After your 20-30th mission, gets old quick

I bought this game thinking that the good reviews and feedback were true. After playing this game for a good 5 hours, I lost so much interest and motivation to pick up the game and place it in my 360. After awhile, saving hostages, destroying things, raids, etc. become way too redundant. Almost any difficulty level is not difficult enough. There will be times where you accidentally kill your own guerrilla teammates and you won't care because character development and storyline is NOT a part of this game. You almost mindlessly go and do missions and the only seeming payback is the chance to upgrade your weapons. Aside from that, a mindless game filled with destruction destruction destruction. There's more to a game than just graphics and explosions (at least in my opinion). This is a rental. I had great expectations for this game, but it didn't live well to the hype.
What's great about it: You can destroy almost anything by any means necessary
What's not so great: Redundant missions. Futuristic GTA feel to the game. Story is pathetic. Character development is non-existent.Repetitive

Graphics are incredible. Clunky controls
on March 16, 2009

I have to admit, everything about this game is superb EXCEPT - the controls when it comes to combat. The menu system (both real time and between chapters) is rather clunky. This is not a run-and-gun type of game. Each time you aim your gun, you stand stationary. You can't even jump back when a foe jumps right in front of you, you either have to pray that you have a properly loaded weapon in hand or turn 180-degrees then run then turn another 180-degrees and then fire. This game was truly meant to be played with a human controlling Sheva (or Chris) or vice versa. The game is very entertaining and amazingly short yet you'll see the "Your Partner Got Killed" or "You Got Killed" many many times. It has become more of a trial and error type of game near the end. It is quite an awesome game and the only cons for this game it the clunky controls that were taken from Resident Evil 4. Even when you are running away from zombies, you have to STOP just to reload your weapon. Real time menu makes it even harder. You can't just select menu to get healed because zombies will just hack away at you while you're busy swapping with your partner for an herb to get healed. Overall, great game. Controls are a huge bummer in this game.
What's great about it: Graphics are amazing. Action is can be redundant, yet really fun
What's not so great: Combat. When playing rogue campaign - your A.I. partner gets killed or uses up herbs/ammo too quickly

Big disappointment

I can't believe how much hype the new Street Fighter IV has been getting. After getting my thrills from Soulcalibur IV, MK vs DC, and Virtua Fighter, playing the new Street Fighter IV was like going BACKWARDS in video game evolution! My little cousins who I tried to get to play with me were wondering if I pulled out the old Super Nintendo to play this game and I had to convince them that this was a "brand new game for the Xbox 360". The combo and ultra systems are very confusing. Even using old favorites such as Ken and Ryu was just disappointing. For a 2D game, it's okay overall. But this is the 21st century and video game fighters have evolved a LOT since the 90s. Even Mortal Kombat has stepped it up a notch (even though their main lure was the gore which was incredibly toned down with their latest release). I wanted to return my SFIV game after trying to tolerate learning it for a few days. I've had it. This game made my Mortal Kombat vs DC game look like the game of the year. If you're a die hard Street Fighter fan, this game is for you. But a game that hangs on to mainly combos and counters? No finishers? Annoying announcer voice? A one word description of all this is: DISAPPOINTING.
What's great about it: Reminds me of the graphics of 15+ years ago when I was a little kid
What's not so great: Compared to current 3D fighters, this is definitely a step back. Graphics are not as beautiful as the reviews state

A slight improvement over FEAR 1, very slight
on February 11, 2009

I was hoping that F.E.A.R. 2 would shed some light on more answers to Alma and everything else, but like the Ring movies, you're left with more answers. Aside from your teammates uttering tidbits here and there to build somewhat of a storyline, your left to walk through hallways, corridors, rooms..... pretty much a modern day dungeons game. The shooting mechanics are very similar to Call of Duty, and every now and then, you'll get a surprise scare, but it's lacking the true spookiness and chill that F.E.A.R. 1 had. You would think that a game named "FEAR" would make this game quite filled with.... fear. It doesn't even come close to the Condemned, Silent HIll or Resident Evil series in regards to scares and fear. It's a decent shooter, but I was quite disappointed hoping that a little more of that magic from F.E.A.R. 1 would rub off on this game. Unfortunately, this sequel game doesn't match up to the first game.
What's great about it: Shooter mechanics are very similar to Call of Duty series, slo-mo can be fun at times
What's not so great: You mainly trudge through a ton of corridors, rooms and hallways

This game was not as bad as I thought
on January 18, 2009

After hearing all the bummed out Mortal Kombat fans saying how bad this game I was, I decided to try it out myself before agreeing with the majority. This game is actually good! Granted, it's not up there in regards to modern day 3D fighters, but it's still fun. The good: DC characters here are interesting enough that it lures people into buying this game like Yoda and Vader did for Soulcalibur IV. Granted, the pairing up or DC Universe along with Mortal Kombat's universe is sorta sketchy, but it sells. The same elements previous Mortal Kombat games had are in this game: poor (and I mean POOR) storyline. Combos, aerial combos and interactive environments. The bad: if you've played previous Mortal Kombat games, you'll notice that even with the DC Universe lineup, the overall lineup is quite small. Overall, this game is fun despite the rated T rating.
What's great about it: DC characters give this game it's hook towards consumers like Star Wars did for Soulcalibur IV
What's not so great: Toned down gore, fatalities are quite frankly ----- bland. Overly toned down.

Mindless entertainment presented in beautiful BD
on January 13, 2009

If you're up for a deal on some mindless action and entertainment, this AVP package is for you. Granted, it is what it is, mindless entertainment --- but the bottom line is it's entertaining despite the poor acting, storyline and plot. The timeline throws everything off because the Alien movies were all based in the future and apparently the Aliens were discovered accidentally in the future. These movies are set in the present. Totally off and contradicting timelines. Oh well, entertaining nonetheless.
What's great about it: Lots of great mindless action and entertainment
What's not so great: Poor writing, no real cut-out winner between the Aliens and Predators, bad acting and storyline

Very bland and simple game
on January 4, 2009

For a game that has been given so many good reviews, I was tempted to buy Prince of Persia despite the Rate T rating. Ubisoft has released games that have either been hit or miss. Assassin's Creed was one of the last decent games Ubisoft released. In Prince of Persia, the same premise in Assassin's Creed iin regards to Spiderman-like acrobatics and agility is in this game as well. The battles sequences can be either pleasing or incredibly boring. Your counterpart, Elika, becomes your savior because she practically makes it impossible to die in fights or die when not making a specific agility move at an obstacle. The motivation to make specific landmarks on the world map fertile again was not great. There's something missing in this game and the storyline is confusing as well. I believe this game is worth less than $49.99 that Best Buy is offering it at. I don't normally get this judgmental over games, but this game was truly a disappointment.
What's great about it: Graphics are semi-cartoonish, semi-pleasing
What's not so great: Main character is annoying and not funny at all, Elika makes it nearly impossible to lose your life in this game

It's just Infinite Undiscovery in a Rated M format
on December 22, 2008
Posted by: vespa55
from Hercules, CA
If I wanted to pay $59.99 to read/watch something on my TV for hours, I would've just bought a movie instead. Square Enix practically took Infinite Undiscovery and took the same story premise and plugged it in this game, but instead of Lunar Glyphs, we're dealing with "Remnants" instead. And the main premise is so similar that even the character voices and graphics are the same! In Infinite Discovery - it was Capell, in this game it's the same graphics and voiceovers but this time the character's name is Rush. In Infinite Undiscovery - Lunar Glyphs (special powers) are bad, in the Last Remnant, same thing, Remnants (special powers) are bad. There are glitches in the graphics and the battle sequences are terrible. You can setup a set of commands for your so-called "unions" and once again, you're just WATCHING what happens. The choices you need to make on your end are not even challenging, basic yes or no questions. If you have a knack for reading and watching a LOT of cutscenes, this game is for you. Some RPGs have an equal amount of storytelling as well as gameplay, but you're literally just fighting ridiculous "union-based" battles just to get to the next 10 minute cutscene just to hear/watch another snippet of the storyline. What a bust. Square Enix used to be on top of their game in regards to making decent RPGs. This is just another bust.
What's great about it: Interesting graphics and gameplay
What's not so great: You're literally READING/WATCHING the game, not much user involvement, battleplay is terrible

Fantastic image quality despite aspect changes
on December 19, 2008
Posted by: vespa55
from Hercules, CA
First of all, if you enjoyed The Dark Knight in theaters, this Blu-Ray version of the movie will definitely disappoint (this is all pending a nice 1080p HDTV and BD player - all which is needed for a fantastic experience). The detail and presentation of the movie is so crisp and sharp, I would say that it was a good transfer translation from film to Blu-Ray disc. The one GRIPE I have of the Blu-Ray version of The Dark Knight is this: the aspect ratio CHANGES from letterbox to full screen HD throughout the movie. It's probably the most talked about gripe of this Blu-Ray version I've ever read about. The regular DVD version of this movie has consistent aspect ratio while the Blu-Ray version "flip flops" from letterbox to full screen. It's annoying but not enough to make me not want to buy this for my home entertainment system. Definitely a must-have for Blu-Ray enthusiasts!
What's great about it: Presenation is crisp, very sharp, and a great way to boost the hype of Blu-Ray discs
What's not so great: Blu-Ray version of The Dark Knight has a changing aspect ratio. It flips from letterbox to full HD screen throughout!!!

Excellent shooter. Not nearly good as COD4 though

I was hesitant about buying COD World at War because COD4 was so excellent. I didn't understand the concept of going back to weaponry used over 60 years ago when the weaponry used in COD4 was so awesome. Nonetheless, the solo campaign mode for COD World at War is excellent. It DOES takes some time figuring out which person to be shooting. I couldn't tell if I was shooting a teammate or an enemy! There is even one instance where you're asked to blow up enemy tanks. The only problem is that the enemy tanks look so similar to the Allies' Sherman Tanks! Even though the weaponry is all outdated (gosh, COD4 was so awesome, but anyways) but still makes for a very pleasant shooter. The flamethrower is one of my favorites. Activision sure didn't skimp on the graphics and presentation as well. You're really in for a treat the second you insert the disc and play the game. Definitely a keeper (even though Call of Duty 4 is still the best in the COD series).
What's great about it: Presentation is excellent as always. Missions are interesting and surprise ambushes always catch you off guard
What's not so great: It takes some getting used figuring out which guys are the bad guys and which guys are on your side
