Perfect Full Sized Keyboard
on July 4, 2024
Posted by: cjviscito
I'm a fan of Logitech's accessories, and have been for years. I've had the Craft, which I loved but it wasn't compatible with Logitech's new Options+ software or Bolt receiver. So then went to the MX Mechanical Mini, which is awesome, but my job situation changed and began doing more data entry and analysis, so I wanted a keyboard that had the 10-key setup. So I went with the MX Keys S because I've had a great experience with my MX Master S3 mouse.
I love this keyboard! It's got a great balance of weight, sleek feel, and responsive keys. The main differences between the Mac versions and the PC version comes down to 2 main points:
- There are several keys that are reformatted for Mac specific OS commands
- There's no Bolt receiver in the box, Bluetooth is the only default connection option
The lack of an included Bolt receiver is the only reason I docked a star off the review, and that's because the Mac's bluetooth is temperamental, no fault of Logitech here... but with the Bolt receiver, the connection is rock solid.
I've been using this keyboard for about a week now. I have a mixed environment set up, everything plugs into my monitor and I run a single USB-C cable to my personal Mac. When it's time to work, I simply unplug my personal Mac and plug in my work one. I also have a Windows gaming laptop that I use as well. The keyboard worked great on all devices, since the Bolt receiver I paired it with stays plugged into the monitor.
Even after a week of regular use, the keyboard's battery is still going strong. It does come with a single USB-C to USB-C for charging, but there's no power brick, so you'll need a power brick, or open USB-C port that supplies power to recharge the keyboard.
The typing experience is sublime. The keys have a convex top, that basically invites your finger tips to type with ease and certainty. If you're looking for a great Mac keyboard, then this is probably the best one to get!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Perfect Bedside Charging Station
on June 20, 2024
Posted by: cjviscito
The Journey Trio Ultra is exactly the single charging solution I've been wanting to find for my nightstand. I've tried several "all-in-one" solutions, and there's always been a trade off. Stands unable to support quick charging, some require me to use my own Apple Watch cable, or something that makes the user experience less than awesome.
I've used this for about a week now and I can safely say that this thing checks all the boxes for what I needed.
The charger itself comes packaged very nicely, reminiscent of Apple products. I love that Journey took care in how to package and present this, the supporting materials, cables, and even stickers.
Out of the box, you get the stand, a USB-C to USB-C cable and the power brick. So nice to see a product that thinks enough of the user to include a proper power brick, and one at a compact size. The stand itself has a nice degree of weight and heft to it, it gives it a feel of care in the design.
I've been using this to charge my iPhone 15 Pro, Apple Watch Series 8, and AirPods Pro. Unlike other stands I've used in the past, the Journey hasn't missed a beat. Never an issue where power flow is mismanaged, causing devices to charge unevenly or stop altogether.
The design of the stand is also one of may favorite aspects. The magnetic charging puck for the phone sits high enough to make grabbing and dropping my AirPods a breeze without bumping into or knocking off the phone. The charging spot for the Watch since nicely at the back, and allows for watch bands that are fixed loops to hang without bumping into anything else.
I love how clean this looks, how it charges, how much care Journey took in the design, presentation, and performance. I couldn't recommend it highly enough!

Mobile Party Speaker
on April 24, 2024
Posted by: cjviscito
Look, I love Sony electronics. I've been a die hard Sony fan since my first Vaio and Trinitron, and I've had several Sony bluetooth speakers in the past. But nothing prepared me for seeing and firing up the ULT 7 speaker.
Let's get the obvious out of the way, this thing is massive. When standing on its end, I'd say it's like 2 feet tall and between 15-20 pounds. The fact that Sony calls this a "portable" is factually accurate. The rings on either end are of sturdy construction and you can lift this up and move around. This is not the kind of speaker that's meant for grab-n-go. You bring this thing when you want to host a block party or something.
According to Sony, a 10-minute charge gives you 3 hours of music, while a fully charged battery can last for up to 30 hours. That's a lot of music! I assume your mileage may vary depending on volume and if you've got the ULT sound setting on or not. Speaking of ULT, there's a toggle to engage the ULT bass mode which I highly recommend you leave on at all times. With it off, the speaker still sounds loud and great, but when ULT is engaged, there's a whole other world of bass that gets added. There's 2 modes for the ULT setting, ULT-1 and ULT-2... I recommend ULT-2 for deep, powerful sound.
The ULT 7's only wireless mode is Bluetooth. Sadly, there's no AirPlay option here, but there's a whole host of connection options and settings between the back of the ULT speaker and through Sony's Music Control app. The back sports inputs for:
- Mic / Guitar jack with level control dial
- 3.5 Aux line-in jack
- USB-A port with 5v passthrough power
In addition to those options, you can also control the key, make the sound sharper or flatter. There's also an Echo button to add some cool effects and manual buttons for Battery life management and toggling the lights on and off. You can also control all of these same settings with the Sony Music app.
Finally, this thing is made to move and be moved. The ULT 7 is waterproof, dustproof, and even rustproof - so you can rock out at the beach without a worry. Sadly, I live in Texas, and not by the beach, so no beach jamming for me, at least not yet!

Solid 3-Ring Electric Razor
on April 24, 2024
Posted by: cjviscito
I picked this up to replace an older 3000 series that wasn't holding a charge anymore. If you're familiar with Norelco's razor line, then there's really not that much to say. I didn't find this experience to be all that different from previous 3-ring razors from Norelco that I used in the past - and that's part of the appeal, I have a good idea about the quality of shave I'll get.
First off, the 2600 comes with 3 items in the box:
- Razor
- USB A charging cable (no power brick)
- Thin carrying case
Let's get my main gripe out of the way, I don't like that Philips isn't including a way to charge their razors without the use of a power brick from another source. If Philips was concerned about "e-waste" by bundling a power brick, then they could've left the charging port the same on the 2600 as it was on my 3000, but nope - can't use the same power cable, so I had to charge it with some random USB-A power brick that I had. It feels disingenuous to remove a way to charge a battery powered device while also making it incompatible with cables from recent Norelco products.
Now that's out of the way, I primarily use the 2600 the way I used my old 3000. I have pretty thick facial hair, most electric razors end up pulling the hairs out instead of curtting them. So I trim the hair down around my neck with a different razor first, then follow up with the 2600 to ensure most of the stubble is trimmed down. I've never had an electric razor that gets as smooth of a shave as a traditional blade does, but I also appreciate the convenience of a quick shave that's good enough, which is what the 2600 provides.
It is also wet / dry usable, but I've never used it wet. Call me odd, but the thought of brining in an electric device into the shower just seems, well, off.

Great Gaming Headset
on February 28, 2024
Posted by: cjviscito
I wanted a great pair of headphones to cap off a new home gaming set up I finished. Right now, it's just a PC, but I have plans to expand it to include a PS5 as well. I started looking for good gaming headphones, so when the option to pick up the Logitech Astro A50 X's came up, I jumped at the chance.
The main reason I was keen on these is due to the dock that comes with the headphones. It allows multiple connections, so you can connect multiple gaming set ups, like a Xbox or PS5, and then run a single HDMI out to your TV or monitor. The PC connection is also available, and it uses a single USB-C cord that splits in to a USB-C end for power, and a USB-A end for connecting to a PC. I have a USB Hub for all my peripherals to connect with, so plugging in the cord was a simple plug-n-play experience.
The headphones also offer the option of a Bluetooth connection, which I plan to test out later with my iOS devices. But enough about that, let me dig into some of the cool features of this thing and why they've become my go-to headset to use at my desk, not just for gaming, but video calls and anything else that requires headphones and a mic. As far as controls on the headphones, there's your basic power toggle, a Bluetooth button, source switch, and volume rocker. There's also a USB-C port on the bottom of the right-hand cup.
Like I said, the dock has support for multiple connections. You can wire up your Xbox or PS's HDMI line to the dock and then use another HDMI 2.1 cable to connect the dock to your screen. It's worth noting that you will need to supply your own HDMI cables, the A50 X's don't come with any HDMI cables in the box. The dock also serves as the charging cradle for the headphones, they neatly fit and connect right away. There's 4 white LEDs on the front of the dock that indicate level of charge, as well as smaller screens that indicate what connection you're using. In my case, it says PC.
One last note on the dock, Logitech states that the dock supports HDMI 2.1, 4K with 120 Hz rate with 24 bit audio. This is great, and you'll also need to ensure whatever device or monitor you're using also supports those specs. I'm looking forward to hooking up my new PS5 to this device to test that out.
The headphones themselves are also fairly large, but not over-sized. They comfortably fit on my head and I've been able to wear them for several hours playing without feeling any kind of strain on my head or ears that I've experienced with other over-the-ear headphones. In terms of sound quality, these things are very impressive. They support Dolby Atmos audio, which makes my gaming experience more immersive, and Logitech's Pro-G Graphene Drivers deliver crystal clear sound without any kind of lag or delay. It's worth noting that these do not appear to offer any kind of noise cancellation, or at least, not that I've uncovered in my testing. The cups do a well enough job of blocking outside sound in my case, but considering the A50 X's price point, I would've loved to see them include noise cancelling so you can achieve full immersion into the game I'm playing.
The cups on the headphones are also removable, held on with magnets, which is nice because it makes them easier to clean off, if needed. Something else of note on the cups is they're made with a kind of fabric that I found to be comfortable, more so than leather or any other kind of fabric. The headband also features this same kind of padding, which is awesome.
The A50 X's also feature a rotating boom mic that offers excellent audio quality. I personally don't do a lot of multiplayer online gaming because that's not my kind of experience. I have used the mic for several work calls since I also work from home, and people have asked what kind of mic I have because the quality is crystal clear on their end. The boom mic rotates up and stays out of my way gaming mostly, but it's nice to know that Logitech didn't skimp on the quality for the mic.
Finally, the A50 X's advertise a 24 hour battery life. As a dad with a family and full time job, I haven't put these through any more than a 2 ~ 3 hour timespan. I will say these never skipped a beat, and even after that length of time, all 4 LEDs were still lit, so I have no reason to believe that these wouldn't deliver longer battery life for someone who really needed to push them that far.
So why only 4 stars? Honestly, my biggest gripe with these was the lack of noise cancellation. Considering the premium features Logitech included with the A50 X's, this feels like an odd oversight. The only thing I can think of is that Logitech prioritized the battery life and other sound quality features and felt that noise cancelling wasn't needed. In my experience it's not "needed" but it would certainly be a nice to have option.

Great for Home Office
on January 23, 2024
Posted by: cjviscito
My wife has got a new job and started working from home. Once we got her office set up, she wanted a printer in her office, and was very particular about what she wanted in it:
- Table top unit, not a massive multi-function unit
- Fast, clean printing
- Laserjet
- Color was a bonus, but she was fine with a black and white printer.
I've used Brother devices in other offices and found them to be great, compact devices that printed quick and clean. So when the option to try out one of these printers came up, it checked all the boxes she had.
Setting up the device was quick and easy, and we had it connected to her laptop within moments. She's already used it for printing off several documents for work, but she's also used it to print off homework sheets for our girls. This device being roughly the same size as a regular printer, it has a nice and small footprint.
It's a basic black and white device, so if you're looking for something in color, then this isn't the device for you. However, if all you need is black and white or grayscale prints, then this is a great option. Something else we love about it is that it's a laser jet printer. The big difference between ink jets and laser jets is that ink jets use cartridges with ink where laser jets use powder toner cartridges, meaning they don't dry out.
So if you're an infrequent printer, or you print a lot, a laser jet is a great choice because they're faster to print, and if you don't print as much, you don't have to worry about the ink in the cartridges drying up resulting in costly replacements.

OK Gamepad, Lots of Promise
on December 30, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
I picked this up to use with my Windows gaming laptop to replace the older, discount USB-A corded controller that I've been using for casual gameplay for years. My review will be based around using this controller on a Windows laptop running Windows 11 and Steam, I don't have a X-Box, so can't speak to that.
I've been using this controller for serveral weeks now, mostly playing games like Dark Souls 3, Doom Eternal, and other games that I thought would be good to test for any delays or lags in the controller.
Out of the box, you get:
- Carrying case
- Contoller
- USB A dongle
- Charging dock with USB-C to USB-A cable
I reviewed the set up and I noticed that you can actually connect the USB-A dongle to the charging dock. In my case, I have the charging dock connected to my laptop's hub, so I'm able to leave the dongle in the base, and the base connected to my computer. This is nice because I was able to have a cleaner set up on my desk without having to figure out a USB port for power and another for the dongle.
There is also Bluetooth functionality that you can use to pair it with devices over BT instead if you want. I was able to test getting it connected to my iPad and Mac as a generic Bluetooth gaming controller as well. However, I ususally leave it set to use the dongle because I feel like it just works better, but YMMV.
There's also an app you can download and that's really where the source of my frustrations with this controller came to light and I feel really took away from the promise of the device. For starters, you can have different profiles on the controller with different lights, features, etc... but you can't rename them. At least, I wasn't able to figure out how to do it in the iOS app.
So what sets this apart from a regular X-Box controller? There's a few extra buttons under neath the grips that you can use if you're playing a game the supports custom button mapping, you can have different lighting effects on the controller while you play, and there's an app that does... something.
That's when I started to question the value of this controller. It feels like regular plastic like other controllers, it vibrates like other first party controllers do, and other than the LCD screen that lets you cycle through different profiles, which you can't name, or lighting effects, I don't know if this thing is really ready to be considered a "premium" gaming controller.
It's a nice controller in spite of the drawbacks, and it handled several sessions of mutltiple hours of gaming without the battery dying, and I'm still planning on using it. But if you're looking for just a basic controller, than this thing is overkill. I hope that Turtle Beach will refine the controller's app experience and software, because I have no doubt that this will get better if the company is willing to invest more into it.

Perfect On-the-Go Solution
on December 2, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
Now that all my Apple products have USB-C connections, I needed something that I could easily and safely bounce around with between home, the office, and on the road. This little beast is the perfect on-the-go solution for anyone with Apple gear.
Here are a few things I've noticed while using it:
First, because it's a SSD, this thing is totally silent. I've moved larger media project files between my iPad and MacBook Pro. There's impressive read-write speeds also, which makes working with beefier files much less of a hassle.
Second, right out of the box, the drive is formatted with APFS. This means it worked right out of the box with my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. It was really cool to see a drive that works out of the box, without any special reformatting required, or the pop up saying that I can't use the drive because it's drawing too much power. I plugged it into my iPad Pro and it immediatly showed up in the Files app.
Third, I've also used this as a Time Machine device to create local backups of my MacBook Pro instead of relying on iCloud Backups. I have no issue with iCloud as a backup service, and haven't had any issues in the past, but I was curious to see how this would perform as a local backup option. It's small and discrete and I'm able to connect it and keep it out of the way.
Crucial also throws in some feebies to try out, for example, there's a 1-month trial membership to Adobe to try out some of their creative apps.

Luxury Headphones
on November 19, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
I'm a sucker for a new pair of headphones that make bold claims about delivering a superior user experience that doesn't sacrifice sound quality. Long story short, I was blown away by the sound quality, and the comfort of wearing the Px8 headphones for both watching movies and listening to music.
In the box, there's the Px8, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-C to aux cable. Everything comes secure and well managed in a hardshell case. I was pleasantly surprised by this because the last pair of what I considered to be "luxury headphones" came with no case, just a fabric bag. I downloaded the Bowers & Wilkins Music app from the App Store and was up and running in no time.
The headphones themselves exude a premium feel. The leather around the cones and headband is super soft and comfortable. The arms connecting the earphones to the band are sturdy and metal. There's a surprising amount of weight that I feel when holding them, but it disappears when I wear them on my head. The attention to detail in the weight balance was delightful.
I was keen to try out the noise cancelling feature, so I connected my phone and fired up my favorite Apple Classical music playlist. I sat back and closed my eyes. I felt like I was inside the music, which was so nice. Everything else going on around me, my wife and kids, I heard nothing except the music. Speaking of music, there are several streaming services that you can connect the BW Music app to if you're interested. I'm an Apple Music user, and that wasn't one of the services, but no big deal.
I was also surprised by the regular setting that doesn't cancel noise. I was able to hear both my movie and be aware of what was going on around me, but not in a distracting way.
With respect to battery life, I accidentally left them on over night and was surprised to see they were still over 90% the next morning. I'm not sure if the device went to sleep on it's own, or if the Bluetooth Low Energy feature is to thank, but it was a welcome surprise. My previous headphones would just drain down if that happened, requiring a recharge before use.
Speaking of power, it's important to note that using the USB-C to aux cable does not work unless the headphones are turned on, there's no "passive" mode here. When I connected them to my MacBook Pro and used the aux cable, the Mac saw the headphones, but nothing worked until I flipped them on. I was also able to use the standard USB-C to USB-C line to connect them to my Mac and hear music. I believe this also has the added benefit of the Px8 drawing power from the Mac while being used, so I could see this being an attractive workaround.

All in One Smart Lock Kit
on November 19, 2023
Posted by: cjviscito
I picked up this kit to replace an older, regular lock. I have the Level Lock Touch version on another exterior door, and I really liked the Homekit integration, and I wanted the next smart lock I got to support Homekit and support Apple digital keys. This kit checked all the boxes for me.
If you've ever installed a Level Lock before, then this will be pretty straightforward, and the documents with the kit do a good job of walking you through the install. Honestly, all you need is a screwdriver set with both philips and flathead bits, and you'll be golden. This is one of those tasks that doesn't require you to be as handy as you'd think.
In the box, you get the Level Lock +, wireless keypad, and the WiFi adapter. Honestly, I didn't need the WiFi connector. That's only required if you want to pair your Level Lock+ with Google Home or Amazon Alexa. The lock and keypad work with Apple's Homekit right out of the box.
I had this thing installed, paired with my Homekit setup, codes assigned for my wife and kids, and a pass for us all in our Apple Wallets in less than 30 minutes, and most of that was spent taking off the older, original lock. I found the digital key in Apple Wallet to be a bit finicky, you basically have to have the top of the phone directly over the lock for it to register, the NFC field isn't that far.
The part of the set up that took the most time was getting the keypad and lock to register with eachother and then the subsiquent firmware update. It's a curse and a blessing... I want the thing to work right out of the box, but I also appreciate a company that pushes out frequent updates.
There's also 2 Level Keycards and 2 standard, pre-cut keys in the kit, which is nice because even if the Level Lock+ can't connect, or the battery is dead, you can still physically unlock the door with the key.
If you're an Apple Homekit user and you want a nice set up for a smart lock, this kit has everything you need.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Experience immersive entertainment options with this Sony 4K Blu-ray player. Its Ultra HD resolution provides exceptionally detailed screen images with increased brightness and more realistic color, and its support of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X provides cinema-quality sound. This Sony 4K Blu-ray player supports high-resolution audio formats for more accurate music reproduction.

Can this Sony Player connect to a soundbar receiver with blue tooth?

According to the specs, yes, you should be able to pair a unit with a Bluetooth soundbar - but to be fair, I didn't try it.

Simplify your everyday life with the Google Home, a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. Use voice commands to enjoy music, get answers from Google and manage everyday tasks. Google Home is compatible with Android and iOS operating systems, and can control compatible smart devices such as Chromecast or Nest."

What other device is need to turn lights off in your home?

You need a smart switch. Home natively supports Philips Hue - but if you have a WeMo switch like I do, you need to rely on the IFTTT app and write some if-then guidelines.

Which HDMI cable is the best? Audio Quest,Monster Cable,RocketFish

There's really no difference right now between HDMI cables. With Monster, you're paying for the brand and really nothing else when it comes to HDMI cables.

Best Buy has some cables that are online only and are a great value. No noticable difference between the value cable and a 3' Monster cable that I had.
