Outstanding Mouse and Software!

My last gaming PC was well before the explosion of gaming hardware you see nowadays from companies like Corsair. Were there nicer mice than others, sure, but nothing on the scale you see now. I asked a few friends that never got out of the PC upgrade game on the mice they liked and Corsair got quite a few mentions so I decided to give the Dark Core a shot. I am pretty darn happy with this mouse.
The feel of the mouse is great and I really like that it comes with an additional plate for the right hand side of the mouse because it gives a little platform for your pinky and keeps it out of the way. I never noticed just how much that finger drags on my desk but now that I have used this one, my mouse at work actually feels funny. Another thing I like about the ergonomics are the buttons and their actuations. It is easy to reach all of the buttons and they give a nice tactile click so that you feel it as well as hear it.
The software suite for the Dark Core is also really nice and makes it incredibly easy to change the led coloring, button layout, and responsiveness. It is also nice in that it is a unified software platform so that if you own multiple devices, you can control and sync them all through the same program. Now I know that this has become quite common with many peripheral companies but I liked the ease of use of the Corsair software. I also appreciated the calibration software that tailored the responsiveness of the mouse to my pad. In the past I was always forced to use the slider controls and ballpark the setting but running the quick little calibration tool dialed it right in for a really nice setting.
Right now I'm running it wired so responsiveness has been top notch but I like that I also have the option of both Bluetooth as well as RF through the adaptor. You can never complain when you have so many options for connection and it ensures the greatest versatility for a wide range of platforms.
Again, I am very happy with the Corsair Dark Core mouse and I think that I'm going to stick with Corsair when I go pick out my gaming keyboard. If they do as well with keyboards as they do mice, I think I will be really happy with it as well.

Great Toothbrush, Questionable 'Upgrades'

I have been a long-time Philips Sonicare customer and I love their products. They last a very long time and do a great job at what they are intended to do. In addition to getting the ProtectiveClean 6100 to replace my previous Sonicare toothbrush I also purchased their Sonicare AirFloss Ultra. It may sound like I have issues but I just recently had an implant put in and it is a bit more complicated to take care of than I was led to believe. That being said, I do take care of my teeth very well and in my 40+ years of having teeth not a single one has ever had a cavity (humblebrag over).
If you have ever used a Sonicare toothbrush or any of the other kinds of electronic toothbrushes, you will be well acquainted with how this one works. If you like you can go straight out of the box, put on some toothpaste, shove it in your mouth, hit power and clean away. The modes and intensities too me have always felt a bit too 'subtle'. I can tell it changes things up a bit but not enough to really change my experience.
One of the benefits of the 6100 series is that the brush can now use some new brush heads with an integrated RFID chip that will set the brush to the optimal mode for brushing. I didn't notice this 'benefit' until after I had opened everything up and started reading the instruction booklet, but if I had noticed it I would have been wary assuming that this brush could only use these new fangled (and probably more expensive brush heads). To my pleasant surprise, I found that the old style brush heads fit/work just fine, which is good because I have a pack of them that I just recently purchased. A lot of times a company will make these upgrades to lock you in to more expensive and proprietary parts but Philips in this case is just giving you the option. That being said the RFID also syncs with the brush head to let you know when to change it out, though I've never really had a problem figuring that out and I'm sure that timetable is skewed to Philips' favor. My only real gripe about this RFID upgrade is that when you read the instructions is would seem that every style of brush head gets the same setting of level three intensity, it just changes the mode depending on the brush head type from the normal clean, to whitening, to gum care. All of these modes are really just set timings. The quadpacer feature gives you a cue to move to another quadrant of your mouth every 30 seconds for a full 2-minute routine, that is the normal clean mode. For white mode, it just adds 30 seconds to the end to polish up your front teeth some more, and in gum care mode it gives you a minute extra to use the brush to massage your gums. Great if you follow the quadpacer timings, but I'm pretty sure I've got this brushing thing down by now.
One of the upgrades I did see that I was interested in and made me want this particular model was the pressure sensor to prevent you from beating up your teeth and gums. I have never been an overly aggressive brusher (my wife on the other hand absolutely destroys toothbrushes), but the dentist told me to be a little more careful than usual with the implant so I thought this might be a useful feature. It would be a useful feature if it didn't take an immense amount of pressure for the toothbrush to warn you. I have never brushed that hard in my life. I even had my wife put on her brush head to try it out and she even had to press harder than she normally does to get it to go off and like I said, she routinely gets yelled at by her dentist for her aggressive brushing. Perhaps I should talk to her... maybe she is taking out her pent up rage with me on her teeth. Oh well, that feature is pretty much useless.
Here are just a few more likes/dislikes of this toothbrush from a longtime Sonicare toothbrush user:
- Love that Philips has stuck with the same inductive charging base so I can use the UV disinfecting base that came with my previous brush or any of the other multitude of charge bases that I have. I also uses the same base as the AirFloss so I only have to take one with me on vacation (though charges usually last me a really long time - much longer than the 2 weeks that Philips states).
- Love the new look of the brush, nice sleek and satiny.
- Hate that that the new sleek and satiny finish is super slick and has fallen out of my hand twice already onto the floor (thank goodness for UV disinfection). The previous brushes had a rubber like back to them that was sticky enough to help you hold the brush. While I'm sure I'll adjust, it is annoying.
That's it for the review, if you are a longtime Sonicare user or a first-timer, you will be very happy with this brush. It does its job, it does it well, and if my previous toothbrushes are any indication, it will do it for many years.

Stellar Performance & Bass; Needs More NC Options

Disclaimer: I love Sony audio gear. From my first Walkman in the 80's, to my stereo components in the 90's, to a ton of different pieces in the 21st century, I have never been let down by Sony. My favorite headphones of all time are the latest WH-1000XM2 (and I have owned some pretty expensive audiophile gear with price tags 2-3 times the price of those headphones). They are the top of the heap when it comes to noise cancelling, tight sound, and comfort. I use them predominantly at work because my environment there is ridiculously distracting but even if I don't have music on, it gives me an oasis of quiet. I wanted another pair of NC headphones for traveling but didn't want to worry about banging them around in my carry on or buy a second pair of the M2s even though they are a reasonable price as well.
I haven't yet had the chance to wear the 700Ns on a plane so I can't speak to the noise cancelling ability of these cans in that environment (sorry next business trip isn't for another month). I can speak to how they do in a relatively noisy public space and home. I can also speak to their audio quality.
Let's start with the audio because it is the easiest. These things rock! The sound quality is superb across the spectrum with nice highs (that don't get shrill or sibilant), good mids for vocals, and a tight bass end with some serious oomph. The great thing is that if you download the Sony Headphones Connect app (and I highly recommend you do so), you can tweak the settings/equalizer to your liking but I thought they were great out of the box. Running it through my test playlist that I have used since I was buying $1000+ headphones, show the Sony 700Ns to be a solid piece of audio hardware.
Now to noise cancelling. The noise cancelling on the 700Ns is very good but not the top of the line level that you get with the Sony 1000XM2. I don't think it is that they couldn't be as good but there are two things holding it back: the ear cushions and the available NC settings. The ear cushions are great, as is the headband (I have no cushion of hair on the top of my head so I am always appreciative of a nice headband) but the material in the earpads is not as dense as that in the 1000XM2 and so it misses out on some of the passive noise cancelling there. The settings for the Active Noise Cancelling are On, Artificial Intelligence Noise Cancellation (AINC), and off. Switching between on and off is a simple 2 second press of the ANC button. To start up the AINC you have to hold down the button for a few more seconds. The AINC is supposed to take care of selecting the right amount of NC for the setting it detects with its microphones. The higher end Sonys have a similar setting but there are also a TON of other options in the app that really let you dial in the perfect amount of noise cancelling (to the point that you can wear them with no music on and have a VERY quiet environment), you can not do that with these. In both the On and AINC, it seems to be pulling voices a little too much, which is fine and good if you want to be able to still hear people ask you something or to just be aware of what's going on around you. If your GOAL is to shut people out (as it is mine), the 700Ns don't do it. They will actually pick out voices and amplify them to ensure you hear them. My wife thinks that this is the way they all should work, but I respectfully disagree.
I did sit outside of a rather busy outlet mall next to a major interstate to see how they would handle the drone of the cars going by. Here the 700Ns did a very good job of blocking the drone of engines and tires so I'm sure these would do well with the sounds on an airplane or train but again, when people walked by my bench these headphones picked them up a little too much.
As for the quality of the headphones for calls, they sound great and my wife said that I sounded clearer than I do when I'm just holding the handset to my face. It is also really easy to invoke Siri (or Google Assistant) with just a long press of the play button on the headphones. I don't really like using Siri so I will not be using that feature much but it works well if you do want that feature.
I will make one caveat to this whole review. A lot of what holds these headphones back is firmware/software. There is a strong possibility that Sony could update one or both to give more options through the app or through the controls on the headphones themselves. Speaking of which, the controls are all really easy to use without looking and make a lot of sense (unlike some of the touch controls on some other headphones). If Sony does upgrade the software/firmware, these could easily be 5-star headphones but as it stands right now, I would have to give them 4. If you are looking for that extra star and the solitude that the Sony 1000XM2s provide, I would recommend you drop the extra cash and pick up a pair of those, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a pair of noise cancelling headphones with straightforward controls, great sound, and very good noise cancelling, feel free to get these because they are great and will save you a not insignificant amount of money. Plus the 700Ns come in some sweet colors; I love the blue on these.
Like I said at the start of this review, Sony has never let me down in the audio department, and while these may not be 5-star NC headphones, they are still what I would expect for their price point. Actually they are better than what I would expect but it is hard standing in the shadow of the 1000XM2s!

Sony has always turned out top notch audio gear. From headphones to components, Sony turns out great gear (in fact, their latest go at noise cancelling headphones the WH-1000XM2 are THE best NC headphones out there) and the SRS-XB31 is no exception. Sound-wise this thing turns out a great sound with an impressive amount of bass for something as small as it is (perhaps a little too much bass). That being said, the XB31 is supposed to amp up your party with a light show that gets at tad annoying straight out of the box. If bass heavy tunes that will literally rattle your desk and seizure inducing strobe lights are your thing, then this is a 5 star product with no qualifications. If, perhaps, you prefer your music to be a bit more pure sounding and don't want an 80's disco in your home, it would only be a 3.5. Where Sony clinches a 5 star rating is with the Music Center app. You don't like the strobes, turn them off. Want to change up the equalizer to dial back the bass a smidge, you can do that. Want to play with a ton of other lighting, power, and connection settings you have it all at the touch of a finger.
On top of that you get an IP67 dust/waterproof rating which means this thing is dust proof and can be submerged for 30 minutes in water with no problem. The fabric cover is really nice and the fit and finish is superb (no seams or stray fibers). This is a solid bluetooth speaker with an impressive 24 hour battery that even has a port that can charge your cell phone at 1 amp. I couldn't find out the mAh rating for the battery in the spec so I don't know how much it can charge a phone.
If you are looking for a great sounding, looking, and tough bluetooth speaker, don't look any further, just be sure to download the Music Center App, the increased functionality is a must. Sony has turned out another winner!

Outstanding Power/Value Option For Most People

There are a lot of reviews that hit a whole bunch of different topics and features about this computer. From the ones I've read, I haven't seen much on the actual day-to-day operation of this computer and I think that is important.
Let me start off by giving a quick rundown of how it is used in my office. I work for a moderately sized non-profit and while we have a nice endowment and take in a lot of donation, we like that to go to those we serve. Also, while we have about 50 employees, most of us wear many different hats. I was originally a teacher and so I am in charge of the education portion, but I also have a flair for design and I know how to code a webpage so in addition to being the education lead, I am also half of the design team and half of the IT department. I do everything from writing lessons, to building websites, to creating brochures/programs/flyers/banners. I use everything from MS Office to the entire Adobe Creative Suite. Right now I have two computers at work, one PC and one Mac. The Mac is 5 years old and showing its age, the PC is brand new and is set up to really be my IT computer (screens are vertical for code and web layout). We needed a better graphics computer and I needed a computer that our interns could also work, since this will also act as their workstation. Surprisingly, none (and I mean zero) of our interns over the last three years knows or likes Macs so I decided to go with this computer because it looked like a good cross between power and value and I have heard great things about the new Optane memory.
Ok, now that you have the background I'll give you the quick down and dirty review. I set this up at home so I didn't waste time in the office and I could run some A/B testing between this HP and my top of the line iMac at home that has a 512GB solid state drive, 4k retina screen, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and 6th generation quad core i7 running at 3.3GHz. This is my personal home computer and I do quite a bit of work at home but I'm trying to shift more of that to the office.
Anyway. I have attached to videos to this review so you can see how these two computers do starting up both from a cold start and using Adobe InDesign (actually I was unable to do so, I'll keep trying though). In both instances, the HP was ready to go faster than my Mac. That Optane memory is doing exactly what is was intended to do, and that is give you the flexibility and low price point of a traditional hard drive while getting the speed of a solid state drive. In this case you are actually getting better speed than a solid state drive. Running the entire Adobe Creative Suite on both computers reveals that in almost every instance, the HP outperforms my iMac with the exception of some graphics crunching in Illustrator (I'm thinking that is where the Intel Iris Pro graphics with some dedicated memory is helping). Also, when using Lightroom, the 4k retina screen is a lot nicer for pixel-peeping some of the details. The HP only has a standard HD screen and while it is not bad, it can't hold a candle to the 4k. That being said, this iMac cost a whole bunch more than the HP.
I only have one other gripe about the HP over the iMac. I would gladly give up the touch screen (never understood touchscreens on desktop computers, 2-in-1 laptops sure, but not desktops) in exchange for a higher resolution screen. The other issue with the touch screen is that it is set back a bit from the glass and it makes the entire screen super reflective. I've read a few reviews here and I notice other have mentioned how much you really need to consider the placement of this computer and light sources if you don't want to basically be looking at a mirror. I have a face for radio so I certainly don't want that! That being said, when bright/colorful screens are up, which this screen does very well, the reflectivity is not really an issue. Also, the base is incredibly stable and the touchscreen is very responsive so you don't have to poke the screen too hard to get it to do what you want. I'm sure the interns are going to love that but the fingerprints are really going to bug me.
Finally, we also do a TON of teleconferencing with other non-profits and schools around the nation and sometime the world. The camera/mic setup is very nice and I appreciate the security switch that blocks the camera at the top. The easy access to the SD card, headphone, and another USB drive at the bottom of the screen is really helpful as is the HDMI in button on the bottom right of the screen which makes it easy for us to link in other devices.
All-in-all I am extremely pleased with the power/productivity of this HP Pavilion and our CFO is going to be happy that I didn't have to break the bank to make it happen! I'm going to recommend that we purchase a few more of these for a few other departments around the foundation. HP has built a nice, attractive, and reasonably powerful computer that would serve any family, student, or office admirably in a lot of different situations. I'm a power user and am pretty pleased with it, I'm pretty sure you will be too.

Great Wireless Earbuds, AirPod Slayer For Many!

I stayed away from wireless earbuds for quite some time. All of the ones I had tried previously had horrible battery life, dropped the signal all the time, were way too obtrusive in my ears, and worst of all they usually sounded pretty bad. The first pair of wireless earbuds I kept and loved were the Apple AirPods and I still think they are a great choice for many people, but they do have some serious issues for some folks. They don't block out any outside noise, are not IP rated (so can't be counted on to keep out dust and moisture), and can easily fall out of your ears if you are doing anything other than sitting or walking casually. They have some pretty great benefits as well with great connectivity to Apple devices, very good sound quality, great battery life, multiple charges from the storage case, and they are small and compact. The great thing about the Jabra Elite 65t earbuds is that they match or surpass most of the best qualities of AirPods and solve all of the problems I mentioned.
Let's break this down shall we?
Looks: While I appreciate the Apple aesthetic, many people have commented that they thought the AirPods looked weird. Perhaps because they don't look like 'normal' earbuds or because they are so jarringly white. The Elite 65t looks sharp and professional. The black and gunmetal gray are unobtrusive and since they hug your ear rather closely, some people may even miss that you are wearing them. Big win goes to the Elites.
Sound Signature: Here I would call it a tie. I enjoy the sound from the AirPods and I think the sound is phenomenal from the Elites. While some people such as myself like the fact that the Jabra Elite app allows for fine tuning the equalizer settings, most won't care about this or even know that they can do this. I'm going to give the Elites the win on this one too, mostly because of the sound options not necessarily over quality of the sound signature.
Isolation: This is an easy victory for the Elites. AirPods have virtually none unless you have REALLY small ears and have them jammed in there. The Jabra Elite has traditional earbud tips that come in three different sizes and provide a nice seal that passively blocks a lot of noise. This lets you enjoy your music a bit more and you can listen to it at a lower volume since it isn't competing with other noise. The good thing about the different size tips is that you can mix and match with them. I have a small tip on the right earbud and a medium on the left since my ear canals are different sizes. That being said, many people don't like earbuds with tips that go into your ear canal because they find them uncomfortable, I am usually one of those people (which is one of the reasons I like the AirPods) but these tips seem to be soft enough and well sized and I haven't had any problems so far. You get a good enough seal without having to really cram them in your ears so that is a nice plus.
Active Use: Another win for the Elites. Apple AirPods stay in my ears better than I thought they would but I have had them fall out many times while doing yard work, exercise, and sometimes just walking around. The fit of the Elites is snug enough that this is not a problem. I have yet to have them come out even when cranking hard on an elliptical machine (which is probably the most jarring of the activities I do on a regular basis). Also, the Jabra Elites are IP55 rated that gives them considerable dust and moisture resistance. Now I wouldn't wear these in a dust storm and you sure a heck can't submerge them but they can take the elements far better than AirPods. If you have always wondered about IP ratings I have attached a handy little graphic that breaks it down for you. The Sport version of these are IP56 so they are a bit more moisture resistant.
Charging Case: This one goes to Apple. The AirPod case is smaller, holds more of a charge (24 hours), and therefore can recharge the earbuds through more cycles. That being said, they Jabra case is much smaller than I expected and has one really good feature and that is the snap lock. The magnetic latch on the AirPods sometimes doesn't keep the headphones tightly set and I've had several times where one of the AirPods doesn't charge while the other one does. The lid on the Jabra Elite case holds the earbuds down on their charging connectors consistently and well so this is not a worry. While the Jabra case may not hold as much juice, what it does have is going to reliably charge your Elites.
Call Quality: This one is a tie. My wife says that I sound better through both the AirPods and Elites than I do just talking though my phone normally. The sound isolation on the Elites though makes it easier to make out softer talking from those calling you.
Bluetooth Connectivity: Again, a tie. Both have solid connections to my iPhone and other devices and I have yet to have a dropped signal from either. The AirPods seamlessly hook up to all of my Apple devices without any work from me but the pairing with the Jabra Elite is easy as well (it's just not 'magical' like the AirPod sync). The Jabra Elites are on the new Bluetooth 5 spec but I have yet to determine a difference between it and the version 4 on the AirPods but perhaps as more devices support it (my phone does not), it may be more of an issue.
Controls: This one is a win for Apple. This is only because there is one glaring problem with the Jabras and that is that they aren't gesture control or just touches but are actual button presses. The buttons can sometime be hard to actuate and have the unfortunate side-effect of forcing the earbud into my ear. For someone who really does not like that sensation, it can be a problem. That being said there are a lot more controls that are available through the button presses than are available for the AirPods. Also, I have an Apple Watch and control my AirPods with it, so that has always been really seamless for me so I have to give this one to Apple. This would be different if Jabra would change from actual button presses to taps. I would be ok with the loss of some control features to not have to push the Elites into my ears to get a good actuation.
Overall: The Jabra Elite 65t is probably they best wireless earbud out there now and it is going to take a lot for anyone to push them off the top of that hill. Across the board they either meet or exceed the quality of Apple AirPods and absolutely destroy any other wireless earbuds that I've tried. These are an outstanding choice for anyone and I highly recommend them. I think it would almost be impossible to be disappointed in them. I don't say that about many things.

Fun, Cool, And Easy To Use

I knew this printer was small but I was really surprised at just how small it is. The Sprocket Plus is like 3.5 x 5.5 x .75 inches so that means that is is smaller than a stack of 4 x 6 pictures!
OK, so it is small but how does it work? It was incredibly easy to set up. I popped the cover off the top and inserted the pack of ten zink photo sheets, put the cover on and turned it on. After launching the Sprocket app on my phone, I was up and printing within about 1 minute. So portability and ease of use have been nailed by HP (oh and nice design too, I have the white and rose gold versions which is very nice).
Now the REAL question is 'How good are the prints?'. If you are expecting gallery quality prints, heck if you are expecting full size inkjet quality prints, you will be disappointed. If you keep your expectations to the level of Polaroid instant prints, you will be happy with them. Colors and black and white both do well but it is very easy for a bright picture to appear washed out. Look, this is not a device for printing out a stack of pictures from your vacation in Europe. This is designed to get some of those cool selfie/ussies off your phone and into the hands of friends. Since the photo paper also doubles as a sticker when you peel the backing off, they are great for decorating at a party, in a scrapbook, or whatever.
This is a great device to have at a party of any sort where you want your friends and guests to perhaps have a little memento of the fun they had but don't want to shell out for a full Photo Booth set-up. It would be great for a kid's b-day party or a school club function. The printer is pretty fast and can crank out each print in under 30 seconds so it would be easy to have everyone send you their best shots as they take them and send them off to the printer as you get them. In an age where genuine photos are becoming a rarity, sometimes it is cool to just have that small little picture that you can post at your desk, or your locker of a fun time that you would like to remember without having to whip out your phone and scroll through your photostream.
If this is the kind of device you are looking for, I would actually give it an enthusiastic 5-stars for you but I hedged my bet and went with 4-stars just because, while it does that one thing well, that is about it and there will inevitably be something you wish it could do but can't. I would have done maybe 4.5 stars but that is not an option.

B&W Under-Promised and Over-Delivered with the PX!

I found it amusing when reading some of the early promotional material for the Bowers & Wilkins PX headphones, when B&W pretty much stated that they didn't have the best noise-cancelling software but they would deliver on the audio front. Having owned other Bowers and Wilkins headphones, I knew I would be getting a beautifully engineered piece of audio equipment that would sound phenomenal. I kind of expected them to try to boast that they were better than the current champs in this market (Bose and Sony), but by setting my expectations lower for the noise cancelling I think they were banking on the surprise factor because I definitely was surprised. Jaw-droppingly so.
Pulling the PX headphones out of the box was a really nice experience and even though I had been thinking that I should have gotten the black version, I have changed my mind and really dig the soft gold and blue. They are incredibly sharp and the quilted storage bag with magnetic clasp and integrated cable storage just ices the cake. This is a quality piece of hardware and absolutely screams class.
I wondered if the noise-cancelling software would screw with the sound quality that I knew and loved from my previous B&W headphones, but I think they were smart to do a bit lighter of a touch on the software and to boost the passive noise cancelling in its place. Not only does the music not sound 'processed' but I'm also not getting the pressure on my eardrum the way I do with Bose headphones which makes them unusable for me for any length of time over 30 minutes. It is interesting but as far as I can tell, the NC software is only on, you just have a choice of whether you have the 'Environmental Filter' on or off. These filters are set through the rather nice and simple app that B&W has and the different settings of Office, City, and Flight all give differing levels of sound through. I like total silence so I have it on flight but you can set it to anywhere within a range via a slider, the three choices are just presets to use. When I had these on last night and was testing them with my wife watching TV next to me on the couch and me trying to read, I could not hear anything past my music. I had my wife talk to me and I actually had to pull up an ear cup just to make sure she wasn't playing with me and mouthing like she was talking but she really was. Now with the music off, I could faintly hear her and the TV but listening to the headphones at a normal level put me in isolated bliss.
The key would seem to be to earpads on the PX. Not only are they covered with a very nice leather material, but the padding is perfectly balanced between comfortable to wear but stiff enough to create a seal. Looking at the earpads I was afraid that the openings would be too small for my ears but they fit perfectly over (not on) my ears and place the tilted drivers right in the sweet spot. I have perhaps slightly larger than normal ears since I have kind of an elongated head and proportionate ears. Speaking of elongated head, it also comes to a bit of a point and so I am sensitive to the padding placed on the headbands of various headphones and so far, the PX have been nothing but comfortable. My longest stint with them so far has been about two hours and neither my ears nor my head has had any complaint. I will say that if you wear glasses (I don't) you probably will not get as good of a passive noise seal and the pressure from the pads may press a bit on the arms of your glasses.
As for the controls on the Bowers & Wilkins PX, they have decided to forgo the touch controls that are all the rage now and stick with tried and true buttons. I think that this is a perfectly valid choice and considering that other manufacturers are still working the kinks out of their touch controls, it was probably a pretty smart move on the part of B&W.
As for the sound quality of the PX headphones, I have zero complaints. They have a pretty neutral sound to them and don't seem to accentuate any particular range. The bass is there enough to make rock sound good and the midrange and treble are nice enough to make pop and jazz sound great.
I only have one complaint for these headphones. I was kind of surprised that the armatures for the earpads aren't completely round and sealed. They are in fact, concave channels that the audio cable runs down. While they are still very solid and the cable well protected, when I first saw these, I thought that those were solid metal. Not particularly sure if there is some engineering reason for this or if it were to cut back on weight since these are not delicate flowers but I just thought it strange. As for its actual performance, I got no problems with the PX and I see a long and beautiful relationship in our future which will fortunately help me keep a long and beautiful relationship with my wife!
Bowers and Wilkins has a winner in the PX and they really should not sell themselves short in any facet of their performance. They are worth every penny and can stand toe to toe with the others at the top of the heap.

A Whole New World For Chromebooks!

I was an early adopter for Chromebooks when they first launch years ago and while I definitely saw a place for them in the computer eco-system I was always disappointed with many of the early iterations. They were always just a bit too underpowered and the software just a bit too basic. It didn't help that they were often packaged in throw-away bodies with typically poor screens, but hey, what do you expect for a computer that often times cost less than $200?
When Chromebooks started making headways into the classroom I finally said 'Yep, that's where they belong.' As a teacher, they were the perfect devices to kit out a classroom, promote collaborative work through Google Docs, and didn't break the bank (for the initial purchase, maintenance or replacement). I thought that would be the future for Google and Chromebooks. I was surprised when Google started working with companies like Asus and Samsung to start branching into higher-end Chromebooks. I really didn't think they were going to make a lot of headway when they were not really able to stand up to their price-point competition in the regular PC market.
Where Google made the right decision was to expand the Chrome software to encompass the Android marketplace and to take a cue from Apple and lately Microsoft to build their own hardware around their platform. Now we have a powerful, stable, useful, and quite frankly beautiful device. Is it expensive for a Chromebook, sure if you are comparing it to all the previous iterations. Is it too expensive for what this device will be able to do in very short order, if not already, the answer for that is a qualified no.
For what I use a typical laptop for, the Chromebook Pixel is more than capable to handle everything I throw at it. It is fast, there is a large array of software that I can use to include MS Office (sorry, Google Docs can be great but there are still a lot of missing features that a power user like me uses on a frequent basis), Lightroom!, Slack, Skype, and a ton of other things. I think this ecosystem is going to explode in short order and with the exception of many of the more intensive Adobe products, I don't think there will be much that this new generation of Chromebooks can't do (and I stopped using InDesign and Illustrator on my other laptop because I need a heck of a lot more screen landscape for those programs).
Where I see this really fitting in for me is as a 'show and tell' device. The fact that it is powerful, compact, easy to use, lightweight, and can switch to multiple different modes, makes this the device that I can have with me out and about making presentations to students and teachers, at conferences, and when traveling. Can I do that with other devices for less money, sure but the build quality of the Chromebook Pixel is really top notch. The screen is beautiful (if a tad strange with the 3:2 ratio, but that is only because I'm more used to other layouts), the body of this is solid, the keyboard and trackpad are a joy to use, and while I was initially kind of turned off by the soft wrist-rest area, it has really grown on me and now I kind of want it on my other laptop.
We have entered a new era of laptop (and perhaps soon, desktop) computing. Chromebooks in the past had a niche that they filled nicely but was not really in the mainstream for many if not most people. Now with the Pixel, we have a device that may very soon be on par with the offerings in the Windows/MacOS realm. I'm kind of excited by this because I think it is going to help push the entire market into new places.
While I agree with what many reviews online said about the Chromebook Pixel about the fact that perhaps the pen should have been included with the device, I really don't know if I'm going to need it. My other laptop has an integrated Wacom pen and I have probably only popped it out twice. I will also say that I have not tried this out with a lot of accessories (monitors, projectors, printers) so I can't speak to that. When I get it out into the field some more I will give an update to this review.
Bottom line, don't think of this like you have previous Chromebook offerings, think of it as a soon to be equal to the likes of other ultrabooks and make your decision based on that. I think you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

If this were a 'NEW' device I would perhaps write a lengthy review but instead it is the fusion/upgrade of a product that has been around for a few years. My best friend received the original Echo back when it first launched and it was pretty sweet though something I didn't really feel the need to own especially since I didn't think it was THAT great of a speaker. I have several Bluetooth speakers but I am always looking for the next and best. With the Ultimate Ears MEGABLAST I feel like I have found that speaker.
The UE MEGABLAST (you just have to put that in all caps), is an outstanding Bluetooth speaker. It is by far, the clearest and probably loudest speaker I have every owned (minus my old component system back in the day). Add to that the Alexa functionality and it makes this a no-brainer. I do a lot of cooking and my wife likes to bake so to now have a speaker that we can command with our voices and can fill the entire lower floor of our house with great music, is a wonderful thing. I probably won't be using all of the features of Alexa but I have already enjoyed checking the local traffic and weather in the mornings before heading out to work.
I'm betting I will also never have the opportunity to fully test out the waterproofing since I plan to keep this inside most of the time and I don't have a pool, but since it is in the kitchen I at least don't have to worry about it getting splashed.
Set-up was a breeze. I didn't even do it the right way and was still up and running in less than 5 minutes. I plugged in the MEGABOOM and paired it with my iPhone and the phone prompted me to download the Ultimate Ears app, once that was downloaded it did a quick 30 sec firmware update and I was ready to sign into my Amazon account. 20 seconds later I had the speaker jamming out some Def Leppard and I was good.
I HIGHLY recommend the Power Up base accessory since it makes it a lot easier to keep this thing charged since you just have to leave or drop it on the dock. The white base is nice and I actually didn't even have to use the 'brick' that the MEGABLAST came with, I just have the USB cord going into a power port built into my plug outlet. No muss and no fuss. When I want to take it outside or to the beach I can just grab it and go and know that it is charged up. UE says that you can get 16 hours on a charge and I have yet to test that out but it has gone strong for over 7 so far.
If you have been thinking about getting an Alexa capable device and have been holding off, don't. Ultimate Ears has created a top notch Bluetooth speaker that deserves to be bought just for that but then ices the cake by adding Amazon Alexa functionality.

5 out of 5No-Brainer If You Want A Great All-In-One System

I wondered about creating a GPS system nowadays with so many people having their smartphones with their own GPS functionality or with most cars coming with some kind of infotainment system, but after using the OverDryve 7 for the last two weeks, I think it is a great system and is a no-brainer for anyone looking to add GPS functionality to their car.
First off, my favorite thing about this device is the mounting bracket. I kid you not. One of the things I always hated about car GPS systems was having to lock it in place and reconnect the power and such. In the process of doing that I would invariably mess with my carefully set up positioning and would have to do it all over again. The Overdryve has an awesome bracket that you keep set up in your car and plugged in to everything and the Overdryve unit itself links via magnets and the connections are made through little contacts on the back. Easy-peasy. On top of that, the basestation also has an additional GPS antenna to improve location accuracy. Now I have rarely had problems with previous GPS devices and but the additional antenna could probably help when you are in the 'canyons' of the city, though I haven't gone downtown to try it yet.
The GPS system is great. While my car has one built in, it acts a bit too much like my mother and won't let me input anything if I am not at a complete stop. My wife can't even do it from the passenger seat because if we are moving at all it completely locks out the GPS controls. I understand why, but it would be nice for some kind of override. With the Overdryve, we don't have to worry about that. She just plucks the device from the mount, types in the destination and clicks it back into place. The guidance voice is kind of grating but so is my wife yelling directions at me from her phone!
I played around with the handsfree and entertainment applications and they are fine, but my car handles that pretty seamlessly, so I don't think I will be using that function of the Overdryve. The voice commands are much more responsive than those for my car system so I will give it that. The other thing I don't have to worry about is the backup camera or tire pressure monitor, because my car already has that, but if your car doesn't, this is a really cool feature. While each of those systems is an add-on, they are both only about $150 each and I guarantee I paid more for that functionality from the auto maker.
As for the Overdryve also being an Android tablet, and can be used off the mount like any other tablet, it is true that it can do so, but it is a little bulky for that and it is an Android tablet with all that entails. Sorry, I have an iPad and I can't really see myself ever using this as just a regular tablet, but perhaps if you forgot yours and you have a fussy kid in the back and want to send it to the back seat to quiet them down, this could be a lifesaver.
Now for my few quibbles with the device. I had a little trouble syncing it to my phone for the first few tries but after I did a phone restart I didn't have a problem and it had maintained the sync no problem, so it could have been my phone and not the Overdryve. My only other problem is the name. Seriously, Overdryve?! I realize that Overdrive was probably taken but I kind of feel like some hipster should be on TV telling me how 'swaggy' this thing is. Every time I have had to type Overdryve into this review, I have had to roll my eyes and they are getting tired.
In summary, if you want a great functioning GPS system, and that is all, this is a phenomenal GPS and it costs about the same as other 7-inch GPS systems. If you need the functionality of an infotainment system, and want the ability to add safety features like a back-up camera and tire pressure monitoring, this is a no-brainer because you get all of that for the price of a basic 7" GPS. On top of all that, you get a fully functional Android tablet! I really can't see why anyone would buy any other standalone car GPS system now that this is out. Even if you don't need the other functions, they are nice to have and Rand McNally has created the best GPS device I have ever used, for the same price as other systems. Seriously, this is the unit to get.

Does this machine clean up both hard and soft puppy poops? We are elderly and have three Chihuahuas & a Chiweenie. Two dogs are elderly and have been pad trained because we do not have a fenced yard & area predator threats. The pups likely too.
I would not use this for either. This is for dirt, mud, dust, hair, litter, and small food bits. If it were a liquid mess (vomit/diarrhea) it might do OK, but nothing bigger or more substantial than that.

No. There really isn't any need for them since there isn't a wand/hose to use elsewhere. It does have the charging/drying base as well as an extra mopping roller head.

Sort of. From what I understand from Microsoft, the only games you can have on an External USB drive are for the Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One. I think you can also have whatever photo/video files on it as well. Series X games have to go on the internal drive or on the new Seagate expansion drive to support the speed required.

Are the rechargeable batteries replaceable by the end user? Batteries dont last forever, it would be a shame(and waste of money) to have to trash a 150$ headset because you cant swap a battery.
Not without busting them open. Yes, that it a big problem with a lot of devices nowadays. There might be a place where you can have someone open them up, but having the battery available is probably not going to happen. When these no longer hold a charge, they are going to need to be replaced. Wish it wasn't so.

Is the headset able to be adjusted via the app while connected to the xbox or do you have to adjust it separately?
I can change the settings through the app on my phone while playing. The app connects through bluetooth so I don't think they interfere with each other.

Does this fully support Dolby Atmos on Xbox one and Xbox Series x, through the Dolby Atmos App and and games that support Atmos?
I don't think so. When I set them up on my Xbox One X, the setting for these to work is Windows Sonic for Headphones. I have a Dolby Atmos license for another set but I can't select it with these because it says my license does not support these headphones. That being said, they sound great using Windows Sonic. Anything with a simple 3.5 mm (headphone style plug) would work, though the built in 2W speakers are pretty good for a small space. The projector can even power the speakers if they can be powered via USB.
