Go-To Portable Mess Cleaner
on October 11, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
This thing has become my new favorite all-around mess cleaning tool, and I use it mostly for cleaning out messes in the cars. The overall size of the unit is about what you would expect for most portable, smaller shop vacs / carpet spot cleaners and the weight is comprable as well. But where I was really impressed was the care to detail in the little things that Shark put into place here.
For starters, this is a corded device, which has it's pros and cons. The biggest pro to a corded device is that I don't need to worry about a battery dying on me while I'm trrying to clean something. The biggerst con is that because it's corded, there's some navigation logistics to manage moving around the cars to clean them out... but it's nothing that a good extension cord can't fix.
The unit comes with several attachments as well, your basic crevice tool and smaller vac head. I saw on the box that they also featured a larger vac head, but I was dissappointed to learn that the larger vac head was an "optional" accessory. When I checked Shark's website, the larger vac head was sold out, so wasn't able to vaccuum out the back of our van with the larger head that I had hoped I would be able to.
One of the coolest features with this thing is that you can take the debris bin off and it's dishwasher safe. So if you have a wet mess that you're cleaning up, you can pop the bin off and stick in the dishwasher for a good clean... but I wouldn't recommend doing that mixed with dishes. At least, I didn't. The other nice part of the bin is that you can use any smaller trash bag with it, you don't have to rely on proprietary size bags. Small kitchen trash bags or even the occasional grocery store plastic bag work just fine.
I've used this to clean up all manner of messes, but mostly, I use it to clean out our van that carries around 2 busy kids and 1 crazy dog. I've been impressed with how well it cleans, the cleaning power provided by a corded solution, and the portability of the size. This is now my go-to solution when there's a mess to clean and it's Dad's job to clean it up.

Great Travel Laptop
on October 2, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
The Acer Swift Edge 16 has a lot going for it, making it an attractive option for an on-the-go option for someone who values portability. From the large, 16" OLED screen, to the full keypad complete with 10-key arrangement, to the extremely lightweight build, the Swift Edge certainly is a great option for a Windows user on the go.
It should be noted that I did not find the Switft Edge to be on the same level as a Windows gaming laptop that I have, but to be fair, I don't think the Swift Edge is targeted towards the gaming crowd. So, when I tested it out, I was mainly focused on more routine tasks like web surfing, document editing, and multimedia consumption.
I was blown away by the screen, which is well deserving of all the praise and attention. The Swift Edge 16 sports a gorgeous 16" OLED, 3K display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This made even the most mundane of Windows tasks feel vibrant and alive. A common issue I run into with laptop speakers is that they have very strong treble, and anemic bass. I listened to some music and while the speakers are certainly serviceable, they don't have a noticeable degree of bass. This made movie watching a half-hearted experience... gorgeous display, with lackluster sound.
The machine boasts some nice hardware on the inside, with the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 CPU. The built-in 1 TB of SSD memory is also great for being able to store a bulk of content without relying on some cloud service. My only gripe with the machine is the 16GB of RAM. I feel like 16GB of RAM is basic for machines, so I would’ve liked to have seen a 32GB option for this device to help future-proof it a bit.
The laptop itself sports 2 USB-A ports, 2 USB-C ports, HDMI-out, 2.5 AUX-out, and a micro SD card reader slot that is designed for the micro SD card size without requiring the larger adapter. All of these ports worked fine, and the laptop itself comes with a 65w USB-C power cord, so if you want to use this plugged-in without a hub, you’ll only have the 2 USB-A ports and the one USB-C port left.
Sadly, like most Windows devices, I had to spend the first 30 minutes after the initial set up removing all the standard pre-installed, free trial apps to get about as clean a machine as possible. Acer does bundle some additional services alongside the AMD software. The main option I turned on was the option to make the machine run “silent”. For whatever reason, this machine’s fans will kick on even if the machine is set to run in “silent” mode. If they get going, they can get quite loud for my tastes. Not as loud as the fans on my gaming laptop, but still very noticeable.
I found using the machine for daily tasks to be overall enjoyable. The built-in webcam is a nice feature that provides comparable resolution to my 1080p external webcam, so having it built in is nice because that’s one less thing to carry. I know I’ve mentioned portability a lot, and something nice and extra that comes with this laptop is a carrying case. Not anything rough and touch, but enough to tote around the laptop and the power cable. If you’re looking for a portable laptop with a beautiful screen for most light or basic tasks, then this might just be the machine you’re looking for. If you’re looking for something for more intensive tasks like gaming or video editing, then I would look at alternative options.

Good, Basic Webcam Situation
on October 1, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
In a market flooded with webcams that boast all kinds of features, the JLab Epic Cam is a good, basic webcam situation. Since I work from home mostly, I nearly spend all day on video calls, so I have 3 main criteria that I use to assess a video solution:
1 - It must be have good video with greater than, or equal to 1080p video resolution.
2 - It must require minimum-to-no bloatware to work.
3 - It must be lightweight and easy move around for travel.
The JLab Epic cam worked for my second 2 items pretty much out of the box. The camera itself is plug-n-play and was instantly detected by my Mac and Windows laptops across multiple apps like Zoom or Quicktime. From a physical connectivity stance, the camera has a connected cable that's built into the camera and ends in a standard USB-A connector. This was nice because my at home and travel docks have several USB-A 3.0 ports.
Like most webcams, the Epic also has built-in microphones. It's been my experience that no built-in webcam microphone sounds as good and clean as a dedicated microphone, but it's plenty good enough for most video calls over Zoom, Slack, or Google Chat.
While the camera advertises itself as a 2K camera, I honetly couldn't really tell a difference with this compared to another 1080p webcam that I compared it against. If I had to guess, the framerate of the camera looks like it's set at 30 FPS, so don't expect buttery movements.
If you're looking for a good, on the go, basic webcam solution, then this is a solid option. If you're looking for something that's more geared towards streaming or content creation, there are better options on the market.

Great Desktop Lighting Solution
on September 27, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
The Logitech Litra Beam was such an awesome addition to my home office set up. I typically work from home, so spend my days working on stuff for my job, but then at night, I shift the purpose of my space towards games and creating video content.
I've been a fan of Logitech's peripherals for years, and they're a brand that I trust to deliver a quality product and a great user experience. From my Harmony remotes, to my MX set up, the Litra Beam is a wonderful addition to any streaming or home video set up. Something I really love about this light is that there's actually 2 lights: a front-facing light that goes through all the white temps, and a back-facing light for ambiance / mood colors.
It's pretty stratightforward to set up. Out of the box, you get the Litra Beam, a standard power cord, and then a USB-C cable for connecting the light to your PC. On the light itself, there's a variety of switches to customize the light the way you want it. There's a toggle switch that allows you to customize the colors, temperature, and behaviors of the front-facing or rear-facing lights. The front light is only white, but can go from cold / daylight white to a warm candlelit type of light. You can also customize the brightness level from slightly dim to full blast.
The rear-facing lights are where the fun comes in, instead of switching between shades of white, you can toggle between different ambiant color lights. My personal favorite was the pulsing rainbow effect where the colors seem to move from the top to the bottom of the light. You can also control the intensity of the rear-facing light as well.
If you want, you can also download the Logitech app and connect the light to your PC and have it behave in a more customized way. I personally didn't see the need to try that out yet for the purposes of my review, because I was able to use the phyiscal buttons to customize it to how I like. Speaking of customization, you can also use the stand to mount the light in a vertical or horizontal manner. I currently have mine in the vertical mode, slightly angled towards my face to create a more dramatic light for my video.
If you're looking for a great desktop light solution that provides a lot of options, as well as fun ambiant options, then the Litra Beam LX should be on your list to check out!

Awesome Mobile Creation Solution
on September 26, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
I believe that GoPro cameras have become synonomous with their product category, like Kleenix or Vaseline. I view them as the standard for the outdoor, on-the-go camera solution. Since I've been working on creating more content, I wanted something that was more rugged and could easily go with me from place to place in different settings.
The GoPro Hero 12 Creator bundle has literally everything you need to create beautiful, 4K video content in a single, on-the-go, package. The bundle comes in it's own contained case for easy travel and packing. The case itself feels strong and sturdy, and I felt safe tossing it in the back of the car.
Inside the case, you get the GoPro Hero 12 camera, the external Media Mod housing case with microphone, portable light, microphone noise cover, Enduro Battery, and more importantly, you also get the Volta Battery Grip. The grip doubles as both an in-hand wand, as well as a tripod for stationary shots. The Volta Grip also pairs with the camera over Bluetooth, and can also work as a wireless remote as long as you're not too far away from the camera.
I really enjoyed using the camera to capture all sorts of memories and content. The image quality was amazing and the battery life was more than I expected, but I ran into 2 odd scenarios that caused me to bump the rating from 5 to 4 stars. First, while you can connect the GoPro to a Mac or PC over USB-C cables, I had trouble reliably porting videos from the camera's SD card onto my laptops. Since I usually keep the GoPro inside the Media Mod case, I rely on the camera's USB-C port for connecting to my computer.
I ended up having to remove the case, which takes some work, remove the memory card from the camera and plug it into my laptop in order to successfully transfer videos. Since the Media Mod case is meant to be a rugged type case to allow for connecting different accessories, this is a pain since the Media Mod case's release clamp is very tight.
And since we're on the subject of USB connectivity, I also noticed that GoPro offers an app that lets the camera be used as a webcam. I thought, 'Cool, I can use this for content on the go as well as creating content directly from my laptop.' However, I found that for some reason, GoPro limits the camera's video resolution to 1080p and, what I imagine is 30 FPS. With such a beefy camera that can record video in 5.3K HDR video, this feels like an artificial limitation over USB-C. I have not yet tried to use my 4K capture card yet to see if this works, so your mileage may vary if you go that route.
All that being said, I really love creating content with this, and I feel much more secure using this camera in the outdoors for more exciting, high-speed fun recording!

Beast Mode
on September 20, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
I was wanting to upgrade the smart speaker in my home office and boy oh boy, this thing is a BEAST! Compared to other JBL speakers I've had in the past, the Authentics 500 is hands down, the best one I've ever owned.
First, let's talk about size, this thing is big! This thing comes in around 9.5 inches tall, 18 inches wide, and 10 inches deep, so make sure you have the space needed. The over all physical design feels very premium. On the top, there's 5 control knobs and buttons. Starting from the left, the first knob is push-on for power, and rotate the dial for volume. Then, there's 2 smaller buttons, one for Bluetooth and one for favorites. The last 2 knobs control the level of treble and bass.
Speaking of bass, there's a large woofer on the bottom of the 500 that fires deep bass tones downward while the mids and highs are pushed through the front grill. The 500 is a HiFi speaker capable of firing Dolby Atmos sound if connected to the proper source. On the back, there's a standard 2-prong power connector, ethernet LAN connector, 3.5 Aux input, and USB-C. So plenty of ports to connect to whatever devices you have.
A unique feature of the 500 compared to other smart speakers is the ability to connect and use Amazon Alexa AND Google Assistant at the same time. Unlike other 3rd party smart speakers where you can have only a single voice assistant active, the 500 lets Alexa and Google ride side-by-side. Admittedly, there were some times where it didn't catch the wake word, but I still like the ability to not have to use 2 smart speakers to use 2 different digital assistants.
When it comes to playing music, the 500 really shines. I've been using it in AirPlay mode to stream music and everything from classical music to heavy metal comes through crystal clear. The symphonic melodies of Beethovan, or the grinding guitars of Metallica, I haven't come across anything that didn't sound amazing.
There's also a companion app that you'll need to download to set up this to connect to your home's WiFi and activate the digital assistant features, but you can also adjust the audio equalizer as well, so it really felt like a companion app and not a piece of bloatware that just hogs space on your phone.
I've had this thing for a little over a week and I love it!

Just OK
on September 20, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
I've been intrigued by the idea of the sunglasses & speaker combo devices since they started coming on the market over the past few years, but I've always been hesitant to try them out. This is for one fundamental reason, when you combine 2 different things, there's always compromise and trade-offs that deliver a "just OK" user experience.
The packaging of the sunglasses was top notch, and I also was appreciative of the fact that there's no bloatware app to download to use these things. Out of the box, they paired with my iPhone like a regular pair of Bluetooth headphones. But as soon as I got them out of the box, I started noticing the trade offs.
First, the glasses are made out of plastic, and I found the amount of give to be less than desireable. This is frankly because I have a larger, oval shaped head & face. I could feel the hinges over-extending themselves when I tried to wear the sunglasses, and because of the rigid design, the glasses didn't really hug my face like my normal sunglasses to. This led to more light bleeding in around the edges.
Next up was the controls, there's a single button on either arm. That's it. There's a tap and hold for 7 seconds for power, single tap for volume up on one side, down on the other, double tapping for play / pause, and triple tap for skip track. There's also tap and hold for 3 seconds to engage the voice assistant (Siri or Google). That's a lot of random tapping that didn't feel very intuitive. I frequently would get registers of volume / up down because I didn't tap fast enough, or if my fingers rolled as I walked, I would engage the voice assistant instead of powering off.
The next compromise was the sound itself. I found these to be heavy on the treble, light on the bass when compared to my regular earbuds. Also, the idea is that the speakers are pointed towards your ears, but other people around me could totally hear my phone calls and music if they stood next to me. Something to be aware of if you're taking a call where privacy is paramount.
Finally was the cable. Instead of a standard micro-usb or usb-c port, there's a proprietary USB-A to magnetic dual-diode connection for each arm, meaning you have to connect each arm to charge. I dislike propritary chargers because if they break, or get lost, you're basically left with a just OK pair of sunglasses.
All in all, these remind of me of the TV+DVD combo sets from when I was younger. They were OK devices, but trying to pair 2 things together, you end up with just OK sunglasses and anemic speakers. Between wearing these, or my regular sunglasses and using my seperate earbuds, I'll leave the Lucyd's at home.

Perfect Addition
on September 6, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
I've loved my Hypervolt massage gun, and have used it after many workouts and runs. So the option to pick up a tip that also had a heating element was something I just had to try out. The head itself is a pretty solid, self-contained add-on for my Hypervolt.
The head itself is essentially a larger flat massage gun head. The device itself has a single USB port for charging and a 3-tier heating system. I was surprised how much heat even the base level gave off. Using this on my legs after a run felt wonderful. I also liked using it on my lower back after some weight lifts.
I've never managed to reach the point where the battery runs out, so I believe the battery life is more than enough for my needs. The only real downside to adding the unit to my Hypervolt set up is that it's much larger than any other heads, so it doesn't fit in the travel bag that the Hypervolt came with for additional heads.
I'm honestly looking forward to the coming winter with cooler weather to try out the heated head when it'll be a much more noticeable, and relaxing, experience. If you have a Hypervolt massage gun, then I heartily recommend you picking this up and add to your set up.

Love this Thing
on August 30, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
We have mixed flooring in our home. The downstairs is hardwood mostly with tile in the kitchen. With 2 kids and a big dog, keeping the floors clean can be a challenge. We have a regular, battery powered vacuum that works for most of what we need, but it doesn't actually clean the floor.
I've used another tool that was similiar in concept to this a few years ago. But this Tineco S6 thing is a really nice upgrade and I'm really happy with it. My only real issue with it are the brushes that come with the cleaner. All of the brushes are soft, so when it came to trying to clean up some of the mud that my dog tracked in, I had to go over it several times.
Out of the box, you get the Tineco S6 floor cleaner, 2 brush rolls, a base, additional replacement filter, and most importantly, the cleaning solution. The cleaning solution smells really nice, which is nice because it leaves the floors smelling clean and fresh. The S6 also features a large, easy-to-read LCD screen that shows battery life. There's also helpful audio prompts.
I was also really impressed with the different modes that you can activate. When it kicks on, it's initially in a default / automatic mode. There's also additional options for increased suction or more power overall. I was also really impressed that when I was done cleaning, there's an option to have the S6 go through a self-cleaning cycle to keep the brushes clean.
Another nice feature is that the base serves 3 purposes:
1) Base to keep the roller brushes clean / off the floor.
2) Recharges the device when the base is plugged in.
3) Self cleaning stand.
All in all, I'm really impressed with the device, and would greatly recommend it.

Cool Idea, but Didn't Really Cut It
on August 30, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito

Picked this up for my wife and my daughter's to try out. My wife and one of my daughters have kinky-curly hair and my other daughter has wavy hair. Since my wife usually helps the girls get their heair ready, I thought this would be a cool thing to try out.
But we weren't really impressed with the results when we used it on my oldest's wavy hair so we never used it on our youngest daughter with kinky-curly hair. I mean, it worked and my daughter's hair looked OK, but we weren't like, blown away by it.
Also, my wife did this in about 20 minutes. She used the blow dryer function, but it did not take curl out of hair, but the hair did dry OK. Perhaps if you spent more time you could get a straighter result. But she think the “smoother” part of the tool works well. No fly aways and calms frizz.
As far as smoothing hair, it did not remove her natural wavy hair and make it straight so if you are looking for more of a straightener and you have wavy or curly hair, this probably isn’t the tool for you. She likes the the design of the tool. There’s a grip on the end so you don’t burn yourself. It’s not too heavy and the brush is nice. She thinks it would work on hair that is mostly straight already, we did not have luck removing all the waves. It heats up quickly, but wouldn't really work unless your hair is already mostly dry.

Can you use the air purifier with the windows both open and closed?

I’ve had mine running and have opened the windows in my home office a few times during the day - I think it’ll depend more on the air quality outside. I wouldn’t try to have my windows open during an Ozone Action day here in Texas to see how this thing fairs - but during temperate days, it’s been fine.

Shark AI Robot VACMOP combines powerful vacuum suction and hard floor wet mopping for a complete clean, all in one robot. Features include: Shark suction power, Sonic Mopping that delivers 100 scrubs per minute for stuck-on stains, and AI Laser Navigation for precision cleaning.

"We would like to let you know that this Robot also works to vacuum carpets." This is the response that I got when I asked "Does it work on carpet?" Sounds to me that it doesn't work on carpet but they want you to buy it anyway.

The beater bar on this doesn't look like it's meant to get into the fibers of the carpet. I don't have it vacuum mine, I have it only for the hard floors.

I'm trying to confirm if this connects directly to WiFi and no Arlo hub or base station is needed to use the camera??

I paired mine with my existing Arlo hub - but it does appear to indicate you can use it without one.

I need to know : it works like sígnale splitter ?

No - it won't split a signal to 2 USB-C devices. One USB-C port is for charging only and the other is for audio output. The device has picture indicators on it identifying which port is for charging (lightning bolt) and for audio (headphones).

Two USB Type-C ports support Power Delivery for charging mobile devices rapidly, while the HDMI output lets you connect a UHD display. This HyperDrive DUO seven-in-two USB Type-C hub has USB Type-A ports and microSD and SD card slots for fast data transfer.

Will the adapter fit comfortably if the computer is in a protective hard case/skin?

User submitted photo
It will - but I found it to feel a bit shaky. I was worried that I'd break the USB-C ports on the hub off inside the MacBook.

IS THIS EASY TO PAIR? IS IT NECESSARY TO PAIR EACH TIME THE TV AND HEADPHONES ARE TURNED ON, OR ONCE THE PAIR HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED CAN YOU FORGET ABOUT THE TRANSMITTER HANGING ON THE BACK OF THE TV? AND WHAT KIND OF RANGE DOES IT TRANSMIT?

I've never had an issue with mine losing / forgetting connection. I can't speak to range since I've only used it within a few feet at most, but I've had no issues.
