Good old fashioned comic book fun

Grew up (late 50" & early 60's) reading all the numerous DC Comics, and fancying myself as one of the heroes. This held pretty close to the original storyline (except for the color "yellow's" ability to overcome Green Lantern's powers). From memory, could still recite, in rote, Green Lantern's chant to power-up the ring. If you're from my generation, this was a nice way to return to your childhood.

The story revolves around the horse race, but the character development and the way the story evolves acquaints one with the social problems, both in America and in the Middle East, during that era and even in today's modern world. Not sure how accurate it is to historical detail, but it is based on an actual, real life person. Great action and enjoyable to watch for all age groups. The ending alone is heartwarming.

Each time I think special effects and animation can't get any better, a movie comes along and surpasses what was achieved before. If you think Gollum, from the "Lord of the Rings", was believable, wait till you see the giant in this movie. Already recommended this movie to a number of friends.

For pure escapism and fun, the 3 Mummy movies filled the bill. Lots of action, adventure, comedy, and great special effects and storylines. Acting was very good as well. The Scorpion King was slightly less so, but this being one of The Rock's early movies, its fun to look back on how his career as an actor has progressed. And Kelly Hu is an eye full. Overall, money well spent.

Special effects were less than expected

As with all movies dealing with similar storylines, one expects the changes to both the story and overall movie appeal. In this version, the acting was good, as were the special effects, although I was expecting more and better effects. Between this and 1959's BEN HUR, starring Charlton Heston, I'd take the 1959 version every time, especially for the chariot race. Even 1925's BEN HUR had a better chariot race.

The first Alien movie, the best in my opinion, was complete in itself, and needed no sequels. Each character was well developed and unique. I loved it's serious aspect. Aliens, the second of the series was still pretty good, and added a few twists to the overall story. The comedy thrown in, helped to break away from the overall nightmare in which the characters found themselves. Alien 3 added nothing to the original storyline. I felt little sympathy towards the individuals, even Ripley. Resurrection, the fourth movie could have destroyed the whole "Alien" premise, if it had been the first of the series. I had to turn it off after watching the first twenty minutes, or so.

Both movies supply plenty of historical background and create a more developed, more rounded character to the Wolverine. Great supporting casts, with lots of twists and turns to keep the audience guessing for each movie's storyline.

All five movies are fun to watch. The first is my favorite, which is more serious and has a more appealing storyline. The rest progress into silly comedy which I, personally, find less tasteful. However, the voiceovers fit the characters very well and the artistry is superb throughout all five movies. The 5 movie collection makes for a fun ride.
