Absolutely Incredible Collection for the true Halloween fan. I don't know what else there is to be said about it. If you are a Halloween fan, this is made for you. A few of the movies may lack a little on extras, but the ones with extras are awesome. Biggest thing as a Halloween fan is the inclusion of the long-awaited release of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (Producer's Cut).
Made my Halloween season this year and will for many years to come!

Great Sequel

Sony usually doesn’t disappoint in this area, and this time is no different. The video quality of the Blu-ray is fantastic. It’s crisp, colourful and all around gorgeous. The sound mix is also spot on, really delivering the goods in terms of quality. This is the type of movie you want to experience, and the Blu-ray transfer is definitely the way to do that. Great job here Sony.
Speaking of a great job, this is how extras for blockbusters should be done. We can’t always be treated this kindly, but for those who love to get behind the scenes, then The Amazing Spider-Man 2 really brings it home for you on that front.
I’ll start with the best first:
The Wages of Heroism: Making The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – This feature is broken up into six parts (though you can always choose to Play All) and has a full runtime of 1 hour 45 minutes; which, needless to say, covers a lot of ground. When broken down, that ground is as follows:
Lessons Learned: Development and Direction – The first part runs at 19 minutes in length and talks about the characters in the film, things they learned from the first movie and how they built off the structure that began there. They also touch on the villains in this film, the themes, as well as using the classic suit over the first film’s design, and quite a bit more.
Heart of the City: Shooting in New York – This second part comes in at just under 13 minutes in length and talks about the ups and downs of shooting in New York. It’s just really great stuff to watch that makes you feel like you’re on set at times.
Triple Threat: Attack of the Villains – This piece comes in at 21 minutes in length, and just as it sounds like, it focuses on the film’s villains, the battles throughout the movie, and how certain scenes were put together.
A More Dangerous World: Transforming Goblin and Electro – This fourth part comes in at 10 minutes in length, and focuses mainly on Electro’s make-up and design, as well as Goblin’s design for both his look and his weapons.
Bolt From the Blue: Visual Effects – This part comes in at just under 18 minutes in length and focuses on the huge amount of visual effects found within the blockbuster. Some things are redundant, as it’s hard to not already touch on certain aspects earlier; however, it’s still interesting to see.
Spidey Gets his Groove Back: Music and Editing – This final segment comes in at 25 minutes in length, and focuses on the set design. Just kidding, it’s all about the music and editing! For those interested in post-production, there’s quite a bit of fun stuff to see and learn here.
With that giant feature out of the way, let’s get to the rest of the goodies:
Audio Commentary – The commentary is given by writers Alex Kurtzman and Jeff Pinkner, as well as Producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad. They go in-depth on quite a few aspects of the film, the story process, the themes, characters, casting and such, so for those who love commentaries, it’s worth a listen.
Deleted and Alternate Scenes – There are 23 minutes worth of scenes here, and if you’re a fan of seeing what hit the cutting room floor, then be sure to check these out. There are some interesting moments, but overall, they didn’t make the cut for a reason. To find out that reason, be sure to turn on the audio commentary by director Marc Webb!
The Music of Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Director Marc Webb – Here’s an eight minute featurette where Webb talks about what he wanted from Hans Zimmer and the score, and how it all ties into the movie.
And finally, Alicia Key’s music video for It’s On Again.

Wasn't that great...

After achieving relative recent success with 2010's Let Me In (directed by Matt Reeves) and 2012's Victorian frightener The Woman in Black, the recently revived Hammer return to UK screens with The Quiet Ones (2014), a stylish and ably acted yet ultimately lacklustre psychological horror that's as predictable as it is almost entirely devoid of bona fide scares. Mad Men star Jared Harris heads up the cast as Joseph Coupland, a paranormal expert who believes he can isolate and eradicate negative energy from troubled teen case Jane (Olivia Cooke). The only problem is that his funding has been cut off, leaving him with little choice but to recruit pupils from his lecture group to assist him in his work.
With the help of eager-to-impress students Harry (Rory Fleck-Byrne) and Krissi (Erin Richards) and cameraman Brian (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's Sam Claflin), Joseph relocates the study to a suitably spooky Georgian house in the middle of nowhere, where his controversial methods soon raise questions with Brian, Harry and Krissi, and Jane is driven to the brink of insanity, causing all manner of supernatural events to transpire. With its beautifully executed 1970s setting and old fashioned tone that harks back to the films of Hammer's prime, The Quiet Ones succeeds in constructing an unnerving sense of tension and terror through Matyas Erdely's sharp cinematography and Lucas Vidal's moody score, yet fails miserably to back that up with a worthwhile narrative.
The film's script, with contributions from no less than four screenwriters, is flimsy and cluttered, with interesting threads (Joseph's unbridled dedication and Brian's ever-increasing feelings of protectiveness towards Jane) that could have made the film infinitely more compelling had they been allowed a little extra room to breathe. Instead, they're cast aside in favour of an over-reliance on shock tactics and twists and turns that can be seen a mile off. In terms of performances, it's only really Harris and Cooke who are able to command their respective characters in ways that patch over the scripts shortcomings, leaving Claflin, Rory Fleck-Byrne and Richards lingering awkwardly in the background. But none of The Quiet Ones strengths are ever greater than its weaknesses, meaning the film does what it does (and not very good, for that matter) for a brisk 98-minute runtime, before fading into a distant memory, never to be thought of again.

Enjoyable low budget movie...

Ninja Apocalypse is a fun little crossover film that brings together two audience favorites -- ninjas and zombies -- for a linear but mostly satisfying journey of combat, treachery, and endless danger. The movie could have been so much more with a larger budget, but the filmmakers are to be commended for crafting something of this quality on what was obviously a rather meager budget. This won't become a genre staple or a cinema classic, but it's a relatively safe bet for an evening when low budget action with a good and rather novel core idea sounds like fun. Naedomi Media's Blu-ray release of Ninja Apocalypse features good quality video and audio. Only the trailer is included. Definitely worth the purchase at a bargain price.

My kids love this movie...

Toy Story of Terror! is Pixar’s first TV special, and a really good one. The studio has previously only made feature length and short films before, and a TV special was a new challenge.
Pixar has previously been able to tell stories of various lengths, but the half hour of network television gave Toy Story of Terror! a very specific runtime. Toy Story of Terror! had to conform to a runtime of exactly 21 minutes and 30 seconds in length and not one frame longer or shorter.
This is just one of the many insightful things learned on the great Toy Story of Terror! DVD and Blu-ray release. The release is packed with special features that show how Toy Story of Terror! was made. There’s more to be done than the average person would expect, and there’s enough in depth material that anyone will learn something. The filmmaking process is undoubtedly different when using animation, and there’s a lot of material that shows just how different it is. Part of this is in an insightful featurette, but a lot of it comes from the various great commentaries included.
Also included on the release are deleted scenes, the Toy Story Toons shorts, and vintage toy commercials. The toy commercials focus on a few of the new toys introduced in Toy Story of Terror! and are made in the style of the eras the fictional toys would have come from. Like the one embedded below, these are a highlight of the release and completely hilarious.
As for Toy Story of Terror! itself, this is an excellent TV special. The half hour format allowed Pixar to tell a smaller Toy Story tale that is as intimate as the movies. Focusing on Jesse was a great idea, and the way the story is structured around her character works absolutely perfectly. The TV special is an interesting type of story for Pixar to use, and we’re completely excited for Toy Story that Time Forgot.

Tarzan is awesome and fun

Tarzan is a great Blu-ray on a technical level, and it features decent special features. The deleted scenes are great as it’s nice to see some more footage. The “Research Trip to Africa” and “The Making of the Music” featurettes are great insight into the making of the film.
Tarzan isn’t one of Disney’s best animated movies, but it sure is good. This release is a must own for Disney fans, and the quality won’t disappoint.
Bonus Features
Deleted Scenes
Research Trip to Africa
The Making of the Music
“You’ll Be In My Heart” Music Video Performed By Phil Collins

Great animation for the kids to enjoy

Hercules has been streaming on Netflix for over a year now, so this release isn’t the first time we’ve had a chance to see it in HD. Because I recently saw it streaming in HD, I was surprised at how much better this Blu-ray release is. The quality is hard to compare visually; the Blu-ray is so much crisper. The differences are even bigger when it comes to sound. The remastered sound is absolutely incredible. This quality of audio and video is matched throughout the five different releases.
As far as special features go, Hercules doesn’t offer that much. The Making of Hercules is a nice feature, but the music video and sing-along aren’t really that special.
Hercules is one of Disney’s best animated movies, and given the technical quality of the Blu-ray, it’s a must purchase.
Bonus Features
The Making of Hercules
“No Importa La Distancia” con Ricky Martin (“Go The Distance” music video with Ricky Martin)
“Zero To Hero” Sing-Along

Movie still is great, but DVD extras don't deliver

Every director probably has one movie that he pours part of himself into. For Spielberg, it was ET, Lucas had American Graffiti. Here, Tim Burton poured into the soul of Edward Scissorhands the world of an outsider, a creation of an old inventor (wonderfully played by Vincent Price) who passes on before he can finish Edward(wonderfully played by Johnny Depp). Edward is one day discovered by Peg Boggs, a curious Avon lady, who takes Edward home to suburbia, a community of multi-colored houses that could only come from the mind of Burton and production designer Bo Welch. Danny Elfman delivers probably his most moving score in this picture. The DVD looked like it would be incredile with what was announced, but it would have to lose starts for what I thought: 1)Audio commentary by Burton and Elfman: Both of these guys do not talk all the way through the film, (though it does sound a little better than Devlin and Emmerich on ID4's DVD & Barry Levinson and Tommy LEe Jones on Men In Black, who chatter on like inane movie theater patrons). But most of the time I found myself wondering when they would speak again. Burton probably speaks 12-15 times through most of the movie, but it sounds more like he's having little afterthoughts. Elfman's audio plays after certain music segments are done (his background music plays over the dialogue so we hear outright how it sounds). 2)Tim Burton concept art: after seeing The Tarzan Collector's Edition, this was a letdown, with only about 7 pieces of art (5 concepts of Edward, 1 of the Inventor, and 1 of Edward's place in the mansion's attic). 3)The featurette talking about the film is also a letdown, as there is nothing that was reall notable (I was really looking forward to hearing how Stan Winston Studios made the Scissorhands props). The only cool notable is the interactive menu, made like a pop-up book of the mansion Edward is found in. If you are looking to find a great movie, get this DVD. If you are into those that promise incredible extra features, pass this one up.

Volume 2 of Power Rangers Megaforce

This is the next set in the collection for Megaforce. In this set the rangers meet an ally but he does not know the difference between good and evil at first, he has to re-learn it. He makes a great addition to their power team and is a great ally that they need to keep battling evil and ensure victory over all evil villains. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Power Rangers, collects the seasons and likes Megaforce.

Boasting flying dragons, tattooed pirates, hoards of samurais, brawling giants, a shape-shifting sorceress, and mystical monks, you might be surprised to hear 47 Ronin is "based on a true story." But keep in mind it's based on a true story the same way Robin Hood is; it's a folk tale with "true" origins grown very vague and thereby ripe for restructuring for epic adventures. Also like Kevin Costner-fronted Robin Hood, 47 Ronin features a shamed noble who seeks out justice and revenge with the help of a band of rebels who hide in the forests. It's a premise that guarantees an entertaining ride, no matter how uncertain the hand of its director.
