgrade to newer protocols, there are a lot of other less expensive routers out there that will work well.

Nice keyboard--short battery life; short key life
on April 8, 2015
Posted by: Arjay67
from Kankakee, IL
Overall it is initially a good keyboard. But after about 8 months of use the battery would no longer charge. Went through a lengthy and annoying RMA process and received a refurbished replacement. Now after 6 months the battery is failing again and it's out of warranty. Also, the Command key on both keyboards is intermittently non-responsive. Might be better if the battery was user replaceable but it is NOT.

My Favorite!

Green Mountain Breakfast Blend has quickly become my favorite coffee after receiving a Keurig brewer for my birthday. It is a robust flavored coffee that is never too bitter like so many other brands. It tends to be a little more expensive, but with some bargain hunting and couponing you can often find it at a more reasonable price. There was even one time I was at a BestBuy store and they were discounting some "old stock" and I purchased it for 50% off. What a bargain! Even though it's called a breakfast blend, it's very suitable for all-day drinking.

Nice clock/radio/bluetooth receiver

Verified Purchase:Yes
When my last alarm clock started missing digits, I went looking for a replacement. I chose this one because it was a fair priced alternative that had Bluetooth functionality. So I can use it with all of my iOS devices or just use it as a clock radio. Radio reception is good and there are three brightness settings so that it doesn't keep you awake at night. The unit is nicely style, however, there is an odd grill on the front that goes over the display. Not really a problem, but it makes it appear a little odd when you wake up in the middle of night bleary-eyed. I purchased this when it was on sale a couple of months ago, but now it's on sale for even less!

The dirtiest holster I know of
on September 13, 2012
Posted by: Arjay67
from Kankakee, IL
This holster clips securely to my belt. It holds my iPhone snuggly enough that it won't fall out on accident, but not so tight that it becomes tough to remove. The magnetic closures hold secure as well. My primary beef with it is that it has a fuzzy lining that lets off from the very first use. I'm constantly having to wipe the fuzz off of my screen. I bought it due to the style and price. I think I'll probably go with one of the Otterbox Defenders instead.
What's great about it: holds secure
What's not so great: leaves residue on phone

Great phone & network, beware of gotchas
on September 2, 2012
Posted by: Arjay67
from Kankakee, IL
Age:45-54
Phone size:Just right
I haven't traveled much since getting my iPhone but within my home area the reception and signal strength has been every bit as good as Verizon or T-Mobile. It's even a little better than T-Mobile within my home. I like that when I purchase an app or music, take a photo, make a note, send/receive email, etc it effortlessly gets synced to my iPad and Mac. I find myself needing to recharge every 1-2 days so I'd love to see better battery life, but that does improve when I remember to turn on WiFi when not in use. Apple needs to restore the ability to access those functions so that app developers can create the one-touch access to turn them on or off. I was unsure just how much data I would need so I opted for the 5GB plan. In casual use over three weeks I've only used 150MB so I think it might be overkill.
One cautionary note: If you have a corporate savings plan like I do, know the details prior to signing up. When I got my phone the rep was unfamiliar with my savings plan. He was not able to add it to the account at the time of purchase. He said all I would need to do is call AT&T myself and it would be added to the account. This was not true, I had to register for it online and couldn't do so until 3 days later. That three day delay cost me an extra $12.00 in missed discounts.
What's great about it: syncs w/my Mac & other iOS devices, very good photos, sound quality, call clarity
What's not so great: Average battery life--would like more

Just what I needed at the price I wanted!

I picked this up to replace a 4 year old PNY that failed. I wanted 8GB and have always liked the cap-less design of the Cruizer's. (had a 1GB model previously) I was surprised and impressed at the transfer speed. My old PNY I never had any complaints with but this thing (in comparison) just screams! I don't have the full specs, but it easily transfers at least twice as fast as my last one. I also managed to get this one on sale for around $9 so that just made it sweeter.
