New workhorse for home color printing.

My Samsung C543dn finally had an issue with one of the developers and fixing the related issues was going to cost more than I paid for the printer. So time to look for a new one. I stopped buying inkjet years ago due to printhead issues, etc., and switched to color laser, which is more expensive up front. And the M553dn is very expensive up front, especially when buying with a full set of cartridges (especially when compared to my original cost for the Samsung printer on sale). However, after installing and using for several months, I will say it looks like it is worth the expense.
The HP M553 is a little larger than my previous printer, but is silent when idle and very quiet when printing. The print quality is excellent, but the speed (especially first page out after initial warm-up) is even more impressive. I have it sitting on the network at home and enjoy the duplexing (which is always a requirement feature for me). Even the duplex print speed is very good. I read numerous reviews on multiple printer manufactures before selecting and this new HP design seemed to be the best choice for me. So far, the printer has lived up to the excellent reviews have read.
The new toner design is suppose to have a notable effect on cost. First the power consumption specs are down, and I can say there are no light flickers when the machine warms up (as this did for the smaller Samsung printer). And the idle power level is also much lower, but again it has a super fast warm-up and first page print from idle. The toner cartridges are expensive (especially for home use), but the new toner design is suppose to produce more pages and reduce the per page cost (and if specs hold up should make this a lower cost printer over its life).
I picked up the M553 while it was on sale at Best Buy, and there was an HP special running on buying the toner with the printer (20% discount) so I picked up one of each. I decided to go with the lower toner capacity level, as the higher level was not as discounted, and for my use a full set of spare cartridges should last for a number of years.

Great family game

Most of the review are brief here (likely just longer than the 50 character min to qualify for the point bonus), but for this game you really don't need too many words. It plays very well and is a great game to play with the kids and extended family. My preference was for the PS4 version, but I needed this copy for a location that mainly had PS3s. The graphics are very good, even for the PS3. It takes some time to get use to the controller action (for those of use that aren't used to sports video games), but once you get the hang of it, there are plenty of options and play experience to many hours of enjoyment. I would recommend this game to others.

A happy edition to the library

I loved the first movie, and was happy to see they came out with a squeal. I was not disappointed with this sequel (as I have been with other squeals). The blu-ray edition has a beautiful video transfer, and although not an action/thriller, the audio track was most enjoyable and very full sounding. I am happy I purchased it and added it to the library next to the original. While younger children may not have much interest in the story-line, it is very watchable for most any age.

These were purchases as a gift, and were on sale at an attractive price. I cannot say that I would purchase them for myself, especially at normal price. However, the sound quality was very good, and the design is interesting. As a result, I would recommend them to a friend, but would not give them a 5 rating. For the active sports person, this is a good option to consider. For more everyday use, I would look at more traditional earbuds.

Good Black Friday purchase

I needed a replacement desktop unit for my mom. This one was actually a little higher in the specs than I could have gotten by with, but with the black Friday sale, I was able to get this unit at an excellent price. Overall the stats are very good for what I consider an entry level desktop. Set up was easy, and I ran it through all of the diagnostics and upgrades available (which actually took a couple of days to complete). I wanted to stay away from the Pentium and i3 chips, and with 8Gig ram and i5 chip, this unit has above average performance for its price level, especially considering the sale price.
I've had no setup issues, and the unit has been working fine. Lenovo has a very good build level overall. I would recommend this unit to others looking for a decent mid-level machine. Windows 10 works really well (even without a touch screen on a desktop).

I previous preferred the Lenovo Pro 2 (after having reviewed most of the laptops at this level), and was hoping the Pro 3 would be a stellar upgrade. Due mainly to the selection and a poor implementation of the iCore M chip, the Pro 3 was not the next step. Instead, when the Spectre x360 came out, it has impressive stats and a nice build feel. I have now purchased three different x360 models, and have been very happy with all of them. My fav was the i7 with the high res screen. On this one, I went with the i5 and lower res screen for its intended purpose, an older user (which the lower res 1920x1080 is better suited). Even with the standard HD screen (lower res), it is beautiful to look at and holds it own against other higher end laptops. With Windows 10, 8Gig ram works really. The SSD performs to average for the class, and steps above laptops with standard or even hybrid HDD. Overall the laptop is really well rounded, is on the upper end of the performance ratings, and is an excellent upgrade. These units have now been out for a while and you should be able to find a good sale. I highly recommend them (at least until the next models are released).

A classic for the entire family

I've been waiting to add the blu-ray edition of this movie to my collection for a long time. I finally found it on an excellent sale and snatched it up. The video and audio encoding are excellent, and above average for the format. The movie itself is a classic tale and has several "quotable" phrases that you need to see the movie to fully appreciate. I would highly recommend adding it to your movie library.

I was looking for a gaming set for a new build and almost picked up the Corsair setup before relooking at Logitech (I also looked at multiple other brands). Was about to pull the trigger on the Corsair LED keyboard on BestBuy Black Friday sale when I almost missed the entire Logitech gaming line was on sale. I relooked at the G910 keyboard and read reviews on all the LED keyboards. I wanted the more silent keys (which BB carried on the Corsair). As I was looking at the keyboard, I wanted to pair a mouse but didn't want to go overboard with buttons. The recently released G303 was a perfect match. The higher resolution sensor along with a solid build was very attractive. Since purchase, I've been very happy with the mouse and would recommend it on its own, even if not matched with the keyboard. I went to the store to test this and other mice, and found it more than acceptable. I also considered wireless, but for price/performance, and that the keyboard was also wired anyway, that this was still my best option.
I hear the software on Corsair is better, but I've been able to run several combos with the G303 and G910 to have different lighting sequences depending on normal use or game specific and generally gotten use to the Logitech software (a few software updates have made it slightly better).

Excellent gaming laptop that was on sale

Another one of my Black Friday pickups. I don't know if I would have paid full price for this laptop as I'm more inclined to do a gaming desktop. However, I needed a replacement for my oldest who's desktop was having issues and she was using laptops purchased from Goodwill. So the bar was set fairly low for her. I had looked at the previous model, and was not sold on price/performance.
But when this option came up on the Black Friday list, I relooked at this unit and the specs on this newest edition were more impressive (although still did not have an SSD). We've had no issues setting it up, and the performance has been as expected. Gaming is very acceptable, and basically preforms close to claims. The red keyboard back-lighting is interesting, and while I would not prefer it, my daughter is OK with it. The touchscreen works well with Windows 10. The audio doesn't touch my 5-piece powered system, but I would gauge it as one of the best I've heard from a laptop. Over time, I will breath new life into it later with an SSD upgrade. I think this unit (especially with a later SSD upgrade) should be usable for a long time. I would recommend this model to others in the market for a gaming laptop (and willing to pay some premium).

I added this classic movie to my library primarily due to the wife wanting it for the collection so our children (who are now college age) can see some of the 80's comedy. This is a great transfer with good video and decent audio for blu-ray standards. It took a while for them to release this format, so if you were looking for it before, it only came out on blu-ray this past year. Well worth adding to the movie library and I recommend both the quality of the transfer, and the movie itself.

Yes, it is plug and play. You can load a custom driver from Logitech to get more functionality, but the mouse if fully usable on the initial plug in.
